Hola!

For those who frequent your PC on DND Beyond, I wanted to ask if you have any issue with me modifying your character name. I am going to pre-pend the name with a GSM_. I am doing this because, if you have not yet seen, I am using the campaign for two different games. Yours and my Gigantic Adventures game.

It is just to keep the characters identified by game.
May 20, 2019 2:44 pm
Totally cool with me! Do whatever you need to do with my Beyond sheet its all good :)
May 20, 2019 3:01 pm
Fine with me.
May 20, 2019 5:44 pm
No problemo.
May 20, 2019 7:18 pm
FYI, Squadfather44 tapped out. He is too busy at work. I've invited another player, so we should be filled by the AM. Once I get the new book in hand, I'll work on your individual story threads. Each of you will start out separately somewhere in the world and I will (hopefully) slowly bring you all together.
May 20, 2019 7:19 pm
So please get your PC info complete, including backstory, descriptions, etc. So if you finally wind up meeting, I'll know how to describe you to everyone else. :)

Working on my background right now...
May 28, 2019 11:19 am
Sorry for the dry spell. A busy work-week followed by the long weekend here in the states... let's move this story along today, shall we? :)
May 28, 2019 11:58 am
I want to note that I modified a couple of your initial posts. I oops and said that Brewfest was the festival when it should have been Growfest.... nothing major, just a completely different time of year, is all... :/

OOC:
I'll try to post later today. This weekend hit me with a sinus bug and I am really not feeling it at the moment.
Jun 3, 2019 4:37 pm
No sweat. School let out Thursday, so I was enjoying a long weekend with my daughter (not to rub it in or anything). I've spent far too much time at work trying to catch up with other games.

Late? ::huff:: Is that all... ::huff:: ...you have... ::huff:: to say for your... ::huff:: ...self after leaving me... ::huff:: in the lurch? Mercival spends a few moments catching his breath.

You could at least have the decency to show some contrition! I shall be lodging a formal complaint with whatever passes for this kingdom's mercantile authority. I represent no less a personage than His Grace, the Canon of the Archclericy of Veluna. Surely these turnip farmers riding your coach could have spared a few moments so you could make allowances for my busy schedule.
I was expecting a reaction more along these lines.
Jun 6, 2019 8:08 pm
I'm heading out of town tomorrow morning to hang out with a friend from Australia I haven't seen in almost 30 years, so my posting will be spotty, at best.

Heh, never played a character that was quite so much of a narcissistic jerk before but I'm finding it surprisingly fun.

I can tell... :P
Jun 10, 2019 4:37 pm
I managed to survive the weekend only a little worse for wear. I have found that I can still put away the drinks when the need arises, it's the recovery that has suffered from age. I'll get a post up by tonight.
Jun 10, 2019 4:47 pm
I've always heard that turmeric helps prevent hangovers.
Jun 10, 2019 6:46 pm
No worries, weekends are pretty slow. I'll be catching the game up tonight, after work.
Jun 11, 2019 2:26 am
It wasn't so much the hangover, though there was that, it was the late nights. One I can usually do with no problem. It's two nights that's the killer. I'm just glad I played video games before the drinking started. I don't think I could have handled all the noise at the world's largest arcade the day after.

After being married for almost 15 years, my wife told me she no longer has feelings for me. In the coming months, I will have to make major changes in my life (relocating, splitting everything, selling the house, making sure the kids are not forgotten in all that, etc..). It's a sad time for us but at least we are not leaving each other with bad feelings. I don't know when I'll be back but once my life is back on track, I'm sure I'll come back to this great community. I'm sorry for the inconvenience I'll be causing to those with whom I'm gaming right now...
Jun 12, 2019 2:03 pm
!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no! So sorry for that, bro.
Jun 15, 2019 5:46 am
Hello all, thankful for the chance to play. Though the situation in which I came in was tough. deadpool_qc my thoughts are with you and your family. Hope you are able to get everything worked out.
Jun 15, 2019 10:40 am
Welcome to the game! It's indeed a shame, I hope matters turn out for the best in the longrun for him. Lamentably, it's an all-too-common story.
Jun 18, 2019 7:14 pm
Sorry I am taking so long, guys. I'm trying to get caught up from my 'vacation' :/
Jun 18, 2019 7:25 pm
I feel ya! Two three-day weekends out of town means lots of catch-up at home and work. Plus, I have a very flexible work schedule, so I've been working longer hours (especially during the weeks my daughter is spending at her mother's) so I can get some days off without having to use a vacation day.

I updated the Keoland map. Anna Meyer released her 2019 version of Greyhawk, and it is AWESOME. I recommend checking it out. :D

I'm off work tomorrow and all of next week, so my posting will be spotty, at best.

I'm taking my daughter to the Art Institute in Chicago on Monday and then starting a trip down Route 66 (it starts across the street from the Art Institute). She's only 12, so I keep telling her this is going to be the kind of trip she's going to absolutely hate, but when she gets to college, it'll eventually dawn on her what a cool experience it was. At least I hope it dawns on her. Most of my parenting depends on the fact that a lot of stuff eventually dawns on her.
Jun 27, 2019 3:28 pm
Good parenting is rarely appreciated in its time, especially by the parentee. I was just in Chicago a week and a half ago on business, the museum sounds like good fun. Enjoy your road trip with the family units, amigo!
Jun 27, 2019 3:57 pm
I was also in Chicago a week and a half ago to see a friend from Australia I hadn't seen in almost 30 years.

