Life in Khorvaire (In a Nutshell)

In general, you can compare the lifestyle of many of the Five Nations residents to the early Victorian period of our own world, from clothing to diet to base technology to the way of thinking. The only major difference of course is the presence and influence of Arcana-Tech. Imagine if you will, societies that see magic, low level only, in every day occurrences and use. And no this is not the world of Harry Potter but it would very similar indeed.

But this does not mean that everyone knows how to cast spells? No. Magic, or specifically, magical effects are inscribed in rune items and in turn these rune items are used in almost all facets of living. Magewrights ensure that these magical tools are maintained and the different Dragonmarked Houses has a majority in the control of the design, manufacture and distribution. Does it mean that everyone has a magical item? No. There are common, uncommon and rare items and often access is further filtered by the social class. So a lot of the more powerful items are seen amongst the elite, while the poor will probably only have a light-stone or two.
