Background and Details
This game will take place in essentially a pocket timeline of the regular IRL game, set at the same time but where you guys aren't currently exploring a wizard tower. This will be a stand-alone adventure, where the plot and choices you make can affect the main game by virtue of happening in the same city, but in general the plots will be unrelated. Namely, the Cassalanters, Zarvox Zod, the Stone of Golorr, and the Vault will not play important roles, unless you the players decide that you desperately need to merge the games as much as possible. Otherwise, the plot should stay pretty separate.
The goal of this game is to re-familiarize yourselves with your characters, and get a chance to get better acquainted with the city. Aspects of the city that have been mostly ignored in the main game will play more of a role in this game.
Overall, this game will be more intrigue focused than the main game. Combat will be rare, and will be streamlined to better fit the PbP format.
When there's specific isolated scenes that everyone should be involved in, they will occur in their own thread in the main forum. The subforums contain location-specific threads. Every location will have a little blurb to start with, and feel free to build off of that to start a new scene. If there is already a scene in progress, you can join the scene, or if you want to start your own unrelated scene, PM me and I'll set up a new thread.
Likewise, you can PM me if you want to do a scene at a location at a different time (i.e. breaking into a location at night).
Rules and Guidelines
* Write in third person past tense, even if I'm writing in something else
* Keep It Simple: How does your character react to what happened? What does your character do next?
* For scenes where you're the only player, use your personal thread. If something happens in those that affects a location, I will post in the location thread with an update
* PM me if there's something specific you want to happen, or a new location you want to visit
* When going to a location, post only in the thread for your final destination (assume you arrived there unimpeded, except for special circumstances)
* At first only explored locations are available, but more locations may become available as the game progresses. Currently available locations may stop being available.
* When rolling an attack, include a damage roll as well (should the occasion arise). This will make combat-type situations go quicker. (Combat in general will be handled a little differently, but I'll explain that when the time comes)
* If you'd like to do something that you think might require a roll, or you want to include a roll, then go ahead and add a roll to your post. There's no need to wait for me to ask for one (even if it turns out I didn't need a roll from you, including a roll ahead of time will make things go quicker). Always err on the side of including a roll. If you roll badly on something that I think should be trivial, you'll still succeed (I won't punish you for including a roll where you otherwise might not have needed one)
* Use OOC tags when posting in threads that aren't marked [OOC].
Posting Expectations
I know people are busy, but if you're involved in a developing scene then try to post regularly (at least once per day). If you go AFK, then other people may progress the scene without you. If that becomes a problem, I can lock the thread until you're able to post again, but ideally that won't need to happen.
Likewise, if someone is important in a scene and suddenly goes AFK, don't progress the scene without their permission. The point of asynchronous threads is to let you progress scenes elsewhere while one scene is stalled.
Other Notes
A few more quick things: for discussing plans with people, use Messenger OR create a new thread in the same forum or subforum and label it [OOC] (unless you'd like to discuss plans in character, whatever is fine).
Also: there WILL be minigames at some point, I guarantee it. So you have that to look forward to.
