Beth the Orphan

I'll be putting down my initial idea of my character. It might change if needed.

Beth was 6 when she witnesses a shadowy monster have murdered her parents in their own home. The police attributed the violence to some robbery gone bad, and they considered that the child was traumatised by the incident by continuously insisting that it was a monster. Since then, she was sent to live in an orphanage, until she was to be adopted.
Over time, she grew to accept that what she saw that time was her own imagination, but deep down, she can't shake the feeling that it was real. By the time she was 12, she begins to see signs of the supernatural and having nightmares of otherworldly beings. As her experience worsens, she fled the orphanage as she felt that she is a danger to it. She became a homeless, wandering child in search of safety and answers to her visions. She soon became an imsomiac, and can no longer differentiate a dream from waking.

Looks like it's going to be a female majority character group.

I'm going for something that feels like an "Alice in Wonderland" kind of theme.
I am not familiar with the rules of World of Darkness, so I need some help in filling the character sheet.

Sorry if my idea seems to not be in sync with the setting. I'm willing to make changes as needed.

That is a perfect concept, this is about ordinary washing ashore with the extraordinary. It is focused more on the emotional and social conflicts the characters may have more then the physical and combat side of things. Alice in Wonderland is fine.

Where do you see the character going, A Magi, Vampire, Werewolf, or something else? Or will you want to keep them as just a human?

So was she 12 when she started living on the streets?

I see her becoming a Magi, leaning on divination type of powers.

Yes, she started surviving in the streets at the age of 12. When I fill up the character sheet, I feel maybe she could have been living this way for a few years. She may have hidden in abandoned buildings or stayed in homeless shelters during this time.

I have already posted my character sheet to the game. Please let me know if everything looks alright, and how to fill up any of the sections I haven't filled yet.

Ok, I have just a few questions, and this mainly about her as a person. What is she like, would you say she is mean, trusting, vicious? Has she ever had to kill anyone, wanted to kill anyone? WHat is the lowest point in her life, the point she was doing something she would not do unless she were in such a bad way? Has there ever been a time like that? Was she ever abused? Did she ever have friends, real friends, or a lover? How old is she now?

She is not very trusting of others and herself. As she had experience living in the streets, she expects people to take advantage of her, or that she had to take advantage of others. She is also afraid that she might cause monsters to attack people near her, and so she don't trust staying at the same place for long. And when it comes down to protecting herself(or people she cares about), she'll fight viciously. She had encounters with muggers before, and she managed to either escape or injure them into surrendering.

She have killed someone when she was 14, as the mugger/rapist was assaulting her when she was asleep, and she reacted by stabbing him in the chest and throat in adrenaline. She felt shocked and guilty of this. (this might be the lowest point, but I might think of something else)

The children at the orphanage tend to stay away from her, except for Bianca and Nathan. Bianca believes her story of monsters being real and regards her as an older sister, while Nathan doesn't but humours her and tries to protect her from the bullies. The final straw of Beth running away is that she had a dream of watching her friends getting brutally killed by a monster and that the monster acknowledges her presence but not attack her.

(I'll type more later. BTW, I also not too sure of when I want my character to join in. I'm thinking either at the age of 14, after her first murder, or when she is 16, when she becomes a learned apprentice to a mage.

As for her lover, she doesn't really have any. Nathan is the closest, though.

The only things that could be considered as abuse during her orphanage time is when the girls bully her for being strange and when the caretakers treated her as being crazy. When she was living in the streets, she encountered folks that wants to steal or cheat from her, and had experienced a couple of encounters with violent men with a variety of weapons.

There is another thing she felt deeply guilty of. She made a friend during her stay in a homeless shelter. His name is Ol' Markus. When he introduced her to his secret stash of food, she took advantage of his trust by stealing a significant portion of them one night. It was because she was feeling hungry, and was not used to having a friend. The next day she feigned ignorance to her friend, and he begrudgingly accepted it. But she felt so guilty that she had to leave, and also her hallucinations are picking up again.

As for her current age, I'll think about it, but I'll put down a list of ages:

6: her parents got murdered, and she was sent to the orphanage
10: her first "hallucination"
12: she fled the orphanage after a vision
13: she stole from her friend.
14: she killed her first person
15: she found her first mage, and became his apprentice
16: she have learnt basic divining spells.
17: ??

If she started to manifest her powers, did she know what it was? How was she able to trust someone who wanted to teach her? Did she have a choice?
Apr 16, 2019 4:53 am
She did not fully understand her powers. She knew that want she was experiencing is not normal, and felt that the ability she had was more of a curse than a blessing.

In the orphanage, she tries to look for answers in fairy tales. When she run away, she tries to get her hands on occult books, looking for something that explains her condition. Her slow investigation led her to a small book store that is actually owned by a mage. When she enters, the mage was alerted that she had inate magic powers by a magic detector. After a conversation, and the mage demonstrating to her his magic, that she believed that she had found her source of answers. As for the mage, he offers to teach her about magic, and also the secret world that exists around them, as long as she promises to be his loyal apprentice. He warns that the consequences of refusing is to be forbidden entry into his store, and that she would eventually be hunted by malicious forces. Seeing that she had not much choice, she accepts her apprenticeship, and the mage created a blood pact whereby death of either of them would be the destruction of their right arm and left leg.

So let me know what you think sounds better for me to start with? When before she met the mage, or when she had picked up a few spells? Also, could someone let me see the rules for this version of World of Darkness? Especially the merits, as I realised I should be picking from a list and not making them up myself.

Also, I have an idea that Beth's parents were also mages(or perhaps one of them are) and that they are trying to hide from the secret world and live a normal life, but then fate finally caught up with them. That's why their daughter inherited their affinity to magic.
