There are a lot of NPCs in and around Phandalin, here is a guide to help you keep track of them all:
Gundren Rockseeker: Gundren is a dwarf who hired you to escort supplies to Phandalin. He headed out before you to take care of some business. On the way to Phandalin you found that he and his escort, Sildar Hallwinter were captured by goblins. Tracking the goblins you found their cave, where you discovered that Gundren (and a map to Wave Echo Cave) was sent to a castle in Neverwinter Wood, which is under the control of King Grol.
The party has successfully rescued Gundren from Cragmaw castle and returned him to Phandalin, where he is now recovering in the care of Sister Garaele.
Sildar Hallwinter: Sildar was Gundren's guard on his trip to Phandalin. He is around 50 years old, with white hair and beard, but is still in good shape. He was also captured by the goblins during the ambush but, unlike Gundren, was kept in the cave where he was beaten severely. He was rescued by the party and revealed that Gundren and his brothers discovered Wave Echo Cave. He accompanied the party to Phandalin.
He has revealed that, in addition to Gundren, one of his friends, a human wizard named Iarno Albrek, has gone missing over two months ago. He and Iarno are members of the Lord's Alliance, a group created to help establish and maintain order across the north.
Elmar Barthen: Elmar is the owner of Barthen's Provisions in Phandalin. A middle aged balding man, he is always quick with a smile. He is saddened by Gundren going missing and has informed the party that Gundren's brothers, Nundro and Tharden, are camped somewhere outside of town but should be returning soon for supplies.
Toblen Stonehill: The proprietor of the Stonehill Inn is a short, friendly young human male named Toblen Stonehill. He lives there with his wife Trilena and his son Pip.
Linene Graywind: Linene is a pretty, auburn-haired, woman who runs the Lionshield Coster in Phandalin. She is friendly and fair, but has a quick temper. The party gave her the location of the goods that were stolen by the goblins, for which she is very grateful.
Daran Edermath: Daran is a retired half-elven adventurer who runs the apple orchard in Phandalin.
Halia Thornton: Halia runs the Phandalin Miner's Exchange
Qelline Alderleaf: Qelline is a halfling farmer who is good friends with the druid, Reidoth. Her son Carp is rumored to have discovered a secret tunnel out in the forest, but was scared off by the Redbrands before he could explore it.
Carp Alderleaf: Carp is Qelline's son. The young halfling boy has taken a liking the Kama and led them to the secret entrance to the Redbrand hideout.
Sister Garaele: Elven cleric in charge of the shrine of Tymora in Phandalin. She recently returned from a short trip, a little bit worse off than when she left.
Harbin Wester: Townmaster of Phandalin. He recently put out a bounty for someone to deal with some orcs at the east end of the Triboar Trail.
Iarno Albrek: Sildar's longtime friend who went missing. The party has discovered that he has been in Phandalin this whole time under the guise of Glasstaff, the leader of the Redbrands. He currently resides in the small jail in Phandalin.
Mirna Dendrar: Wife of Thel, who was murdered by the Redbrands for defying them. She and her children were captured and recently rescued by the party. She did mention an emerald necklace that is hidden beneath the floor of her parents' old alchemy shop in the southeastern part of Thundertree.
