The Market – Downtown Miami

Fresh from being recruited into the FBI Counter-terrorism Task Force’s Office of Special Assignments the team has been summoned to the ‘Market’, a run-down building on the water near Downtown. While the front of the building serves as an operational fish market, with boats offloading their catch on the dock in the rear, the inside functions as an off-site office of sorts for the OSA that comes complete with interrogation rooms and various screens and monitors that connect back to the main office so that the team’s activities can be coordinated and relayed back.

Ellie, who had been standing before one of the larger monitors, turned on her heels and greeted the team with a smile. She motioned for them to sit around the conference table. "The assignment is simple," she stated in way of greeting, "though not without plenty of danger."

The screen just past her shoulder winked on, crime scene photos began to slowly scroll across. "The Mikhailovich’s and some as of yet unknown individuals have been involved in a drug war that has been escalating recently at a significant pace with bodies dropping like it’s the ‘End of Days’. So far the DEA, FBI, and others have been unable to make any inroads into either organization. With the theft of the SEER program, the Mikhailovich Syndicate has shown themselves to be a clear danger to national security so the Office of Special Assignments has been tasked with rectifying the situation.

"But … as they have shown themselves to be hard to infiltrate we know virtually next to nothing on them other than Katja Mikhailovich is most likely it’s leader. Though try getting that statement to stick with her high media profile, social media presence, and philanthropy.

"Fortunately we are less interested in making a case against her than we are interested in gathering intelligence on their various activities here in Miami. So … posing as criminals for hire you will be expected to ingratiate yourself to her organization and hopefully get an invitation for a more permanent position."

With a knowing smirk Ellie motioned for someone to enter from the door leading out to the docks, "I believe some of you may know Nikolai."

The long haired thief sauntered in to stand beside Ellie, a roguish grin on his face as he took the team in. "Nik has some low-level connections and has agreed to make some introductions and assist where he can."

She carefully laid three file folders on the table, "Here are your covers ... so you are encouraged to be intimately familiar with the contents of these files as you will be living these lives for hopefully the foreseeable future."
OOC:
I am going to pause here in case any of you want to dialogue with Nik or have questions for Ellie.

This is a Caliber II mission

Mission Bundle: (3) PR II Cover Identities, (1) Caliber I Vehicle

This mission will be approached using the Infiltration Dramatic Conflict with the conflict rounds being scenes, the outcome of which can improve your roll ... as well as hurt.

Take the weekend to consider your cover identities and what gear you will select. I'd also encourage you to look through the Infiltration Dramatic Conflict strategies just to get a feel for what activities you might be doing, to help select your gear (and since it is a bit unknown, keep in mind that you can keep picks in reserve).

Dozer stood there, taking in the mission brief, a nonplus expression pulling back on his face.

"Well, hi Nik. Good to see you again," Dozer gave a little wave as he stepped up to his file, "I'm just going to come out and say: I am probably going to be the weak link in this plan."

He pointed over at V.

"As the twenty dollars in V's pocket can attest, I am not very good at bluffing."
OOC:
@Thundermark - Congrats, you've got +$20 spending cash. ;) And we shall mark Dozer at $80...
"So y'all are probably going to have to cover for me with all the talking."

He then opened his file, and looked at what was inside. His eyebrows raised.

"'Bill Sheridan, Ex-Army, dishonorably discharged for attacking an allied officer, now a mercenary currently down on his luck.' I almost feel like I'm being typecast," he waved a hand at his chin, "is it the beard? Am I being stereotyped because of the beard?"
Sep 9, 2019 3:56 am
V greeted he colleagues as she walked in.

"A mission infiltrating the Bratva? I thought you'd never ask!"

Turning to Dozer, she added, "don't worry about being able to speak the language, remember that crash course I gave you in Russian last week, tovarich?", giving him a hearty slap on the back.

Leafing through the cover ID dossier, she cocked an eyebrow, "Nadya Fedora Kozlov, a blind antiquities dealer from the Ural mountains. Looks like someone took Dozer's joke suggestion to heart.", she said, chuckling.
"That should help get Fenris in as well. I'll need to get darker sunglasses to pull this off.", she added w/ a grin.

"It was literally yesterday, V," Dozer grin-grimaced, "And even then I'm not sure it's going to stick."

Dozer looked over his dossier some more, and started pretend grumbling.

"Darn word salad language, tossing letters around and not even pronouncing 'em like they're spelled," he looked up at Nik with a smile and a wink, "Their boss lady's half Italian, right? Couldn't she have chosen that family name? At least I'd have a chance of remembering it correctly.

"But yeah, it looks like, in my case, we might need to play up that Ms. Koslov was worried about traveling in an area with increasing violence, so y'all hired me. My recent gig fell through, and I'm kinda desperate for work."

"There should be some good addresses in the section marked 'Analysis', Ms. Koslov," 'Sheridan' said, with just the slightest Texan-like twang, as he pointed at the index card collection on one of the tables at V's question about good sites to look up for Appraisal techniques, before turning back to Ellie.

"So let me see if I heard this correctly," Ellie waved a hand as her mind tried to process the suggestion, "You are suggesting... a monster truck? With a 20mm Gatling Gun strapped to it?"

"A'yeah," Sheridan nodded, "Because I'm thinkin', 'if I was a jackass trying to join the Russian mob, what would I drive?'"

He then raised his hands in a 'wait' gesture.

"But also, but also," he did the finger pointing with a goofy grin, "America."

He then thumbs upped.

"But also illegal," Ellie noted, quirking an eyebrow.

Sheridan shrugged, "probably not as illegal as carrying concealed firearms."

"I am reasonably certain that is not true."

Nik cleared his throat, "It also only seats two."

Sheridan paused.

"I was thinkin' we'd strap you to the hood," he said, before waving in defeat as he walked over to the gun cabinet, "Alright alright, 'stuffing an armory under my shirt' it is. Going to need a different holster for my M9."

Sheridan then pointed at Nik.

"Which I've thoroughly cleaned, thank you verymuch," he said before reaching into the cabinet to pull out a sleek bullpup, "and of course gotta thank the boss lady for being thorough. Civilian nine mil AUG converted for autofire, will fit the cover. Will need to leave some of my heavier tools at home, though. I get the feeling what we're taking isn't as strong as my truck."

His monologue quieted down a little as he started going through all his gear, though he still muttered a little as he gave himself a refresher course on concealed carry techniques.

The Market – Downtown Miami

Stephen arrived at the fish market at the appointed time, almost down to the minute. He wanted to avoid fraternizing as much as possible. Despite Dani's assurances, he still wasn't convinced he wasn't walking into a Pitfall trap. He had considered various disguises to use for the briefing but he decided it was unlikely that whatever security this group had would just let some random guy off the street enter the facility. Besides, Dani had shown she already knew who he was.

Upon his arrival Stephen had a brief meeting with Dani to discuss his service fee. The negotiating went surprisingly smoothly, all things considered. Ultimately, Stephen was able to get a very good deal for himself in exchange for using a number of his personal assets for the upcoming mission.

At the briefing, he scanned over the cover identity before setting it back down on the table. "Per the arrangement I reached with Dani, I'll be providing my own cover identity for this operation. We should hold this one in reserve, it may come in useful as a back up down the road."
OOC:

I need to define my Flawless Identity still but I think everything else should be good to go.

Also, I am going to negotiate my fee for being here using Profession / Accomplishment. As before, I am going to add the +2 Charisma Bonus to my threat and error range and rolling with +7 to include my Appearance bonus from lifestyle.

Dozer looked over from the table.

"Ah, he finally speaks," he said, normally, as he walked over to give the guy a back pat, "'You're own cover identity', huh? Must be pretty good at those, then?"

A thought crossed his mind, and he turned to Ellie.

"Hey, uh... he part of that crew we... worked with last time?"

The Market - Downtown Miami

Ellie shrugged in response to Dozer (or Bill's rather) inquiry, her discerning gaze taking in the whole of Stephen through narrowed eyes, "I can't say for sure ... though Jubal couldn't stop giggling like he knew something I didn't so ...

Nik's contact will make the introduction at the Saxony Bar in South Beach this evening so dress appropriately, otherwise you won't be let in."

She placed a key fob on the table, "Here this should help ... and a few ground rules. Obviously we expect you to infiltrate a criminal organization so the legality of some of your activities will be ignored. You do something that puts you on local law enforcement's radar you're on your own. AND NO MURDERS.

"I'll remain as close by as I can in case you need assistance, though anytime you contact me will be risky. Otherwise ... GOOD LUCK."

OOC:
All - Since no one made mention of the vehicle (other than RusVal and a monster truck) I went ahead and helped ya'll out. You are now the proud owners/borrowers of a Land Rover Discovery Sport - light SUV with luxury upgrade

As Ellie mentioned ... Exposure penalties will be somewhat lax (meaning you won't get penalties for most criminal activity) though if you are arrested by local law enforcement you will get exposure penalties, same for leaving evidence all over the place, and no blatant murder. Civilians should also not be harmed.

I will try and be clear on your objectives as they arise per scene, which in this case will be the 'conflict round' of the Infiltration Dramatic Conflict.

RusVal - You and I can run a dialogue if you want or you can just post your own with Jazz ... but your subplot is active. The Continentals are interested in Nik as a potential recruit.

RusVal/Bill - You do not have any additional Allegiance objectives this mission (though feel free to include your interaction with your contact in your next post), in this case our Allegiance and Faction objectives align. The Banshees and Continentals/Shadow Patriots are interested in infiltrating the Mikhailovich as well. Though they will ask that you update them throughout in case something comes up.

All - Feel free to dialogue with each other as you see fit and complete gearing up, or reaching out to your contacts if you deem it necessary, etc.

Thundermark - Just so I'm clear (more for accounting purposes) you are sharing your Eastern European Focus with Dozer?

Bill Sheridan shrugged.

"Hey, y'all don't have to tell me ta keep the murder count down to zero. Heck, it's the one thing I'm worried about. These rough 'n tough gangsters are always big on 'proving loyalty', which is usually code for 'kill this guy we've got a bag over the head of'."

He turned to 'Ms. Koslov'.

"In case someone asks, I'm using rubber rounds on your orders. Maybe something about not leaving some kind of smell? I'll let you take that one."

He then turned and leaned on the table. Giving a short glance as Stephen excused himself to leave, Dozer shook his head, possibly muttering "Flatlanders..." before taking a deep breath.

"Okay, less gas-guzzling idea. One thing that both mercs and gangsters love is tattoos. Not much for 'em myself, but maybe one of those temporary ones for undercover work? Then I could go sleeveless, maybe cut up denim..."

Dozer locked the door, and quickly walked over to the desk he had hidden the phone. In addition to the phone, he pulled out a spare medallion, different to the one he normally had. As he waited for the phone to boot up, he thumbed it open, before pulling out his first one and repeating with that one. He then tapped the quarter out.

He paused to look at it. He tended to play it safe, so he usually didn't take it out to look at. He looked at the front, with it's eagle-in-star design.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/582086553720061952/590066800759275541/Tom_Clancys_The_Division_22019-6-16-18-34-28_2.jpg

He then flipped it over. The front was standard, but the back was personally customized for each member. In Dozer's case it was a group photo of some stylized Revolutionary soldiers in alt-world tactical gear proudly walking forward, an American flag flying above.
OOC:
They look a bit like the Militarized Minutemen mod in Fallout 4.
In scroll text (ooc- Y'know, that artistic scroll thing they put on ye olde type pictures) above and below were etched the words "Honoring Liberty, Liberty In Honor".

Dozer smiled. Some of the guys thought it was kinda corny, but he was proud of it.

He then carefully set it inside the new medallion, before closing it up.

The phone blipped. He had a message to call.

He quickly dialed up the number, and pressed the app button when he got the tone.

"Hey Dozer, glad you called when you did."

"No problem, Jazz. What's up?"

"First of all, caught wind that you might be infiltrating Mikhailovich. Good, we've been wanting to get eyes on ourselves, so this is perfect for us. Our Micro friends are in on it too, and have sent a guy that handled the hard drive."

"Yeah," Dozer said, his voice flat, "I guessed that cover identity guy might have been related. Good to have confirmation."

"You can extend that to his whole crew, as I understand it. You know what to do."

'Crew'. Right.

"Don't worry, he's taking point," Dozer said, "I'll make sure to cover his six. Gotta say, though, feeling a bit of Inception going on here. Cover in a cover in a cover and all that."

"Probably a blessing in disguise, because that's the other thing I want to talk about. We think someone with resources might have caught your scent."

"Oh crap. What happened? Any of the other guys in trouble?"

"No, Dozer, everyone else has been quarantined and fortified. It's just you in the crosshairs."

"Oh great." Dozer said through gritted teeth, "I feel so much better for some reason."

"Like I said, this might be a blessing. Try to stay in cover as long as you can, and keep your head on a swivel. We can't... confirm who it might be, but I've got guys on the lookout, and the Flores crew is top notch, so trust in them."

Dozer paused.
OOC:
Dozer (Sense Motive) [1d20+1] - [10] + 1 = 11
Jazz (Bluff) [1d20+X] - [3] + X = Y
"Mmm, c'mon man. That was very weak, even I could catch it. Who do you think it could be?"

"Look... We don't think it's PITFALL, and one of the guys made the crazy suggestion that it might be your old girlfriend. BUT! Unless she's somehow got her mitts on some high grade resources, it's highly unlikely."

"Or she got captured or compromised, and they used the information she had to catch the trail."

"YES! Yes, thank you, that's very likely, too. So if you see her, keep your head down, it might not actually be her, it might be her with brain slugs, just DON'T talk to her! Lives are on the line, we need your head in the mission."

"Jeez, Jazz, relax, I've never heard you this worked up before. You know me. Once I'm clicked in, I'm on point until someone tells me to stop."

"You are going to think of her in your off time, aren't you?"

"ABsolutely."

Dozer heard a sigh on the other end.

"Considering the situation, we are also prioritizing the background check you asked for on Volkova. Unfortunately, there are some question marks that need answering on our end. Keep an eye on her this mission, report back on what you find, she might receive a coin yet.

That said, there is some good news. You've met Nikolai Sikorsky."

Dozer raised an eyebrow.

"The Russian land pirate? The one that helped Sebastian on top of the train?"

"Turns out he was being groomed for CIA duty until his family was killed by his grandparents. It's CIA complicated, you know."

"Oof, I'll bet. CIA, huh? This for us or our martini bros?"

"Normally I'd say this is their guy, but our Intel needs some beefing up, so we've gotten permission to call dibs on this one, with an opt out option to join them instead, if he so chooses."

"Fair enough," Dozer said, holding up the empty medallion, "Though I was barely able to think of what to say to V to get her to join. Sigh. Why can't I just knock him out, strap a Fulton to him, and let you guys take care of the rest?"

"We could try setting that up if you want."

"Guy, I was joking, sheesh. Not least of which, it'll throw the entire mission out of whack."

"Got your spare medallion?"

"Holding it right now."

"Next best thing, give him an empty one, send him to the address I'm sending you now. You can try to prime him yourself if you can, but otherwise I'll take care of it from there."

Dozer looked at his phone, and did his best to memorize it.

"Right, roger that. Actually, it might work out. I need to use the backup for the cover, I can give the usual one to him, the one the Banshee crew had briefly?"

"Roger, we got a picture for confirmation that time."

"It'll be extra easy, because it's a bit scuffed up like someone banged it on a table, or something."

"Understood. I'll be waiting."

"Alright, catch you on the flip side."

"And remember, redhead, red light."

"Yeesh, first you try to get me a date, now you're telling me to stay away from a girl that's chasing me. What a way this world works sometimes."

"Running from exes that won't let go is a time honored tradition, my man. Jazz out."

"Dozer out."

Dozer looked at his phone, and a nagging thought crept back up.

Oh, I am definitely thinking of her when I can. I at least have confirmation there...

Briefing Room

Responding to Dozer, Stephen changed the inflection of his voice to match that of Alex. "Yea, I was the guy you spoke with at the taco stand." Fishing a phone out of his pocket, he added, "I trust you still have that phone. It's the only one this phone will accept calls form."

Stephen stood up, "Now, if you will excuse me, I need to make the arrangements for my Cover ID." With a nod, he started to make his way off the premises.

A corner booth at a random diner

It was probably somewhat telling that Stephen felt safer contacting C.O.B.R.A. from a public diner over the "secure" facility but he was fairly certain that there were fewer people that wished him harm here than there. There were too many people that could too easily be working for PITFALL with the other agents around them none the wiser.

He pulled out his laptop, connected to the local wifi, routed himself through 2 different secure VPNs to make it difficult to trace and left a dead drop email for COBRA that included some details of his new ID.

New ID: Mykola Antonov
Middle Aged (46), Ukrainian man from Rudky
Retired soldier turned arms dealer. The annexation of Ukraine by Russia created supply, demand, and opportunity to transport arms across the border.
Main Language: Ukrainian
Profession: Smuggler
Interests: Cigars, Gambling
Use photo U17-2.

He then went to a dark-web chat room and left a message for his Freelance Network. He gave them some specific online information for them to create to solidify the ID. Both COBRA and his Network were capable of creating fake IDs on their own when needed but between them they had access to areas the other didn't and together they could really lock things down.
OOC:

The ID above is the Flawless Identity.

U17-2 is one of a series of photos of Stephen in various disguises that he has sent to COBRA in the past.

Briefing Room - Time-warp edit

"I can't say for sure ... though Jubal couldn't stop giggling like he knew something I didn't so …"

Stephen cleared his throat.

"Yea, I was the guy you spoke with at the taco stand." Fishing a phone out of his pocket, he added, "I trust you still have that phone. It's the only this phone will accept calls form."

With a stunned look on his face, Dozer nodded.

"Yeah, I do. That's pretty good. Wait..." a thought crossed his mind, before looking back and forth between Ellie and Stephen, "He wouldn't also be... Naw, that can't be. But Jubal was laughing about it..."

Dozer ran a hand through his hair as he stepped to the side, what was going through his mind evident on his face.

"Oh friggin Miami! Dag nabbed flatlanders and their... ugh!" he said, before turning and pointing at the bespectacled man, "Great, now I live near a beach with half-naked ladies, and you've got me paranoid about 'em!"

Despite his apparent anger, it's pretty easy to tell that he's just flustered, and nowhere near violent about it. Just a country boy once more confounded by life in the big city.

Ellie suppressed a smile.

"Shall I continue the briefing?" she asked.

"PLEASE," Dozer nodded enthusiastically.

"Nik's contact will make the introduction..."

With the briefing seemingly concluded Stephen and Nik excused themselves to confer with their own network and contacts to secure gear, leaving Varvara and Dozer to peruse the Office of Special Assignments impressive collection of gear and supplies.

Satisfied with his selections Dozer left, mentioning getting some things from his home to which V nodded in agreement while mumbling something about telling her husband she'd be out of contact for 'a while'.
Saxony Bar, Faena Hotel - Miami Beach

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/MvuiU74hyXrNZR6nUPKfVB93nLa9r0NOhsrfNwKAUGdCXF1WuFVQvaiWLr1k-RPOlVqglDdT15OR6P_i5NI2lldfEhAgSgoCoiFnzpiWAXo6QEr0fah1LyBPJPWOiDX7iz1BaewZ-g=w2400

The Saxony Bar is one of Miami’s most exclusive clubs, that is only open three days out of the week and typically reservation only, and widely recognized as THE place for the rich and famous. As the team pulled up to the valet, the line to get into the door was already extended well down the block. A young man in well-tailored clothes was nervously smoking a cigarette to the doorman’s right and upon seeing the team, more specifically Nik, recognition dawned on his face and he flicked the cigarette away and approached, extending his hand to the roguish thief. "YA mogu predstavit {I can make introductions}," he said by way of greeting in Russian, "No u vas yest' svoy sobstvennyy ottuda {But you’re on your own from there}."

Nik laughed and clapped the young man on the shoulder, "Rasslab'tes'. Vy poluchayete nas v dver {Relax. You get us in the door} … My dazhe. I nichto ne srabotayet na tebya {We’re even. And nothing will blow back on you.}."

Taking one last look at the team the young Russian thug nodded, seemingly satisfied. Before turning to the bouncer he paused and in English said, "And I would keep the Russian to a minimum. The boss is a little miffed at the Russian side of our thing so brought in some of her Italian associates." They were let through, past the extremely polite yet hulking bouncer, and descending the stairs were greeted by the loud yet not overbearing beats of the DJ and the beautiful black terrazzo floors, gold leaf ceilings, and art deco design. The staff and clientele were just as well-presented and gorgeous as the room. They were afforded little time to admire the impressive and intimate club as their host beckoned them on with a nod of his head towards a somewhat private table in the back of the room. A man sat at the table, his clothes and accessories of the highest quality – and no doubt expensive, sipping at a cocktail as lavishly decadent as the rest of the décor and yet still not as dangerous in appearance as the woman leaning on his shoulder sipping at her own cocktail. She didn’t need the tastefully revealing dress and expensive jewelry as her beauty dominated the room.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/RPYI3JbPZWT783lZduLcrY2vdaOqMhCjgPzlPzrch95oJA9AjEV2CljsLG249SQyUQ4AqAhIjuDMsBliGh3jXgU7GFVWR9q-F44lIeO6eTz1yaDbGR1VCYoj9osejB0pxYVuiStSRg=w2400https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/nXSr2gh-kloKXldbAMY3H9BCl0MRZvRMdtcmjDCVilZyyE39jnjhwA50kcsFYhAFjDC8-DB_E0NwSsZe0iUgA4JFNuvtiizLe4eRS-cPBzk-XfIhOT1ezpdfkiRd8wWz2dsWJFJhBA=w2400

Their young host was quickly dismissed, whatever greeting or introduction that was on the tip of his tongue cut off by a shooing motion of the man sitting at the table’s hand. The Russians mouth closed without uttering a sound, relief plastered upon his face as he inclined his head towards the team and quickly paced towards the club’s lavish bar. The man’s steely gaze washed over them, not nearly as unsettling as the woman’s, before finally meeting their eyes and clearly waiting for them to speak …
OOC:
All - And that concludes the Intel phase and we are now into our first scene. As we are running this as an Infiltration Dramatic Conflict you all will need to agree on your Approach and first Strategy. There is no time limit so the High or Low Approach are both options. Though keep in mind the conflict rounds in most cases will be run as a scene so the High approach will give you 4 hours to complete the scene ... the Low approach gives you 2 days (all check modifiers will be used). The sequencing will go as such ... you pick a strategy, we will in most cases play out a scene, then you will roll the conflict round check with all modifiers in play. The good news is ... you can earn bonuses to the roll for how well you perform in the scene (or if you don't do well maybe incur a penalty).

Starting Lead is 4 (for both Approaches)

Thundermark - If you are so inclined you can fill in the time after the briefing ... just include it at the beginning of your post.

Whitmore - You can elaborate how Stephen acquires his gear if you'd like. I assume he'd get his forgeries via dead drop but didn't want to assume anything?

