OOC:
It now seems we have Monte, Collie, Doc, John, Vivian, and Roland (with Oliver nearby...his cat) at the same table. Conversing about maybe what brought you all here and whatnot. Please proceed as you wish, I might go ahead and move us along shortly. Just a heads up! :)

Roland, whose been halfheartedly listening, his attention fixated on his grub, decidedlypipes in.

"Well I don't know much about machines like thems they have serving us or fighting us really. I just know anythings been turned on has a surefire way of being turned off. I reckon it can't be much harder n' rassling them big gators down south."

For a moment Roland consider this comparison.

"In any case I ain't got nothing 'gainst no hunk a metal. I'm just looking for something new out west. Grown a bit tired of what I seen around these ends and I'd sooner put it all behind me. And heck I wouldn't say no to a little adventure."

As you lot are having breakfast and conversing Coppertop 5 enters the Mess Hall and approaches your table.

Addressing you as a group it says, "Good morning again recruits. I trust the breakfast is satisfying for you all. It is currently 8:30 AM and orientation is 1 hour from now. It will be held in the Headquarters building, in the main conference room. Please be on time so that we may properly register you. If you have any questions please find me or someone in uniform."

The cog turns to proceed out of the Mess Hall.
OOC:
QUESTION - Does anyone’s character have a time-keeping piece on them (i.e. pocket watch)? Just curious. No problems if someone wants to add that to their equipment...which we will soon finalize and all.
OOC:
You all have about an hour to kill in the compound. Let me know if you would like to visit any of the compound's buildings, carry on with some conversation, or whatever you all can think of, and we can go from there. :)

OOC:
I can add it to mine if need be. I can incorporate it into taking care of Oliver

OOC:
Sure. It was just an inquiry and a nitpicking thing just in case knowing the precise time needed justification. 👍

I don't think that Monte would have one of those, having a d8 in the Survival skill, I'd imagine he's generally accustomed to keeping track of the passage of the day by the use of the sun, moon, and the stars.
Jan 20, 2020 8:07 pm
OOC:
Indeed. Monte would definitely be able to tell time well with that level of skill.

"Thanks, kindly, Coppertop. We'll be right along shortly. You certainly are one informative marvel." Doc turns back to the group and makes small talk as he cleans his plate, deciding to make a quick trip by the quartermaster's to check on his two experimental devices before he shows up to the training barracks.

OOC:
The quartermaster's office would most likely be located in the Armory here as a room within the building. So the Armory is where Doc would head off to.
Doc makes his way to the Armory. It is a two-story building comprised of stone blocks with only a few barred windows. There is one guard posted outside the entrance of the Armory.

"Good morning Sir. What business brings you to the Armory?", the guard asks. He looks at you curiously. Possibly considiering that you're not in uniform and seemingly seeking entrance into the fortified building.

"Good morning, my good man. I'm one of those that came down to join up with the rangers. I turned over a couple of crates of valuable materials when I rode in and I was just hoping to check on them before I went off to the morning's orientation." Doc gives his best winning smile, trying to push down the concern that he has about the valuable equipment that he's brought with him. He hasn't slept in a building separate from them since the earliest prototypes and having them so far from him and not under his careful eye is eating at him slowly, even though he has no reason to suspect the rangers of foul play. Standing here in front of the guard, he wonders if he's started to develop an unhealthy connection with the devices, recalling the psychiatric theory of inanimate attachment that he'd learned in medical school, but quickly dismisses the thought.

"I'm sure they're in fine shape, but I just wanted to double check." He holds a hand out to shake and show that he's unarmed.
OOC:
Also, Doc Murph would definitely have a watch, a gold watch in fact. I looked back at deadlands and used that gear list to buy one of those as well as some tobacco and a pipe, and have adjusted my sheet to reflect those purchases. Let me know if that source isn't a good one and I'll adjust costs.

OOC:
The Deadlands sources are totally fine with this time period, etc.
The guard reaches out and shakes Doc's hand and looks him up and down curiously.
OOC:
Make me a Persuasion roll if you would. :)

Doc takes the hand confidently and gives it a steady shake, holding the guard's gaze as he does. "You folks have set up quite the installation here. I'm very impressed."

The guard proceeds with the handshake and says, "Well thank you, Sir. Let me go ahead and get you inside. Talk to Quartermaster Gilliard inside to check on your equipment. Have a good day."

He unlocks a large metal door with a key and opens up. Inside the large block building, you enter immediately into a hallway, a half-door (waist-high) to the right acts as a sort of entrance to a small office and directly ahead are more iron bars to proceed through. A gentleman steps up to the half-door. He is an older gentleman, greying hair, wears glasses that seem as much a part of his face as his nose. "Ehhhhh. You must be the Doc?"
Jan 22, 2020 2:04 am
"I am, indeed. Dr. Gregory Murphy, but Doc serves right well by my estimation. It's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance. Would you happen to be Quartermaster Gilliard? I was just hoping to check up on the devices I'd brought in with me before orientation if that isn't too much trouble."
Jan 22, 2020 2:08 am
"Yep, that's me. I'm Gilliard. I figured you'd be comin' by to check on those things. Mind you I didn't go snooping beyond the requirements of my duty. I just had...well, I had to make sure there wasn't nothin' threating about em'."

He walks out and towards the iron bars and pulls out a key attached to his waist belt. He unlocks there door.

"This way." He opens the door and heads in. He shows you over to a corner where you see your property in neat order.

"Have a look if you'd like Dr. Murphy. Everything is as it should be."

He waits for you to inspect.
Jan 22, 2020 4:09 am
Doc makes his way over to his crates and opens them to inspect the contents, paying special attention to the Galvanic coils and tesla dynamo to ensure their integrity, as well as the devices themselves. He cradles the coils in his hands carefully, holding them up to his ear to listen to the quiet hum that's ever present in a well-charged coil.

When he's satisfied that none have been damaged or tampered with he will stand and turn back to Gilliard, "Much obliged, sir. I greatly appreciate your care of these objects. I do hope they'll serve as prototypes for invaluable tools for our push across the Mississippi." He pulls his watch out and takes a look at it, "Oop, and with that I must take my leave, I'm afraid. Orientation waits for no man!"
Jan 22, 2020 4:11 am
"It's not a problem Doctor. Do take care to not be late. I suspect I'll be seein' ya soon."

He leads you out, locking up behind himself as you go.
