002.3 Calling Home

"The name you have chosen? I named you when I gave birth to you. You are Manfred William Cavendish, named after your father and his father before him. I shall call you by your birth name." She ignores his verbal pokes and jabs.

"You know the new Vice President. She was all too eager to accept the position." Elizabeth stares at Will's holographic projection now, certain that this will get a reaction.

" Her name is Amanda Smythe-Davies, your fiance."

While she enjoys his reaction or his attempt at hiding his reaction, she makes one last statement before disconnecting.

"She'll be arriving in the morning. Do take care of her, darling."

And with that, she ends the transmission.

"You're not sending her in here!" Will yells at his mother, but she's already gone.

He looks at Veronica. "Of course," he says, exasperated. "My mother is the one helping my fiance get inside the QZ."

"We've got to keep her outside," he says to Veronica. "Can you think of any way to do that?"

"I could hack things so the police hold her. I would try to convince her not to come in here with you but she logged out. She isnt in the system now."

"No, no... I don't want her held by the police."

Will paces back and forth. "My mother did this on purpose. She's up to something, Veronica. I don't know what, but it's something she knows I won't like. What is she planning? Why does she need us both in here?"

Given her history, Will is positive she has something up her sleeve, some trick that will undermine something he worked on or somehow give her the upper hand in something on which they disagreed. Was it something in his division? Did she have some secret project that he had been getting close to, something he might have been close to uncovering? The truth was, he had no idea what she was up to.

"I'm going to have to try to get into her files. I need to know what she's up to. But I don't want anyone to trace it back to you or me."

Give me some time. Your mother was able to get into my systems too easily with her call. It shook me up a bit. I will help you though William were best friends after all. Veronica smiled trying to overcome her feelings of vulnerability.
