Kylie waits for one of the professional security services based agents to lead the way, but she makes sure her weapon is free and clear in case it is needed.
Oct 23, 2019 6:59 pm
Kirby makes his way up the stairs, He rubs his eyes and thinks to himself And here i thought the weird days were behind me...
Oct 23, 2019 11:18 pm
Gun in hand, King flanked Kirby as they went up to the top floor. "Check every room?"
Oct 24, 2019 4:44 pm
"Lets check the top and work our way down perhaps post one of us at the bottom of each stair just incase."
Oct 24, 2019 5:36 pm
Karl draws his own weapon and nods. "Check the top first. I think we should stay together as much as we can. Each room we check, someone can stay out in the hall and watch our backs, but separating sounds like a bad idea to me."
Oct 24, 2019 5:43 pm
"Agreed, I just don't want someone to slip down the stairs to get out incase something goes down."
Oct 24, 2019 6:03 pm
"I'll hang back. I'm a trained marksman if you need backup, but not so good at clearing a room."
Oct 25, 2019 1:20 am
"Right, Kirby and I will do each room in turn. Karl along the hall, and Kylie at the staircase landing. Unbroken visual contact with each other always."
Oct 25, 2019 1:16 pm
The agents get into formation to sweep the building from the top down. They follow the staircase up, from the ground level to the first floor... then to the second floor...
The second floor is the highest any of the agents (Kirby and King) have been so far in the building. The staircase continues up another story, running up to a landing with a closed door on it.

Oct 25, 2019 2:31 pm
"See, there's no fourth level!" King hissed, trying to reconcile the conflicting information about rooms upstairs, and building layouts, and missing floors. "Ready to open this door when you are."
Oct 25, 2019 4:35 pm
Kirby posts up one the door opposite King and attempts to breach the opening.
OOC:
if the knob don't turn i'll kick it down.Oct 28, 2019 2:25 pm
OOC:
So to be clear, there's no door "opposite" the one King is at. This door isn't in a hallway, it's in the stairwell at the top of the landing. OOC:
What do you do?Oct 28, 2019 2:59 pm
"See what I mean? It's a bloody roof!" King stormed out onto the roof, knowing that it didn't tally with what he thought he understood about the building layout. Lighting another cigarette to calm himself down, he began to slowly search the roof for clues, since he was already up there.
Oct 28, 2019 6:28 pm
OOC:
no there probably could have been a comma there to separate, i was basically gonna be on the other side of the door opposite king Oct 31, 2019 3:15 pm
"Nobody has been up here for a long time." King pointed out the garbage lying around. "These have been here for a couple of years, look at their expiration dates. Note also nothing expires past April this year. Everything is years old."
Oct 31, 2019 6:00 pm
"Er, does anyone live on the roof? " she asks lamely. She looks around keeping extra eyes behind them.
Oct 31, 2019 11:22 pm
"Nope, looks exactly like a roof. Nothing hidden underneath tiles, no secret exits that I can find, no signs of anyone having lived here. Nothing."

OOC:
What do you do next? Clear rooms? Check out the other residents? Retreat and regroup and revisit the evidence you have so far? Do some research? Perhaps this is obvious wisdom, I know you are all experienced players, but these types of investigations are a little different from more adventure-oriented games. You guys are on track. If you feel like you're at a dead end in terms of actions you can take, get out there and get more intel.

OOC:
I've mentioned earlier that King suggested they do some daytime investigation on the various residents, what their backgrouds are, whether they have been behaving weirdly. The neighbourhood might also be worth snooping about, to see who's been going in and out of the building. Our agent outside might be able to fill us in on all that. But first, some sleep!

OOC:
Everyone ready to regroup and get some rest? What's everyone's plan for lodging?Nov 4, 2019 3:33 pm
"I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not from around here. I'll need to crash in a hotel."
Nov 4, 2019 7:08 pm
"Racking out does seem like a good idea. Grab a few hours and meet back here say 1300?" Kirby adds as he and King regroup.
Nov 4, 2019 7:58 pm
Karl runs his hand over his head and sighs. "I'm dead on my feet. I could use some rest myself."
He looks over at King and nods. "Likewise," he says, and includes the others in his next statement. "Might not be a bad idea for any of us hitting a hotel to stay at the same place."
His uncertain expression, made so much more obvious thanks to lack of sleep, practically screams, just in case more weird shit goes down.

Kylie says, "My apartment is in Queens, but I don't have beds for all of you. Or any of you really. You're welcome to crash on the floor."
Nov 5, 2019 3:06 pm
"Thanks for the offer, but if it's all the same to you, I figure we'll get better rest on a proper bed, and a proper bath too. Nothing like what you Americans call showers. You coming?" He looked to Karl, and then acknowledged Kirby. "Make it 2pm."
Nov 5, 2019 5:31 pm
Karl nods. "Yeah," he says to King, and adds to Kylie with a wry smile, "I'm about 20 years too old to sleep on the floor without waking up as a big, groaning pile of aches and pains. But thanks."

