Episode 1 Scene 1c : The Arrival

Jan 14, 2020 6:06 am
Katsmon walks with Feliani and after opening the door for her leading out into the compound he talked as they walked back to the Village proper, "I can somewhat understand your reservations about the Oath but hopefully you will come to see its benefits. Prior to its enactment we had so many issues with this group not trusting that group who blamed another group for problems the village was having. It was all really just a major mess and folks constantly hurting on another. Shahadur wanted something more black and white, but we decided on something minimalistic in order to not be to authoritarian since that is not a place to govern from either. So what brought you all the way out to Far Reach?"
Jan 14, 2020 9:52 am
"I admit I have no doubts as to its benefits. I can see why it can work to stop potentially antagonistic factions from escalating into open fighting. Wouldn't it drive everything underground though? People working in shadows rather than openly? Most of the time I'd prefer seeing my enemy face to face than have a dagger in my back." Feliani was forthright in her thoughts. She appreciated that her view was respected, and no one had tried to kick up a fuss about the matter. She promised to herself that she'd keep the lawfulness in the back of her mind even as she considered staying on.

"Truth be told, I had no expectations of what I might find at Far Reach. The caravan assignment led me all the way here, and since that's done, and I hear that there is need here for stalwarts and defenders, I'm prepared to stay and lend my services, whether or not that's reciprocated. If things become awkward, I am respectful enough to move on." She didn't reveal the fact that she was also an agent of the Harpers, told to keep her eyes and ears open at Far Reach, as there were rumours of trouble afoot.
Jan 14, 2020 4:00 pm
"Well actually with the way it works, as to intent, it keeps it from going underground because it acts upon the person's desire to do harm to the fort, the village, or another citizen. It further promotes trust, because you know that perceived enemy actually is looking out for the same thing you are. Okay so maybe that other does not have your best interest at heart but at least you know they are not trying to harm you. Which seemed to help a lot with calming the chaos."

"So you just signed on as a caravan guard, interesting. Some I just not take you to be the mercenary type." The arrive at the outer gate, "Would you care for a guide to our humble village, or do you just want to see it in the raw."
Jan 15, 2020 12:05 pm
"I'm not!" Feliani laughed at Katsmon's last observation. "At least that's not how I intend to spend my days. But now I'm here, and I shall fully explore the village before I get kicked out." She expressed her tone optimistically, to show that she was prepared to make the best out of the restrictive law they had here. "Thank you Katsmon for the escort, I shall be fine by myself, and promise not to stir up too much trouble." She winked and hoped he understood that to be a joke directed at the oath rule.

With that, she began to head down the central path they had first come by. Shahadur had mentioned a number of places, and she remembered the Rock Inn and the bread Kezzel liked. That was as good a place to start as any.
Jan 15, 2020 3:58 pm
Within only a few steps the main road split one path, the one she'd come down, led to the north gate the other presumably led to the south gate. Glancing around the 5 Inn signs could easily been seen, looking left to right there were the following Inn signs, an Open Book, a Fat Horse, a Tankard on angle, face of a Yroc, and a Rock. Other than that just the sea of tents.

If you'd rather I continue in another thread, lemme know! But I planned to catch up with Feliani, if I may! :D
Egret leaves the fort after about fifteen minutes of navigating its corridors, and steps outside with a renewed appreciation of not being under tons and tons of stone. He looks around at the sea of colorful tents, appreciating the sight but a bit lost as to where he should head out - the village is not that big, at least not from this angle, but there are a lot of people, and he doesn't remember if Feliani promised to wait anywhere specific. Maybe he should just go wherever his legs will lead him, and ask around...

Continuing checking his surroundings for the familiar sight of his companion - or Katsmon, as he remembers them leaving together, - the druid slowly moves down the main road.
OOC:
Can I see Feliani from the gates? Just in case I can't, here's Perception check to find her. :D

Egret spots Katsmon heading back in as he is heading out, his question gets a reply, "Probably the Rock Inn but that is a guess." along with that Katsmon points off to his left or Egret's right.

