Episode 1 Scene 1c : The Arrival

Jan 14, 2020 6:06 am
Katsmon walks with Feliani and after opening the door for her leading out into the compound he talked as they walked back to the Village proper, "I can somewhat understand your reservations about the Oath but hopefully you will come to see its benefits. Prior to its enactment we had so many issues with this group not trusting that group who blamed another group for problems the village was having. It was all really just a major mess and folks constantly hurting on another. Shahadur wanted something more black and white, but we decided on something minimalistic in order to not be to authoritarian since that is not a place to govern from either. So what brought you all the way out to Far Reach?"
Jan 14, 2020 9:52 am
"I admit I have no doubts as to its benefits. I can see why it can work to stop potentially antagonistic factions from escalating into open fighting. Wouldn't it drive everything underground though? People working in shadows rather than openly? Most of the time I'd prefer seeing my enemy face to face than have a dagger in my back." Feliani was forthright in her thoughts. She appreciated that her view was respected, and no one had tried to kick up a fuss about the matter. She promised to herself that she'd keep the lawfulness in the back of her mind even as she considered staying on.

"Truth be told, I had no expectations of what I might find at Far Reach. The caravan assignment led me all the way here, and since that's done, and I hear that there is need here for stalwarts and defenders, I'm prepared to stay and lend my services, whether or not that's reciprocated. If things become awkward, I am respectful enough to move on." She didn't reveal the fact that she was also an agent of the Harpers, told to keep her eyes and ears open at Far Reach, as there were rumours of trouble afoot.

"Well actually with the way it works, as to intent, it keeps it from going underground because it acts upon the person's desire to do harm to the fort, the village, or another citizen. It further promotes trust, because you know that perceived enemy actually is looking out for the same thing you are. Okay so maybe that other does not have your best interest at heart but at least you know they are not trying to harm you. Which seemed to help a lot with calming the chaos."

"So you just signed on as a caravan guard, interesting. Some I just not take you to be the mercenary type." The arrive at the outer gate, "Would you care for a guide to our humble village, or do you just want to see it in the raw."
Jan 15, 2020 12:05 pm
"I'm not!" Feliani laughed at Katsmon's last observation. "At least that's not how I intend to spend my days. But now I'm here, and I shall fully explore the village before I get kicked out." She expressed her tone optimistically, to show that she was prepared to make the best out of the restrictive law they had here. "Thank you Katsmon for the escort, I shall be fine by myself, and promise not to stir up too much trouble." She winked and hoped he understood that to be a joke directed at the oath rule.

With that, she began to head down the central path they had first come by. Shahadur had mentioned a number of places, and she remembered the Rock Inn and the bread Kezzel liked. That was as good a place to start as any.

Within only a few steps the main road split one path, the one she'd come down, led to the north gate the other presumably led to the south gate. Glancing around the 5 Inn signs could easily been seen, looking left to right there were the following Inn signs, an Open Book, a Fat Horse, a Tankard on angle, face of a Yroc, and a Rock. Other than that just the sea of tents.

If you'd rather I continue in another thread, lemme know! But I planned to catch up with Feliani, if I may! :D
Egret leaves the fort after about fifteen minutes of navigating its corridors, and steps outside with a renewed appreciation of not being under tons and tons of stone. He looks around at the sea of colorful tents, appreciating the sight but a bit lost as to where he should head out - the village is not that big, at least not from this angle, but there are a lot of people, and he doesn't remember if Feliani promised to wait anywhere specific. Maybe he should just go wherever his legs will lead him, and ask around...

Continuing checking his surroundings for the familiar sight of his companion - or Katsmon, as he remembers them leaving together, - the druid slowly moves down the main road.
OOC:
Can I see Feliani from the gates? Just in case I can't, here's Perception check to find her. :D

Egret spots Katsmon heading back in as he is heading out, his question gets a reply, "Probably the Rock Inn but that is a guess." along with that Katsmon points off to his left or Egret's right.

Sorry I thought I posted and forgot all about it! Small rewind to just before Egret comes back out.
Feliani looked at her options, and decided to head towards the inn with the sign of the rock above. Shahadur had described them all earlier. She entered, smiled generally at the patrons within, and looked to see if she could find both a table and the proprietor.

Finding the Rock Inn was no big deal but upon arriving she is greeted with something somewhat unusual as most Inns are made to accommodate all potential customers but this one was not. Further while the upper floors were made of good solid wood construction the main floor was rock, not the rock of the bridge just well dressed stone, for about the first six feet. The door was the most unusual that she had encountered as it was a door within a door and both were semi-circular. The outer door topped out at about five and half feet and the inner door topped out at about three quarters of the outer door. Opening the outer door gave way to a large alcove with stone stairs on the left leading down. The initial part of the stairway was like the door and topped out at about six-foot but due to the angle made it a bit awkward to descend if you were taller than five-foot. This place was obviously not built to accommodate taller folk. Still one only had to descend about half the stairs before this became a non-issue as it opened into about an eight-foot high cellar-like rustic common room. Off to the left and right were a pair of large hearths where folks sat on short sturdy chairs or stools in a semi-circular around the hearth and directly in front of the stairs was a large circular fire pit where a again patrons sat on stools or in chairs. Tables seemed to be the stools as various tankards sat upon them and there were no tables as such but then tables tended to only be found in the more expensive Inns.