RusVal/Whitmore - I dig the world building and great descriptions on how to make use of your Allegiance ... you each can have an AD

As for "time after the briefing", I'm really not sure what to write that won't feel "forced", like a High School English class "writing prompt", & I don't think a game is supposed to feel like homework. I mean yeah, V checks in at home, tells Max she'll be away for a bit... I'm not sure what more you really want me to say ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Alright, let's work our way easy into this...
Saxony Bar, Faena Hotel - Miami Beach

Stepping out of the driver's seat was a rugged looking bearded man, dressed in a western style vest, button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up just enough that you could see he had a tattoo on his right arm, and slacks. He reached into the Land Rover, and pulled out a cowboy hat (normal-sized, nothing over the top) that matched with his steel-toe boots (the boots were an intentional pick, wanted to look like he had a limited wardrobe and couldn't afford the whole outfit). Smoothly putting the hat on, he handed the key over to the valet with a nod before turning to open the back passenger door behind him.

He stood at attention as he waited for the woman inside to step out.

Saxony Bar, Faena Hotel - Miami Beach

V stepped out of the car, dark sunglasses adorning her face, and a velvet emerald-green longcoat accentuating her shapely figure, tapping her prop cane in one hand, the other on the harness of her "seeing-eye dog", Fenris.

She turned her head from one side to the other, as if listening to the scene, playing the part of "Nadya, black-market antiquities dealer"

Turning to Bill, she said "Mr. Sheridan, if you could lead the way, please - we have business to attend to."
Sep 28, 2019 5:41 pm
"Yes, ma'am," Sheridan said, closing the door before getting into step behind Ms. Koslov's right shoulder, occasionally lightly putting his hand up to guide her, "Going 'round the back of the Land Rover... goin' straight."

He kept his head on a swivel as he identified the clock face of the crowd they walked past, pointing out how it was around the block. Fortunately, years of being in the military made stating the blindingly obvious second nature, because it made looking like he was stating the obvious to a seemingly blind person seem natural.

"Looks like Nik's friend is here, lookin' a little nervous," he said, voice low, "He's walkin' out to meet us, two seconds."

When they stopped to listen, Sheridan stood at attention, head moving back and forth, eyes attentive for any signs of trouble.

Mykola Antonov put out the cigar he was smoking, pulled a small cigar case from his coat pocket and put his cigar in it. Little details made all the difference when it came to a proper disguise. No one would ever see him smoking this cigar but the smoke would leave an odor both in the car and on his person. The valet in the car and anyone he met could catch a whiff of the cigar and subconsciously come to accept the overall disguise more readily.

Putting the cigar case back into his coat pocket, Mykola stepped out of the vehicle adjusted his over coat, gave a nod to the valet* and made his way into Saxony Bar.

Stephen is going to activate his Flawless Identity. I need to spend an action die to use Flawless Identity, something I forgot about in the first mission with Beatrice :S.

I used 2 Action Dice for the initial Profession/Accomplishment check and 1 for Flawless Identity. I started with 3 plus you awarded me one more above so unless I am missing something (again), I should have 1 Action Die left.

I don't know fashion so I just stole a picture and I have no idea if it is appropriate to the scene or not. ;)

* To add to the list of "Stupid things I learn through RPGs", it is apparently customary to tip a valet when they retrieve your car on the way out so I won't do it now. ;)

OOC:
Didn't know that either. Imagine I tipped the valet when I gave him the key.
"And I would keep the Russian to a minimum. The boss is a little miffed at the Russian side of our thing so brought in some of her Italian associates."

A little laugh escaped Sheridan's lips.

"Won't hear any complaints from me, pal," he said, tipping his hat at the bouncer with a nod as they passed, before touching Ms. Koslov's shoulder to guide her direction down the stairs.

As they entered the room, he gave a low whistle, "Swanky, all glow-y and stuff," he said, before lifting his hat briefly to a female staffer, "Miss."

The hat came fully off when they got to the ones they were supposed to meet, Sheridan holding it relaxed over his heart. He also stood behind Ms. Koslov, for two reasons: 1.) to show who was where on the pecking order here, and 2.) to better obscure the pistol he had concealed in a holster under his belt. He felt he'd done a good job stashing it there...

…And the holster would make it harder to spot, but they were going to be standing there for a bit, so anything to obscure sightlines would be of help.

As their contact walked off in relief, Sheridan leaned in to half-whisper to the 'blind' woman.

"Man to your front, woman just to the right, ma'am," he said before turning to scan the room as the others started introductions.

When it was his turn, he turned back to nod at their hosts.

"Bill Sheridan. Security," and another scan of the room as he listens...

Nadya walked in, tapping her prop cane in one hand, the other on the harness of her "seeing-eye dog", Fenris.

"Well don't just stand there, durak (fool), help a blind woman to her seat!", she scolded her "bodyguard" Bill while pretending to thwap him with her cane.

"Nadya Kozlov, Antiquities Dealer", she introduced herself, handing out a pair of the bugged business cards to their hosts.

Taking a seat on the couch opposite to their hosts, she extended her left hand expectantly & sarcastically remarked "who's dick do I have to suck to get a drink around here? Vodka, Ruskii Standart, on the rocks, pozhalustaha (please)."

"Nik, introduce us to your friends.", she said, nodding toward their hosts.

Mykola approached the table and nodded to the seated pair in deference. Mykola addressed the pair and, in a formal tone, said, "Good evening, my name is Mykola Antonov. Word on the street is that you may have a problem and I believe we may be of service to you and your organization. May we join you so that we may discuss business?"

Sense Motive - (1d20+6)

Saxony Bar, Faena Hotel - Miami Beach

Playing the part of diligent bodyguard to perfection Dozer apologetically pulled the chair out for his 'boss', his trained eyes easily picking out the four bodyguards lurking in the crowd.

The man took the offered business cards and held them up between his pointer and index fingers to the bodyguard that suddenly appeared at his shoulder. The guard took the cards and placed them in his inside jacket pocket before melting back into the crowd. The man's gaze shifted to the bar, snapping his fingers to get the bar tenders attention before pointing towards the newcomers and in a very thick New York sounding accent, ordered drinks.

His eyes narrowed and lingered on Dozer, or Sheridan rather, before meeting the woman's at his shoulder. The woman didn't seem to pick up on what the man was trying to say and he turned, a flash of annoyance at his bodyguards before finally speaking to them.

"Next time you come heavy to a meeting with me, don't expect to walk away," he spat with a pointed glance at Bill, "And the street needs to learn to keep its mouth shut."

His appraising gaze swept across them, another glance towards the woman before continuing, "You have until I finish my drink."

His eyes met Mykola's, who seemingly established that he would be speaking on the group's behalf. The arms dealer couldn't work out who might be in charge though, the man had been the only one to speak thus far ... though he had to take into account those glances towards the woman. He definitely could tell they were 'involved' and probably more than just a sexual relationship.
OOC:
Thundermark - Your last two posts are exactly what we are looking for. Good description, telling what the character is seeing through her own eyes. Great work! I am awarding you an A(ction)D(ice)

RusVal - I hope it was clear but just in case it wasn't ... at least the man recognized Sheridan is carrying. Though concerned only enough to be slightly annoyed (probably more at his bodyguards than Bill) and issue a warning.

Whitmore - Mykola can't get a read on the man at all. Though thus far he's been the only one to talk and the bodyguard did seem to defer to him. The woman seems to be deferring to the gentlemen but only slightly. The fact that she's leaning on his shoulder seems more like that deference may be more the appearance of loving g/f or wife rather than as a subordinate.

All - You have your opening ... he is waiting for you to make the pitch.

Sheridan couldn't help but grin at the warning, before looking directly at one of the bodyguards trying to mingle in the crowd.

"As I understand you've had a bit of a setback recently. A couple dozen guys that couldn't protect one hacker from two agents? Even your guards here couldn't prevent someone coming through the front door while packing heat. Your men lack the competence to do their jobs." Mykola gave a nod towards Bill's back as headed to the bar. "Sheridan there could have outperformed all of them. If you would have had him defending your assets . . . " Mykola just trailed off and shrugged. "People like us, we make everyone around us better. Our services would be a bargain at twice the price."

The beginning of a smirk pulled at the corners of the man's mouth, the features of his face perhaps slightly betraying his appreciation at the seemingly tight leash this blind black market agent seemed to keep on the help as his steely gaze followed the cowboy to the bar and mumbled something disparaging about a cowboy who wouldn't drink whiskey.

His brow quirked in slight surprise, his eyes returning to the table and met Mykola's who seemed to have considerable knowledge of 'their thing' and its affairs.

Mykola cast the couple in an appraising glance of his own. It wasn't hard to deduce what the man's line of work, a career criminal through and through -- loanshark, money laundering, etc., etc.. Though if asked he'd probably respond with 'waste management' or 'union rep'.

The woman sitting with him was clearly his wife. Mykola could tell now but the familiar way in which she touched the man, her body language betraying the intimacy, and his his eyes dropped to her hand he saw the ring ... which matched that worn by the man.

Though the accent was clearly from New York, he could tell that he was probably first generation ... that his parents and grandparents had come over from Italy. Which meant this man's brand of 'football' differed from mainstream America ... and 'soccer' was a passion. He also looked like a golfer.

I have responded to the Cold Read ability use as it sounded like Thundermark was waiting for the results before determining his next move.

Sitting down, Sheridan thanked the lady that handed him his water. He looked over at the relaxed contact.

"Yeah, I know. Probably won't get many chances to drink here, and I get a water," he took his hat off and ran a hand through his hair, "Business overrides pleasure today, I'm afraid, and I need a clear head and a low temper, so..."

He tilted his head in a 'what can you do?' motion before taking a drink, eyes carefully moving around to keep an eye on things.

Nadya sipped her water, aerating it in the customary Russian fashion.

She set the glass down on the end-table with a "clunck" as if foreshadowing a punctuation to a sentence yet-unuttered. "So. Let us talk shop. Your business generates a lot of cash, but you need a way to move it, turn it into "respectable" money, the kind you can use to keep places like this open. That's where I come in. My business caters to just such "discerning clientele. I have a mutually lucrative business proposition for you.

If you haven't heard of me, there's a reason for that - my operation is the blackest of black markets - makes "Silk Road" look like your great-aunt's Sunday flea-market. Plug those cards into any computer card-reader, it's the only way those I deem worthy can access my dark-web auction block.

The subtle features of the man's face gave no indication whether he was buying their pitch, it was the woman however who leaned in ... her whispered words lost in the the wash of the DJs music. The man's eyes widened a bit and he turned to meet the woman's, who smiled warmly towards her man and leaned in to reinforce what was said with a small peck on his cheek. Returning his wife's smile with a small one of his own he turned, his dangerous and yet appraising eyes taking in the team.

"My wife is intrigued," he stated with a tone that sounded like he was probably less so, "we'll be in touch." He emphasised the intention by leaning over to pat the jacket pocket of the guard that had taken Nadya's cards. Draining the rest of his glass he stood and offered his arm to his wife, whose smile seemed more like cat intrigued by a mouse than a business opportunity. Pausing before he and his entourage headed for the door he waved a finger at the table and more specifically their drinks, "stay as long as you like and order whatever ... it'll be on me."

His wife gave his arm a tug, her look promising much to come if he left then and turning with a smirk he added, "enjoy your evening."
OOC:
All - As hopefully has been conveyed, you have not been turned away. As you have chosen the Quick Peek strategy you have some options available. You may make the Bureaucracy roll now if you'd like. It is a cooperative check so there are opportunities to add a bonus with a succesful 'helper' roll. Also because Sheridan snuck in a gun, I think the mob boss was impressed with the balls on him so I'm prepared to offer a +1 for that and you have the wife intrigued with your sales pitch (AKA impress check) so that can be another +1. Which would wipe out the negative (-2) modifier listed under the Quick Peek strategy.

Alternatively there are additonal bonuses to be had if you elect to stay in the scene ... the bugs are still in play (and they have a range of 200 ft?)

Or any other clever ideas you may have?
Oct 7, 2019 7:04 am
"Huh, that was even quicker than I expected," Sheridan said as the couple got up to leave, noting the look the woman was giving to her man.

After they and the guards left, the 'cowboy' stood up and sauntered back to the group.

"Wow, ma'am," he said to Ms. Koslov, "Thought you were BSing me when you said women loved crypto-currency."
Oct 7, 2019 11:11 pm
"Eh, these types - dangle something new & shiny in front of them like a toy & they dance for you", Nadya said under her breath.

"Perhaps we should take our drinks to go and see what's on the radio in the car", she said w/ a knowing nod of her head.
Oct 7, 2019 11:19 pm
Sheridan nodded, "Very good, ma'am."

And for the briefest of seconds, his eyes looked at Nik, before he turned and ordered a root beer to go. Still had to drive, after all...

The trio (and working dog) exited the club just in time to see the valet pull up the steel colored Maserati Levante up to the curb, the woman still holding onto the man's arm with her head resting on his shoulder. One of the burly bodyguards opened the rear passenger door for the waiting couple as the other tipped the valet and moved around the car to the driver's seat. The luxury SUV began to move away just as an identical one pulled up behind, two more large men identical to the ones that left with the couple appeared to tip the valet and entered the vehicle then sped away to follow their bosses' car.

Their own vehicle was brought, the hopeful patrons waiting in line looking on and wondering what celebrities they might be missing as the team entered the luxury SUV and pulled away. Traffic was moderate and the effective range of the tracker allowed them to follow at a considerable distance. The drive was pleasant as the couple took them onto the I-195 on ramp and the Julia Tuttle Causeway towards North Miami, the bright neon lights of the MacArthur bridge and Downtown in the distance made a glowing tapestry of color on the relatively calm waters of Biscayne Bay. Once across, they exited onto Biscayne Blvd. and headed downtown before stopping at a high rise tower just below Bayfront Park along the Miami Riverwalk. Pulling up and discreetly parking across the street, they just caught the familiar forms of the couple entering the lobby arm and arm with two of their bodyguards following behind as the remaining two were parking their vehicles in the tower's underground garage.

The audio thus far had provided little substance, music had obscured the conversation between the couple and when could be made out seemed to be nothing more than flirtatious small talk and now was picking up a conversation between two of the body guards that consisted of, in graphic detail, what they would have liked to do to the waitresses at the club.
OOC:
All - As the range increment on the bugs was 200 ft and signal degradation/interference didn't begin until 5 range increments (which if I did my math right was 330+ yards) I figured you could easily follow the car without being noticed. You now know where the couple are staying, which I am going to say will provide an additional +1 to your Bureaucracy roll should you choose to roll now.

You all are welcome to stay in scene if you have any further ideas on what may/may not earn additional bonuses. It is clear however the bodyguards are in possession of the bugs so it is unlikely it will 'hear' anything useful (though I am going to assume that once you make the roll that you will let Ellie/Dani know you have them in play and they will put a team on them just in case).

RusVal - Once the roll is made I am going on the assumption that everyone will 'turn in' for the night meaning you will go back to your cover house. We can run a Dozer/Nik chat at that point, where it makes sense to say that Dozer pulls Nik aside.

All - On that note, you all are more than welcome to describe your cover house. My initial thought in giving the IDs in the mission bundle was that the assumption would be that everyone would be in a big house that you rented. But you can make it whatever you want it to be.

'Sheridan' sighed as they listened to the guards.

"Well, we've at least erased any chance of guilt I'd feel about shooting this guys if it comes to that."

He felt a cold wet nose against his neck as Fenris nudged it before panting.

Smiling, Dozer reached up and petted the dog.

"Or at least the ones you don't get to first, isn't that right boy?"

Fenris gave a little yawn before going back to panting.

--------------

The next bit Dozer was a little worried about. He simply had trouble wrapping his mind around big picture organizational mechanics. So while 'Mickey' was taking the lead on figuring out the approach, 'Sheridan' was just going to do his best not to screw up too badly.

Later, after much misadventure, everyone's headed back to the safehouse. Nik has asked for someone to drive him home, and Dozer has volunteered...

Land Rover
Dozer glanced over as he and Nick got strapped in. Ever since he got the order, the soldier had gone over what he'd say again and again... He took a breath.

"Hey, so, uh... I'd actually been hoping to talk to you man, though we've been a bit busy getting everything ready..." Dozer said in a normal voice.

Nik glanced over, his brow rising slightly as a small smirk pulled at the corners of his mouth.

"Is that right?" he stated simply, waiting for 'Sheridan' to elaborate.

"Yeah," Dozer said, putting the vehicle into gear, "It just kinda struck me recently... When we first met, you kind of gave of this Robin Hood-ish rogue persona, what with your whole 'I like to make the Russian mob's life miserable when I can' thing.
"But... working with, um, us... that seems a bit above 'just making their lives miserable'. That's more something someone with a grudge does.
"So I wanted to ask ya: What'd they do? If you don't mind?"

The smirk faded as the brow furrowed, eyes narrowing as the thief cast the agent in an appraising glare, "a family matter. Personal. Something I'd rather not discuss." He turned away, a slight distance look to his eye as he appeared to be looking out the luxury vehicles tinted windows.

Dozer tipped his head noddingly.

"I don't blame ya. I do not blame you at all. If my grandfather had my whole family killed, I'd probably wouldn't want to talk about it, either.
"Especially when it's 'CIA complicated'."

Nik turned, eyes wide in surprise... his face flushing slightly in anger, "and where does one come by such assumptions?"

Dozer's eyes glance over before going back to the road, "My Commanding Officer."

Nik's steely gaze narrowed, face still flushed. "If the FBI knew as much as you claim, they would have arrested me long ago," he snorted, a bit dismissively.

"Not FBI. Army," Dozer looked in the mirror, making sure they weren't followed, before holding out a hand in a shaking position, "Let me re-introduce myself. Sergeant Bill Barnum, currently in Army Reserves while I'm working in this AO."

The soldier looked over, "My brothers in arms call me 'Dozer'."

"Army!?" Nik exclaimed, looking confused as his eyes dropped to the offered hand. The long-haired thief took it, a bit unsure, "the Army's not really my thing. I have a bit of problem with authority."

Dozer laughed, "That's alright, I won't hold it against you. My bosses apparently don't mind, either, since they really would like you working for them," Dozer shook the hand before going back to the wheel, "To be fair, we're not all Army. There's Navy boys, some airmen, Marines... even got a number of civilians, of which you no doubt will fit into."

"Working?" Nik blurted doubtfully, his face scrunching to match his tone, "for the military? Doing what? For who?"

Dozer sighed again, thumb scratching and eyebrow, "Look, I'll be frank. I'm not much of a salesman. So if what I'm about to say weirds you out or something, it's probably just me messing up explaining it..."

Dozer paused, no doubt being obvious in how he was struggling to find the right words even as he spoke.

"When President Winter was impeached, a number of the military officers that had been instrumental in bringing him down decided they had had enough," the soldier said, "For decades America had been spiraling downward, all the rights and values it had stood for being increasingly thrown out of the window. Whether this was from greedy power grabs by politicians, or from giving more and more power away to global organizations like PITFALL in the name of security.
"When we take our oaths, we swear to protect the United States Constitution from all enemies from without and within. And we have been increasingly failing to fulfill that oath for waaay too long.
"We are the ones who take that oath seriously."

Dozer looked out the side window briefly, "We started small. Our General reached out to the people who he'd been working with to take President Winter down.
"No doubt you've heard of the Shadow Patriots?"

Nik relaxed somewhat, the smirk returning along with a bit of mischief in his eye as Dozer made his pitch, the thief clearly finding amusement in the infantryman's discomfort.

"No doubt," he provided in response, offering a mock salute followed by a slow mocking claps of his hands, "You ever think of taking a nice cushy job in an Army recruiting office? Great speech. I could feel patriotism. Might have even shed a tear as I heard the patriotic music playing in the background."

Dozer just smirked back with a quirked eyebrow.

"Probably not as many tears as that PITFALL agent I shattered the ribcage of with my bare hands," He said, shaking his head as he looked at the road, "Considering he murdered a civilian before trying to pin the civvie as a terrorist for it, the only regret I have is that I didn't drive him all the way into the grave.
"And if I wanted cushy, I would have stayed in Japan, instead of loading up into a VTOL and diving into every combat zone they send me to.

"Yeah, I know. 'America, fuck yeah, coming to save the motherfucking day, yeah',"
Dozer wiggled his fingers on the wheel for emphasis as he mockingly said the phrase, "But I guarantee you, every one of us has come face to face with the stupidity, and the injustice..."

The wheel creaked a little as the soldier squeezed it.

Nik's hand drifted to scratch at the day or two old growth on his face, a thoughtful expression underneath, "Yeeaah. Combat's not exactly my thing either. Particularly if PITFALL is involved. So far I've managed to stay off their radar."

Dozer leaned his head back with another sigh, "Like I said, I'm not much of a salesman. I'm infantry, through and through. They call me in, I'm either shooting somebody, or doing firearm maintenance. Or both. But right now, I'm just the messenger."

Dozer put on a blinker and pulled off the road.

"Don't worry, I'm just finding a place to park real quick," he said before finding a spot to stop.

The thief looked as the agent pulled out a medallion, before looking up with an 'and' expression on his face, "I know I like shiny things, but..."

"It's kinda tricky working these things while you drive," Dozer explained as he thumbed both flat sides. The cap opened, and inside the pocket Nik could see a folded up piece of paper.

"I need you to understand, though," Dozer continued, "We don't invite just anyone. We are walking a very, very dangerous line. We are turning to commanding officers, senators, maybe even our president, and saying, 'No. You are wrong. I know better, and I'm doing this my way'.
"We know how horribly bad that line of thinking could go. That's why we vet everyone. Everyone. If we felt there was any chance you would abuse what we do, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
"We also don't want to force you into anything. We are 100% volunteer. On this piece of paper is an address. I'd suggest at least looking at that before closing this back up, because it's keyed to my biometrics and anyone else from my group, so you won't be able to open it again."

Dozer held it out, "Look, all I ask is that you go there, listen to what my CO has to say. After that, if you want to walk away, go back to your little vendetta, no one will stop you. If you still think our group is not for you, but want to help, we can hook you up with some of our friends instead. Just give us a chance to argue our case, preferably from someone more eloquent."

Dozer holds it back a little before Nik could grab it, "Just... remember this. Once these mob guys are taken down, then what? Will you just let the breeze carry you wherever afterwards? Because I will tell you from firsthand experience, that breeze is the sign of an incoming storm. There are those out there, bigger and scarier than anything these thugs can dish out, just waiting for their chance.
"And we need everyone we can get to stand against it."

Dubiously and carefully Nik took the coin, eyes drifting to the worn metal medallion as if it might explode in his hand. Taking the paper he looked at the contents, mumbling to himself as he memorized the writing. With a smirk he rolled down the window, before holding the paper out, taking his lighter from his pocket to set the end aflame and dropping it... watching it curl ash on the ground and pocketing the coin. His head swept across the front window and then his own, his hand reaching out to grip the door handle, "This is close enough for me... if there's nothing else?" his brow arched in question as he looked to Dozer to see if the agent had anything more to add.

Said agent looked up in a thinking expression.

"Um..." he said, working his fingers in a counting motion, "Stephen knows who I am, as Dozer... I think, probably, if he really was Beatrice. After that, I don't believe anybody else at the OSA, and few in the FBI as a whole, knows, though considering how legendary Agent Flores is, she might have figured it out.
"After this I might try to work my nickname into our current mission, play it off as what people called me while I was active duty. Should be easy, because that's actually true.
"So to the outside world, I'm just, um..."
A quick look around, "What I was as you knew me before now."