Sorry I thought I posted and forgot all about it! Small rewind to just before Egret comes back out.
Feliani looked at her options, and decided to head towards the inn with the sign of the rock above. Shahadur had described them all earlier. She entered, smiled generally at the patrons within, and looked to see if she could find both a table and the proprietor.
Jan 18, 2020 4:40 pm
Finding the Rock Inn was no big deal but upon arriving she is greeted with something somewhat unusual as most Inns are made to accommodate all potential customers but this one was not. Further while the upper floors were made of good solid wood construction the main floor was rock, not the rock of the bridge just well dressed stone, for about the first six feet. The door was the most unusual that she had encountered as it was a door within a door and both were semi-circular. The outer door topped out at about five and half feet and the inner door topped out at about three quarters of the outer door. Opening the outer door gave way to a large alcove with stone stairs on the left leading down. The initial part of the stairway was like the door and topped out at about six-foot but due to the angle made it a bit awkward to descend if you were taller than five-foot. This place was obviously not built to accommodate taller folk. Still one only had to descend about half the stairs before this became a non-issue as it opened into about an eight-foot high cellar-like rustic common room. Off to the left and right were a pair of large hearths where folks sat on short sturdy chairs or stools in a semi-circular around the hearth and directly in front of the stairs was a large circular fire pit where a again patrons sat on stools or in chairs. Tables seemed to be the stools as various tankards sat upon them and there were no tables as such but then tables tended to only be found in the more expensive Inns.

It was hard to tell who the proprietor might be but with nearly half the patrons sporting beards it was most likely a dwarf and one of those dwarves got up and walked up to Feliani put his left fist over his chest and said, "For the Village." The back side of his hand glowed a bluish color.
Jan 19, 2020 2:11 am
Feliani took in the sights of the inn with keen interest, even though she felt she almost had to stoop to enter into the main room. It was a remarkable looking establishment, and she hoped that being of a different race did not mean that she would be unwelcome here.
She also immediately understood the importance of the sigil, This must be the oath that the others had taken, to show their loyalty to this town, she concluded to herself. Knowing so, she spoke politely, "Greetings, I hope that this establishment welcomes wayfarers and visitors who might merely be passing by. I would gladly return the greeting but do not intend to disrespect your oath. May I patronise here?"
Jan 19, 2020 6:41 am
The dwarf in front of Feliani eyes go a bit cold and he looks back to the group he came from and calls out, "She's a merc!" And totally ignoring Feliani turns and walks back and takes his original seat.

Brytselle -- brite-SELL-uh
Shortly after the dwarf takes his seat a female dwarf steps up wiping her hands on her apron, "Greetings, I am Brytselle, I apologize for the boys attitudes they do not care much for folk that do not support the village but you are more than welcome here what can I get you. Oh and you might," she inclines her head slightly towards her left away from where the dwarf sat, "want to sit by the other hearth, they are..." she pauses a moment then concludes with "less opinionated."
Jan 19, 2020 7:17 am
"And you good sir dwarf, are ill-mannered." Feliani replied gently and even more politely in tone, but loud enough for those around to hear.

"Thank you Brystelle," Feliani headed to the hearth on Brystelle's left, "I hear high recommendations of a Kez special bread, and simply must try it. And an ale to wash it down." She looked at who the others were who occupied the chairs around it, and nodded a greeting to them before taking an empty seat.

Correct me if Egret shouldn't be aware of Feliani's familiar. :D
"You have my gratitude," Egret smiles and nods to Katsmon in his thanks, and then follow the direction he was pointed in, hoping that it won't be hard to find the inn. Walking down the road, he muses if Feliani had the same idea as himself, to speak with the locals and gather information - or maybe she just wanted a drink, after all it was a long journey. His eyes dart to the skies, looking out for a familiar silhouette of a hawk, but there's no sign of Jarret right now.

When the druid approaches the crossroads, he pauses, a bit confused by the five - five! - inns in such close vicinity. Who needs that many entertainment establishments in one place? Egret frowns as he looks at the signs, wondering what societal separation caused need for the different inns. Absent-mindely he rubs his left hand, remembering the sigil of the oath - not something he's very keen on, but bending before laws is familiar by now. He just hopes that the village doesn't have any infighting problems.

After taking a breath to gather his wits, Egret finally heads towards the inn with a rock sign - hopefully the correct one. Not that there are a lot of ways to interpret the drawing of a rock, but wouldn't it be amusing if the Rock Inn was some other one? With this thought, the druid steps inside, carefully eyeing the interior and trying to find Feliani as quick as possible.

