Population & Military

OOC:
There were a few errors in the way I was calculating population. Here's the current and correct numbers. I'm just going to update this here instead of updating each individual page. Keep in mind, population has no effect mechanically. These numbers also don't have to mean that this is how big your city is. These are people living under lands that are under your control. These numbers will fluctuate, so you do not have to keep them exactly.
Approximate Population of the Covenant Lands

ASHEN EMPIRE...........1,814,000 - Fallen Empire, Superpower
TELOCHIAN EMPIRE.......1,227,000 - Fallen Empire, Superpower
CLOUDSPIRE.............1,103,000 - Fallen Empire, Superpower
NEW ZAANGORIA..........1,029,000
IRON ORCS................857,000
ELEVEN MARCHES...........826,000
MALGERI DIRECTIVE........784,000
DRACALIS.................708,000
SEA OF GRASS.............579,000
OBSIDIAN ORCS............565,000
UNILITH..................541,000
LEAGUE CITIES............517,000
RIVELLESK................305,000
VALTHERIA................264,000
OSZETH...................187,000
SHADY SANDS...............35,000

MILITARY
Having a military takes a lot of support, so even if you're a very militaristic culture, your population can't just walk to battle. Someone has to stay and make sure the food keeps flowing, weapons keep being maintained and repaired, etc.

- If you're keep only a small, swiss-style, professional army, you can have 1% of your population in your military. You'll gain a free reroll on one military engagement per week.
- If you're a feudal society, you can have 2% of your population in your military. You'll roll one extra die when using your military at home.
- If you have a centralized state, you can have 3% of your population in your military. You roll two extra dice when defending your capital.
- If you're a superpower (one of the biggest three nations and actively participating in RP with your neighbors) 4% of your population is probably in your military. You can deploy half your military twice in one week, as long as the provinces are adjacent.
- If you're a fallen empire (Ashen Empire, Cloudspire, United Teloch), it's 5%. You can deploy all your military twice in one week, as long as the provinces are adjacent. Currently, only the Ashen Empire has this designation.

oh, don't forget to update the populations in the factbooks

I'm just going to keep it here, I think. If you guys want to update your factbooks, that's fine. I'll eventually delete it out of there.

Oh, okay!

Is the number of armies still related to the workforce/cities?

It would seem like I could have, for example 469,000 * 0.01% = 46,9 people in my army, which wouldn't even be 1 in-game army

The numbers in this thread are just general guidelines, but the numbers in the rules are just examples anyway, showing that the numbers don't need to be the same for everyone. As far as how many military unites you get, that's not changing. Here's what it's meant to be, and if you can think of better wording, just let me know!

Your population is 469,000. That means that if you want a professional army, you have 4,690 soldiers. You control your capital (3) and one other city (1), so you have 4 units, or approximately 1,200 men per unit. It doesn't have to be exactly that, or it could be that only some of those are actual fighters with the rest being supply and support, etc.

EDIT: I had forgotten to remove the decimal points when converting to percentages, so sorry, I'll go back to second grade now.

The Superpowers currently are Malgeri Directive, Iron Orcs, and New Zaangoria, right?

I guess the more logical option of the marches would be a small, swiss-style, professional army for now

a free reroll on one military engagement per week!!good by terminus :D

If so, I'm not very clear about what the new rules entail in relation to the previous one.

The current superpowers are the Ashen Empire, Cloudspire, and the Iron Orcs. It's always the top three Nations up for consideration there, so right now two fallen enough

It's probably not long before you guys surpass them though. When that happens, here's how that ability works.

Say you have ten military. You expand to a province for away from your capital, that takes five. You can normally do that twice before your army is expenses for that turn. With the ability in question, however, you can redeploy five of those armies elsewhere. They're no longer in that province, so there might be unrest there if it's not developed, but you can use those five armies again.

While discussing things with RoAries, it occurred to me that I hadn't updated population for development correctly; I'd only been tracking expansion. With that being said, the numbers above are updated. I've also put them in population order so it's easier to tell who the superpowers are.
