Periodically I'll add some information in this thread about the world as it becomes relevant, even if it's player knowledge stuff not character knowledge stuff.

A little bit of background:

All history past 300 years is non-existent. No one knows why. It's as if one day, 300 years ago everybody woke up with their memories erased and they just continued their lives.

All half-breeds' (Half-elfs, half-orcs, etc) mother's die in child birth, regardless which one of the races she happens to be.

Necromancy is extremely looked down upon in most places.

Some cities ban the use of unregistered magic.

The world is full of chaos magic and you will quickly see the results of that.

Some Game mechanics:

Critical hits:

How I run crits is you have 2 options: double weapon dice damage or roll on the crit table.
The Crit table is as follows: 1-50 Max damage on 1 dice, 51-75 double damage. 76-90 1/2 monster dice damage. 91-99 full monster dice damage. 100 instant kill.

If you or an enemy rolls a natural 1 on a saving throw on an attack save, it counts as a critical hit for person you're saving against.

Enemies only do double damage on criticals, so they do not have the option of instant killing you.

On crit fails for attacks, roll a 1d100 and I have a chart that will have an effect. I put it on here, but it all depends on the type of attack, so i'll take care of it.

Where are elves from, primarily?

Depends on the type of elf. Most can be found all over but there is the largest concentration is in the Faerie Forest

Let's say "high elf". Is there a high-culture elven city somewhere that is known for it's magic prowess?

Question on encumbrance?

Carrying Capacity. Your carrying capacity is your Strength score multiplied by 15. This is the weight (in pounds) that you can carry, which is high enough that most characters don't usually have to worry about it.

or

Variant: Encumbrance

The rules for lifting and carrying are intentionally simple. Here is a variant if you are looking for more detailed rules for determining how a character is hindered by the weight of equipment. When you use this variant, ignore the Strength column of the Armor table.
If you carry weight in excess of 5 times your Strength score, you are encumbered, which means your speed drops by 10 feet.
If you carry weight in excess of 10 times your Strength score, up to your maximum carrying capacity, you are instead heavily encumbered, which means your speed drops by 20 feet and you have disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws that use Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution.

As long as you don't have an incredulous amount of stuff, I don't really worry about it.
