Colors Representing Voices

In most PbP games I've participated in, each character's voice was represented by a color primarily, I assume, to help make that post instantly recognizable as being for that character. It also provides characters with a bit of flavor and uniqueness since the colors can represent something about that character. The downside, however, obviously being that the extra formatting code makes a post a little more time consuming and troublesome to make. I personally believe the bit of extra effort improves the quality of posts ands makes them a little bit more interesting.

In any case, a list of html colors compatible with the [color="color"] tags can beef found here:
HTML color names!
I'm curious about everyone's opinion on using them. We could also use other kinds of formatting to represent other ways of modifying one's voice, like bold for a conversational tone of speech intended to be heard by everyone nearby, italics for singing, unmodified text for quiet speech intended to only be heard by those nearby or perhaps whispered to just one person.

In another game I'm in, colors are used to represent with langage is used. Bold when spoken, italic when whispered.
Black=common
Green=Elvish
Red=Orcish
etc...

I like that idea too, although most of the time I'd imagine it'd just be common spoken. I usually use spoiler tags for other languages so people can open them if their character understands the language. Or if they're dirty cheaters!

Besides which, this is an extremely racially diverse party! The only characters that share a non-common language are Gyre and Mercival who both speak Elvish. I think that's really good though, between all of us there's not much we won't understand, especially with Willow knowing comprehend languages as a backup.

We're also very diverse in our skill proficiencies, there's only 1 skill that at least one of us isn't proficient in, and that's animal handling which I think we can easily get away with not having. At most 2 of us are proficient in any given skill, the doubled-up ones are athletics, deception, intimidation, investigation, nature, perception, religion, sleight of hand, and survival.

And there's one doubled up cantrip with Mercival and Willow both knowing minor illusion. I took it because it combos well with silent image which I also took. But maybe one of us ought to swap it for prestidigitation since minor illusion/silent image combos well with it to make more complex and convincing illusions. For instance in one round cast silent image to create an illusion of an angry ogre running at someone, next round one of us cast minor illusion to make it start roaring and the other cast prestidigitation to make it actually smell like an ogre. The combination of effects would simulate a much higher level illusion even at first level.

I'm not really a fan of it. If I'm posting from a computer, it's not that big a deal. If I'm posting from my phone, it adds a level of pain-in-my-ass that I would prefer not to deal with. I've only been in one game that uses different colors for different PCs' speech and haven't noticed it adding to any sort of clarity.

Fair enough. I'm not married to the idea, just wanted to get peoples opinions.

FYI, I edited your rights to disallow the creation of threads and deletion of posts. :) Sorry, I have the power. ;)

With regard to color of speech, I allow players to post how they wish. I typically use blue for text unless more than one NPC is speaking, where I will post a different color per character.

Thanks for the link to colors, Ferdy. :)

Nothing is stopping us Ferdy from both using minir illusion and combining them. You wouldn't have to wait a turn to make your ogre roar if I'm doing it for you :)

Yeah, looking forward to seeing what kind of cooperative shenanigans we can get up to.