Okay first the Hearth was on Brytselle's left which would have been Feliani's right --- and yes the hawk went hunting oysters which came across as something editable so the first edible thing it finds must be an oyster ;)

That all being said -- late night with family today so will try to get something posted by tomorrow -- so please freeze frame for now

"Are you sure? We do not normally make that bread on a regular basis as it is not overly popular, so you would have to buy a whole loaf. In fact the only one that actually requests that bread is ole Kezzel or someone picking up an order for him. Also do you care what kind of Ale it is, and we only stock the darker brews just so you know."

The folk sitting about this hearth seem to be a mix of mostly Hins and Gnomes of varying ages. Also Feliani notes that while sturdy the seats sit lower to the floor and those over here are shorter than the ones in the more common central area but it also seems that is just because most of those sitting in this area prefer these shorter chairs. Several of the folk are puffing on pipes but the smoke curls up to the ceiling and dances in and out of hiding amongst the rafters a few feet overhead.
Jan 20, 2020 8:26 pm
As Egret makes his way down to the bottom of the stairs a dwarf gets up and walks up to him from Egret's left. He puts his left fist over his chest and says, "For the Village." The back side of his hand glowed a bluish color. His voice is load enough to have been heard by most anyone within the common room.
Jan 21, 2020 8:43 am
Egret tilts his head to the right, looking over the dwarf with a mixture of confusion and curiosity. His eyes flicker to the blue glow of his hand, and the druid attempts to mimic the greeting: he lifts his left hand over his chest, backside turned towards the dwarf and repeats: "For the Village?" - which sounds more like a question than a statement, the tiefling not sure if it'll have any effect, but intrigued to see if it does.
Jan 21, 2020 10:55 am
"I will take a loaf then. Perhaps I'll make it a gift to Kezzel. And I shall be happy to drink whatever you have on tap. Also, do you have accommodations here?"
Jan 21, 2020 6:09 pm
"Ah a new recruit you looked as much come share a pint and we will teach ya how this is done." he opens left hand as he says that and then motions with his right towards the hearth to Egret's left where a small group of dwarves are sitting.

However Egret cannot help but spot those blonde locks of Feliani standing off to his far right at the other end of the common room.
Jan 21, 2020 6:15 pm
OOC:
Did you see the link I provided to the various ales that exist within the Forgotten Realms I am not saying they have them all but the do have some of those
"All right I will make sure its wrapped up just in case, and we have several ales on tap so do you have a certain flavor that you prefer so that I can get that which matches your taste the best?"
Jan 22, 2020 3:44 am
"Did I?" Egret raises his eyebrows, surprised at the dwarf's comment. "Thank you for the offer, master dwarf, but I have come here to find my companion - which I already spotted, I believe." The druid glances at where he noticed Feliani, who appears to be chatting with a barmaid, and then looks back at the dwarf. "I'll gladly join you at a later time, but do excuse me for now."

The tiefling nods to the dwarf respectfully, hoping that the locals wouldn't mind his postponing of the conversation, and turns towards the hearth, eager to finally approach Feliani.
OOC:
Provided the dwarf doesn't stop him, Egret would approach Feliani and Brytselle. :D

"If you have some Shadowdark I'll have that."
Jan 22, 2020 3:48 pm
"Sure drop back over when you are done or just ask someone else in the know about how to get this," he taps the back of his left hand , "to show as it will help you get discounts and other good stuff available to those who support the village and once your face gets known you will not be overly necessary although you still get checked from time to time as is appropriate." With that the dwarf turns and heads back to his seat.
Jan 22, 2020 4:30 pm
As Brytselle responds to Feliani, Egret arrives in time to over hear the exchange.

