The Bronze Foothills
As may be inferred from the name, the Bronze Foothills are the home to many small mining communities responsible for much of the metal materials used across the Satrapies and Independent Cities. Some of the wealthier communities fall under the auspices of the Blackshield clan from up in the mountains, but the less fortunate, distant towns live a mostly lawless existence. Several bandit factions have taken to offering "protection" to some of the villages, while others are left to the mercy of the wilds or slaving raids from the Drow in the Windshadow Woods. As you go further east, the population starts to become more heavily dwarven, until finally you reach the Blackshield Mountains.
The Blackshield Mountains
Home to Blackshield clan and those under their protection, the Blackshield Mountains stretch for over 100 miles north to south. The center of civilization is at Blackshield Keep, located right off of the Silver Lake. The mountains contain many precious metals and gems, making living here much more opulent and rich for the well-connected. The common folk pay an exorbitant tax for the privilege of living here, but still its still a comfortable life once you get used to the cold. The Blackshield clan is ruled over by the three branches of the Blackshield family who oversee different aspects of the Blackshield economy, including: shipping, mining, and military.

[ +- ] History
The three Speakers for the Blackshield clan are 1. Sol Blackshield, Speaker of Finance (shipping) 2. Stru Blackshield, Speaker of Stone (mining) and 3. Leffa Blackshield, Speaker of War (military). These branches of the family have ruled the Blackshield clan for over three hundred years, since the ousting of clan Hardhelm, a clan of Duregar who used to live in harmony with the Blackshield mountain dwarves. Four centuries ago, a major schism between King Wolin of the Blackshields and King Zer of the Hardhelms led to one hundred years of war until the Duregar were driven from the mountains (then called the Holy Silver Range) deep underground. As a final act of vengeance, King Wolin Blackshield was assassinated without any heir. As a temporary measure, the late king's advisers took control of the government, but have continued to rule in this way in perpetuity since no king could be agreed upon.
