I like CJ Carrella's modern occult setting. It's about magic getting stronger and stronger in the world, with a great change called Armageddon looming on the horizon. It won't necessarily destroy Earth and humanity, though probably many will die.
Proof of this is that there were several Armageddons in history, when magic levels peaked, and we're still here.
There are a number of supernatural styles and supposed bigger players described (the Wicca, Rosicrucians, Strom Dragons, Templars, etc.), but any style of supernatural ability and group is valid.
Generally speaking, most human-friendly groups try to delay the Armageddon by keeping the masses ignorant, to better prepare for it and the defense of humanity. However, there are some who do the opposite, or just don't care about anything else but personal power and gratification.
FATE Core is a generic, creative and simple system, easily custom-tailored for almost any setting. And it's legally free.
Learning from my previous attempt with Dune, I won't leave things so open and undefined, but will give some story and group concepts to choose from, and anyone will be welcome to throw in their own ideas.
We'll probably start after the holidays, but I wanted to see if I should gather ideas and put effort into this.
Are there people interested in a game like this?
Edit:
The WitchCraft core book is also legally free.