The thief mimed locking his lips with a smirk, "Yes Sir!" he added with a mock salute and wink before stepping out of the car and pulling a cigarette out to light.

"Don't call me 'Sir', I work for a living!" Dozer shouted out with a return smirk and a wave, "Heh. Seriously, you call Lieutenants and up 'Sir'. See you tomorrow!"

Dozer then pulled away, leaving Nik with a medallion, and everything they just talked about.

"Hey guys, I wanted to run a last second idea past all of you," 'Sheridan' said as he entered, "So I'm thinkin', having Bill as a common first name is handy for not giving myself away, but it can make communication confusing. And instead of risking saying my actual last name, I was thinking that, when referring to my 'real' self, we should use my nickname from when I was oversees.

Office of Special Projects

Very early morning ...

Jubal 'Jay' Kekoa rubbed tired eyes as he stifled a very large yawn, turning as the automatic sliding doors slid aside to admit one Very Special Agent Daniela Flores. "You're still here!?" she said to large Samoan man by way of greeting.

"Yeah," he replied tiredly, "I started getting some action on the teams' legends. They were so hastily thrown together I was worried they might get burned ... or at least some holes punched in them so I was doing a little creative editing on the fly."

The large, muscled computer hacker giggled slightly ... clearly impressed with himself, "They were digging deep so I threw up some social media accounts for the team." He pushed a key and an instagram account with the handle justfenniandme popped up, a picture of Varvara or 'Nadya' rather sunbathing in a barely there two piece on some beach. Is that Tel Aviv? Dani thought as Jay continued his back patting. "They quit once they saw those. I don't know what it is about socail media that convinces people someone is legit."

The special agent in charge just rolled her eyes, "You better hope Varvara doesn't see it. That dog might just enjoy all that extra meat you have on your bones." Dani smiled as the amusement faded from her computer tech's face, "Anything interesting turn up?

The burly hacker suddenly became all business, his thick fingers flying across the keyboard as documents and spreadsheets began to fill the bank of monitors, "Once you sorted through all the bravado and bull shit, what the bodyguards had to say was actually somewhat useful." The man shrugged his massive shoulders as his eyes scanned the informaton he had assembled onscreen, "We have more of a picture than anyone else has managed that's for sure. The Mikhailovics are clearly a crime syndicate ... though I guess we more or less new that.

He pushed a few keys, bringing a particular set of information to the forefront, "The background checks on the team were conducted from a law office Downtown ... After a bit of digging I was able to piece together that they also have quite a few dockworkers, custom officials, dockmasters, and what not on the take down at the Port.

"The firm's biggest client is Katja but the lawyers have been careful not to link her to any of the illicit activities they are covering up. They represented the family before her ... and her ascension to the top may not have been exactly a peaceful succession. But ... like I said. No way you can tie her to anything right now. Her instagram alone has millions of followers ..."

Dani tapped her mouth thoughtfully, staring at the screen and digesting her technicians words, "Good work Jubal. Go home. Get some rest."

Jay, stifling a yawn, nodded in agreement as he raised a finger in a hold that thought manner, "Before I go ... about the other things you were having me look into. That Stephen fellow is proving to be a challange ... you were right to admire his tradecraft."

He leaned back in his chair, meeting his bosses eyes with a touch of concern behind his own, "Dozer though ... we're not the only ones looking."

"PITFALL?" Dani asked, her tone concerned.

"No. Nobody nearly as amateur and sloppy as them," he snorted in contempt with a slight chuckle, "The coding did seem more military style ... though more sophisticated. Definitely private sector."

"Dig into it. Though not tonight. Head home and get some rest. Who knows what the team might need later," Dani said as Jay could see the wheels of her mind churning.

Playing the part of 'wealthy arms dealer' and 'entourage' to perfection, Sheridon was cooking breakfast while Mykola was having a cigar on the balcony, taking in the impressive view of the Miami River while Nayda was having the vision impaired function on her tablet read her the international financial section of the local paper when the phone ... the very phone whose number was provided to the couple the evening before beeped to indicate a message, the vision impaired function on the phone simply stating 'Crandon Park. 10 AM'

"...Blue on black, tears on a riveeeer, push on a shooove, don't mean much. Joker on Jack, match on a fiiiire…"

The main reason Dozer decided to give Sheridan his Texas twang can easily be laid at the feat of his mother. All those years listening to country music, and watching TV shows with country and/or southern speakers, had a real effect on the young Billy Barnum. Heck, one time he found himself slipping into the accent when talking to someone from his platoon that was a native speaker, only really noticing when it was pointed out.

So as he quietly sang to himself as he was cooking, he was just as much practicing Sheridan's twang as he was getting himself into the mindset.

Another thing he could thank his mom for, of course, was cooking. A self-reliant Yankee through and through, she was determined that her boys were going to be self-sufficient, including making food for themselves. Funnily enough though, her teachings never really caught on with Dozer until after he was deployed, when he was making engine-grilled recipes and doing his best with MREs. So while he'd probably be nowhere near being fancy with his food, he was good at following directions, being methodical with each step, syncing timers, and knowing how to keep something from being burnt.

"'Crandon Park. 10 AM,'" he heard from the other room. Sheridan quickly walked over and pulled out his phone, punching the location into Google Maps. As the display popped up, the timer beeped.

"Food's ready!" he called as he put the food on plates, taking 'Mickey' and Nayda's food and drink out first before returning to grab his scrambled eggs and bacon with toast. As he picked at his food, he used a stylus to look at the map, planning out their approach, as well as looking at possible problem directions.

Mykola nodded in thanks when the breakfast was served and discussed their next moves while eating.

"Things have gone well so far but let's not get cocky. Things can turn bad in a heartbeat." Mykola said.

"The Intel we have gathered so far suggests that they may have another business or venture going on so we may need to do some more recon. If we do dig up enough dirt to put an end to their organization, your people are going to need to know where everyone is hiding. We also need to find out what their plans are, what's their end game, why are they here. If we can get access to their computer network we might be able to find out some information there as well."
OOC:

I think we have 2 options for the next phase of our Infiltration; another Quick Peek or a Data Run.

Recon from Quick Peek can pick out whatever their last Site is (they have a 3 rating, we know of 2) and possibly get a feel for the types of people working for them (standard NPC stat block).

But I think the 2 things we REALLY want are going to be in a Data Run. Intelligence can start filling in the Organizations goals and Access Point would give us access to hack into their computers. With 1 or 2 hours of Internal Access, we might be able to pull out a lot of information.

Crandon Park - Key Biscayne

The well manicured lawns, combed beaches, and elegantly trimmed palm trees of Crandon park were a stark contrast to the bored well tailored gentlemen leaning against a steel Maserati Levante and smoking a cigarette. At their approach he tossed the vice aside right in front of two park signs thanking the patrons for not smoking and picking up their trash. His face scruntched, a flash of annoyance as his gaze dropped from sizing up the trio to Fenris. Annoyance less from any sort of fear of the dog and more from the fur the long haired animal was clearly going to leave in his luxury car. Mouth taut, a frustrated snort, proceeded the man walking to the trunk of the car and pushing the button that would raise the automatic lift gate.

"In," he said in a very thick accent, his look moving from 'Nayda', to the rest of the team, and then the dog as his hand gestured to the dog and then the trunk. Before the dog could jump in, the man removed two car magnets ... that read Sunshine State Realty and clearly another source of annoyance as he placed them on the front passenger and driver side doors and motioned the rest of the team to get into the vehicle.

The man had little to say, eyes focused on the road ahead and occasionally adjusting the radio when commercials or a song he did not care for played. They stayed on Key Biscayne, slowly driving through the wealthy neighborhoods that covered the island. As they made their way out on Mashta Island the houses increased significantly in both size and value and at the end of the islands point the gentlemen slowed the car and creeped around a culdesac.

Pointing at a particular house and in very heavily Italian accented English, "The bossa say ... you wanna in. Kill the man in that house."
OOC:
All - I left it here in case you wanted to prob for more information. Assuming you pick the Show of Loyalty strategy then this would be the assignment ... killing said man in said house. I'll elaborate further in my next post if you chose this route.

Or alternately if you want to try and go for the other strategies you mentioned you can. Claim you'll have to think on it or whatever. Then just explain what strategy you DO intend to employ and how specifically.

Nadya jolted awake, thanked Sheridan for breakfast, and ate with the others.

She felt her phone buzz. Pulling it out of her pocket, she squinted at it in confusion "what the... I don't have a ScrapBook app. Ohh, but Nadya does. Hey, I'm looking damn good in these beach pics, of the vacations I never went on", she commented on the deep fakes of her in skimpy swimsuits, including a digital face replacement video that looked almost as real as the genuine article sitting at the table.

"Might have to make some of these a reality sometime..."

Pulling aside her team out of earshot, Nadya whispered, "Alright, what are our options? Fake the guy's death & put him under FBI protection until we get the thing w/ the Mob to blow over?"

Oh, now that is a special kind of evil, Sheridan jokingly thought at the fancy dressed man littering.

The gentleman stopped Sheridan after Ms. Koslov was in the back seat. The Italian looked at Sheridan's arm tattoo, much easier to make out because of the muscle t-shirt and cargo pants combo, and mouth still taut, simply pointed, "Back."

"Heh, some people don't appreciate art," Sheridan smirked as he got in behind the driver's seat, pointing to Nik (whom they had picked up on the way) toward the front passenger seat.

"The bossa say ... you wanna in. Kill the man in that house."

Out of the corner of his eye, Sheridan saw Nadya lean over to whisper something to 'Mickey'.

However, a grimacing smile was on Sheridan's face.

Eeeeeasy now, security outside, don't want to raise too much of a ruckus, the soldier thought as he fought the urge to grab the thug driving by the throat and dragging him into the back.

Instead Sheridan just chuckled as he unclicked his belt, and leaned forward to clamp his left hand onto the driver's shoulder.

"Yo boss, I think there's something wrong with this guy's speakbox," he said toward Nadya, slowly pulling himself forward until he was leaning over the 'gentleman's' right, Sheridan's right arm resting on the back of the seat just so the burning demon-man on it was in full view, "because it almost sounded to me like this dipshit pastaball told us to 'kill' a guy, like we were some low-rent hitmen or something."

Sheridan leaned in closer to the guy's ear, an evil looking grin on the soldier's face, "In fact, he was SO DAMN VAGUE about it, why don't we just kill this guy, and say he was in that building over there when we did it?"

His left hand squeezed tighter.

"After all, if his boss can't be bothered to take this seriously enough. TO SEND SOMEONE WHO CAN GIVE PROPER DIRECTIONS. Then I don't see why we should take this guy seriously either."

Sheridan slapped the guy's right shoulder before leaning back in, "I know! Why don't I start pulling this pizza fucker's teeth out until he starts saying the 'correct' words for this situation! I brought my handy-dandy multi-tool with me, I'm sure I can find something that'll work..."

The driver's eyes widened in a flash of surprise at the sudden invasion of his personal space, before narrowing as his face changed a deep red, his mouth momentarily going taut before stretching out into a forced smile that was at odds with the barely controlled rage in his eyes.

"You one to talk," he growled, "You sound like unintelligent man whose neck is red."

In the rear view mirror his eyes flicked towards Mykola, "Did he not offer your services? To take care of our hacker problem?"

His lips curled into a barely amused sneer, "What more directions you need? Man in house make many mistakes. Man in house gets made example of."
OOC:
RusVal - That's right. The 'Pizza Fucker' just called Sheridan a dumb redneck :-) Also, obviously your intimidation fell on deaf ears ... I mean, what kind of bodyguard would he be if he was easily intimidated.

The rest of you - Sheridan won't get any helpful information out of this man for the remainder of the scene. Mykola or Nadya is more than welcome to politely ask for more specifics. Otherwise you can move yourself back to the park in your next post (Thundermark has already had Nadya begin the scene with the beginnings of a plan).

All - Since the agreement was to continue on with the 'Show of Loyalty' strategy, 'killing' the man in the house is obviously what will fulfill that. Since you all elected to go with the low profile approach you have a full 2 days to accomplish the task. You can view the house on google maps - 400 S Mashta Drive - to help you in your planning. If you want specifics just explain how you want to obtain the information. Otherwise all you know at this point is that it appears that the man has upped his security. You saw at least one security guard and dog patrolling the driveway.

Sheridan paused, his face a blank. He then cleared his throat, and straightened the driver's outfit.

"On second thought, don't want to have to clean out spit and blood outa the thing," he said, doing his best not to sound deflated as he got back in his seat.

*Thunk*

The tip of Nadya's cane passed diagonally under the driver's neck and impacted the inside of the driver's-side window.

In a tone cold as vodka on the rocks, she whispered into the driver's ear "I may be blind, but my other senses are perfectly fine, even better. Tell me I did did not just hear you mouthing off to one of my guys over a little friendly rough-housing? I was under the impression we were all on amicable terms here. Were that to change, you'd be outnumbered 4-1. So how do you want to do this - you wanna play tough-guy or play smart?"

The burly driver snorted dismissively with a roll of his eyes, "What you carrot. He stick?" His eyes, looking in the rear view mirror took in Sheridan, Nik and Mykola, narrowing slightly at Fenris and what the large animal was most likely doing to the trunk of his vehicle, before turning to Nadya. "You all whine like mule," he spat, his tone clearly stating that he felt carting them around was beneath him, "You want in. Take care of problem."

And with that he turned his attention back to the road, clearly done with any further discussion, mumbling to his self in Italian. When the returned to the park, he couldn't get them out of his SUV fast enough, tires squeeling as he left.

"400 South Mashta Drive, Key Biscayne, FL... Yeah, thought I saw this when we drove up. Bill Bags Cape Florida State Park,"
he showed the map to the others, "Got a spot we can swim over from, and a lot of foliage to get lost in."

He then got a bit closer to Mickey and lowered his voice even further, "Hey, uh, how good are you at disguising other people? Because we got a spare identity lying around, don't we?"
Oct 23, 2019 3:38 am
Nadya tapped her cane on the sidewalk, deep in thought as she stared at the horizon...

"Well, we could always "borrow" a John Doe from the city morgue, and work his face over until it's unrecognizable..."

Feeling the eyes of her teammates upon her, she shrugged and responded "What? The corpse is already dead."

Nope, he didn't.

"We can get a boat for the approach. Then, we may not need a body. If we can get him out of the house and onto the boat we can smuggle him to a safe house and claim we gave him the ol' 'Chicago Overcoat'. Yeah, we were dropped off back at the park, and Nadya took us out of earshot range.
Sheridan's eyebrow raised a little, as if such an obvious thing hadn't occurred to him.

"Riiight. Boats. That'll make things easier." he leaned back a little, "Sorry, been a while since I worked in an area with functioning businesses."

Sheridan looked back at the map, and scratched his chin.

"Well, whatever we think up, we're gonna need a bit more info. While I get the feeling we weren't gonna get much help regardless, we kinda… ticked off the guy before we asked him to elaborate," he looked back up with a mischievous smile, "we might be able to use that to our advantage later. But what we do have are some binoculars, a radio..."

Sheridan looked over at Nik, "... and a sneaky guy. Up for a bit of a nature walk, Nik?"

Crandon Park - Key Biscayne

The park was lightly crowded, being still early on a Friday morning, so the small assembled crew was afforded ample time to discuss the task. One thing was made abundantly clear ... killing the mystery man was not an option. A theory was proposed, or rather it was wondered aloud if the target might not be Kevin Medroff, the recently captured hacker who had realized an opportunity in SEER. Nik, chuckled aloud and mentioned if witness protection included a mansion like that he knew plenty of individuals he'd be willing to flip on. Discussion moved to how to dislodge the target from his luxurious confines, a loose agreement that perhaps acquiring a boat might make the most sense. It became clear that a concrete plan could not be established until they knew more about what they were dealing with.

Smirking, a roguish glint to the eye that only Nik seemed to effortlessly pull off, he turned to Sheridan "What'd you have in mind?"
Oct 28, 2019 7:47 pm
Sheridan hmmm'd when Nik pointed out the flaw in Kevin possibly being the target.

"What'd you have in mind?"

"Like I said, Bill Bags Cape Florida State Park," he showed the map again before bringing up satellite view in 3D, "It was a bit difficult seeing inside from the street, and while you could try scouting from across the South Basin, there's a bunch of trees in the way. But this little patch of wilderness to the south… They got a nice view of the ocean, and you can get a nice view back in. Main issue is that it'd be a bit of a hike through some Florida greenery, with, erm, all the risks that entails."

Sheridan worked his mouth back and forth as he tried to calculate how useful that idea would actually be now that he looked closer at it.

"Y'know, it never seems that far when it's on a map on this little screen..."

Nik leaned over, looking at the map over the burly soldier's shoulder.

"Hike!," the thief exclaimed as he looked at the park's dense vegetation and water, "Looks more like a mosquito infested swim." The thief's long locks shook in motion with Nik's declining gesture with his head. "You were talking about renting a boat. Can't we just pretend to fish out in the harbor?"
Oct 28, 2019 9:07 pm
Sheridan chuckled, "Or as they called it in Ranger School, 'Tuesday'. I get your point, though."

The soldier clicked his tongue, "Problem with boat rental is that we'll be under a time limit. Unless we really fork over cash, we'll have a really tight window to be able to actually do one thing, let alone two."
Oct 28, 2019 9:47 pm
Nadya wondered out loud "perhaps we should check in w/ the field office, find out what they have on this guy & his hideout. Any intel would be better than going in blind."

"As for convincing him to come with us, he's hiding out for a reason, so he might prove...uncooperative. I could play the part of the poor lost blind lady asking for directions & get close enough to zap him with my cane, or we could get some cheap suits & respirators from a hardware store, make them look to be like we're from some "agency", & claim that there's a biochem hazard in the area & that he needs to come with us."

"Contacting home office is a risk. And does it matter if this guy is Kevin or not? Would that change the plan?"

"I'll go get a rundown of prices for a boat and SCUBA gear rental. I might be able to forge us a captain's license or, as Nadya mentioned earlier, just bribe our way past it."
OOC:

Some quick research shows that the captain's license are handled by the coast guard. That'd probably put it in the ballpark of a federally issued badge (DC 21-30) but looking at the actual license, they seem to be fairly simple items so I would suspect it would be near the lower end of the DC range.

https://i2.wp.com/fishingbooker.com/blog/media/MMCDataPage.png

I suspect my character would have a passing idea what they look like already since I have the Drive focus for Standard Water Vehicles though what they look like can be found on a simple google search so studying one would also be doable.

I have a forgery kit I and I would have a +9 on the check (+8 Falsify with a +1 synergy from Bureaucracy).

Edit: Just adding the roll to convert a Reserve Common Pick into spending cash.

Nik smiled, partly in relief and part in his typical roguish smirk as it he would not be trudging through a swamp, "So ... is it settled then? We'll secure a boat? Do we want to go with Mickey's forgery or see how loud Benji speaks to the boat rental rep?"

He chuckled, running a hand nervously through his thick long hair, "I wonder if the permit office would still have the house plans?"
OOC:
Quick post to nudge us along, or in the least hoping not to stall. Even dropped a 'maybe' helpful discussion point just to keep your creative juices flowing -- plus it kind of fits Nik's background.

All - Sounds like you all are in agreement ... at least as far as renting a boat and doing some recon.

I'll go ahead and agree with Bill and that the captain's license will require a DC 21 to replicate. To negate some of the penalties I would agree that Stephen can study for 3 hours to get 'strong knowledge'. Which means the forgery could potentially take 12 hours to produce.

Timing - I'm going to say that the team rode around with the thug for an hour so we'll say the 'clock' started at 11:00AM and the Low Profile Infil approach takes 2 days per conflict round so I'm going to say that is (2) 24 hour periods. So there is time for Stephen to forge the license and the rest of the team can continue whatever prep they want to. You could recon the next day and implement the plan that evening/night (or even early morning if you wanted too).

Point at Nadya, "Blind lady and helper go in, blind lady and 'helper'..." air quotes with fingers, "...comes out, man suddenly disappears, maybe goes for a dive in the bay, or goes out on his yacht... Like you said, he might be uncooperative, but you two are probably better at convincing people to do things."

A look at Nadya, "Usually. And if you go in and decide that's a no go, you could always leave, and you'll have gotten some good eyes on the locale."

"Something like that - he's a hacker, not a hardened thug, he probably would not mind a visit from a hot devuska." She said with a wink.

"What's the extraction plan once I get him out - cooperatively or otherwise?"

Sheridan sighed, "That's the rub right there. Got 99 ways to get in, but the problem's getting out. Gonna have to decide if we want to split Nick and me with boat and car, or focus on just one."

"In order to kill him without arousing suspicion from the lack of a body, I think we need to go with the boat. I'll get started on forging the license and secure us a line for that."
OOC:

I rolled in Discord for converting a reserve common item into cash and I got a 21 for $525. That should give us enough to rent a boat for our purposes.

I am going to get started on the forged captain's license. I have the Forgery Kit I and I have a +9 with the synergy. Since it is a secret check, I did not make the roll here.

I do want to make a Knowledge check to see if Stephen is already familiar with the licenses to be forged. I may be able to shave off 3 hours if I can roll well enough. My Knowledge bonus is usually plus 5 but Stephen does have "Yachting" as an interest which should be good for an additional +1.

Nope, DC is 21-30 so the 19 isn't going to cut it.

As Sheridan and Nadya continued to work the problem of getting inside the house and then back out with their target, Mykola maintained that getting the boat seemed to be the best idea ... as far as conducting their recon and potential means of escape were concerned ... and confirmed he would begin preparing a Captain's license.

Nik stepped towards Mickey, indicating his support for the boat idea as well. His mouth drew taut, nose scrunching in doubt as Nadya mentioned that perhaps the target may enjoy a bit of 'lady' time, "It's been my experience with those that have fallen out of favor with their organizations that paranoia runs high and any uninvited or unknown visitors are quickly turned away." He shrugged before adding, "As for getting eyes on ... as I mentioned a moment ago. The City may still have the building plans on file. May at least give you a layout ... and we can see if any subsequent renovations have been made. Like security upgrades, safe rooms, escape tunnels or whatever."
OOC:
It seems settled at least that Mykola will begin crafting a captain's license.

Thundermark and RusVal - You can continue to brainstorm in the meantime or indicate what other preparation or activities you might do. It could take as much as a day (24 hours) for Mykola to finish the forgery (2x the check result as he did not make his Knowledge check. If you don't have any other activities you want to take care of we can jump forward in time and begin at the boat rental.

Sheridan smirked at Nik.

"Y'know, for a dashing rogue, you're being an awful killjoy right now. Didn't even get to the pizza idea yet."

Turning, he started walking towards their vehicle.

"Alright, let's go do our homework. Like a bunch of neeeerds," he said, winking and smiling as he drew out the eeeeee's.
Nov 6, 2019 9:29 pm
"I guess we can go pick up those plans.", said Nadya w/ a shrug.

