Determinedly, Harragh Looks to take back control of the grapple.
OOC:
Not sure if that will have worked or not, will throw in a pickup coins roll just in case it worked I guess?

Slowly but surely, Harragh re-asserts his dominance on the grapple and continues to grab coins for his pouch. It's a slow, grinding process that only gets more dramatic when the thug finally manages to escape with just four coins remaining on the table. Well aware that if he grabs those, the game will be over and he'll have lost, he instead throws a punch at the half orc, trying to create some space so he can go for the dagger. Harragh intentionally lets the blow hit him, only so he can lure his opponent into a rushed lunge for the blade and trip his leg mid-move before triumphantly picking up the last few coins. The onlookers' tension finally bursts into cheers and Harragh is declared the winner, with all 43 coins to be evenly split between the winners. Devargo claps his hands in delight too and the room suddenly falls silent as the attention is focused back on him. "Thank you all, for providing tonight's entertainment. Now, if the losers and their friends would kindly f**k off out of here..."

Without another word, the thugs gather themselves and leave the room. While the door's open to let them out, Devargo motions to the enforcer on watch duty and as soon as the thugs are gone, four of the establishment's enforcers walk into the room. "Please enjoy the company of my trusted men while I take a moment to handle the paperwork" he says to you, before opening a door and disappearing behind it. You hear his footsteps on a ladder leading below, then moments later, the same footsteps up before he re-appears with a handful of papers.

"Not long ago, I learned of a pretty scandalous affair your beloved Ambassador Amprei was having with the wife of an important noble back in Cheliax. Apparently, the ambassador and this woman had been corresponding while Amprei was stationed here in Korvosa. When these rumors reached me, I decided to pay the man a visit with an offer for a mutually beneficial deal. I gave him a gift of several vials of shiver, with the proposition to open a line of trade with Cheliax. He refused and had me escorted from his home, but little did he know, I pickpocketed the man’s housekey as I left. Later that night, I returned there and stole several of the ambassador’s letters to his paramour, before returning the key as a final punchline."

Devargo sits back on his throne, fiddling with the two envelopes in his hand as he continues to talk. "I've been selling the letters back to the ambassador since. The fact that he hasn’t gone to the guard and is attempting to keep the re-acquisition of the letters as quiet as possible says plenty about my power, as well as how dangerous the contents would be to his career. First time he visited Eel's End, he was as uncomfortable as one can be, so I decided to teach him a lesson for not accepting my original offer: I only sold him one of the letters, providing the rest at the rate of one every few weeks, just to extend our little dance and savour the look on his face every time he's around. These are the last two he has yet to purchase. You've earned them."

Harragh jumps down off the table and grabs the two letters. He nods at Devargo, happy to have what they came for, and ready to get the hell out of this place and bring the letters back to Cressida Croft.

They even managed to do the job with most of the money they got to bribe Devargo intact.
OOC:
I went back and had a look, looks like we got 1100gp from Croft as the bribe. I know we splashed a bit of cash around earlier on trying to work out what to do in here, but I imagine that this gold is largely intact.

First off, Tider dances on the table. I'm going to roll to see how baller his dance moves are. I'm not doing it for any in game advantage, Tider is just really excited. He slaps Shaydan and Grey on the back and cheers like an idiot. He tosses a few gold coins to the losers (five, I'm deducting it from my sheet) to the losers and lets them know he thinks they're real good sports.

When Devargo tells his story, Tider's jaw drops. This man managed to dig up a juicy rumor, confront the rumor's subject to his face, swindle him through deception and quick fingers, and then repeatedly blackmail one of of the most powerful men in the city. This is Tider's hero.
OOC:
Yes we do have that gold leftover, and my understanding is that we get to keep what we don't spend. Tider does an additional happy dance on the table.

Abe laughs at Tider's antics. "Careful, T, there may be a table on one of these ships that looking for more of that!"

"Pleasure doin' business with you" Devargo says to Harragh as the half orc grabs the letters, before gesturing to him that they should be going now.
OOC:
That gold indeed was meant for bribing Devargo. Given your overall spending at Eel's End and how I lowered the Diplomacy DC to avoid pages upon pages of Knivesies games, maybe bring it down to a round 1.000gp remaining and keep it for yourselves. Time to return those letters to Ms. Kroft

Before leaving Tider rushes up to Devargo and bows deeply. "Sir, it has been an honor," he says with absolute sincerity. Tider is ready to go.

On the way to see Kroft, Harragh says "As soon as we finish up with Kroft, I’m going to need a bath. And Tider, maybe weigh how many junkies of one sort or another you saw in there against the stars in your eyes huh?"

Shayaan is still reeling with adrenaline as she punches Harragh softly on the shoulder and says:
"That was quite a show you put up there! If you're bored sometime, let me know and I'll be ready another round."

To the others she says
"Are you guys always up to so much fun?"

On their way to Kroft, Abe adds, "When we get this to the head lady I can't wait to gloat in her adoration."

When you return to Citadel Volshyenek and hand over the scandalous letters to Field Marshal Cressida Kroft, she blushes as she reads them and quickly passes them to a clerk for safe keeping. "These should work perfectly, should the need for some leverage against the ambassador ever come up" she says, before opening a drawer on her desk to produce a pouch of coins she places on the table. "I thank you again. You'll find 500 gold in here, on top of whatever bribe money is left from what I gave you earlier. Should keep you going until I have something more for you to do. Things are starting to return to normal in Korvosa at last, but unrest remains in the air. I will contact you if I ever need your services again."
Mar 20, 2020 10:06 pm
"Your generosity is matched only by your beauty, Field Marshall. We are proud to have served Korvosa." Abe bows politely.

Shayaan smiles at Abe's smooth talking and bows obsequiously.

"Score!" Shouts Tider. "Mz Kroft, your the best boss I ever had. Of course, my only other boss was Lamm, but still. Way better."

During downtime, Tider will go about his usual routine (pray at the death temple, talk to his best friend who is also a ghost and do a quick knowledge local check to see if he stays abridged of current events). He will also take up Mr. Orsini up on his offer to stop by his swanky sword school.

"Hey Shayan! You want to see how fancy the pants are at this guys shool are? You were interested right?"

Harragh simply nods at Kroft.

"I imagine we'll be back here soon enough."