It was hard to tell who the proprietor might be but with nearly half the patrons sporting beards it was most likely a dwarf and one of those dwarves got up and walked up to Feliani put his left fist over his chest and said, "For the Village." The back side of his hand glowed a bluish color.

Feliani took in the sights of the inn with keen interest, even though she felt she almost had to stoop to enter into the main room. It was a remarkable looking establishment, and she hoped that being of a different race did not mean that she would be unwelcome here.
She also immediately understood the importance of the sigil, This must be the oath that the others had taken, to show their loyalty to this town, she concluded to herself. Knowing so, she spoke politely, "Greetings, I hope that this establishment welcomes wayfarers and visitors who might merely be passing by. I would gladly return the greeting but do not intend to disrespect your oath. May I patronise here?"

The dwarf in front of Feliani eyes go a bit cold and he looks back to the group he came from and calls out, "She's a merc!" And totally ignoring Feliani turns and walks back and takes his original seat.

Brytselle -- brite-SELL-uh
Shortly after the dwarf takes his seat a female dwarf steps up wiping her hands on her apron, "Greetings, I am Brytselle, I apologize for the boys attitudes they do not care much for folk that do not support the village but you are more than welcome here what can I get you. Oh and you might," she inclines her head slightly towards her left away from where the dwarf sat, "want to sit by the other hearth, they are..." she pauses a moment then concludes with "less opinionated."
Jan 19, 2020 7:17 am
"And you good sir dwarf, are ill-mannered." Feliani replied gently and even more politely in tone, but loud enough for those around to hear.

"Thank you Brystelle," Feliani headed to the hearth on Brystelle's left, "I hear high recommendations of a Kez special bread, and simply must try it. And an ale to wash it down." She looked at who the others were who occupied the chairs around it, and nodded a greeting to them before taking an empty seat.

Correct me if Egret shouldn't be aware of Feliani's familiar. :D
"You have my gratitude," Egret smiles and nods to Katsmon in his thanks, and then follow the direction he was pointed in, hoping that it won't be hard to find the inn. Walking down the road, he muses if Feliani had the same idea as himself, to speak with the locals and gather information - or maybe she just wanted a drink, after all it was a long journey. His eyes dart to the skies, looking out for a familiar silhouette of a hawk, but there's no sign of Jarret right now.

When the druid approaches the crossroads, he pauses, a bit confused by the five - five! - inns in such close vicinity. Who needs that many entertainment establishments in one place? Egret frowns as he looks at the signs, wondering what societal separation caused need for the different inns. Absent-mindely he rubs his left hand, remembering the sigil of the oath - not something he's very keen on, but bending before laws is familiar by now. He just hopes that the village doesn't have any infighting problems.

After taking a breath to gather his wits, Egret finally heads towards the inn with a rock sign - hopefully the correct one. Not that there are a lot of ways to interpret the drawing of a rock, but wouldn't it be amusing if the Rock Inn was some other one? With this thought, the druid steps inside, carefully eyeing the interior and trying to find Feliani as quick as possible.

They've traveled together, so Egret would be fully aware, but Jarret's probably off hunting rabbits or something. :)

Okay first the Hearth was on Brytselle's left which would have been Feliani's right --- and yes the hawk went hunting oysters which came across as something editable so the first edible thing it finds must be an oyster ;)

That all being said -- late night with family today so will try to get something posted by tomorrow -- so please freeze frame for now

"Are you sure? We do not normally make that bread on a regular basis as it is not overly popular, so you would have to buy a whole loaf. In fact the only one that actually requests that bread is ole Kezzel or someone picking up an order for him. Also do you care what kind of Ale it is, and we only stock the darker brews just so you know."

The folk sitting about this hearth seem to be a mix of mostly Hins and Gnomes of varying ages. Also Feliani notes that while sturdy the seats sit lower to the floor and those over here are shorter than the ones in the more common central area but it also seems that is just because most of those sitting in this area prefer these shorter chairs. Several of the folk are puffing on pipes but the smoke curls up to the ceiling and dances in and out of hiding amongst the rafters a few feet overhead.

As Egret makes his way down to the bottom of the stairs a dwarf gets up and walks up to him from Egret's left. He puts his left fist over his chest and says, "For the Village." The back side of his hand glowed a bluish color. His voice is load enough to have been heard by most anyone within the common room.