Key Biscayne Planning Department - McIntyre Street, Key Biscayne

A course of action decided upon, the rest of the team followed 'Sheridan' to the vehicle. A quick search on the phone revealed that Key Biscayne had their own plan review department and while 'Mykola' was anxious to get started on the forged Captain's License, it seem to make the most sense to stop by while they were close.

Already poring over his phone, researching what he could find on marine law and captain's licenses, Mykola stated he would stay in the vehicle. Nik with a shrug, indicated he would as well, mentioning that they should be able to view the plans in the office no problem but if they wanted to make a copy that it would require a signed release from the homeowner ... same if they wanted to know if there had been any improvements made to the property.
OOC:
All - I work in the construction business so I know what is typical but I'll admit I cannot be certain this is how Key Biscayne, FL operates but most municipalities will allow most anyone to view plans they have on file while in the office. If you want a copy given to you, you will need a signed release form (which all municipalities seem to have their own form but the common denominator is that they need to be notarized). To seem more friendly and less intimidating, I am assuming that just Sheridan and Nayda will be going in (and the dog to keep the working animal facade up)?

If you want to view the plans in the office there will be no roll required. You can roleplay whatever pitch you want to view the plans.

If you want a copy of the plans or find out if there have been any alterations/renovations made that will require a bribe or forged release form (or some other way?).
Nov 10, 2019 12:42 am
Nadya turned to Sheridan: "crazy idea, but for this part of the plan, have we considered going as ourselves? Just flash our FBI badges at city hall & request the information the ol' fashioned way? I don't see any reason they wouldn't cooperate."

Mykola riased an eyebrow and gave Nadya a quizzical look. "Please tell me you aren't carrying your FBI badge on you right now."

Assuming she does not have her FBI badge on her, Mykola continued, "Getting into and out of character is one of the more dangerous things to do while working undercover. It's a good bet we are under surveillance by this mafia. If we want to go that route, we can drop you off at public transportation and keep an eye out for anyone that may try to follow you and pick you up again at some other prearranged location."

"Please tell me you aren't carrying your FBI badge on you right now."

"Nah, I was there when we both handed 'em in," Sheridan pointed out.

"Getting into and out of character is one of the more dangerous things to do while working undercover. It's a good bet we are under surveillance by this mafia. If we want to go that route, we can drop you off at public transportation and keep an eye out for anyone that may try to follow you and pick you up again at some other prearranged location."

Sheridan shook his head, "The thought had crossed my mind, too, but it's kinda out of the blue, and would be too eyebrow-raising a flag if agents just happened to show up looking for plans to a house that happened to be hit the next day. At least if we went as this we'd only be defending it as a coincidence from any police that might try to come after us."

The soldier sighed, tapping the steering wheel as he pondered something.

"Alright, I'm gonna have to tell you something I didn't mention before. Back when I was volunteering with those schools over in Afghanistan, I was actually one of the ones actively building them, not that I was that good at it at the time. But I did get some pointers from the experience, which led me to getting some... unofficial engineering training afterwards."

He pointed at the building, "And we are going to be playing out just why I didn't mention this before now. Namely, my 'boss' is going to want to do some expensive 'looking' renovations, and is going to make me dig through plans for the higher-priced houses to see if I can recreate them myself on a shoestring budget. Never mind the fact she's blind and won't see the final product, she's going to be very insistent.

"Trust me, the pain you will hear in my voice will be quite genuine."

"Of course I left it back at the office - what?", said Nadya. "But yeah, on second thought, I don't think we'll have to lean on them w/ our badges just to look at publicly-available blueprints that city hall has on file."

Key Biscayne Planning Department - McIntyre Street, Key Biscayne

The planning department for the Village of Key Biscayne was as elegant in architecture and decor as the surrounding homes and neighborhoods it was serving. Nayda, her 'service' vision assistance dog and seemingly aide/bodyguard Sheridan in tow, entered the simple yet very 'Miami' lobby where a very pleasant woman sat behind a desk, a smile on her face and very bubbly tone as she asked the pair how she could be of assistance ...
OOC:
RusVal/Thundermark - As anyone can view plans that are on file as long as they remain in the office I am not going to require a roll unless you completely say something off putting or unbelievable. Keep in mind that if you are unsure of what you can/cannot ask for you always have the option of making a Knowledge check to see what your character may know on the subject that perhaps you as the player may not. I am around this weekend (for once) so I will be able to answer questions or post a reply if you post.

The bubbly middle-aged woman, offered a smile as she reached into a drawer of her very modern desk and took out a tablet and clipboard with sign out sheet and made to hand it to Nadya, blushing slightly as he gaze touched on Fenris before swinging the tablet towards Sheridan. "If you would sign on the line. I'll call up the drawings we have on file for 400 S. Mashta Drive which will be accessed with the tablet. You are free to view as long as you like but the tablet must remain here.. Her hand swept towards a number of tables, lounge chairs, and e-bar tops as in offer.

"Sheridan, if you'd do the honors..."
Nov 18, 2019 8:34 pm
"Thank you kindly, ma'am," Sheridan nodded to the clerk as he took the pen, signing 'Bill Sheridan' in not too bad cursive, before taking the tablet.
OOC:
Just a small note, Dozer usually signs 'William' as himself, but as Sheridan he signs 'Bill'. Helps obscure the handwriting.

The office administrator quickly and efficiently pecked away at her keyboard, taking the clipboard from Sheridan as she did with a enthusiastic smile and telling the pair they were all set.

The tablet was fairly standard, equipped with a pdf viewer and not much else, with the house plans already keyed up. A quick survey of the tablet would also reveal that the browser had a few helpful links bookmarked, including the searchable online database of approved permits.
OOC:
As stated above ... the table may not leave the building. But you can certainly take pics of the screen on either of your phones.
Nov 20, 2019 4:10 am
Man, Sheridan thought to himself as he guided Nadya over to the 'designated browsing area', I'm feeling a little dirty doing something like this. Maybe it's because if someone did this to a movie I'd have to hunt them down?

As he sat down, he was a little surprised to see his 'boss' head back over to the clerk, before fighting rolling his eyes as she started flirting.

Phone out. Set up pic out of sight. Mute sound. Click click. Tap tap the links to the permits. Click click.

Hmmm, well isn't that interesting.

Phone back in pocket.

Tapping tablet back to the plans, he made a showing of looking over them thoughtfully, before getting back up and walking over.

"Oof," he said to Nadya, clicking his teeth as he leaned on the desk, "Well, ma'am, right off I can tell ya that on our budget, we could probably re-create... a small corner of the roof. Like, maybe make a small hut sized roof. Maybe a slightly larger hut if I work by myself, and get cheap wood off the warped pile in Home Depot. Maybe put it on the side where costumers can see it, but not allow anyone into the room that's holding it up..."

With a little bit of acting on the part of Sheridan and flirting by Nadya, they left the permitting office with snapshots of the floor plans and the work done since. All that was left was to give Mykola the time to craft a believable Captain's License and rent a boat for recon, or for use in the extraction ... probably both.

It's amazing what one can find on the internet, especially when it comes to government issued forms and requirements, so when Mykola sat down to begin the process of forging the license he felt confident in his abilities and what was required to produce the document. While his confidence was high, Mykola still took care, ensuring that all the details were just right, thus meant he was working well into the night with his head finally hitting the pillow between 1 and 2 AM ...
OOC:
RusVal/Thundermark - Anything you want to accomplish that afternoon just post. Otherwise we can begin in the morning with the captain's license in hand.

All - Part of intentions for starting the game off in Miami and keeping events locally was to A) slowly introduce the World on Fire setting and B) to let you flesh out your characters in game with a single location to pull from. This would be one of those time where I'd look for you to pick a place to rent a boat -- Google is your friend. So if Nadya and Sheridan do not have anything they want to try and accomplish in the afternoon while Mykola is forging the license you can all move yourselves to the boat rental place.

Driving away from Key Biscayne Planning Department, plans in hand...

"Yeah, we got an extra complication," Sheridan said as he steered them back towards their condo, "Second building permit for 'security upgrades', plus extra ones for mech/elec/plumbing. Can't be 100% certain, but I'm at least 95% sure they got a safe room installed. Gotta keep the lights and water running while you wait out whatever's coming to get you. I'd also place easy money on it being either in or near the bedroom. No doubt our guy's even got a strict movement circuit so's to be within sprinting distance at the first sign of trouble."

Later, at Viscayne Luxury Condos

As Mickey worked away at his forgery, Sheridan went through his post-workout-shower routine of inventory checking, making sure everything was in working order.

Looking over his AUG at the man working away at his Captain's license, the soldier couldn't help but chuckle.

"Y'know, I've had people ask me why, since I took infantry work so seriously, why I didn't join the Marines," he said, closing the bolt on the gun, "And I'd always answer the same way. Didn't want to be a dick-drawing fratboy armed with hand-me-down equipment. But most importantly..."

He put the rifle down and motioned towards the table the multi-man was working.

"Didn't want to have to deal with sailors all the time. Heh. Guess the joke's on me, eh?"

Around 9 PM, Mykola took a break from his work to find the others. "I have a workable template for the license but I need your help for the next part. I'll need to get a suitable picture to use on the license of whichever one of us will be playing the role of boat captain."

Stephen can take the role of boat captain if no one else wants it but if the forgery doesn't work and we need to revert to bribery, I may not be the best candidate for that.

Clearing his throat, he stepped back and gave a semi-serious Navy salute (palm out, as you do) "Cap."

Standing at relaxed attention, Sheridan then scratched his neck, "Got a preference of rental places? I'll admit I haven't really put too much thought into where we should get the boat. Oddly enough I don't have much experience shoppin' for 'em."

"There are a couple sites where boat owners can list their boats for rent. I think we are better off working with them directly. Nadya suggested staying off the books as much as possible."

Turning to Nik, Mykola said, "Now, let's get you properly set up. Come with me a moment, I need to get a decent picture for your license and I'll need to know how to spell your name. I can also give you some basic nautical terms that may help you get by."

Nodding, Nik stood from the chair he had been sitting in while mindlessly watching one of the news channels, and made to follow the 'arms dealer' for pictures and a crash course on boating. The continued consensus seemed to be to work with a private boat owner, rather than a larger firm, however he paused at Nadya's question on who might know a 'cash only' boat captain who'd be willing to rent their boat with no questions asked.

"Oddly I never had much use for boats," he shrugged apologetically, "Best I could do is get a boat through customs."
OOC:
Nik doesn't have Streetwise as a skill, though his competence isn't terrible if you want to go that route.

Though you do have a forge license so even if a boat owner records the information he wouldn't have much to go on other than a picture of Nik and his name (which already is in the criminal database so there's nothing lost there).

Nik shrugged in response to the facts presented by Mykola, seemingly unconcerned that he was conducting this mission as his self. Now with a completed Captain License in hand for a one Nikolai Sikorsky, the consensus seemed to be to attempt to work with a boat owner direct and use the license only if they had too ... instead hoping the owner could be tempted to look the other way with a bit of encouragement from Benjamin Franklin.
OOC:
All: Add whatever else you want to this discussion then work out together who wants to post for reaching out to the boat owner direct. He/she will respond to your message and agree to a time of your choosing and that will be my next post (hopefully tomorrow) where you will be directly interacting with the owner.

Grove Isle Marina - Miami, FL

After placing several calls, texts, and/or emails, they were fortunate enough to find a boat owner that would agree to meet them first thing in the morning at the boat slip he rented at the Grove Isle Marina. Looking at Google Maps, the marina in question also provided the added benefit of being more or less across the bay from Key Biscayne.

The owner, a slightly overweight and tanned man in his mid to late forties, was waiting for them at his 16 FT Bayliner -- a cooler and fishing gear beside his sandaled feet. It was a Saturday and a wonder that they were able to find an available boat, thus it seemed if a deal wasn't to be done the owner was going to make use of his investment otherwise.

His eyes widened at the sight of them, a smile accompanied the extended hand as he moved to greet them and introduced his self as 'Dan' ... his accent more Southern than Miami and his worn shorts and T-shirt screamed working class.
OOC:
All: In the interest of keeping things moving (as we've done a pretty decent job this week) I figured I could move us along in lieu of waiting for Bill to respond. Everyone seemed to be in agreement with the plan and we've been dealing with this boat rental situation for a number of weeks :-)

If you want to dialogue with the boat owner I should be around this evening and we can handle it via Discord ... or we can do a series of mini posts here on the boards. You may think of something else but you have (3) options:

Impress/Persuasion check - if ya'll somehow want to 'sweet talk' him into giving you the boat with little/to no questions asked.
Streetwise/Bribe check - if you want to bribe him to look the other way and rent you the boat.
Falsify/Forgery check - if you want to legit rent the boat and see how the Captain's License stands up to scrutiny.

You may cooperatively make these checks if you see an advantage.

South Basin - Key Biscayne, FL

The forged captain's license did it's job, the lack of insurance information however was a brief point of contention before Benjamin Franklin convinced the, clearly hard working and blue collar gentlemen, that any damages suffered would be covered. Another $100 convinced the man to, at least temporarily, part with his fishing gear as nobody thought to bring any along and shortly thereafter they had crossed Biscayne Bay and was 'fishing' off of Bill Baggs State Park. They had taken position roughly a hundred yards from the target house, Nik and Nadya making a show of fishing while Bill and Mykola subtly scoped the mansion with there binoculars.

Their quarry was clearly not taking any chances with his safety, hiring what appeared to be uniformed private security with two taking positions at the dock next to what it didn't take a genius to know was an expensive yacht. Two more were patrolling the green space between the house and water, both with dogs on leashes, and a third man patrolling the pool deck -- they could probably assume another was stationed at the front, having seen him on their tour around the cul-de-sac with their Italian host the morning before. Occasionally they would catch glimpses of shadows, shifts in the glare from the french doors around the pool, that probably meant more might be inside.
OOC:

Mykola scanned over the guards looking for any identifying marks that might indicate which security firm the target might have hired and making notes of their style and uniform in case he had to impersonate them in the future. He also made a point of checking for any electrical devices, primarily lighting fixtures and security cameras, that would have to be navigated on their approach.

Scanning the mansion's grand exterior Mykola could not discern any obviously visible cameras, though there seemed to be an abundance of security lighting on motion sensors and at a hundred yards specific details on the security guards uniforms was hard to make out. Fortunately their drive by earlier had afforded a more closer look and he recalled easily the details ... specifically recalling that he had thought it good advertising that the firm 'Off Duty Officers' with their badges, similar to a police shield in appearance.

The walking paths, dock, and seawall also appeared to have lighting as well ... though more decorative in nature. Though the crime boss was holed up inside and clearly concerned for his safety the security features of the house seemed to be basic and no more than probably any of the other houses in the neighborhood. Most likely the owner believed, at least prior to his fall from grace, that his reputation was security enough.

Sheridan rubbed his face as Mykola took a turn looking through the binoculars, before taking another sip of his coffee. He'd mostly been quiet today, mainly because he was still somewhat recovering from the nightmare the night before. And it was that stupid house on the bay that was the cause. Sighing, he listened to what Mickey had observed.

"Hmm," he grunted, "Doubt he sunk all that extra money on permits for motion lights and reliance on his reputation. Yeah, if it's basic looking, it's because all it needs to do is slow someone down. Unless there's a secret barracks with extra personnel, I'm willing to up the probability of a safe room."

He gave a look again at the house.

"Yeah, they seem to be focused at the points of entry, doesn't seem to be much defense in depth."

Sitting back down, he closed his eyes, and tried his best to visualize the house as a whole, maybe use what knowledge of 'how to build 101' to figure out good places to put a safe room.

No one would accuse Bill 'Dozer' Barnum, AKA Bill Sheridan, of being a contractor but all that time spent in the Middle East building schools for undereducated and under appreciated girls did not go to waste. Sipping coffee, while still managing to make a show of fishing, the veterens eyes subtly shifted between the house plans on his phone and the structure across the bay. He was by no means a professional engineer but he had learned how to read a 'blueprint' and the only logical place in his mind for a safe room was in the middle of the house, off the kitchen if it were located on the ground floor or above the bearing points in the kitchen on the upper floor in the closet of the master bedroom.
OOC:

Feb 6, 2020 5:49 pm
Sheridan's lips fluttered as he blew out a breath.

"Keep trying to come up with something clever, but that safe room keeps tripping me up," he said, "If we had, like, a month prep we might be able to come up with something, but right now we're probably better off keeping things simple."

A look at the map again.

"Get past the outer layer, punch through as fast as we can, grab the guy, get on the yacht, drive away."

A tilt of the head, "And we might have an opening. The neighbors don't seem to have nearly as much security. Sneak in that way, climb over the wall," a grit of the teeth, "Hope there isn't a surprise in the vegetation, bee-line it to the house."

"The yacht could be a problem unless we can find keys for it. I know my father used to keep a spare set of keys hidden on the boat. He didn't want to miss a day on the water just because he forgot his key at home. But we'd still need to find it. In any event, once we are clear of the docks, I'd want to ditch the yacht, maybe rendezvous with Nadya in this thing and transfer the target over before taking them to a safe house."

Mykola sighed before continuing, "It's not my favorite plan but I don't see any alternatives. Come, let's go see if I can get suitable disguises for everyone."

Viscayne Luxury Condos - Miami, FL

Concluding their 'fishing trip' around lunch time, a clear(er) picture of what they were up against, the team parked their rented boat back at the marina with the understanding they would be back again later ... they had been told night fishing was better. It took little time to find the 'functional' navy cargo pants and tactical sweaters similar to what the security guards were wearing and a quick search of the internet found the design of the badge, mimicked with fabric paints. Hopefully they would stand up to scrutiny in the dark or at least long enough for them to get the drop.

From what they could see from the water and a slow drive by on the road, the neighbors house was much like the rest of those in the neighborhood. That is large with well manicured and maintained yards. There did not appear to be any preparations for a gathering, at least no caterers had been spotted nor frantic yard maintenance, and they had seen the lady of the house go in and out of the property in her obnoxiously pink Porsche about her daily Saturday routine - which seemed to consist of the gym, coffee, and later that afternoon shopping. The husband returned early afternoon, clearly a workaholic by the business suit ... on a Saturday.

Whether Mykola might know the habits of Miami's wealthy or not, Stephen certainly did. He could probably guess the couple would go to dinner at an overpriced, reservation only restaurant, perhaps hit a Miami night spot if either one wished to be seen, and would return home before midnight ... and depending on the vintage perhaps a bit of 'desert' before turning in.
OOC:
Feel free to continue any conversation or dialogue you want. It seemed clear the plan was to recon the neighboring property and get the disguise ... anything else you would like to do would easily be able to be done as you had the entire afternoon to work with.

If you look at Google Maps and the street view, the neighboring fence isn't even that tall (perhaps 6 feet by my guess) with landscaping along the wall on both sides (the neighbor property and your targets property). You can also assume that there will be your standard motion sensor lights (you are free to plan for them but I'm going to say that they will not take notice of them ... I have them on my house and the cat, the wind, everything triggers them so much I hardly notice when they come one). The target house, depending on if they are noticed coming on or not will probably be check on.

Any other questions shoot.

The agents gathered around a table, a cobbled together map of the target area spread across it.

"So me, Bill, and Nik move in after dark, say 9 o'clockish. We move to the fence here, make our way over, cross the yard and into the target house. If we are spotted, we pass ourselves off as security and try to neutralize the threats silently. Once inside, we try to find our target, explain the situation and hope to convince him to come with us, preferably willingly. We then make our way to the yacht docked outside to make our escape. From our earlier recon, it appeared security teams did not have any other watercraft at their disposal so once we are at sea we should be able to rendezvous with Nadya, ditch the yacht and make our back here."

Mykola looked at his companions, his expression showing just what he thought of their chances of pulling this off, but they didn't have many other options. "Unless someone has some better ideas?"

Mykola laid out a sensible plan, Nik and Nadya meeting the 'international arms dealer's' gaze, their faces betraying they had similar thoughts on their chances. Nadya shrugged, the sigh that followed perhaps disappointment that she would not be in on the immediate action. Though someone would need to pilot the rented boat and Fenris would have been more of a hindrance than help.

"What are we going to do with our guest once we bring him back here?" Nik asked, "Do we trust placing him in custody? Our covers will be blown real quick if it's discovered he's in WitSec."

I rather liked the 'Undisclosed Safe House' description so I left it :-) Though for informational purposes it's a 1 bedroom in Coconut Grove. Think Michael Westin's Mom's house from Burn Notice (and in the same area).

"Oh dangit," Sheridan said, sitting up at his makeshift bench, weapon fabrication tools strewn about. On the bench was various parts bought from various hardware stores. What those parts weren't was a functional fixed suppressor for his rifle.

"Don't panic, I can fix this," he raised his hands, "Just need to... take this back apart..."

He lifted his head, "Oh, um, our hopeful guest," he shrugged, "Don't have to say we're law enforcement, just that it's in our interest to keep him alive for now. At the very least, faking his death is probably safer, considering we just broke into his place and took him.

"Which'll be easier if I can get this thing made by then..."

The slightest of nods was Nik's only indication that he accepted the veteran's response, taking a bite from an apple as he looked on with an appraising eye over Sheridan's work as he met his stare. It was then, that Bill noticed under the light of his makeshift bench that the somewhat fashionable and rougish coat the thief never seemed to be without wasn't simply black but a pattern ... that probably worked to an advantage at night. Catching his eyes on his coat, Nik smirked, winking as he took another bite of the apple and walked over to the table where Mykola was still pouring over the plans.

"I noticed on our fishing excursion this morning that there was a vacant lot down the street from the neighbors house," he said to Mykola while speaking loud enough for everyone's benefit, "Nayda could drop us off with minimal suspicion and we could walk in from there. She should still have plenty of time to return to the boat and meet us out on the Bay." His eyes met Mykola's, his expression saying if we make it out to the Bay.

Nadya moved to the table as well, grunting her agreement as she laid her cane and pepper spray on the paper covered surface. "These should help ... tasers on each," she explained as she demonstrated both.

Grinning Nik picked up the can, with his long hair and long coat looking more like he belonged on the streets of New Orleans than Miami and solicited a comment from Nadya saying as much.

Mashta Island - Key Biscayne, FL

Subtly Nadya pulled over and let the three man team that would take the out of favor crime boss from his home before pulling away, swiftly driving away to get the boat where she hoped to meet up with them later with some less than optimistic remarks in Russian on their chances that got an amused snort from Nik as the car doors were closing.

The street was dark, the only lights coming from the houses lining either side, as the made their way towards the neighboring house. Small glowing lights lined the driveway, the light above the front door and a few select inside indicating that the owners were probably out and just beyond the double entrance they could see the driveway, it's gate closed though a security guard clearly visible stationed at the front door.

Pointing towards the gable of the garage Nik whispers "There's a motion sensor on the light."
OOC:
If you look at Google maps it appears that the neighboring house has two entrances and a circle drive, with the garage closer to the road than the front door. The garage is also in front of the first entrance you come too.

If you elect to walk through the first entrance (or hop the fence prior to the first entrane) you would need to make an opposed Acrobatics (Dex) check against the security light. The security light is standard that pretty much everyone has on their house so nothing high tech or fancy.

