Session 1- Travel to Juniper

Jul 12, 2019 3:11 am
Setting out at a moderate pace you begin your journey. The golden path is well marked with deep wagon ruts down the center of an earthy track marked by gold painted boulders. They aren't actual gold of course Zila mentions chattily. Some sort of gold colored paint. No less special though! The paint was enchanted to never wear away or erode, marking this path for all eternity!...or so the wizards say. Some day, I'll know the answer to just how long this paint will last. Zila smiles to herself.
As you travel further from the city thick grasses and shrubs grow up around the sides of the road and just off the road, a few hundred feet, you notice some berry bushes. One of the golden boulders here has a rude drawing painted over the lustrous paint. Seems to be a popular stopping point for travelers, just a few hours from the city gates. You decide to stop for a few minutes and collect some berries, but to continue on, so as not to slow your pace.
As you get further from Nahor, the land becomes more verdant and well watered. This time of year loud buzzing fills the air during the day from the leafhoppers that seem ubiquitous in these grasslands. Suddenly, Zila stops.something is coming. Her eyes flash with a violet light for a moment. Prepare yourselves. It will be upon us soon. You all notice that the insects have suddenly gone deathly silent.

Best we hide and ambush what ever is coming. Laura quickly moves to hide herself away. She moves away and just vanishes.
OOC:

Laura's disappearing act has Trissrie take a double take, looking frantically for her companion before realizing she simply must be a master of stealth. She tries to emulate this behavior, hiding amongst the trees with her rather tall figure. After getting situated she clutches her amulet, feeling her senses begin to sharpen.
OOC:
Wow, equilibrium achieved.

Using eyes of the grave.

You don't detect any undead in the area, but you do notice a slight trembling coming from the ground. A pebble that had been placed on the nearby golden boulder suddenly falls to the ground.
Jul 13, 2019 3:20 pm
Cinead begins to draw in his magic power. Ready to face what may come. He scans the area, looking for what it could be. Any idea what is coming, Zila?
OOC:
Cinead rolls a perception check.

Edit. I see everything! Lol

Cinaed is first to spot the huge lumbering creature coming towards you. Still a few hundred feet away, you can clearly make out its features. It seems to be running right towards your group.
[ +- ] Monster
You immediately recognize this as an ogre, but there seems to be something unusual about its behavior.

"Odd..." Trissrie bumps a branch or two, but doesn't seem to notice, trying to take note of what is the matter with that creature.
OOC:

Prepare yourselves. This ogre looks like it wants to get rowdy. Cinead mutters to himself and presses a hand against his chest. The air shimmers as magic encases him in a faint aura. He yells out towards the ogre while taking a defensive stance. He tries to examine the ogre for any magical interference.HOLD THERE! We wish no trouble!
OOC:
Cinead casts mage armor on himself and performs an arcana check on the ogre, looking for magic that might be infecting or controlling it.

With the beast barreling towards you, its hard to get a good reading on its behavior.

Trissrie notices that the creature seems unusually pale (even for an ogre), its skinned bleached to a pearly hue, but its blue veins clearly visible at the surface of its skin.
Laura notices that the creature doesn't seem to be looking at you (yet). Its eyes are fixed directly ahead, or possibly not even seeing at all. This could be some arcane influence?
Cinaed notices that when he calls out to the creature, it doesn't even respond in the slightest. No tilt of the head or twitch of the ear to acknowledge the sound entered its ears. You can't think of any arcane effect that would cause this.
The creature does seem to be heading directly in your direction and has closed about half the distance since you last glanced at it. There are only moments left until it will be upon you. Strangely, a large hawk that had been circling overhead is now diving down and seems to be in a collision course to strike the ogre.
Barrot just smiles and draws his twin swords.
Following Cinaed's lead, Zila also casts mage armor on herself.

OOC:
Bonus Action: Laura casts Bardic Inspiration on Barrot. Gives Barrot a 1d6 inspiration dice.

"That creature, something is ailing it." Trissrie pulls out her shield in case of battle. The attacking bird gives her reason to examine the scene.
OOC:
Perception on the bird, I have a slight suspicion insight is more suited to the task.

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+5)

(9) + 5 = 14

Laura looks on as the bird seems to be acting strange a well. She decides to keep her hiding spot and watch.
Jul 16, 2019 6:19 pm
The bird's form is lost in just a streak of gray. It is too difficult to make out any of its features at the speed its moving, but it definitely seems to be on a collision course with the ogre
Jul 16, 2019 11:31 pm
She knows this is potentially a bad idea, but Trissrie decides to risk it. She casts thaumaturgy from behind a thicket of trees 30 feet from their hiding spots, creating a horrible beast-like roar not unlike that of an owl bear.
Jul 17, 2019 11:32 pm
The ogre still doesn't react to anything around it, but the bird pulls up out of it dive just a few yards away from the ogre. It circles once and then drops gracefully down onto the ogre's shoulder. The ogre, now a mere 50 feet away from you comes to a halt and lets out a fearsome roar. Everyone, please roll initiative and a wisdom saving throw.
