Character Creation

This is where we will work together on character creation. We'll try to work in as much as possible of what you wrote in the interest check thread but don't get too attached to the particulars of your individual backstories yet, as those may change in the process of fleshing out your connections to the world and the other party members.

Some helpful links:
• Character creation guidelines are here.
• Here is a sample character sheet you can use as a formatting template.

Would it be ok to play a human with the elven traits ? (having detect magic as a cantrip instead of choosing a clerical spell).
I could see it as something in his mind was unlocked the firs time he read his old tome...

My wizard his a linguist specialized in lost languages. He learned his magic in one of the old god-pharaoh's spellbook...

You can make up your own names.

Halfling druid submitted. I have a picture for avatar.

What animals would be native to the desert? And what other animals would I have seen.

So my elf ranger is based on the Aiel from the Wheel of Time and I thought this was an appropriate portrait.

I think I'm going to go with a dog as my companion and I'll try and get my character sheet together by the end of the weekend.

Whats everyone's thoughts on how long the group has know each other. It might be nice to start a game with a group that knows each other instead of having to role-play each of our introductions.

Here's the beauty of a system like DW - and this may be strange to some of you: You get to tell me what animals are native to the desert. Give me 2 creatures (even made-up ones) and I will make up a special ability or Move that you can do when in that form (for which you spend "hold"). Here, I'll give you your first form:

Desert scorpion

Special ability: Envenom (costs 1 hold)
Effect: When you pierce an enemy with your stinger, in addition to dealing your damage, the target takes 1 poison damage that ignores armor. If you roll 12+ on your attack, the poison deals 2 damage instead.

Jana looks great! Just a few notes:

Please put the modifiers next to your stats - it'll make it easier for you when you roll your moves. It would also be helpful to have the names of the moves on your sheet rather than just the descriptions.

Alignment: Good - Help something or someone grow.

You're missing a bunch of gear.

Your Wizard is looking great so far as well, @deadpool! Don't forget to assign your stats. Keep in mind that as a wizard, your maximum HP is 4+Constitution score (not constitution modifier).

Off to research animals. And I will get the gear and stuff done.

Is it the same with gear load (load=7+str) ?

Nope, with HP calculation as the only exception, when a stat is mentioned that means your stat modifier.

Machiabelly, I have modified your scorpion form's Envenom ability (see above). "Ongoing damage" doesn't work in DW because there are no combat rounds in this system (I'll explain that some more when we get to combat).

Checking avatar.

Also, other two animals...red tailed hawk (flight and/or good eye sight). And Armadillo(digging and/or armour)

How are everyone's character sheets coming along?

Everyone: Did you grow up in this wasteland, or did you come here from someplace else? If the former, how have you survived? If the latter, what drew you here?

Fighter: Describe your signature weapon. Did you forge it yourself, or did you come to have it some other way?

Describe your fighting style. In what ways is it beautiful and strange?

Druid: To those without the eyes to see, this land is dead. But you know otherwise - the desert is alive. When you help things grow here, describe how it is beautiful and strange.

Ranger: How does your clan find water?

How did you and your animal companion meet? Did you raise him/her as a cub? Did s/he come to you in the wilderness? Is she an actual animal, or a spirit of some sort? Describe this supernatural bond you share with your companion. In what way is it beautiful and strange?

Wizard: There is a place of power in the desert that only you know. Describe it.

It's not a place, in his spellbook, Akh (that's his name now. It means "Intelligence" in egyptian) found a passage describing a long ritual where you had to draw a complex series of patterns on the floor using your own blood.... He has not tried it...yet...