If you elect to enter via the second entrance you will be within line of sight of the guard at the front door. Though he is at a disadvantage with distance and dark. Opposed Sneak/Hide vs Notice/Awareness
Feb 20, 2020 2:48 am
Having spent most of the trip in embarrassed silence, having completely failing to finish making a suppressor for his rifle (and almost busting one of his tools in the meantime), Sheridan finally smirked at Nadya's comment about their chances as he tugged at the dorky tacti-neck he was wearing.

"Look on the bright side," he said as he hefted the bag carrying his armor and AUG, holding his NVGs in his off hand, "Worst that can happen is that you guys die and I get in trouble for it."

He looked around at the glances.

"Well if I die, I won't care about anything anymore," he wiggled his head in a matter-of-fact-way, "Duh."

Sheridan looked through the NVGs as they walked up to their entry, before putting them away as Nik pointed.

"There's a motion sensor on the light."

"Well, good as Mickey is, I can't see him bluffing a light to go back off. I say we risk the guard."

420 S. Mashta Drive, Mashta Island - Key Biscayne, Fl

Cautiously and staying towards the well manicured shoulder of S. Mashta Drive the trio entered the neighboring yard to the target house, their view of the seemingly unaware security guard stationed at the front door soon quickly obscured by vegetation and eventually the mansion. The fence surrounding the lot seemed more for aesthetics than security, being constructed of decorative metal and barely waist high. Typical of the rich and famous, or at least the rich enough to own the size of homes of Mashta Island, privacy was valued, meaning heavy landscaping bordered both sides of the black steel fence. Decorative lights on either side of the three garage doors cast soft pools of light upon the decorative stamped concrete driveway glimpsed through the vegetation. The garage blocked their view of the security guard stationed at the front door while landscaping obscured their view of the guards patrolling the green space between the back of the house and the water, the door to the garage according to the plans a short thirty feet away. Perhaps not as practiced at sneaking around as Nik, they seemed to be in the clear thus far ... now just get over the fence as quickly and quietly as possible.
OOC:
As all of Nik, Mykola, and Sheridan need to be successful at sneaking I think a Team Check works better in this case. As Mykola is the lowest bonus at this point I only need a roll for him.

Perhaps finding comfort in Nik's experience or their meticulous planning, the burly FBI agent and corporate sneak carefully climbed the short decorative fence dividing the properties ever wary of the patrolling guards. The wide openness of the driveway, with its warm pools of light from the ornamental exterior lights afforded a few nervy moments as they cautiously crept across the driveway to the side door of the mansion's expansive garage. Standing under the soft light of the wall sconce beside the door did they realize that the had somehow avoided triggering a security light above the garage. Nik shrugged at their alarmed looks, a wry smirk tugging the corners of his mouth as he began to inspect the door.

With a wink of the eye, the roguish thief reached into the inner pocket of his jacket and pulled out his lockpicks and made short work of the doors simple tumbler lock. Smirking he opened the doors, sweeping his arms towards the dark interior of the garage in an after you motion only to have the smile fade and his arms widen in alarm at the telltale ding a security system makes when a door is opened, his eyes drifting to the magnetic contact plate at the top of the door ...
OOC:
Stephen/Mykola is apparently better at sneaking around then he gives himself credit for. The team has made it to the garage door and more or less inside. To be clear ... the alarm is NOT ACTIVELY GOING OFF at this time. Though if you have any familiarity with a home security system it will chime when a door is opened.

The garage is dark, the only light spilling in from the exterior light (which is a wall sconce beside the door).

Quickly the trio entered the dark interior of the expansive garage, the only light coming from the exterior through the half window of the garage door Nik was closing. The garage was neat and organized, the three luxury vehicles dominating the space, the floors swept and open. No sooner had the door closed when the door to the homes interior opened, light suddenly filling the space with a flick of a switch.

A large and confused dark skinned man stood in doorway, his eyes taking in the trio noting the uniforms. "What are you doing in here," he bellowed in a thick Haitian accent, "You are supposed to stay outside."

The burly Haitian's eyes swept the well lit interior of the spacious and neatly organized garage. The three of them could see as well as the thug that the room offered little in the way of hiding. "No," he said clearly not buying the story as his hands made a sweeping motion towards the garage side door indicating they should move, "I have things handled from here." The look on his face making it clear he expected them to proceed him to the door.

The man is clearly wary of the team but didn't beat your Bluff by much so didn't necessary not believe the story. Basically seems that he's doing the job ... he is inside and rent-a-cops are outside.

Mykola raised his hands in resignation. "Hey, so long as you don't try to blame us later you can let anyone you want inside." Motioning for the other two to leave, Mykola followed them back out of the garage.
OOC:
As Mykola steps out of the garage, he's going to swing the door shut behind him but leave it slightly ajar so it looks shut at a glance but where the door hasn't fully latched and, hopefully, the security plate that chimes won't go off if we open it again.
Feb 25, 2020 7:55 am
Stay cool, stay cool. I'm the panic button, let the skills guys do their job, don't start blasting unless absolutely necessary.

Cleaning his ear as he looked around with a huh expression, Sheridan shrugged after Mykola spoke, and about-faced, walking back outside.
OOC:
Once outside, if the other guards haven't freaked out yet, Dozer's going to look around for alternate routes into the house, possibly requiring the hoisting of Nik somewhere.
Feb 25, 2020 2:23 pm
Garage - 400 S. Mashta Drive

The large dark skinned man rolled his eyes, his expression bored at Mykola's comment as he shooed the trio towards the door and followed, clearly with the intention of ensuring the door was secured. Out of their peripherals they could see, and hear, the Haitian un-clip a handheld radio from his belt and brought it to his lips ...

Time seemingly seemed to slow as Nik spun around, Nadya's cane rising accompanied by the snap snap snap of electricity, jabbing towards the unsuspecting thug like a spear. The white lacquered cane plunged into the burly Haitian's chest, his eyes widening in surprise as his muscles spasmed uncontrollably before collapsing in a heap.
OOC:
So ... the dice roller apparently loves Nik *knock on wood*. Anyway, for transparency a Surprise round is a Team check which Nik was able to take the lead on. Which he won despite a high roll from the thug. Nik's Initiative roll was 18 so I took a chance and assumed that Mykola nor Dozer would beat that. You all are welcome to edit if you beat the roll and want to act first. With the Surprise round you get 1 free action or 1 half action or 1 full action. Mykola looked at Nik in astonishment and nodded. "Daamn, Nik!"

Moving quickly, Mykola stepped back into the garage and securely closed the door with everyone inside. "Nik, see if any of these cars are unlocked." He glanced over at Bill to ask about zip ties but they seemed to have similar thoughts on the matter. Pulling out his pocket knife he knelt next to the haitian and cut off one of his sleeves to use as a gag.
OOC:

So as discussed briefly in Discord, we want to gag him, zip tie his hands and stow him in the trunk of one of the vehicles.
Feb 25, 2020 7:58 pm
Sheridan followed Mykola's astonished Daaamn with a thumbs up to the fast thinking thief, before promptly moving over to the thug, pulling out zip-ties he had in his pocket as he did so.

Reaching down he pulled off the guard's radio, before dragging the man out of the doorway into the garage.

Also thinking quickly, he turned to Mickey as the guy was coming to cut of the guard's sleeves.

"Psst," he said quietly, holding up the radio, "How's your Haitian?"
Feb 26, 2020 12:12 am
Garage - 400 S. Mashta Drive

Nik eyed the end of Nadya's cane approvingly, nodding slightly as his gaze settled to the crumpled man at his feet. Shrugging, with the rougish smirk that was commonplace with the thief, he bobbed his head in thanks to his companions' backslapping and atta boys and moved to help Sheridan with the unconscious Haitian thug as Mykola moved to close and secure the door.

LIfting the radio from the thugs belt, Bill held it up in question. HIs long haired compatriot shook his head in reply, the cutting motion with his hand indicating he thought it was a bad idea to respond. There didn't seem to be any questioning and alarmed reply with all signs pointing towards Nik having silenced the tough before he could make his report.

Quickly the burly Haitian was secured and shoved into a trunk, Nik looking to the unconscous man's radio and gun, "We should probably take those with us?"

From what they could remember of the plans, as well as their earlier 'fishing' excursion, they knew the garage led into a small mud room off of the kitchen with the kitchen being an open floor plan with an island that led into a sizeable breakfast nook and den. The front foyer could also be accessed from the kitchen ... assuming no one was stationed there they may be able to skip the den and adjacent sitting area that all had floor to ceiling windows that faced the bay.
Feb 27, 2020 1:44 am
Nick didn't even have a chance to finish the sentence before Sheridan had expertly plucked the guard's gun and radio off, handing them off to the group.

"Hmm," he muttered quietly as he looked over to the door the guard had been in, "No one seemed to come when he shouted. Would have had time to get down here when we dragged him away..."

He unzipped his bag, exposing the AUG. He looked at the crew, giving a questioning quirk of the eyebrow as he placed a hand on the gun.
OOC:
And if the GC decides to get clever, if they hear someone coming, he's gonna zip it back up immediately.
Mar 2, 2020 1:34 pm
Garage - 400 S. Mashta Drive

Nik's eyes drifted to Sheridan's hand placed questioning on his AUG, nodding his agreement and meeting the agent's gaze. The consensus then seemed to be that the thief should go ahead and report back, he seemingly more comfortable and 'practiced' at sneaking around and remaining undetected than perhaps the rest of the team.

The long haired sneak carefully made his way up the short stairs and cracked the door, cautiously peering through the gap before turning his head to Sheridan and Mykola and nodded that it was clear, offering a knowing smirk before disappearing through the door.

The minutes seemed to painfully stretch, though the radio remained silent and there did not seem to be any sounds of alarm from inside the house. Just as cautiously as he left, the thief returned, squeezing through the small gap he allowed in the door.

"There are three more men on the first floor, two are watching TV in the den right off the kitchen. The other randomly does a sweep of the floor but returns to the kitchen and also watches the TV. They're all drinking beer so they don't seem too concerned with intruders ... and thus far they haven't noticed that their buddy is missing," Nik said in summary of what he had discovered.

Looking to Bill, Mykola asked "Is there a bathroom nearby? If so, we should turn the light on and close the door in case anyone comes looking for him. And do you think we might be able to set up an ambush for their patroller?"
Mar 4, 2020 8:21 pm
OOC:
Sheridan took his AUG out, nothing else. I figure I can put my armor on later.
Sheridan gave an amused smirk, before turning to Nik.

"Can I set up an ambush?" he thumbed towards Mickey sarcastically, before realization dawned, "Oh wait, you weren't there that time."

Shouldering his bag, and readying his rifle, Sheridan nodded.

"A'ight, eyes and ears, let's ruin someone's exercise."
OOC:
Sheridan's taking lead on a Tactics/Ambush check with Nik and Mykola as helpers. We are going to sneak out, and try to set things up so that Nik and Mykola surprise the roamer away from the other two guards, while in range of the Nik and Mykola's stun attacks. Sheridan's going to try to be close enough to do a five-foot step followed by a Tire action, though preferably he'd like to wait for the other two to make their attacks first.

Garage - 400 S. Mashta Drive

Smirking Nik offered Mykola a confirming nod of his long haired head, "There is a bathroom ... just off the kitchen before the stairs leading upstairs."

Seeing Sheridan shoulder his bag and ready his rifle the thief returned his grin, pulling his own pistol from his back and readying Nadya's, very handy cane, and offering the grizzled agent a confirming nod.

Cautiously the rougish sneak opened the door to the mansion's interior, the warm lighting clashing with the harsh functional light of the garage. Peering through the crack he held up a halting hand, raising a finger as if to say give him a second and after a few agonizing seconds smiled in the mischievous way they had come to know and meeting their eyes and nodded in confirmation. Loudly the thief jiggled the handle and stepped back into the garage, the cane at the ready.

The door opened and Nik lunged, the cane crackling as he attempted to jam it into the tall and skinny Haitians midsection, the cane striking with an exhale of breath, the Haitians long dreads shaking in surprise before collapsing into the Russian rogue's arms...
OOC:
So ... the DR is still loving Nik

Next moves?
Mar 4, 2020 10:32 pm
Sheridan tried his best to think of a joke about dreadlocks, but pulled up a blank as he zip-tied the next guard and helped Nik drag and disarm the guy into another trunk.

"Right, the next two guys are drinking and distracted," he said as they finished their work, "we should take those guys out. Three on two, not bad odds. Normally my vote would be sneak the stairs, but we gotta drag the guy back down, better to clear a path now.

"Remember what we went over about spittin' distance, though," he said, reminding them of what he said before they started:

If we are able to get within' spitting distance of the bedroom should we get caught and are forced to shoot, you two need to bum-rush the HVT, catch them while they are dreary and confused. I'll take up the rear, and clear any hostiles. If you have any trouble grabbing the guy, remember "Hex Grid". I'll come running in.

Nik enthusiastically nodded in agreement to the plan with a dip of his thick, long haired head and reaffirming a final time where the two guards were positioned as Sheridan, who was considerably more practiced in the art of squad tactics, nodded in understanding and motioned his pair of colleagues into position. Weapons ready, Sheridan with his rifle and Mykola and Nik with their tasers, the grizzled veteran slowly opened the door, the muzzle of his rifle make a steady sweep of the brightly lit 'mud room' and seeing no threats cautiously began to move. The roar and song of the crowd on the TV, apparently the Haitians were watching a fairly intense soccer match, drowned out the sounds of their movements as they crept into the kitchen and hastily moved to the left so as to come at the two goons from behind. Off the kitchen was a large foyer, the stairs leading to the second floor dominating their view to the left and a large indoor garden on the right ... that as luck would have it further concealed their movements as they moved through the space and crept up to the back of the L-shaped couch and the bobbing heads of the two Haitian goons.

Fanning out the trio made to strike, Nik meeting Mykola's eyes and nodding as the cane made a sweeping arc over the back of the furnishing. The crackling tip of the cane glanced of the large Haitian's stylish leather coat, the man grunting a coarse French phrase in surprise ...
OOC:
Tactics was successful. Nik's luck has run out thus his first attack did not hit. @whitmore roll your attack and if you beat a 12 go ahead and describe your hit (I'll post the results in my reply post). Mykola will be first in the initiative order after this first surprise round so go ahead and describe your actions for the first round of combat (the thugs will not beat you in the initiative order. @Rusval - I am assuming that Sheridan is delaying to see what happens with Nik and Mykola's attack so you will start in the same initiative order as Nik so post your actions for the start of the full rounds as well as your surprise round action.

As the thief lived up to his name, and nicked his intended victim, Sheridan quickly stepped in with a hook with his off hand, followed by an elbow, followed by a headbutt. These blows were in rapid succession, intended to keep the Haitian off guard.
OOC:
Sheridan's going to do a Tire action (Resolve (con) vs. Resolve (con) to do 1d4+1 subdual damage) against Nik's target for the surprise round. What happens the full rounds is going to depend on how successful Mickey is.

Rolls

Resolve - (1d20+7)

Mykola pressed both e's on the "pepper spray" label simultaneously, causing a pair of electrodes to spring out of the bottom of the pepper spray container. On the signal, Mykola stood up from behind the couch and jabbed it into the shoulder of one of the guards watching TV.
OOC:

Oops, typo where I can't fix it (dice rolls), "stub" gun.

That hit, adding damage roll.

Untrained Attacks incur a -4 to Initiative. If Mykola is still first, he'll jab the same guard if not unconscious, otherwise he'll jab at the other one.

Huh, that one also hit.

Adding the last attack if either guard is still up.

2 more Untrained Attacks is another -8 Initiative, -12 total.

Seuss reminded me I get 1d6 Sneak attack damage for the first attack so adding that.

The second guard barely had time to register the assault on his companion before Mykola deftly reach over the back of the couch and jabbed the crackling prongs of the taser into his shoulder. His body convulsed, the electricity surging through his muscles causing them to spasm as his eyes rolled into the back of his skull and he slumped down further into the soft, plush leather couch.

Beside him the other surprised Haitian batted frantically at Sheridan's barrage, grunting as Mykola's taser again found it's mark, his teeth gritted as he fended off the effects of the stun only to have the buzzing point of Nik's cane plunge into his side. Suddenly losing control of his muscles the guard, who had been in the process of standing to face his attackers, collapsed onto the coffee table and then the floor.

Rubbing his forehead for a second...

Thank genetics for a hard skull.

…Sheridan quickly pulled out his zip ties, and got to work securing the guards.

"Mes excuses, je sais que guardduty est ennuyeux, puis douloureux," he said under his breath, before looking at the 'football' game, "Au moins tu as la télé."

As Bill was securing the bodies, Mykola looked to Nik and asked, "This guy's safe room is probably upstairs. You mind checking that out while we hide the bodies?" Then, shifting his gaze to Bill and motioning to the bound guards, "Bathroom?"

Their quiet whispers echoed in the spacious, marble floored living room. At Mykola's questioned suggestion, Nik shrugged and nodded, drawing his pistol and readying it and the cane as he slowly crept across the impressive foyer. His booted footfalls barely made a sound as he ascended the marbled, glass rail stair case.

Bound with zip ties, the Haitian guards were unceremoniously dumped into the bathroom, the light left on and door closed just as a whispered Shit! came across their tac radios accompanied by a muffled "I said I wasn't to be disturbed!" from somewhere upstairs ...
OOC:
Haitians are bound and stuffed in the downstairs bathroom. As they were mooks and take subtle and lethal damage as the same it is up to the GC to determine if/when they wake up or are even killed. I had figured the guards outside to be more difficult so was trying to keep the inside ones a bit easier (in case you had a difficult time getting in) so since you have bound them all and placed them out of the way I think we can assume they won't be an issue moving forward.

As hopefully is clear ... somehow the HVT beat Nik's opposed Sneak roll.

"Whelp, found 'im," Sheridan whispered, before readying his rifle and stepping as quietly as he could into the bathroom.

He looked at Mickey, "A'ight, you're up," before closing the door behind him.

Mykola started to make his way up the stairs being careful to be as noisy as possible as he called out. *thump* *thump* *thump*

"Mr. Smirnov my apologies for disturbing you but I need to speak with you. We have a problem, sir. It isn't safe for you here right now."
OOC:
I am going to try an Impress / Influence check on him to make his disposition towards me better. The check takes a minute but hopefully with my disguise it'll buy me the time.

If the target is a corporate or government character, I get a +1 synergy on the Impress roll though I don't think he is so I didn't include it in my roll.

If he is at least pausing to listen for a moment, Mykola will add that we have received a tip that was deemed credible that the mob has put a hit out on him. We need to get him off the premises and the safest way is via his yacht. We've made arrangements to rendezvous with another vessel and transport him to a safe house.

Mykola's purposefully loud, heavy footfalls echoed throughout the sparsely decorated and marbled/hardwood foyer, delivering his warning in a direct and professional tone as he entered the spacious master bedroom. Nik was standing worriedly between the master bathroom and the closet, offering the 'arms dealer' an apologetic shake of the head, as an aged corpulent man entered from the bathroom belting a plush bathrobe. Graying hair still dripping the man waddled towards Mykola, concern evident on his face and harried manner. "Isn't safe?" he exclaimed, eyes darting towards the french doors leading to a covered porch, "Here ... in my home? What tip?" Clearly the isolation was weighing on him, the worry so self evident that at least for the moment it hadn't dawned on him to ask where his Haitian security detail was.
OOC:
Alexander has suffered an error on his opposed roll meaning he'll have penalties for any further Resist Influence rolls. If you would like to activate the Critical just let me know ... then he won't be able to make anymore opposed Resist rolls.

Mykola frowned before deciding a version of the truth would be his best bet. "There is a criminal syndicate operating within Miami but we don't yet know who is in charge. We'd been investigating them to find out when we heard your name come up. It seems they have put a hit out on you. We volunteered to do the job because we don't want to see you dead but if we make it look like we did it, it'll help us earn their confidence. We've made arrangements to transport you to a safe house."

Mykola paused for just a moment to let him take that information in before adding, But the choice is yours. We can fake your death and move you some place safe or you can stay here and hope your security does a better job when the actual assassins come for you."
OOC:

I wasn't sure if a second Impress check was required but if you do need another one, feel free to make the roll.

The obese, graying haired man listened to what the intruder into his bedroom had to say, taking a seat on the bed and recovering his senses somewhat as he let out a slow, rattled breath. "Wodka," he blurted when Mykola finished laying out his choices. The fleshy man waddled to a mini bar in the corner of his room and poured a glass, the bottled rattling the edge of the glass from Alexander's shaking hands. Downing the pour in one gulp, he began to prepare another with more steady hands. Finally he turned, resignation evident on his full face as he took in the pair of them.

"So ... I guess her anger will not be quelled," he said, his Russian accent thick. "There was a time when she wouldn't have dared," he added with an amused snort. His eyes shifted towards the double doors leading to the porch, turning wistful as the moved to the rooms interior. "What do you want from me ... if I allow you to 'kill' me?" a touch of sadness in the smile he had as he returned his attention back to Mykola.
OOC:
Since you gave him a choice I figured I'd roll up a Loyalty check and Mykola was successful so he will be onboard with whatever plan you have to 'kill' him and get him to the safe house.

So ... what is the plan to 'kill' him and get him to the safe house?

Feel free to converse with Alexander and ask him whatever. Mykolas successfully shifted his Disposition to Intrigued so there are bonuses for Fondness (and Loyalty) plus he suffered an error on his Resist check so he has penalties to resist any further Resist checks so he may be open to divulging most things about his self and maybe the organization.

"There are 2 others with me right now," Mykola said as he triggered his radio. "Bill, Nik, come on in. He's on board, we need to execute our exit plan."

Mykola addressed the fellow once again. "We have made arrangements to rendezvous with another member of our team at sea. The plan is to 'steal'* your yacht, make the rendezvous, transfer to our boat and drop you off at the safe house. We'll scour your yacht clean of any evidence except for a couple of items we'll plant there. The most immediate concern is getting from here to your yacht."

Mykola turned to Nik and Bill**. "You guys ready?"

"Oh, talking actually worked?" Sheridan answered over the radio, "Huh. Neat."

Carefully, he worked his way out of the bathroom, and up the stairs. Before entering, however, he put the AUG on safety. Zipping open the bag, he stuck the carbine in barrel first, letting the stock poke out, enough to see it was there, but not enough to alarm the guy into thinking he was coming in shooting.

Peaking his head in, he gave a nod to the people inside as Mykola was talking, before stepping in, closing the door behind him.

"Depends," Sheridan answered when Mykola finished, looking at the chubby old man with a quirked eyebrow, "We friendly enough to send the guards around the yacht home? Or we going to have to 'convincingly' shoot our way out? I'm up for either, just need to know whether to get dressed or not."
OOC:
Note Sheridan just barely walked in, so he's not aware how friendly we've gotten with the HVT.

The large Russian calmly sipped his Vodka, his old yet experienced eyes studying Mykola as the 'arms dealer' and would be assassin laid out there well thought out plan having spent the better part of two days in it's execution. Smoothing his graying, and still wet, hair into some semblance of order, a small knowing smile touching his otherwise dour lips, as the gangster surveyed the trio of 'hitmen', his brow rising in amusement at Bill's questioning bravado.

