Note: The rules have a plot point campaign that assumes the players have already met Solomon Kane and are now Wanderers. The campaign starts in Devon, England. If everyone is okay with this scenario, it may be the best intro taste of what SW: SK is meant to be.

You roll: 1d4-2,1d6-2

The -2 applies to both the unskilled dice roll and the Wild dice

Untrained skills are 1d4-2 unless it's like magic without a background edge, those you can't roll since you don't know magic. Oh for the wild die the -2 applies as well, I guess if you get a Joker in combat though the +2 cancels out that penalty.

Looks like Gerald picked a seasoned character's edge so he can't use it. Otherwise the Combat Reflexes edge would allow him to gain +2 to his spirit roll now that he rolled shaken on the fright table.

Oh noes, I didn't double check the prerequisites. Right, so I'll allow you to pick another and apply it immediately, but Combat Reflexes won't apply.

A dog would be an obvious choice for Renaissance Europe, but if you wanted it to be a wolf or a fox or a lynx that would work well in the country, maybe less so in towns.

Praise God (awsmack) was a holy type

A prior character (somebox) was a sorcerer, and that worked well

These last two encounters in Solomon Kane have turned out to be more difficult than any of the prior ones. It could be due to a party of horribly unoptimized characters, haha. It's sort of a combat oriented storyline, but that's really only now becoming crucial.

I may have made a mistake by playing a 60+ year old man. He needs to be better at combat, but I really don't want to increase his physical stats because that's just weird for someone at his age.

I just wanted to make a post so that I can give you all a heads-up. I am currently living in a not-so-great situation and stuck with my ex-wife. My current living situation is one of near-constant verbal abuse and it is making my depression spike terribly. This is affecting my will to post consistently. I want to apologize in advance for a lack of posting that may occur from time to time. I am working right now on getting into a new living situation that will be much healthier for me.

Hey Qralloq, was curious why you chose Solomon Kane as the setting to play in vs. other similar settings (Rippers, Accursed, etc). Fan of the author/character/etc?

I really didn't think I'd be digging the setting that much, a bit too dark and serious, but have grown to enjoy it over time. Kudos to you sir.

Also, is the Righteous Rage rule in play for this setting?

I used to read Conan mags back in the day and they'd always have a shorter story in the back. Sometimes another Conan tale, sometimes Kull the Conqueror, and sometimes Solomon Kane. I loved the SK ones the most. Later, I read the actual stories Howard wrote.

So when Windyridge mentioned in Discord she was interested in a Solomon Kane game, I leapt into action.

Seeing the game in play, I'm loving it too. We are occasionally very slow to post, and that often wanes my interest, but the ambiance and theme are great. I'm glad it's coming across in the game.

Righteous Rage should be in effect. I don't always remember it.

Just fyi, Improvised weapons, -1 to throw and fighting, and -1 to parry, unless you have the improvisational fighter edge.

Absolutely. Also, like Remnant, feel free to imagine the environment as you will. There is an open Iron maiden, and torture devices strewn about. But if you want something appropriate to a torture dungeon, assume it's there and nearby.

Summary
You found a girl being kidnapped by soldiers. After rescuing her, you took her to her father's house and find out that for several years, young girls have been taken to the nearby castle and never returning. Everyone is terrified of The Devils Mistress, though you've found out little specifically about her.

You went to the castle, lead by the girl's father. In order to enter you had to leave your weapons. With some trepidation, you did so, and once inside, your were quickly captured.you've been taken to the dungeon where your deaths were ordered by a beautiful woman. You are now fighting for your lives, with no weapons. However, you're in a torture chamber, so feel free to embellish your environment. Two of the four guards have been killed, and Gavrel is up!