OOC:
Sorry for the downtime - past 2 weeks I've been running 14 hour long days. Getting back on my bullshit over the next couple of days. So: Kirby, King, and Karl to a hotel? Kylie heading home, or joining them? Are you taking the box of evidence with you or leaving it at the apartment? If taking it, who's taking it?
Nov 12, 2019 6:13 pm
OOC:
I say evidence left in the room. Come back and continue. And yup, hotel for King.Nov 12, 2019 6:15 pm
OOC:
I'm reluctant to leave evidence anywhere that's not secure. I'd like to take it with us, personally.Nov 12, 2019 6:31 pm

Sure, let's do it. I'll bet we get bad dreams. :D Last edited November 12, 2019 6:31 pm

Wouldn't we all be "local" agents? meaning we live within the area? in theory wouldn't we all have home we could easly access?however if there is a hotel nearby for quick access i would vote for that.
As for evidence, i would agree to take it with us.
Nov 12, 2019 9:32 pm
OOC:
I don't think we're all local. At least, I built my character as being from Chicago.Nov 18, 2019 4:44 pm
The non-local Agents find a cheap, 2-star hotel a few blocks away from the apartment called Hotel 31, and take the evidence with them until they meet back up with Kylie in the afternoon. Kylie heads back to her Queens apartment. All the agents are ready for a bit of shuteye.
Anyways - shall we cut to the agents reconvening at the Macallistar in the afternoon? Or is there anything you'd like to do aside from rest up in the meantime?
OOC:
I'd recommend at some point tracing back through the Log to see what evidence you've collected so far. No pressure to do so before returning to the Macallistar Building (or like ever), but you guys pulled a lot out of that initial search of the apartment.Anyways - shall we cut to the agents reconvening at the Macallistar in the afternoon? Almost positive you haven't yet, Cave - if anyone has, it'd likely be Karl or Kylie though I don't think they have yet.Basically, your breaking point equals your starting SAN minus POW (for example, if your starting POW is 12, you start with 60 SAN and your breaking point is 48). When you hit your breaking point, you take on a new disorder and reset your breaking point to your current SAN minus POW.

OOC:
OH! thats an actual thing :D i was joking... so no thats a solid nope for meNov 19, 2019 4:53 pm
OOC:
Just checked - no one is there yet. Karl is the closest, I think. He had a rough time in that apartment. Anyhow, no one went temporarily insane at any point, and no one has taken on a new disorder, so you're all able to get to sleep without issue and get the equivalent of a full night's rest.
Everyone regains 1D6 WP, up to your maximum.

Ball is fully in your court, what's the plan?Nov 19, 2019 4:58 pm
"Ohh! Man that was an awkward day. So anyone got any ideas today?" Kirby comes in fully dressed for the occasion this time.

Karl stands outside the Macallistar building, looking mostly rested. He's dressed like an extra in a crime procedural drama: FBI Agent #3, or some nonsense. "I'm not sure how we're going to do it, but that script keeps coming back to mind. I'd like to see if we can get to the bottom of what it means.
He looks around to the others. "Any other opinions?"

Kylie shows back there with her old model Mercerdes, despite many hours of contemplating finding something less insane to do with her time.

"I agree we should check for a basement, and revisit the entire set of room and building numbers. I also think we should do some old fashioned legwork. Let's hit the surrounding neighbourhood, ask about the tenants of this building, whether they've been seen recently, what did they buy or do. Or call their employers. Remember the foyer and the letter boxes look like no one's bothered to collect their mail." King reappeared in his usual suit ensemble, already puffing on a cigarette.

There is a basement - a door is accessible from the front of the building, down a flight of stairs to a lower recess beneath the stoop. [ +- ] Front of Building - "You Are Here"

Proposed courses of action:
-Check out basement
-Revisit rooms/room numbers
-Ask around neighborhood about tenants
-Research tenants (call employers, etc)
Who's going to do what?

Oh, I have a whole legit map. I haven't posted it yet bc of **secrets** but perhaps I can sneakily edit them out. I'll see what I can do - I agree, having a floor plan of the home would be a boon for you guys.Nov 20, 2019 6:38 pm

Yep. Edited it. Sorry I didn't do this years ago. Added it to the very first post in the log as well.[ +- ] Macallistar Building Layout

LOL I never even noticed that! From the scenario as written: "Each bathroom has an old-fashioned hammered-tin ceiling and most have a toilet and claw-foot bathtub placed where it was most expedient for a water hook-up."
It's an old building ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. That's all I'll say for now. Perhaps there's more to be learned.

"Let's have a look at the basement first. I want to tally up all the floors and rooms."
Nov 21, 2019 2:23 pm
That was my idea, Kylie gulps. "I brought a flashlight but with our luck they won't work, or all quit at the same time."