"The security company can be called. The men dismissed," he stated simply, seemingly more relaxed now that he had knocked back a couple of drinks, "But I must ask again ... how much will this charade cost me?"
Mar 26, 2020 10:46 pm
Sheridan nodded at confirmation that the guards could be called away. The nodding stopped with the slightest smirk at the question about price. Silently he walked over to Mykola and whisper conversed with him real quick to double check what Mickey had said about the group.

Really had to let slip that we were 'investigating', huh?

"Well, fortunately for you," Sheridan said, walking up beside the rotund Russian before squat-leaning, facing everybody as he spoke, "the guys paying us wanted the bodycount at an absolute minimum if we could help it, an outlook we agree with for personal reasons."

The soldier made a singular light pat on the shoulder of the greying man, "So consider the ticket itself payed for, though the accommodations might be a lot more humble that you are currently used to."

Straightening his back, he crossed his arms.

"I'll be straight: our backers might want to talk business with you afterward. About what precisely is above my need to know, though my best guess is 'go back to the status quo' won't be the subject."

A wave indicating the crew.

"That said, we've still got to work with the syndicate, and as we are no doubt establishing, their retirement plan sucks. So if, say, someone, with knowledge on how they work, were to give tips on how to get on their good side easier, when those backers do decide to come around... the deals would probably lean more in the helper's favor."

"What's it going to cost? Monetarily, nothing. But any information you have on them would be appreciated."

Mykola shook his head. "As far as calling the security company to remove their guards, it'd be too suspicious. No investigator worth his salt is going to let that detail slip by. Why would you call off your own guards right before you went missing?" Mykola thought for a moment, "Unless . . . I might be able to disguise my voice well enough to make them think it is you. The call will presumably be recorded so a more thorough analysis after the fact might reveal the voice was a fake in which case they are less likely to suspect your cooperation in this matter."

Alexander calmly listened, a small smirk and quirk of a grey brow in curiosity as his appraising, piercing pale blue eyes took in the pair of men as they continued to make their pitch. Taking a sip, the Russian mob boss paused to look at the now empty glass in annoyance before setting the empty cup aside, before replying, "You claim to only want information yet fail to specify what exactly you are looking for me to provide."

He surveyed the three of them through narrowed eyes, clearly trying to decide what the unusual trio were about, "You speak of 'accommodations' and my not being used to them ... I own many homes. Many this size or more. Most she doesn't know about." The alcohol seemingly given the heavyset boss courage, a bit of annoyance now in his tone, "Why tell the security company anything at all? They are private ... hired to protect me and I never provided from what. So what about your investigators? ... they'll know the 'who' was responsible regardless and good luck proving it."

He stood, taking the empty glass back to the bar to refresh, "And if you were hired to 'kill' me ... I would think they'd be more interested in the results than the methods."
Mar 28, 2020 9:38 pm
"Admittedly the one picking us up wanted to be part of asking specifics..."
OOC:
Also whatever information is required for the dramatic scene rolling later isn't currently known. :P

"Results are important but we won't have a body. They'll only have our word and the fact that you are missing to go on and I wouldn't just take our word for it without trying to verify it. But if no one sees us leave there will be fewer leads to follow. You want to call them off and then we can get you out of here?"

The heavyset boss scanned the trio from his position at his sidebar, eyes narrowing in silent contemplation as he thought over what they had proposed. Eventually the graying mob boss let out a resigned sigh, poured himself a fourth healthy sized drink with one final look out over the bay, his lips pouting wistfully. "May I be allowed to change?" he asked, his Russian accent thick after a few 'wodkas', "Or is part of this charade dumping me overboard in nothing but my robe.".

Hearing no objections Alexander waddled towards his closet, Nik pacing ahead of the stout Russian to block him accessing his panic room as the elder man let out an amused snort. Moments later he exited the spacious wardrobe, smartly dressed in a designer suit with a small duffle that they could see had a few spare clothes, toiletries, and such. Eyeing the three of them suspiciously, he slowly plodded to what appeared to be an expensive painting hung over his large dresser, that easily swung aside at his touch to reveal a small safe. Moments later he was stuffing a number of passports, papers, and rolls of cash in the bag.

Seemingly settled, after a few more sips from his now less than healthy glass, Alexander pulled out his phone and after a somewhat lengthy and heated conversation - much of which involved terms and fees - the Russian emphatically pressed the end call button, tore the cover off the back of the phone and dropped the sim card in his now nearly empty glass, and announced that the rent-a-cops would be leaving with in the hour.

"Gee, Mickey," Sheridan gave a knowing smirk after watching the display before him, "I tink dis guy's done dis befer."

Pulling out and slipping on his headset, the vet keyed the pre-planned frequency as he poked his head into the bathroom.

"Wow, these are even better without unconscious Haitians in them," he quipped before leaning on the doorframe.

"Line to Fisher, Line to Fisher, come in Fisher."

He waited for her response before continuing.

"Yea, get changed and take what you need but don't overdo it."

Mykola moved to one of the windows in the room to peek outside while listening in to Dozer's transmission.

Sheridan's headset crackled to life, an amused Fisher followed by a more serious Hard Copy as the grizzled veteran confirmed they were in possession of the HVT and were moving to exfil.

Peering out the window, an amused shake of his head at Bill's use of radio code, Mykola checked the status of the mafioso's rented sentries. The security guards at not left, but were now gathered in a group in apparent conversation, clearly more relaxed as even the dogs were barking and wagging their short stubby tails no longer feeding of their master's wariness. It seemed that the order to break things down and leave had been received. Now that he thought on it, he didn't recall seeing any sort of van or vehicle parked in the drive ... thus they were most likely waiting on transportation.

To the 'arms dealer's' question on the keys to the yacht the stout boss snorted with amusement, "Good question. My crew always handled getting her ready to take out ... but I suppose it is hanging with the keys to the rest of my vehicles, hanging on hooks in the room off the garage."
Apr 20, 2020 3:28 pm
"Well, unless they plan to take the yacht then I'd say we shouldn't rush lookin' for them, risk blowing this too early," Sheridan said as he double-checked to make sure he was gloved as he walked over to the glass with the dead sim card in it, "In the meantime, while we hurry up and wait..."

He gave a little nod to Nick, before shooting a look to Mickey, "I'll keep an eye on the 'VIP', while one of you gentlemen with better taste than me can take a look around, make sure things are set."

He held up the glass, and swirled it around so the card tapped inside, "Maybe do a bit of obscuring? Don't want a CSI tech with debt issues giving the game away.

"The other guy can keep watch on the guards, then go fetch the keys once the coast is clear."

"I can cover up our tracks here but someone should keep an eye on things downstairs. Those guys will probably wake up in the next hour and we don't need them making noise that draws the ones leaving to come investigate. Or worse, one of them decides to run inside and take a quick piss before they go."
OOC:

I do have a pretty good Falsify (+8) so I'll take the time to do a Falsify/Cover Up check to make it harder for investigators to piece together what happened here.

While I do have a Cleaner's Kit I, I don't have it on me, it is on the boat with Nadya. A lot of what is in the kit are fairly common household items so I figure the check would be possible but it is improvised enough to probably still need -4 penalty.

It takes 1 minute to do "an area" and, since we have an hour, I'll cover everything in the house that we've interacted with working backwards, so starting in the master bedroom and bathroom, then the hallway and stairs down, then the first floor locations and ending in the garage.

Since it is a Secret check, I have not made any rolls for this.

At Mykola's mention of the Haitian contingent currently unconscious and bound downstairs the Russian boss snorted dismissively, muttering some rather unflattering comments in Russian regarding their protective abilities or lack thereof, one of his thick graying eyebrows rising in amusement over the 'arms dealer's' concern with the rent-a-cops suspecting something amiss or entering the abode.

"They are not allowed in the house," he drawled in heavily accented Russian - the 'wodka' clearly starting to have an effect, "And this is not some cheap common house like those want to be rich in Coral Gables ... it is well insulated and nothing can be heard from outside."

His heavy, relaxed gaze shifted to Sheridan with a smirk, "I believe my housekeeper keeps the cleaning supplies in the garage. She's a bit OCD so I'm sure you will find what you need and well organized."
OOC:
The rent-a-cops and Haitians will not present any immediate problems ... you can assume the next hour passes without event and take things to the yacht as you see fit.

Great stuff! And I like the caution ... certainly worth some bonus points on the Infiltration roll coming hopefully soon(ish) :-)
Apr 29, 2020 4:53 pm
Some cleaning and prepping later...

"Just sayin', man. This career doesn't pan out, you would make an awesome housemaid," Sheridan said to Mickey as they led the HVT to the back door, the outside now clear of guards.

Noting the long glance out towards the garage, and the Haitian still in the trunk of one of the cars, he leaned in.

"Hey, it'll be all right," he spoke softly, "Don't need to bloody our hands if we're this close to a clean pick."

"Last thing we need is for 'someone' getting pulled over while he has a body in the trunk, and I don't want to temp Lady Luck with a juicy target like that," the soldier had said earlier when the idea to 'dispose' of the Haitian that had spotted them in the garage was voiced, "Stay focused, avoid complexity creep, and let's complete this thing."

Mykola nodded and smiled at Dozer's words. He gave a slight chuckle and said, "Good point. We'll make an agent out of you yet."

As Mykola watched the last of the guards pull away, he turned and gave a nod to the others. "It's time. Let's kill the lights and get to the yacht." Mykola took up the rear of the procession as they filed out of the house, doing a last check to cover their tracks as they headed out to the dock.
OOC:

I know the lights are on a motion detector but, if it is like my house, we also have a separate switch we can use to shut them off. Barring that, there may be a junction box somewhere we can open up to kill power or a main breaker often in or near the garage.

But if that isn't feasible, oh well, we may be lit on the way to the yacht.

Nearly a well spent hour later, a couple of vans pulled up in the mansion's expansive driveway, the rented security personnel laughing and talking loudly, clearly relaxed as the loaded what gear they had brought into the vehicles, the dogs whining and barking enthusiastically, and it was perhaps with a relieved exhale of breath and relaxation of tensed muscles that the three undercover operatives watched the vans pull away.

As Nik and Bill had secured the rest of the house, Mykola under the amused and watchful eye of Alexander Smirnov did what he could to remove any and all trace of their presence so when the heavy, automatic gate clanged shut on the departing security vans they were ready to depart. The heavyset, crime boss's footsteps sounded heavy on the thick, wooden treads of the grand open stair case. The Russian pausing to snort in derision at the muffled sounds coming from the bathroom, whether from a desire to help sell the ruse or more from the effects of the alcohol, yelling at the Haitians through the door and chastising the thugs for his being kidnapped from his own secure home.

The motion activated lights were disabled with a flick of the switch, the only illumination as they made their way to the yacht the soft glow of the landscape lights lining the paved path, appearing as dark silhouettes to anyone who might be observing they boarded the yacht without incident, perhaps the gravity of the situation finally settling in as the obese Russian quietly followed. The biggest hurdle seemed to have been passed, pulling off a convincing death all that remained.

"Clear," Sheridan said as he walked up from below decks, pulling his night vision goggles off before handing them off to Nik, "Let's keep it dark as we pull out, don't want to draw too much attention."

Quickly turning to go through all the procedures in prepping a yacht to leave, the soldier flicked his radio back on.

"Line to Fisher. Waters are clear, Catfish is on the hook. Reelin' 'er in, nice and easy."

Mykola just shook his head at Sheridan's radio chatter. As they prepped the boat for launch Mykola asked, "Try to touch as little as possible. It'll make cleaning easier later.

Mykola went through the pre-launch checklist just as his dad had taught him.

Radio? Check.
Gauges? Check.
Fuel? Check.
Safety equipment? Check.

And it went on but always ended with.

Mykola looked to the others, "If you need to go to the bathroom, now's the time."
OOC:
I have the focus for water vehicles but I don't have any ranks. Unless someone else wants to drive, Mykola was planning to take it out of The Pines Canal, head south around Cape Florida and set out to see on a roughly east by southeast direction.Once we're a few miles out, we'll alter course for the rendezvous.

Sheridan paused as he finished unmooring the yacht, and slowly turned toward Mykola.

"I'm noticing a conflict in those last two orders," he said with a quirk of an eyebrow as he questioningly pointed, "I'm getting the sinking feeling you were only a Louie before 'retiring'?"

A wave of the hand dismissively before turning back, "Unless you're one of those weirdos. In which case, just keep that to yourself."

Turning again briefly, but with a quirky grin on his face, Sheridan just shook his head before returning to his task.

"I'll, uh, explain when you're older," he said over his shoulder.

With quick efficiency, bred into him by years of war, Sheridan disappeared below decks only to reappear moments later giving the all clear and radioed Nadya that they would be departing soon.

"Hard Copy," came their partner's amused reply as they prepped the for launch. Seeing Mykola step to the wheel, Nik handed the NVGs that Bill had placed in his hands to the 'arms dealer' with a shrug, his smirk saying though he might be the face on the license it was clear Mykola had the experience.

As are the whims of the rich, the yacht was fully stocked - even the beds made with towels stacked neatly atop the fluffy comforters - which meant Alexander made his way to the bar, proceeding to make his self a drink as his three kidnappers frantically moved about making their preparations to depart. To the raised eyebrow from Nik the corpulent Russian gruffly barked, "What? Is this not my boat? I can certainly have a drink if I want."

Finishing his checklist, that ended with what Mykola thought was sound advice, and a few witty retorts from Sheridan later, the expensive yacht's powerful engines drummed to life, rumbling deeply as the boat eased forward. Fortunately it was not unusual for night fishing so they joined a few boats heading out of the canal, the traffic thinning as they made their way around the point for open water ... and the final part of their plan.

Sheridan shrugged at the Russian barking about a drink.

"Can sell it as being gentlemanly about this whole thing," he noted to Nik, "make sure he's good and drunk before 'plopping him in the drink'."

The soldier leaned in closer to the thief.

"Just make sure he doesn't accidentally slip and crack his skull when we change boats," he said low, "It'd be just like the universe to play a joke on us like that."

Clapping his hands, Sheridan turned to Mykola.

"A'ight, you've been on a roll, Lefty. Let's see what you got for this last bit."

Mykola chucked, "Maybe the universe would be doing us a favor at that point."

Once they were away from the dock, Mykola turned on the running lights normally and joined the flow of traffic. Once they were out of the harbor and at sea, Mykola asked, "Hey, Cap'n? Nik? You want to take the wheel for a while? Just keep it straight and watch out for other vessels."

Rounding the point of Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park Nik reluctantly and nervously took the wheel, finding some comfort in the fact that they were in open water and there was very little boat traffic, relaxing somewhat as their 'host' had began blaring Russian opera and had joined the Russian born thief on the vessels expansive bridge to provide a bit of 'backseat driving'.

Sheridan was not stranger to reading maps, nor Mykola at nautical charts, and it was very little time later - aided perhaps by the luxury yacht's numerous running lights and interior and exterior deck lighting - that Nadya was pulling the significantly smaller fishing boat alongside, and amused expression on her face at the sight of their rowdy host who at seeing the young woman was full of flirty compliments and promises of gifts and nights of passion she would not forget.

Watching the Russian light up upon seeing Nadya, Sheridan could not help but start chuckling as the drunken flowery words poured out of the HVT as quickly as the alcohol had gone in.

"Sorry, 'boss'," Sheridan said, leaning slightly over the railing (being careful not to touch anything), "Our guest decided to down a few bottles of 'courage' on the way out. You'll be happy to know, though, aside from some tied-up Haitians with headaches, zero casualties on all sides. Turns out someone..."

A point at Nik.

Grabbing the mooring lines, Nik and Mykola got ready and called to Bill. "We're secured, have her bring it around."

Once Nadya had the boat lined up, Mykola threw the lines to her and the team worked to secure the two boats together. Looking to Nik, Mykola aksed, "Would you please help get our guest transferred to the other boat?"

Mykola went over the boat with a fine tooth comb, cleaning up any trace of their presence. Addressing Bill while cleaning, Mykola laid out his plan. "The killers had our friend tied up in the hold." Mykola removed the comforter from the bed, threw it half on the floor, put his boot on it and began pulling and tearing small parts of the fabric. "They had him bound up in this, but when they came to get him, he started struggling." Using the back of his gloved hand, Mykola knocked one of the glasses and bottle of liquor off the counter. The glass shatter and the bottle landed with a loud *thunk* and rolled away.

Taking the comforter with him, he started up the stairs. "Fearing for his life, our friend started getting frantic." Bringing his leg, Mykola struck the railing with his foot, leaving a hairline crack. Then, throwing his elbow out to the other side, he left a small indentation in the wall of the stairwell.

"Once they made it up on deck, they dropped him. His feet being encases in cement, damaged the deck. We'll need to make a heavy mark in the ground here. Then, they drug him up to the railing and rolled him overboard." Mykola threw the comforter overboard. Again, raising his foot, he pressed hard against the railing of the ship but it held firm, more than strong enough have supported a body being rolled over it. Grabbing his tools from the boat, Mykola marked the deck where the concrete block allegedly fell on the deck.

"Is there anything else you think needs to be done?"
OOC:

The Yacht (excessive) has a listed speed of 25 mph. An observer with an elevation of about 100 feet can see about 10-15 miles to the horizon. If we cruise for about an hour it should take us far enough out to not be visible from the coast. Also, the continental shelf along Florida is said to be pretty narrow so the area we are dumping the "body" should be fairly deep so when they are unable to find the body, it won't be surprising.

The goal is to clean up any evidence of what actually happened and plant evidence for our false narrative. Basically, that there was a struggle before the weighted body was thrown overboard.

Cover Up and Forgery are both aspects of what I am trying to do which both fall under the Falsify skill. I have a +8 to Falsify but I have not made any rolls in this case because it is listed as a Secret skill.

With the arrival of Nadya and the boat, I should have access to both my Cleaner Kit I and Forgery Kit I, since they total 25 lbs between them, so there shouldn't be any tool related penalties.

Mykola's Safehouse - Miami, FL

Nik had been able to easily transfer their inebriated host, the seas were relatively calm and the yacht's large swim deck provided a convenient platform for the somewhat unstable Alexander to stumble about. His eagerness to continue his introduction to the fourth member of their crew tempered only slightly by her large, furry companion - who in the end took a liking to the corpulent Russian boss who reciprocated to the dog's enthusiastic licks with a cheery, drunken laugh. Nadya looked on in pure amusement as she, Nik, and Alexander shared some witty banter in Russian while Bill and Mykola scrubbed the expensive yacht of any trace of their involvement, instead providing their own narrative for anyone finding the abandoned vessel. Upon completing their preparations Sheridan, who perhaps had seen the aftermath of similar such scenarios during his time serving his Country, had the thought all appeared legit and that perhaps they may pull things off yet.

It was a cramped ride back to the marina in the considerably smaller fishing boat, the roar of the wind and engines making any sort of conversation difficult. Though before casting off Nik had managed to meet Bill and Mykola on the yacht's swim deck, offering to put in an anonymous call to his contact in the Miami Custom and Border Patrol office once they were back on land ... that maybe there was value in the yacht being found adrift? And a few hours later, with a now sober and complaining Alexander Smirnov, they were sitting around the small yet stylish living area of Mykola's safehouse. Idly scratching Fenris's ears as he sat in one of the room's plush chairs, Alexander's gaze settled on his four rescuers, more alert now ... sober, "So. What now?"
OOC:
@Bill - Feel free to elaborate on where Mykola's safehouse is.

You both can elaborate on any additional precautions or measures you took to cover your tracks (I'm assuming the fishing boat is going to get a good cleaning and whatever steps you take to transport Alexander back to the safehouse).

So the plan moving forward with Alexander is? He'll be resistant if you bring up/bring in the FBI. You can attempt to subtly extract information from him of course. Just explain how you want to go about doing it ...

Letting out a long sigh as he cross stretched his arms, Sheridan walked over to the duffle bag he put on the table, lightly dropping the blindfold he had just taken off 'Alexander' next to it.

"Now I do a post mission equipment check," he said, pulling out the AUG, taking the magazine out and clearing the chamber, the unspent round falling into the bag, "Maybe get around to finishing that stupid hunk of metal that was giving me trouble earlier."

Sliding the rifle back into the bag, the soldier then pulled his pistol out, keeping it pointed well away from the Russian guest.

"Meanwhile," he said as he deftly cleared the sidearm, "You and the two Talky McTalkersons here are going to have a nice long chat about, oh, this and that."

Clicking the empty M9 closed, he then did a little gunslinger-twirl toss into the bag, picking the duffle up in one smooth motion.

"Could probably start at who the 'big bad scary SHE' is," he said, waving his hands in spooky jazz hands to emphasize the 'she' as he walked to the bedroom, "and work your way from there. Sandwiches in the fridge if you want some."

Mykola's Safehouse - Miami, FL

Mykola entered the safehouse and dropped a crate of supplies near the door. There was the fate scent of chlorine that followed him around at the moment. He disappeared briefly into the kitchen and returned carrying partial bottles of rum and vodka along with 4 glasses.

He sat down on the sofa across from Alexander. Pouring some Vodka in a glass, he handed it over to Alexander before pouring some Rum for himself*. Fishing out a couple cigars from his breast pocket, he offered one to of them to Alexander as well*.

"Finally, we can relax a little bit. You'll be safe here for as long as you need. You can leave any time you want but I'd appreciate it if you could shoot me a text before you do. I don't want to be caught in a compromising situation if this mafia learns you aren't actually dead." Leaning back, Mykola put his feet up on the coffee table. "That went about as well as could be expected. Not like that job back in Kharkiv a few years back. Russian diplomat, visiting the Drama Theatre, his own body guards hired to assassinate him. Unfortnately, he wasn't very cooperative so the extraction didn't go quite so cleanly."

Mykola took a long pull from his cigar and blew it slowly out over the coffee table. He looked down at the cigar in his hand. "I must say, if there is one good thing about living and working in this hell hole of a country, it's these." Mykola grunted, "And these have to be imported."

Somewhere, in the deepest depths of his mind, buried away, Stephen groaned. The smell of cigar smoke is a bitch to get out of a room.

* If anyone else is around, he'd offer it to them, too.
OOC:
Yea, once we are docked I'll do a cleaning of our rental boat. I don't want to go overboard, though. We are somewhat on record as having used this boat to the extent that, if authorities ask about it, I don't expect him to lie about renting it to us so I want some of our prints or signs that we were around but I do want to make sure to remove any traces of Alexander being on the boat.

Earlier, I made a quick, 1-minute Impress/Influence check to improve his disposition for the scene. Now that we are out of the immediate danger, I'd like to do the 10-minute version that will improve disposition for the rest of the mission.

The Impress/Influence check does list Take 20 as being allowed which would take 200 minutes, or almost 3 and a half hours so I am going to break out the cigars and booze and attempt to trade war stories with Alexander until the wee hours of the morning. Anyone else that wants to join us is welcome to do so.

If we have any shared interests those could also improve the check. My interests are Cigars, Gambling, and Yachting. I also have Computers but as that is out of character for Mykola, I won't use that one.

Impress is +8, my Lifestyle adds +1 which brings my total to 29 + any shared interests.