Nice! Safe travels! Oh, and if you see Lightning McQueen, or Mater, say hello! :D

I had not planned on not posting over our long weekend here, but the hotel WiFi was abominable... I'll catch up today. Apologies again.
Jul 8, 2019 5:59 pm
No worries. I expect less posting on weekends, especially when so close to a holiday.

I will be attending Queen City Conquest gaming convention this upcoming weekend Thursday through SUnday. My post may be extremely infrequent.

Oh sure... Eldrog disappears just as the shit gets real... :P
Jul 15, 2019 3:03 pm
FYI, I have dropped all but 2 of the original players in my Heroes of Greyhawk game, and am soliciting replacements. I lost a paladin and rogue that I am seeking to replace.

I'll throw my hat in the ring. I have more time than games, it seems.
Jul 15, 2019 4:54 pm
Feel free. This will be, basically, a straight swap, so it would be as if you had been with the party all along.
Jul 23, 2019 8:28 pm
*Sigh*

Elveron has not responded (nor even read) my PM to him, so I don't know if he is coming back. I'm running his combat for now, but I may be (again) soliciting a new player.

Any word from roleplayer60 9Fenlys)? He has not posted to our thread since the 16th so at first I though the comments above were about him.
Jul 24, 2019 3:37 pm
No, I'll send a message to him as well... :/
Jul 24, 2019 9:39 pm
I have remove Elveron (Eldrog) from the game and have solicited for a replacement.

I'm starting to feel a bit self conscious about the fact that players keep dropping out shortly after their characters join up with Mercival!

Haha! I thought it was my shitty DM style... :/

I had a guy quit a game because of my PC once.

I'm in a game where I started off playing a super arrogant, completely obnoxious bard named Rico Suave. He was a human variant with the Magic Initiate: Cleric feat, so he could use Thaumaturgy to amplify his voice, and the Noble variant (retainers) background, so he could have his party posse. The dwarf was pretty hostile toward him, which I thought was amusing. Until I began to realize it wasn't roleplaying, but the player himself. He went quiet in the middle of a battle after shoving Rico and walking away. He never came back.

I might have felt bad except that I had discussed my character concept with everyone before hand, which included another player and I setting up a rivalry between our two bards. When the bard got killed, all the players said pretty much the same thing, "My PC hated Rico's guts, but I loved him!"

It had been a long time since I tried PbP (at least 10+ years) and although everyone here has been awesome, I just don't think I'm patient enough for this style of play and I don't want to drag everyone else down. I'm afraid I'm going to have to call it quits.

Have fun everyone!

Ok, thanks Neuro!

Hello all,

I'm sorry, but for whatever reason (probably my desire to give you all a personalized opening) this game has just not taken off like I thought that it would. Players have been dropping way too often to be able to form any kind of a cohesive group, and now our Bard (Mercival) has gone dark with (from what I am told) real life issues.

I can't keep recruiting new players only to have someone else drop, and it isn't fair to those who have been trying to keep their hopes up.

So, I am going to be shutting down the game. I might revisit it down the road, but until then, I am sincerely sorry to those who have just joined. I'll wait until you all reply before closing up shop, but again, I'm really sorry. Hopefully this one bad experience will not keep you from looking into any other games I may run in the future.

Can't you accelerate or hand wave some of the in-between action? As a group, we can just sort of narrate how we all meet up in Saltmarsh (we're almost there as it is) and start the main part of the module. While I expressed my frustration that I've been running solo in my own narrative as other players dropped away, it would be even more frustrating to have the last three months of gameplay be for nothing. I'd much rather have even a jarring narrative leap in time and action in order to start the module proper and to not have spent three months on what amounts to an incomplete solo adventure.

Honestly, I've really enjoyed your DMing. If I hadn't, I would have spoken up earlier. It was only the most recent players dropping out that prompted me to say anything. I think what you had in mind as a way to solidify PC's backstories was a great idea. I try to do it myself in my RL game. Most modules have very weak openings that do little to give the characters motivation to band together or to continue on the dangerous mission presented to them. Unfortunately, the slow pace of PbP makes it difficult to keep that initial excitement of a new game moving.

Anyway, I sincerely hope you reconsider your decision to shutter the game. I have definitely enjoyed myself and would much rather restart in Saltmarsh with a narrative leap than have another promising game go dark.

That sucks, I really liked this character and thought he had good potential.

Yeah, I agree. All of the characters had great potential.
Aug 20, 2019 2:50 pm
@McDunno - yeah, I could, but we are back down to 3 PCs, and I would have to recruit yet again. I'm just over having to bring in a new player almost every week. It's gotten to be pretty disheartening.
Aug 20, 2019 2:51 pm
As for waving the hand and getting you to Saltmarsh, I was trying to do that without too much 'poofing' you all to your destination. :)
Aug 20, 2019 4:02 pm
Well, I'm certainly disappointed, but I can understand your frustration. I hope you'll keep me in mind if you start up another game or if you have anyone drop out of a current game.
