The Swordsman

I have started individual threads for each of the PCs. While we will retain the shared Character Creation thread for discussing the characters a a group, I intend the individual threads to serve as a place to talk about character development as the story progresses. In addition to game mechanics progression, we can talk about your personal story arc here. Where would you like to see your character go? What will they discover and achieve, and how will they change? That sort of thing.

The Swordsman, "a man with no name," has a past that he's running towards (or away from). (played by SJoyner72)
Jabes.plays.RPG says:
Everyone: Did you grow up in this wasteland, or did you come here from someplace else? If the former, how have you survived? If the latter, what drew you here?

Fighter: Describe your signature weapon. Did you forge it yourself, or did you come to have it some other way?

Describe your fighting style. In what ways is it beautiful and strange?
SJoyner72 says:
The Swordsman came across the Sword of Vengeance in an ancient tomb of a long forgotten warrior (how he came to arrive there is a tale for another day). The sword looks ancient beyond years with its weathered and pitted blade, though looks are deceiving, for it is uncannily sharp and it cuts deep, leaving gaping wounds. The worn handle is of an exotic wood, and the heavy round pommel bears indecipherable hieroglyphs etched in its surface. The cross guard is a simple curve made of the same strange metal as the blade.

The Swordsman's fighting style is 'beautiful' only in that it is brutally efficient. An observer would perhaps see the Swordsman's style as strange in that there are times when it appears that the sword itself is making the attacks or parries as he fights.
Jabes.plays.RPG says:
Swordsman, describe the event (or chain of events) that led to you swearing an oath to protect Akh. Is Akh or anyone else aware of this vow?
SJoyner72 says:
It was with Akh that the Swordsman first delved into the forgotten tomb. Akh was searching for ancient lore and legends, the Swordsman was a caravan guard at the time. Nearly the entire party were killed by the stone construct guardians of the tomb. The Swordsman with his ancient blade and Akh fought their way back to the surface. Bleeding from a dozen wounds, the Swordsman fell into darkness and awoke days later in an oasis, having been saved by the wizard.
Machiabelly says:
The Wizard and Swordsman were found and taken to my family oasis. They were blindfolded to protect the location. Jana keeps this location a secret from the swordsman.

BONDS

I have sworn to protect Akh.

I worry about the ability of Soro to survive in the dungeon.

Jana is soft, but I will make them hard like me.

The Swordsman appeared in the wastelands having been a caravan guard travelling from Qing'lai. Few questions were asked of him for desperate merchants always needed warm bodies with a weapon to accompany their wagon trains and protect them from the frequent bandit raids, or worse.

It was in Al-Ealee an ancient walled trading settlement clustered around three lush oases, that the Swordsman found frequent work. Sometimes as a guard, others as hired muscle. He did not care who employed him, or for what, only that he received coin for his sometimes bloody tasks. It was late at night in a seedy tavern, that the Swordsman encountered a foolhardy adventurer named Galtor Azem, who hired him on to the fateful expedition to the Tomb of the Forgotten Warrior. Galtor and all the others perished, all except Akh and the Swordsman.

Why is the Sword of Vengeance so named? Did you dub it thus, or is this its true name? If the former, what made you choose that name? If the latter, how did you learn it?

What makes it so special? What sets it apart from all the other weapons you've wielded?

The sword if vengeance was so named because it had hieroglyphics on the brass hilt that spelled out "vengeance." That word was the only one decipherable.

Akh read the hieroglyphics to the Swordsman. He won the sword in the tomb they had explored prior to this adventure. The weapon is special because it seems to almost thrum with its own life and move of its own accord when he is wielding it.

He feels connected to the weapon, almost as if it calls to him.

How does it feel to be without your weapon now? Is this the first time you've been apart? Do you ache for it? Does it call to you? (In fact, when you had it, did it whisper to you in the dark, or during battle?)

Do you want to create a backstory for the weapon that the Swordsman at present is unaware of? Or do you prefer to leave it to me? I prefer the former, but don't mind the latter.

He misses the sword, almost like he has lost a limb. He felt that during battle it almost moved of its own accord.

I will work on a backstory for the sword but Wont be able to do so until Thursday. Im traveling for work.

No rush! Take your time with it. I want this story to be something worthy of the greatest swordsman in the world!