Poking his head back out, Sheridan shot a 'really?' look at the back of Mykola's head.

"'Hellhole'," he rolled his eyes before going back in, "Pfha, whatever. Try going to a place without running water, and the women are covered head-to-toe, see what you call it then."

Alexander snorted in amusement at Mykola's quip, cautiously taking the vodka and cigar with a look that indicated he was somehow waiting for the other shoe to drop and suddenly unsure of what to make of his 'hosts'. Taking a long pull from his own cigar he could only laugh, a laugh that sent a large puff of smoke floating towards the ceiling, at Bill's retort. "I've been to that very place," he replied with a chuckle, "Though it was payday for me."

As Sheridan tinkered with his makeshift suppressor, the pieces quickly and efficiently falling into place despite his earlier troubles, he could hear the muffled laughs and chuckles of Mykola, his two Russian born colleagues, and Alexander from the living room. It turned out that Mr. Smirnov was an arms dealer as well, and quickly became the life of the party, if it weren't for Nadya's presence Stephen at first worried his cover might fall apart under the mafioso's scrutiny, however the portly Russian boss was doing his best to impress the young woman into his bed. They had talked and celebrated well into the night but in the end, as back in his mansion, the mobster found his hosts agreeable.
OOC:
Alexander's disposition is now Intrigued and will remain so the rest of the mission. I'm assuming you all will eventually turn in? And questioning will come in the morning.

Of course, the moment I'm not on the clock, and the thing practically builds itself.

Putting his tools away, Sheridan reached over and cracked the door open a little, listening in on the conversation that was still going on in the other room. Just in time for Alexander to make another pass at Nadya.

Careful, man, Sheridan shook his head, Push too hard, you might find yourself waking up with a hangover next to her dog.

Sitting down in the bed, he slid the finished suppressor into his bag...

"Alright, big guy, your turn."
Afghanistan - Seems like a lifetime ago...

Dozer looked up and blinked.

"Sorry, what?"

He hadn't noticed the woman had moved away from the guy that had been flirting with her, and was now sitting expectantly before him at the bar.

"Dude, you got this," Dozer's squad-mate patted him on the shoulder before moving a few seats down.

Dozer looked back, before looking at the redhead waiting patiently before him. His eyes flicked at the fairly fresh scar running across her nose, before uncontrollably pointing down at the straining tank top under her undone fatigue jacket, then back up.

"Sorry, what?"

Green eyes rolled patiently, before she leaned forward, and blue eyes pointed down again briefly.

"C'mon, 'conquering hero', don't you want to 'claim your prize'?"

"Um..."

"My apologies for making you wait, Mr. Barnum," the bartender said, walking up to them, "Would you like your usual?"

"I, uh..."

"Sure!" she smiled at the tender, "In fact, why don't you serve up two?"

The bartender, slightly surprised, looked at her questioningly, "Are... you certain, miss?"

She shrugged, "Why not? I think I can handle what he's having."

The man quirked a slightly confused smile.

"I am confidant you can, miss," he said, before reaching down.

Two Cola bottles were placed on the bar.

She stared at them for a moment, before looking slightly unbelievingly at Dozer. It took another moment for her to apparently gauge the soldier sitting before her. A small laugh escaped her lips.

"Seriously?" she asked, tilting her head, "Couldn't find a place that served grape nehi?"

"Oh yes, we serve grape nehi," the bartender nodded, "Would you like...?"

Dozer held up his hand to stop him, "No, no, she's just making a joke at my expense, man, don't worry about it."

The bartender paused, before nodding in realization, "Oh yes, MASH reference, my mistake," before excusing himself and moving back down the bar.

The woman lightly tapped her finger on the bottle cap, green eyes again trying to judge what she was seeing, "So...?"

"Last time I had alcohol led to a... less than agreeable state for me," Dozer said, turning to his drink "Something that I'd like to not return to if I can help it."

"Hah. Wow. Okay," she said, looking away for a minute.

"Yeah," Dozer nodded, before indicating the stubborn hair on his chin, "Thrown off by the...?"

"Oh yes," she said, "that definitely sends a different message."

"Can't really be helped. I've burned through so many razors my Sergeant's basically given up, gotten our COs to write an exception for me."

"Is that so?" she laughed, looking back at the soldier.

For a second, Dozer thought she glanced over his shoulder at someone.

"Though what actually threw me off was considering how you just shrugged off a burst of AK fire to the chest," it also sounded like she had raised her voice slightly, "before slamming the shooter's head through the wall."

Dozer thought about it before shrugging.

"'Leven Bang Bang's job is to catch bullets," he said, "Better me than that family, whomever they were."

"And the head slamming?"

"That was just catharsis," Dozer indicated himself again, "I, uh, have a lot of pent up anger."

"Oh I could tell, what with all the shouting, the shooting, and the Hooah chest-thumping."

Before Dozer could answer, he heard a cough behind him.

"Hey, bro. Why don't I buy you a drink?"

Looking behind him, Dozer saw his squadmate, arm around another soldier, walking away from them. Dozer quirked an eyebrow.

"Yeah, well," he continued, "It's also what made alcohol less than agreeable for me, so..."

He looked back at her, and saw she was watching him intently again, tapping her chin in thought.

"Oh Mr. Barnum, I wanted to tell you before I forget again," the bartender returned "I wish to thank you for the work you done on helping build the playground at the school."

All of a sudden, her green eyes lit up, "You don't say. A playground?"

"Oh yes. It is just the latest assistance he has provided. Indeed, much of the building itself has this man's hand behind it in one way or another. I can not tell you how much it warms this father's heart to see his daughter so happy to learn."

"Ah, it's a group effort, sir," Dozer grinned humbly, "I just lugged materials from one spot to another."

"Enough material for three men, Mr. Barnum! All on top of your usual duties, I might add! Once more, I thank you."

The bartender bowed his head, before heading back to work.

"He exaggerates. One and a half, tops," Dozer said, turning back to the redhead.

He was surprised by how much closer she was all of a sudden. Green eyes searched blue as she leaned in.

"Hmm," she hummed, "Trying to soften cashing in the favor?"

Dozer paused questioningly.

"Favor?"

"Oh come on," she smiled knowingly, "big alpha dog like you, reveling in the combat, pulls a nubile damsel out of danger. I see the way you look at me..."

She twisted in her seat, pressing her fatigues down strategically, exposing her generous curves. Dozer found himself standing increasingly at attention.

"...It's only natural," she continued, "And while I appreciate the curveball for flavor, we both know what..."

"Stop," he said.

Dozer reached down, turning her seat until she faced him completely. This time he leaned in, blue eyes bored into green.

"You owe me nothing. Understand?" he said, "Nothing. Your squad was in trouble, that family was in trouble. We were in a position to help. This is our job, what we were trained to do. What I signed on to do.
And would have done whether you were there or not. So yes, you're welcome. That's as far as it needs to go."

For a sec, he registered the faintest glimmer of surprise in her expression. It fading quickly, however, and a vixen-ish grin started to spread on her face. She gently pushed him back.

"Well then, if that's the case," she opened her soda, before intently taking a swig, "If I don't need to give you anything..."

She leaned in once more, this time towards his ear.

"Then maybe I can convince you to give something to me~."
Mykola's Safehouse - Miami, FL - Today

Sheridan snapped out of it as laughter picked up in the other room. Sounded like they were finishing up in there. He put the last of his gear away, and stood up, wiggling a little to, erm, 'relax'. When they were done, they were going to need to set up guard duty for the night. As the heaviest equipped, that probably meant the soldier for one.

'Twas gonna be an interesting night.

Mykola's Safehouse - Miami, FL

Mykola sighed and stubbed out his cigar. It was late and everyone involved was tired. The sun wasn't up yet, but it wasn't far off.

"We should try to get some sleep." Mykola pointed to one of doors just down the hall. "I'd recommend you take the bedroom. The windows face the central courtyard so they aren't visible from the street. We can discuss our next move once we've all had some sleep."

Mykola started taking the cushions off the couches. Looking to the others, Mykola added, "Unfortunately, there is just the one bedroom so the rest of us will have to make do with these."
OOC:

The safehouse is effectively a Lifestyle 3 home which can hold 6 people comfortably. I pictured the place as a single story building with an enclosed central courtyard with most of the windows facing the courtyard. This allows the comforts of natural daylight while shielding the occupants from prying eyes outside the property. Windows facing outward will almost always have the blinds drawn.

The plan at this point is to sleep in until noon, have breakfast / lunch, discuss things with Alexander, hopefully gather some useful intel and then report in of the job's completion.

The impromptu party lasted well into the wee hours of the morning, until finally Mykola - taking charge - recommended they turn in for what remained of the night, relinquishing the bedroom to the heavyset Russian out-of-favor mob boss. The large chair creaked as the corpulent man rose, bowing graciously to his host, with one final smirk towards Nadya and signaling towards the bedroom with his eyes that got a laugh from them both before Alexander retired and not long after loud snoring could be heard as the small crew worked out the rest of the sleeping arrangements with Bill volunteering to take the first watch.

The near Noon sun woke them, the clocks reading 11:00, as even their heavy slumbering guest staggered out of the bedroom to rub the sleep and drunkeness from his eyes. "What's for breakfast," he barked in heavy accented Russian

"I'm afraid there is nothing spectacular, nothing perishable, mostly canned goods. But, there is coffee."

Mykola filled the water reservoir in the coffee maker, loaded the coffee grounds and turned it on before going into the kitchen larder. Calling out he asked, "Would you prefer chicken with rice, chicken noodle, beef stew, baked beans, tomato . . .?"

Removing the bowls from over the sink, he started microwaving "breakfast"and after several minutes, they were ready to eat.

"This afternoon we need to report in to the people that wanted you dead that the deed is done. You said last night that there was a time that she wouldn't have dared to come after you. Who is the she that you are referring to?"
OOC:
So begins the questioning part. The plan is to find out as much as we can from this guy about why they wanted him dead and the various movers and shakers within the organization.

I don't want to antagonize him too much, yet, so if he seems reluctant to share any particular information I'll just drop it for now and move on to other topics.

General Tao's Roosterboys poured in through the windows. The roof finally caved in from the barrage, the meatball mortars slamming true on target. A scream, as the turret emplacement was engulfed in a cloud of Cheeto dust and marinara sauce.

Ducking behind the quickly withering aisle cover, Dozer tossed away his Pringles.

"Last bag!" he shouted as he grabbed the last chips within reach. Ripping the container open, he only paused when he heard the ding of the rear door opening.

Looking over, he saw a swaying drunk bear in an ushanka in the gateway.

"Grvsne," the bear growled, "What's for breakfast?"

*SNRK!*

Dozer's head shot up.

Wha? Russians in the barracks? Huh?

Looking around through blurred eyes, his brain slowly processed his surroundings.

Oh right. We're in Miami, with this guy.

Shifting in his slightly padded chair...

Cushions, he had snarked the night before, Must be my birthday.

...Sheridan's bones cricked as he laid back and stretched, listening to brunch options.

"Chicken 'n rice for me," he said, eyes closed again, doing his best to remain 'in character' accent-wise, "And someone wanna check the radio? Make sure the world hasn't burned down while we slept?"

He then did his best to rest his eyes just a little while longer, until a bowl of chicken and rice was laid before him.

"Thanks, boo," he said nasally with a fake kiss blow, "Make ya something real nice tomorrow."

He then silently listened as he chewed on his food.

As Mykola laid out the brunch options Alexander waved a hand dismissively, indicating the selection mattered little to him and as the table was set he took a seat before the bowl of beef stew, the chair creaking as he settled his heavy frame down. Pausing mid-bite he looked at the arms dealer through narrow appraising eyes, and reasoning out the purpose behind the question. Shrugging, he took a bite and through a mouthful of stew, his Russian accent on the verge of being hard to understand, "Ha! Her rise to power ... took a bigger toll on our thing than those meatball eating, Godfather loving, shlyukhas. And her temper ... has gotten greater."

Sheridan paused mid chew, then looked at Mickey.

"Her name's not 'Her She', is it?" he asked flatly, "And this is some 'Who's on first' gag?"

He gulped down the food, and looked back at Alexander with a tired smirk.

"Or is she like Beetlejuice, and you're afraid saying her name three times will summon her?"

Clapping his hand in a sudden shock of realization, the soldier pointed back and forth between the two.

"OH! It's Florida Man in drag! I'm... that's a thing that happens around here, right? I think I heard that on the internet somewhere."

Mykola just muttered a single name and watched the Russian for a reaction. "Katja Anastasia Mikhailovich."

The big Russian boss chuckled, his large belly jiggling, as he turned an amused look towards Bill at his witty quip only to raise a brow and turn his gaze to Mykola. His eyes shifted between the pair, narrowing in appraisal as he attempted to puzzle where the conversation was leading. "Da," he said in response, "it was she who hired you to kill me, yes?"

Finishing his bowl he belched loudly, eyes drifting towards the liquor bottles that were scattered about and looking for a full one, "I would prefer to be out of town as soon as possible and you have my thanks for sparing me. But I'm not sure what you want or expect of me. Guns? Weapons? I can certainly get you those ... anytime you need. I have various other resources I could offer you as well but if you are hoping to blackmail me or somehow use me as leverage against Katja ... well, I don't think that will end well for you. As I say ... her temper these days is," his thickly accented Russian tailed off as he shrugged.
OOC:
To wrap this up quickly ... just ask your questions next post then I think I can summarize his responses and we can make the Infil roll and move onto your guys next strategy.

Also ... for anyone interested. You can pick up Alexander as a Channel for a type of weapon (Russian made) or keep him in mind as a Contact for later down the road for Networking increases.

"I have no desire to blackmail you but we would appreciate any information you could give us about this mafia. The more we know, the easier it will be for us to climb through the ranks."

"Is this Katja the one in charge of this organization?"

"The ones that spoke with us directly was an Italian couple. Do you know anything about them?"

"Do you have the means to get yourself discretely out of town?"
OOC:

I am sure I'll come up with some other questions later but my brain is not working right now.

If the guy has access to weapons, maybe this guy could be taken as a Channel, per the Big Score, for future use. Dozer could have a chance to bring out the really big guns down the line. ;)

Finding a bottle that still contained some liquor - helpful perhaps were one to be nursing a hangover per hair of the dog as they say - Alexander poured himself a drink as he sat back down at the table, eyeing the four agents surrounding him as he seemed to carefully consider his responses.

Towards Mykola's question regarding knowledge and its usefulness in climbing through the organizations hierarchy he could only laugh, and following some rather unflattering remarks in Russian admitted that with Katja results were worth more than loyalty or years of service with failure earning a quick dismissal - that was his issue after all was it not.

As to Katja's role, he spent a considerable amount of what remained of the afternoon describing the heiress's role with an almost admiring, loving tone. Confirming she was indeed the sole person in charge, of not only the Russian mob in Miami but also the Italian Coosa Nostra in New York/New Jersey. Unfortunately he could not say much about the Italian couple they were currently working under, citing the Russian and Italian sides of their thing had very little contact.

At Mykola's concern towards his safely skipping town the obese mobster snorted in amusement, chuckling as he stated the Haitian gangs he was currently working with could see him safely out of town by way of the Caribbean. Heading off any concern of a leak he held up a cautioning hand, shrugging has he admitted that the dark tone of the Haitians skin meant that his Russian and even Italian former colleagues had little to do with them.

His eyes searched those gathered at the table, brow rising as if to say was there anything else? It was after all pushing past mid-afternoon and he was anxious to retreat from town - they still had to make contact with their 'employers' to report the deed had been done.

Sheridan listened intently, bowl long since emptied and cleaned.

"Right, so she's got a temper and a 'you have failed me for the last time' complex. Terrific combo," he scratched his chin, "Question is, how light is her trigger?"

He leaned forward.

"Just how badly did you screw up? The guy who gave us the task could barely speak English, and I'm not even exaggerating when I say that, but I think he implied it had to do with the 'hacker problem'?"

He then looked at the rest of the crew.

"That's the one that was guarded, right, but was taken? Or am I mixing things up?"

The big Russian snorted in amusement or derision Sheridan could not tell, "Net. Losing the komp'yuternyy gik was not the problem. It was the program he had ... that for some reason I compromised and agreed to not have a copy given to us."

The corpulent boss's eyes then narrowed as his face scrunched up in anger, "It also didn't help matters that the sniveling trus pissed off a lot of clients before he got captured by the FBI."
Jul 6, 2020 10:43 pm
Sheridan whistled and shook his head.

"Bet too much on a bad horse, and it backfired monumentally. Well, luck was with you this time, man."

He lightly back-handed tapped Mickey's shoulder.

"These folks are more 'can't do business with a corpse' type guys," a smirk creeped onto the soldier's face, "And this war dog needs much more convincing to off a guy in his own home than a spaghetti-gargler pointing at a house and saying 'kill man in there'."

Standing up, he reached his arm around his shoulder, and cricked his neck. His tattoo was much more obvious as he did so.

"Tell you what, I've done worse for a POG PoS Louie-tenant," a sideways glance to Mickey, "That's 'Lefty' for the British folk... who could barely read a map, let alone give an order. But at least he could art-ic-u-late."

He nodded to Nadya as he walked past her to the fridge.

"And this crew appreciates the time I spent in the shit."

OOC:
So if you look back at the second page of this thread HERE you will see that Mykola made the Bureaucracy roll with the rest of the team as 'Helpers' in a Cooperative Check.

@RusVal provide a Bureaucracy roll and depending on what whitmore rolls you may/may not add a +1.

@whitmore I will provide Nik and Nadya's rolls below as they may/may not add a +1.

Bonuses/Penalties:
-1 for the 'cleaning' done to Alexander's house. Not a strong roll unfortunately.
+2 for the forensics planted on the yacht. Very strong roll.
+1 for the 'cleaning' of the fishing vessel
The modifier for the Show of Loyalty strategy is +0

Rolls

Nik - Helper roll for Infiltration Bureaucracy check - (1d20+1)

(3) + 1 = 4

Nadya - Helper roll for Infiltration Bureaucracy check - (1d20+3)

(6) + 3 = 9

Nik leaned against the driver side door of the team's Land Rover, making a poor attempt at hiding the smile with knowing glances towards Nadya at the unflattering racial slurs the hefty mob boss was hurling at the Haitians in Russian, as Alexander hoisted himself into the dark American made SUV. Mykola and Sheridan, from the positions seated in the back seat of the Rover, could still see the Russian's pudgy cheeks flapping at the two dark-skinned men in the font seat as the vehicle pulled away. With Alexander now out of the picture all there was left to do was call their Italian recruiters.
OOC:
You all were successful with your Bureaucracy roll for this Infiltration Conflict round ... by quite a large margin. You get your advantage for winning the round plus and additional (2). Show of Loyalty provides the Lead and Transfer Advantages. I believe on your previous round you wanted to get the location of their 3rd Site? Use the second bonus and you would learn their headquarters. Or you can cash them all in for Lead and essentially end the Infiltration. Well deserved perhaps. Though I do have lot more scenarios (since the Lead began at 4 I made that many plus a few additional in case you failed a roll or two) if you want the additional XP

Mockingbird Cafe - Overtown, Miami FL

Having successfully 'taken care of' Alexander Smirnov the team was directed to meet their contact at the Mockingbird Cafe - a swanky, high end coffee shop just off Biscayne Blvd. in Overtown that they knew was close to the luxury apartment Katja's two married lieutenants had rented. As they approached the storefront they could see two of the muscled-bound bodyguards that had accompanied the couple at the Saxony Bar, standing sentry outside - not fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, the one that had taken them on the driving tour through the pudgy crime boss's neighborhood. Through the clear, tempered floor to ceiling glass they could see the woman - Alessandra they had since learned - sitting at one of the high top tables, her back to the door that demonstrated perhaps an almost cocky lack of fear on young lady's part.

Entering, the barista nervously asked if he could help them with an almost fearful look cast towards the only other patron in the small space. The young woman, even considerably dressed down from when they last saw her at the Saxony, still exuded a deadly sexiness that was both striking and alarming as she sat looking through her phone, a steaming cup in front of her as she idly fingered the necklace hanging down her low cut top.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1nFEqdWBHRcpq6OJ6twcgWAr12QjG3XL5

Without looking up or at them she casually spoke,"Rumors abound. It seems our friend took his boat out last night and has failed to return home." It was then that she finally did look up, her eyes belaying a hint of dangerous as they swept the team, "I'm still intrigued. We'll be in touch." Her eyes returned to her phone, her guards suddenly at their sides, not exactly threatening in their manner but clearly indicating with the silent way they stared at the crew that the meeting was concluded.
OOC:
I believe the agreement is that you all will be implementing the Data Run strategy. You know from your early Quick Peek that the organization does a good deal of business through a law firm downtown and out of the Port of Miami. @whitmore has indicated he thought the law firm the better target.

The Law Firm is in Downtown Miami on the 9th floor of a high rise building of of Brickell Bay Drive overlooking the Bay. Please indicate in your post how you propose to break in -- daytime will obviously be busy but less 'secure' whereas at night you will have less people but more security to worry with.

"Ah, we found your boundaries. Rent-a-cops, no go. Mafia, off the hook. But lawyers . . ." Mykola made the shooting motion with his fingers.

"But yea, I think the Law Office network is more likely to have the kind of information we are looking for; those in charge, what other organizations they have ties with, those sorts of things. Nik was able to pull up some relevant specs of the building that contains the law offices on the 16th floor. I recommend a two phase approach."

"In Phase 1, we act like potential legitimate clients. Drop in, try to arrange a meeting to discuss potentially keeping their firm on retainer, maybe name drop that we are business associates of Alessandra. This can give Nik a chance to get the lay of the land, maybe lift a key card off of someone."

"For Phase 2 when we sneak back in, After Hours, to actually hack into the network using maybe a key card, gained from phase 1, or we have to jimmy the lock on the door. We'll want to keep an eye out for security systems when we scout the place out."

"I realize if Sebastian was here, he would find our plan boring." Mykola glanced at Bill and added with a wink, "He'd want to start on the roof of the building; probably by parachuting from a passing airplane; repack the chutes, rappel down to the 16th floor, sneak in through the windows, hack into the network and use the parachutes to clear the last 16 floors back to earth and then make our getaway via high speed car chase through the streets."

Nik commented about the possibility of someone reporting a missing card.

"That's a good point. We should aim for an afternoon meeting for Phase 1. After lunch so the missing card will likely go unnoticed until the following morning. Any other thoughts?"

I'm assuming the planning is taking place at the safe house which is why I used that location.

Sheridan stuck out his tongue a little at the finger shooting, then listened to Mickey's reasoning.

He coughed a laugh, nodding about Sebastian, only to pause and squint his eyes, brain working, before blinking the thought away. As the 'arms dealer' finished, Sheridan raised a hand.

"Okay, one, we had orders to not murder anyone, and that guy's a potential future asset, so it made it easier to not just pop 'im. Can't really say the same about lawyers.

"Two, joking aside, I wasn't entirely kidding about the reasons I gave him. Ever since I got back stateside I've been... trying extra hard not to kill anyone if I can help it,"
he turned his head towards Nik, and winked, "For a variety of reasons.

