• Zhao Xun: a human assassin working in the Opal City. A tattoo in the shape of a black lotus adorns the back of his hand.
• Guong Ming: a slug-man noble. Before his assassination, former head of the Guong clan.
• Fan Zexian: a slug-man noble. Before his assassination, former head of the Fan clan, bitterest rivals of the Guong.
• Kunchong: chief of the Xiaohuo Cockroach Clan.
• Yao Fei: a slug-man apothecary.
• Tamchim: elven Guildmaster of the Explorer's Guild in Qing'lai.
• Jimseung: a human beastmaster. Member of the Explorer's Guild.
• Hee-Chul: slug-man owner and proprietor of the Twelve Lanterns Inn.
• Sikeo: a human botanist and wilderness explorer. Member of the Explorer's Guild.
• Shen Xin: a dancer at the Crippled Crane inn. Secretly runs a hidden prostitution ring on the black market, selling girls as slaves.
• Geon: a human steward who works for the Changgok clan. Rumor has it that the Changgok work for the Guong clan, doing their dirty work.
• Atekhramun: a magician from Hiptos who kidnapped Mei, one of Shen Xin's girls.
• Sungyeol and Dae-Won: elven brothers; members of the Explorer's Guild, sent by Tamchim to assist the heroes. In battle, Dae-Won wields a chilseonggeom ("seven star sword") while Sungyeol fights using a longbow.
• Guong Bai: a slug-man noble. Became head of the Guong clan after his father, mother and elder brothers were assasinated.
• Fan Song: a slug-man noble. Became head of the Fan clan after his brother's death.
• Choa: Head of the archive on Plum Orchard Lane. At the behest of the Quian, hired Wu Meng and Rong Hua to steal the scroll from the Guong Estate the night Lady Guong and her two elder sons were assassinated.
Places
• Gwaju: a farming village that welcomed Iko, afterward saw joyous times.
• Liaoqiu: a mining town that imprisoned Iko, afterward fell on hard times.
• Guangming Peak: "Bright Mountain." Location of Wu Meng's monastery before it was burned down.
• Mount Kun Wu: source of a special type of flame-red copper. Legend says that a blade made out of such copper is able to cut through jade.
• Twelve Lanterns Inn: one of the largest inns in the city. Popular among members of the Explorer's Guild. Owned and run by a slug-man named Hee-Chul. Known to receive sizeable contributions (probably to curry favor with the Guild) from many of the city's most prominent families, most notably the Quian.
• The Crippled Crane: center of Shen Xin's black market prostitution ring.
• The Three Rivers: 3 rivers connect the Perfumed Lake to the Jade Sea in the West.
- The Tiger River flows northwest and meets the salt marshes where the crab-men live. This is mainly how those lowly laborers travel to and from the city.
- The Phoenix River flows south through the vast semi-arid steppes bordering the Haunted Desert. The Phoenix dries up completely in the summer, only to return in the spring.
- The Dragon River flows due west, and is large enough to allow ferries and barges to transport people and goods between the Opal City and Qing'lai's great ports on the Dragon's mouth.

• The Sorrowsworn: disciples of Dai'shan, the Lord of Sorrows, Dualistic God of Charity and Suffering.
• Eight Masters of the Eightfold Way: Heads of the monasteries of Mountain, Fire, Earth, Lake, Heaven, Water, Thunder, and Wind.
• Explorer's Guild: comprised of groups of wilderness explorers licensed to operate in Qing'lai. They hire some of the best adventurers in the realm. The Guildmaster is an elf named Tamchim.
• The Dogs: a gang of cut-throats and rapists.
