So I was hesitant to post this here, cuz it's an example of machines taking our jerbs! but it seemed just too right-up-everyone-here's alley not to.

AI Dungeon 2 is a completely AI generated text adventure built with OpenAI's largest GPT-2 model. It's a first of it's kind game that allows you to enter a unique gameworld and will react to any action you can imagine and type in...

I'm just about to dive into my first go of it, but have seen a lot of hilarious and cool accounts of stories created.

I just tried it. I encountered some wolf creature and tried to give him my helmet. Instead, he gave me his which was supposed to help me breathe better - twice. I tried to destroy the helmet but instead, the wolf threw it into the air and it got struck by lightning. When I asked him how he did that, the game froze.

10/10, better than any real GM I've ever played with

Won't work for me at all.
Dec 17, 2019 6:31 pm
LOL!

Well at least you got it to work... I'm on mobile and my first dive hasn't had the chance to happen yet...

The mobile app isn't working, and it seems like the process you have to go through to get it to work in your browser (GitHub block downloads?) is... either taking A LONG time, or hanging and not working at all.

Read around and it seems like they're had some hosting cost issues with it's popularity and it's future is in question.

The app didn't work for me either. I managed to get the online version to work but not for long
Dec 17, 2019 6:34 pm
Sorry for the false alarm... seriously though, read around about some of the reviews and "adventures" ppl did manage to have before it crapped the bed.

Looks like it WAS awesome... hopefully they get it going again somehow.

The app did end up working for me, sort of... Was able to log in and start stories, but haven't gotten one to go more than 2 or 3 "actions" before getting some sort of error...

Just had a pretty good go at it... The entries after the '>' is me, everything else is the AI.

You are Rhovan, a rogue living in
the kingdom of Larion. You have a
long steel dagger and a length of
rope. You walk down the city
street looking for somehwere to
steal from. You look around and
see nothing interesting. The
streets are empty and
quiet.

Suddenly you hear a cry go up from
the rooftops. It is a woman's
voice crying out for help. You
turn your head and see a group of
men standing on top of an
apartment building.

> I climb the building with my
rope!

You quickly grab onto the rope as
it goes up. You pull yourself up
as fast as you can and then swing
yourself over the edge. As soon as
you land you take off running.

As you run you notice that there
are several guardsmen chasing
after you.

> Rescue the woman who screamed.

You jump into the air and swing
yourself towards one of the
guardsmen. He swings his sword at
you but misses completely. You hit
him hard in the face and he falls
backwards.

> Disappear into the shadows.

You vanish into the shadows and
hide behind a wall. Suddenly you
feel a sharp pain in your back.
You try to stand up but fall back
again. You continue to crawl along
the ground until you find a small
hole in the dirt and crawl through
it.

> Drink a healing potion.

You slip into the hole and sink
your teeth into the healing
potion. You gulp it down and begin
to heal yourself. Soon you feel
better than ever.

You look around and see that you
are now in a large garden.

> Wait until the guardsmen have
passed by.

You wait until the guardsmen have
passed by before diving into the
garden. You swim under the water
and hide in the bushes. You wait
until they pass by and then dive
back out.

You emerge from the bushes and see
a man dressed in white carrying a
staff.

> "Greetings... who are you?"

You approach the man in white and
ask him who he is. He tells you
that he is called Zalmora and that
she has come to thank you for
saving her life. She says that she
was attacked by bandits and you
saved her.

> "You are welcome. What is my
reward?"

Zalmora smiles and tells you that
she will give you a small amount
of gold if you let her join you on
your journey. She asks you what
your reward should be.

> "Teach me magic."

You smile and tell Zalthat you
would like to learn more about
magic. She agrees and tells you
that she will teach you everything
she knows. She gives you a small
pouch containing a few coins.

> Take the pouch, and learn an
invisibility spell.

You open the pouch and take out
the money. You put it in your
pocket and then cast the
invisibility spell. You disappear
from sight.

> "Follow me, Zalmora!"

You follow Zalmora into the forest
where you both start walking away
from each other. You don't know
why you are doing this, but you do
it. You both keep walking until
you reach a clearing. There sits a
large tree which has branches
reaching all the way to the sky.

> "What do you know about this
tree, Zalmora?"

Zalmora looks at you and then
turns to look at the tree. She
points to it and says "This is the
Tree of Life"

> Take some leaves from the Tree
of Life and put them in my pocket.

You take some leaves from the Tree
of Life and place them in your
pocket. Then you hold up your hand
and the leaves float into your
palm. You throw the leaves into
the air and they form into a ring.
You hold the ring above your head
and you feel a tingling sensation.

> "I think I can see the future!?"

You shout excitedly and point to
the tree. Zalmora nods and tells
you that you are right. You both
watch as the leaves slowly move
from the tree to you. They fly
past your eyes and onto the ground
below. You laugh and clap your
hands together.

> Take Zalmora's hands and chant a
ritual spell.

You take Zalmora's hands and chant
a simple spell. A bright light
appears and the trees around you
become invisible. You look up and
see that the sun is shining
brightly. You walk forward and see
that the forest is no longer
visible.

> "Where are we?

You look around and see that you
are in a castle. You recognize it
as the one you grew up in. You
also recognize the door leading
inside as the one you used to use
when you were little.

> "Is this a dream? Have we
traveled into the past? Or... the
future?"

You look around and see that you
are in a room filled with
bookshelves. On the far wall hangs
a portrait of a young girl holding
a book. You recognize her as your
mother. You also recognize the
fireplace as the one you used to
play in as a child.

> "Zalmora, I remember now!
There's a magic ring buried here!"

You look around and see that the
room is filled with bookshelves.
On the far wall hangs a portrait
of a young boy playing with a toy
carpenter's hammer. You recognize
him as your father. You also
recognize the fireplace as the one
you used to cook food.

> Search the fireplace for the
magic ring.

You search the fireplace and find
a ring. You pick it up and pull it
up. You carefully examine it and
find a small piece ofThe ring.

> Give the ring to Zalmora.

I guess Zalmora didn't like the ring!

That's brilliant!

That plot twist in the end!!!

Ha! Yes...

I was really surprised it created an NPC that seemed to stick with me. I hadn't really seen that on the adventures of others I'd read.
Dec 18, 2019 3:07 pm
I CAN do that, Dave.

Zalmora, briefly known as Zalthat ;)

Also, initially a man...

But she was Z-all-that and a bag of chips!

Apparently Zalmora is gender fluid, too:

this raises a lot of interesting questions... Maybe they will be answered in the second session?