"Three, I can't remember if any of you know this, other than *ahem* 'Number Five', but someone potentially posing as a lawyer snuck in and killed the mob boss that was captured on the train heist. Most likely it was just someone pretending to be legal council, but,"
a grimace and a shake of the head, "Worst case scenario, we might be sneaking into an assassin guild using a law office as a front. Unlikely, sure, but let's not take anything for granted, yeah?

"Finally,"
he paused, brain once more working away, as he contemplated what he was going to suggest, "I might have a subject we can use as an excuse to get in."

He slumped back in his seat with a sigh, eyes briefly un-focusing.

"I've never mentioned this, but I had a girlfriend once..."
Jul 18, 2020 5:11 pm
He quickly pointed at Myk and Nik.

"Hey! I see the jokes rattling around in your head, y'all just keep 'em to yourself, alright."

A smile grew on his face when 'Nadya', playfulness in her voice, asked if she was cute.

"She was a dream," he sighed, "as fantastic a fox as you can find on this Earth. Red hair, shining green eyes, amazing body."

The smile turned into a smirk.

"It's not for nothing that 'Kyonyuu Kitsune' is the one Japanese phrase I understand by heart, and I highly suggest keeping safe search on when looking that up," he chuckled, taking a sip from the soda can he had, before leaning forward with a breath.

"She's also a very vulpine mercenary fireteam leader," he said, more serious, "with the type of cunning that can catch you off guard if you aren't careful."

A slight nod of the head towards Nadya, "Might not be able to quote everything Sun Tzu said, but I'll be damned if she wouldn't keep that old fogey on his toes if she had half the mind.

"First met over in Afghanistan, before my 'defining moment'. The PMC she was working for was escorting the family of some VIP or other, I forget who, and happened to be chased through our AO. We picked the fleas off her crew, gave our good lucks, parted ways. Ran across her again later during down time.

"She introduced herself as 'Fiona Reynard', but I'm not 100% convinced that wasn't an alias of some sort, though mostly that's from how hard she worked not to talk about her life before her job. Was pretty moot, anyways, since most people just called her 'Blazer'. Like 'little red blazer', y'know?

"Got to talking, got to drinking, she got to seducing me, I got to let her,"
another smile, more subdued, "I apparently I was really good at that, because she kept coming back for repeat performances."

He raised the can, "Then, after my 'long night', found a real vixen of a Valkyrie standing over me as I lay healing, at which point..."

A smile, and a gulp of soda.

"Got a good taste of Valhalla, I tell you what."

He shook his head as he put the can down.

"Unfortunately, that was one of the casualties of my other 'defining moment'. Wish it was just a case of never seeing each other again, but... we parted on less than stellar footing. And I haven't heard from her again"

A shrug with a grimacing smile.

"Until recently. A bit before we started this grand adventure, and old army buddy," 'Sheridan' lifted an eyebrow at Mickey as he said 'army buddy', "Gave me a heads up that she might be coming to Miami. Which isn't a big deal, just keep my head down, avoid all busty redheads. 'Cept the heads up was that she might be looking for me personally, and she might have been using shenaniganry to do so. Nothing concrete to prove that, but he still suggested I keep my head on a swivel just in case.

"Now I know, 'why didn't I bring this up before?' Like I said, it was a tip from a friend with thin evidence, and..."
a wave of the hand at the safehouse, "Conditions would make her finding me even trickier than normal. Odds were, we'd probably just have a 'oh crap, it's my ex' situation to sneak away from. But..."

He leaned forward again, resting his chin on his clenched hands.

"If we all insist on keeping going with this, probably best to bring forth any potential complications. Not to mention," a smile, "ya think 'my ex-girlfriend might be up to something suspicious' is good enough reason to seek legal council?"

Nik could only laugh, smirking in the roguish way only he seemed to be able to pull off at Sheridan made known his view on lawyers. He did interject at the mention of the law offices as a front for a company of assassins, mentioning that the law offices in question was one of the more prestigious in Miami that represented all the big deals, rich, and famous. They certainly had the means to make someone disappear, but would make sure there was no direct connection to them.

The jokes and friendly banter paused as the rest of the team listened as Bill informed them of a potential security risk in the form of an ex-girlfriend that the war veteran painted a vivid picture of. When he finished, he couldn't help but notice Nadya and Nik smirking, the Russian born FBI agent sweeping Sheridan through narrowed, appraising eyes that left him feeling like she was making a selection from the desert tray - the long haired thief's smirk seeming a bit to imaginative for the soldier's liking.

"I appreciate the honesty," Nadya admitted before waving her hand dismissively, "But the odds of running into her on the street are unlikely ... and she's looking for an FBI agent. Not Bill Sheridan, bodyguard to a blind arms dealer."

Nik nodded in agreement, "We are undercover."

With a firm shake of his long haired head, the thief's eyes met Mykola, seeming back to the business at hand. "The retainer fee must be like $100,000 or more," he admitted with a nervous look towards Sheridan, "I doubt a crazy ex-girlfriend is going to pique their interest and from what that fat Russian boss said it sounds like Alessandra probably doesn't have any pull. If we were in New York it'd probably be a different story." He paused, smiling mischievously, "We put on the a display similar to that night in the club however ... Nadya and Mykola black marketeers ... they'd see someone that could afford their fees and would most certainly need to make use of them."
OOC:
Good stuff! And more subtle introduction to Dozer's past.

Feel free to add to the discussion. Offer any rebuttals to Nik's statements.

I have moved/assumed that you all are at your Cover ID's safehouse ... I figure ya'll probably sanitized and burned (not literally) the safehouse you had Alexander in. Per the Safehouse feat Stephen/Mykola would have access to a second one this mission. Or perhaps you all are now meeting at the second one?
Jul 20, 2020 9:15 pm
"You realize that, by romantic comedy rules, saying that means she standing right outside the door, right?" Sheridan joked, thumbing and giving a glance towards the door, before listening to Nik.

"Even if we use words like 'shenaniganry'? Oh well I see, it's one of those types of places."

He paused as a thought struck him.

"Wait a minute. Doesn't that just mean they deal with rich crazy ex-girlfriends, and crazy ex-girlfriends trying to be rich?"
Jul 21, 2020 1:23 am
Nik held up both hands apologetically, signifying that he certainly had meant no offense, "The crazy ex certainly gives us a reason for being there ... I was only saying that Nadya and Mykola will have to get us through the door."

Nadya looked pleased, swaying her hips playfully, "I did look good in that coat."
Jul 21, 2020 1:59 am
Sheridan smile shrugged, and gave a little wave to show he didn't take any offense.

"Fair point that if it was just me they probably wouldn't let me through the front door, even with the fancy southern gentleman get-up I got."

A small chuckle.

"And really, I probably would have brought her up, no matter what we were trying to do. 'Gotta infil a coffee shop? Neat. Y'know who likes to go to those things?"

He double thumbs upped with a goofy grin.

"Girlfriends!" point, "Hey, did I mention that I had one?"

The soldier ran a hand through his hair, "Though in this case we could use the situation to our advantage on that front.
Like I said, she worked for a PMC, though she was a bit of a journeywoman in that regard. When I returned from Ranger School training she'd switched employers to... what was it, Red Raven LLC? Which went out of business since I was 'removed' from the sandbox. I honestly could not tell you who she was working for now, of which..."

Sheridan shifted upright, and did his best Mickey impression, "'This new employee of ours has brought to our attention a possible issue via a past love interest. We aren't entirely sure how severe a problem this is, because he has been out of contact with her for a number of years now. We were wondering if you could do a little... scouting, to see if there's anything we need to worry about on the legal front?'"

He looked at Mickey, goofy smile back on his face, "Yeah? Yeah?"

"I appreciate your telling us about you ex being in the area. It could complicate things so it is better if everyone is on the same page. We should have a code word, like 'henpecked', so we can alert each other if it comes up. Oh, and what would you have us do if she becomes an issue?"
"As far as dealing with the lawyers go, I think Nik has the right idea. Our intel indicates this law firm is strongly tied to, if not outright owned by, the mafia. I think if we let it be known that we are international entrepreneurs with at least a passing association with the mafia, they can jump to their own conclusions. We don't need a specific incident to put a firm on retainer. Let's pull up the name of 2 other law offices, let them know we are shopping for a good lawyer and let them give us the sale pitch."
OOC:

There are kind of 2 threads of conversation going on so I wanted to address them both in one post even though the comments above would probably be made at different points of the conversation.
Jul 21, 2020 3:02 pm
Nadya raised an amused brow as Nik snorted in delight at Mykola's suggestion of a safeword, the pair of Russian born agents sharing a knowing look - no doubt contributed to the odd sense of humor all Eastern Europeans seemed to share.

"Delio & Furax and Franklin & Bash," Nik quickly interjected at Mykola's question on additional law firms, shrugging as all attention turned to him, his look seeming to say 'thief, remember'.
OOC:
Very quick response and leaving it here so that @RusVal can have Bill respond to Mykola's question on what they should do if the girlfriend is encountered.

It seems like a plan is in place. My next post take us to the law offices? Keep in mind that you would have 2 days per conflict round so you would be able to recon the place that afternoon ... get whatever supplies you think you would need and make additional plans and sneak into the building the following night.
Jul 21, 2020 3:42 pm
OOC:
I think that both can work as just Mickey speaking up after. Y'know how you sometimes get in a group conversation, and you can't get a word in edgewise, or decide to bide your time to answer? Could be a little a both right there.

Viscayne Luxury Condos

"Ah, he speaks. Well, let me answer those backwards, because the second answer is much shorter:

Lawyers. You are the schmooze expert, I'll let you take lead on what we talk about. Just giving you another tool on your belt, and a potential secondary target once we are there."

The soldier leaned forward, taking a second to remember some details.

"Blazer, though," he pushed out a breath, "Wow it has been a while, so I can't be certain of her state of mind, or the training she's gotten since...

"Okay, first of all, unless I am there, or you are sure it's just you three and her, I would not recommend getting in a fight, especially if it's a gunfight,"
a shake of the head, "she is not what you would call an overwhelming combatant, but that's not what makes her so dangerous."

Another pause, then a chuckle breath, "Yeah, so, she's a lot like, *ahem*, Ellie in that both are of the 'SWAT, CQB, and MOUT firefight school of tactics," a turn to Nik and Myk, "That's the whole '4 to 8 tactical guys sweeping and clearing rooms' type of stuff, though in her case it was usually four, the size of a fireteam."

He placed a hand on his chest, "For comparison, I trained and fought in 8-man squad, rifle, thumper, gunner, team leader, though we liked to joke that I was just the 'shoutier rifleman'. Open fields, streets, working with vehicular support and targets, that sort of thing. Got deeper into smaller CQB in Ranger School, excelled as Heavy Gunner and Assault Element, though I'm told I could make a good Recon if I could stop clanking about so much.

"Ellie, meanwhile, is 'official tac-squad training', like academy-level officer type stuff,"
a thumb toward Nadya, "A bit like Five in the vein of barking orders and coordinating people, though Five's more focused on the head-game element, while Ellie's like an infantry Lieutenant."

Another shake of the head, "Blazer though? She's the scrappy kinda cunning you'd get from grinding through on-the-job training. Her form was a little raw at first, like she got the barest minimum of basic, then became a mercenary. But her positional awareness and reaction time were amazing. As she got more seasoned, she became able to read the fight and," finger snap, "know right where she needed to be, and where her gun needed to be pointing. When I came back from Fort Benning, we even got together and had some private training sessions..."

He looked at the returning smirks, "Yeeeees, and physical workouts, too. But she picked up on those tactics so quickly, I wouldn't be surprised if she's practically as good as any one of those officers they had at the base.

"At the very least, I expect her to have a combat expert of some sort backing her up. While she usually isn't the first through the door, she almost always is the second,"
a smirk as he patted his shoulder, "I should know. And if that's the case, I would definitely recommend all four of us being there, because then it would be a fair fight. That said, she's never been one for fair fights, so..."

The soldier sighed, and shrugged.

"On the bright side, if she doesn't just come in shooting, then she's probably just going to talk. I'm not all the," he wiggle pointed at his head and whistled, "As you guys are, but even I can tell a few things. For one, she has a very... rugged sort of grace too her, if that make sense. Smooth movements, self confidence, even with a bit of a rough exterior. And witty banter, she loves witty banter. Particularly," lifted an arm straight up, and pointed at Nik's mouth, "when trying to wipe overly imaginative smirks off of guys' faces. Trust me, dude, she's left a trail of deflated bros in her wake with a few pointed words, bring your A-game if you don't want to walk away embarrassed. Thinking about it, she probably liked me because I was a breath of fresh air in comparison. So yeah, sincerity and the ability to keep up mentally, she liked that back then."

Sheridan then looked at Nadya, "Oooh hooo hooo, you though. Aaaaah, you two are gonna make my face turn so red," he indicated said face, "this whole thing's just gonna be a tomato once you two are done. God, she used to tease me occasionally with the idea. She was never serious though, just loved my reaction, the homegrown American country boy seeing the whole wide world, y'know? Don't you think that's gonna work now, though, I have since hardened from years of fieldwork. At most your just gonna get an eyeroll and a headshake.

"Oh, and the codephrase is 'Aurora', Mickey, just so ya know."

He picked his soda back up.

"Wow, it's been a while since I talked about someone this much. Feeling a little thirsty."

Mykola shook his head at Bill. "Aurora? Really? We need to work on your innuendo. How the hell am I supposed to slip 'Aurora' into casual conversation? 'Hey, did you get down to see the aurora borealis last season'?"

Checking the time, he continued. "Well, we should get going."

"I dunno," Sheridan said, drawl getting real heavy, "Y'all are tha good spekin' wit tha werds.

"Sides, it's supposed to be another way of saying foxfire. Guess you could say, 'hey, been having issues with my browser, you use Foxfire?' or suppin'.

"Now where'd I put that hat?"

Not unsurprising - and perhaps intentional on their part so as to provide more time to observe - as they had no appointment they were made to wait. Nadya, looking elegant in the same long velvet coat she had worn to the Saxony, for her part sat looking straight ahead playing the part of a blind woman as Fenris calmly lay at her feet. Mykola was beside her with Nik and Sheridan standing to either side, looking every bit of the hired protection they were perhaps meant to be. The decor was very modern and very Miami, that complemented the expansive view of the Bay through the massive floor to ceiling windows. The young, blonde haired office administrator offered the occasional smile and polite apology that someone would be with them soon in between the phone calls and emails that seemed to be a constant.

Nik was very much 'on duty', though no one but them would know as the international thief held a cool, confident smirk - with the occasional wink at the cute blonde - they could however see his eyes roving, calculating behind the long hair and roguish grin. They had valeted their Land Rover - Nik who had been driving had seen the security cameras for the parking deck prior to pulling in - confident that the garage entry would be like any other in any city throughout the world. Meaning poorly lit though with security cameras and punch code locks on the door, the elevator most likely requiring an access card to activate after hours for the residences and any office staff or building staff that might be working late.

Entering the building the lobby at that time of day was busy with shoppers going to and from the stores as well as those people who worked in the building. A welcome/help desk was prominent and the banks of monitors confirmed it doubled as a security station. They didn't need Nik to see the cameras in the corridors and elevators and as they took the relatively fast ride to the sixteenth floor the roguish thief whispered that there were probably cameras in the stairwells also - one would assume more for public safety than building security.

Whether from the cut of their clothes or perhaps the imposing figure of Sheridan standing sentry beside his charges, they had only to wait for about twenty minutes before the young woman smiled and in a somewhat over enthusiastic and cheery tone, "Ms. McBeal will see you now." A striking young(ish) woman opened the heavy glass door, offering a polite smile as she extended her hand. Even the firm's lawyers were Miami, as the elegant blonde woman was wearing a tapered suit coat with a low cut blouse, her dress slit on one side to show her pale long leg.

"Handshake, 1130," Sheridan show whispered to Nadya as he held his cowboy hat in his hand.

His professionalism held back any comment about good looking female lawyers.

After his 'charge' introduced himself, he leaned in and took Ms. McBeal's hand.

"Sheridan, the other dog," he said with a little half smile as he gently shook, before returning to standing in the background.

Mykola shook the woman's hand introduced himself. Once the pleasantries were completed and they were seated in her office get, he got down to business.

"Thank you for taking the time to see us on such short notice. I don't want to waste your time so I'll get right to the point of our visit." Mykola paused for a moment before continuing. "A recent, uh, opportunity has raised the possibility for us to open an import business here in the states. When it comes to business law in the United States, I have to admit my knowledge is, uh, how you say, shaky. We did some asking around and found several places that might be able to help. Delio & Furax, Franklin & Bash and George Ward & Associates, the last of which was highly regarded by our, uh, associates."
OOC:

I am trying to use Sense Motive / Innuendo to hint that the "opportunity" may not be entirely legal and that our "associates" are with the mafia without having to come right out and say, "hey, I'm a weapons smuggler and the mafia thinks you could help us!".

Since the check has the Secret tag, I didn't make the roll here.

Stephen's Sense Motive / Innuendo is +6 base with a +1 Synergy bonus for his Impress skill for a total of +7 on the roll.

Her stunning blue eyes took in the seemingly Eastern European man, the blind woman that clearly was an associate and not any sort of significant other or escort, and the pair of men standing behind them that could not be anything but protection. "I see," she replied with a knowing smile, "I think you'll find our firm considerably more practiced at ... business law was it?"

He eyes narrowed thoughtfully, a small smile as she tapped her lips, scanning the them with an appraising eye, "Of course our fees are considerable."
OOC:
Okay. So Mykola is confident she definitely understood your underlying meaning. And can be certain she is saying that that kind of representation is costly ... more so than their average wealthy client.

Sheridan could feel the muscles in his eye reflexively trying to move in a rolling motion in reaction to a lawyer being so willing to work with 'businessmen' such as themselves, for large arbitrary numbers of trade paper. Only drilled professionalism, from hours of sergeants shouting in his face, kept his expression still.

"Vot chuma."*, Mykola muttered, "Well, let's not, how you say, 'pound around the bush' and get down to it. Exactly what can you offer and what is it going to cost us."
OOC:

Mykola doesn't really care what they are offering or how much it costs, he just wants to keep her talking as long as is feasible, gather all the paperwork available, thank her for her time and let her know that we will consider her firm's offer.

As far as Nik, any access card he can get should suffice to get us in the elevator. If he can get one from an employee of the law office, even better. Or both. I guess we don't have to limit ourselves. If he has both, then at least 1 is more likely to work the elevator at the very least.

What kind of security did we see inside the building? Was there an alarm panel by the entrance to the law office? Were the law office entrance doors key locks, electronic locks or both?"

* "an exclamation meaning 'that’s plague!' . . . it meant something like 'shucks!' or 'blimey!' - an expression of bewilderment, either negative or positive."

The captivating young lawyer smiled, satisfied that and enthused that costs did not seem to be a concern for the, clearly criminal, party sitting in her expansive office. Dividing her attention appropriately between Nadya and Mykola, she began what seemed a rehearsed presentation on the services they provided and the costs - per month - of holding their firm on retainer which were quoted North of $150,000. Still for all appearances unconcerned with the price, Mykola calmly and confidently asked for the appropriate paperwork and whatever else would be needed, that they would consider the firm's offer. Nodding enthusiastically, smiling politely, Ms. McBeal pushed a button on her phone, asking the office administrator to bring her the necessary paperwork and contracts. Nik, with a knowing glance towards Mykola and Sheridan, politely asked for the restroom.

Shortly thereafter the blonde who had been working at the front desk came in, a polite smile for the team as she laid the paperwork on Ally's desk, nearly running into Nik as she left. The roguish gentleman stepped aside to let her pass, meeting Mykola's eyes with an almost imperceptible nod before taking is place at the international arms dealer's side.
OOC:
*Sigh* ... the DR still really loves Nik. Both Sheridan and Mykola can be almost 100% confident that Nik has pilfered a card key. And since there didn't seem to be any sort of disturbance you could assume successfully without notice.

Security - It was noticed that there are cameras in the parking deck, corridors, elevators, and (could be assumed in the stairwells).
No cameras in the law offices. There is/was an alarm panel for the law office and a casual look would indicate motion sensors (so standard security alarm system basically). Door to get into the law office (at least the storefront entrance you came through) was card key access locks while the individual offices are standard keyed locks.

Sheridan did his best to remain stoic as Nik did what he did well. Looking down at the hat in his hands, he ran his thumb along the brim.

"Actually, while we are here," he said, "Just out of curiosity. How many cases involving potentially problematic ex-girlfriends do you get?"

He held up a hand, "You don't have to go into any details, just a rough estimate would be okay."

The striking lawyer looked up from where she was reviewing the paperwork to push back a few loose strands of blonde hair from her face as she met the stoic bodyguard with an amused smile, "Well this is Miami ... so I would say a majority of our cases deal with crazy ex-girlfriends."

A moment passes...

"Okay, quick follow up: how many of those ex-girlfriends were..." a tilt of the head back and forth as he considered his wording, "military contractors, either currently or previously, and were potentially using... shenaniganry?"

The smile slipped a bit from her face, her eyes narrowing slightly in seriousness, "I am not at liberty to discuss our clients nor their cases with others, but I assure you ... we would most certainly be able to handle any sort of trouble."

She returned to her review of the paperwork, the few loose strands of blonde hair falling back in their previous place in front of her face as she added, "We wouldn't have our reputation otherwise."

Sheridan nodded his head.

"Of course, of course, silly of me to ask," he worked his hat around in his hand, his voice trailing off as he looked around, "I'm sure my buddy's just trying to get me all paranoid or som'thin'."

He cleared his throat, and looked over Mickey's shoulder.

"Hey, so is that all lookin' good?" he stage whispered out the side of his mouth.

After a knowing smirk from Nik in confirmation of his success and a polite 'Thank you for your time' and a 'We'll be in touch' the small band of would be thieves returned to their Cover House - Nik twirling the pilfered access card across the fingers of his hand in an almost sort of bragging manner.

"Don't strain your arm," Nadya quipped flirtatiously, her mouth quirking in a small smirk, "Patting yourself on the back."

The international thief snorted in amusement, his long hair shaking with the effort as he expertly stashed the card away, "So ... what now?"
OOC:
Yay! Hopefully we're back and can get back into a groove.

I think it would be safe to say that the team has the afternoon to plan and easily enough time to procure any supplies they may think will be required.

Mykola chimed in, "I think we stake the place out, wait until everyone is gone and go back in ourselves, disguised, business like. To anyone watching, we are just junior associates burning the midnight oil to make an impression on the higher ups. Once we are inside, you guys can search through files, print-outs, notes, whatever you can find. Using an inside line, I'll break into their computer system and see what I can find there."
OOC:

Mykola will work on disguises for everyone. He's less concerned with clothing and more concerned with faces.

On the way out of the building, he'll take note of some of the other employees in the office. Probably make up Nik to look like one of the law clerks, someone that won't be questions if found looking through files.

He'll soften up the texture on Mykola's skin, put a black wig on over the grey "hair", probably add a heavy 5 o'clock shadow.

Dozer's beard will be trimmed short, dyed solid black, probably add an old, faint scar on his left cheek, lost the beanie, put him in a bald cap.

Those sorts of things.