"Shadowdark," she nods, "okay, I will check to see if we have that particular variety and if not I will get you the closest complement to it that we do have. Oh and yes we do have available accommodations depending on your desires. Our common room is available for 7 claws per night, we have a couple of shared rooms and those are 7 dirks per night and if you want a secured chest that is an additional 3 dirks per day, and we also have private rooms for 3 dragons per day."
Jan 23, 2020 12:24 pm
"Thank you Brystelle, I will let you know if I have need of acommodations." Feliani turned to Egret who had drawn near. "Oh, are the others here as well? Done with Kustaa's briefing? With all the extra precautions this place has I imagine there ought to be some enemy out there to defend this place from."
Jan 23, 2020 1:13 pm
"Not yet, I'm afraid, but I shall hope you don't find my company lacking?" Egret grins softly, before turning towards the barmaid, giving her a small bow. "Good day to you. I see that the negotiations about drinks are all in motion?" The druid's eyes flicker back to Feliani. "I admit I left early and skipped the mission briefing, but I'm sure the others will let us know of what passed. It would be uncharacteristic of them to keep silent."

Brytselle nods to Egret, "Will you be wanting a drink as well sir?"
Jan 23, 2020 6:50 pm
One of the Hin by the hearth pipes in, "You all going to just tower over us or you going to pull up a chair and join the circle?"
Jan 23, 2020 8:50 pm
OOC:
Sorry for posting out of order a bit, but I hope it's not that big a contribution to disturb the flow! :D
"No, but thank you, the thought is appreciated," Egret beams at the dwarven lady, and then looks over at the hin who spoke up, just now paying attention to the other patrons. "My apologies, I wasn't sure if my friend wished to stay or not. Do you, Felianu?" He turns to his companion with a questioning glance.
Jan 23, 2020 10:27 pm
The Hin pipes in again, "She just ordered a drink I think she's plannin' on drinking it."
Jan 24, 2020 12:51 pm
Egret glances at the hin again, somewhat perplexed by this patron's insistence at interrupting the conversation, but then shrugs. "I wasn't sure if they were talking of a simple glass or a bottle. Maybe my friend here wished to buy a bottle to share with her favorite companions?" There's a joking note in his tone. "One should not presume."
Jan 24, 2020 3:08 pm
"Oh do sit down Egret, we'll just get two of whatever I'm having." Feliani waved Egret to sit, then turned to the halfling, "I'm Feliani, yours is one of the friendlier voices I've heard since arriving here, so I'll drink to that, when it arrives that is." It was good to encounter a friendly hinfolk, in contrast to the rude dwarf earlier.
Jan 24, 2020 11:54 pm
Brytselle nods to Feliani, "I will bring them right away." and with that she turns and heads off towards the back of the room.
Jan 25, 2020 12:02 am
To Feliani's introduction the Hin replies, "Tilman, and thanks sharing your drink it is much appreciated. Being discounted a lot ourselves we Hin and..." he gestures across to an older looking Gnome, "Gnomes tend not to be overly concerned with that all for one and one for all things the others in the village seemed to be into. Still we were not the reason that law was put into place anyway as we tended to get along with all. However, I have to say I am a bit confused. Egret here seems to an Oath carrier and yet he also seems to be with you. So are you a mercenary or are you planning on staying on and have just not taken the Oath yet?"
Jan 25, 2020 7:35 am
Feliani greeted the older gnome as well. The friendliness of the smaller folk put her at ease already. Not as stuffy a place here, Feliani thought as she eased herself into her seat and warmed up to the hearth fire. "If you don't mind me saying, and no offence to my friend Egret who's taken the Oath, I still haven't come round to accepting that this place insists on splitting their folk into two camps. Or that if I haven't taken the Oath I must be a mercenary of hire. Feliani's more vocal and easy going nature came out, but she also remembered her manners. "And what about you goodman Tilman, are you a resident here or engaged in some business?"
Jan 25, 2020 7:52 am
Tillman answers her over arching questions by bring his left fist over his sternum and saying "For the Village" causing the back of his hand to glow blue with the same sigil the dwarf displayed, "and I am a tanner by trade, although I have been known to go out on excursion every now and again."
Jan 25, 2020 7:55 am
"Aie dunna let em lie ta ya lassy, he's a rooga, onerble but roog no-the-less" an elderly female gnome smoking a pipe informs Feliani
Jan 25, 2020 8:09 am
"Then the question is whether he's an honest roog or not." Feliani smiled back at both of them as they bantered.
Jan 25, 2020 10:46 am
The older Gnome looks thoughtful then says, "Well I aints nuhva hard ovn honeest roog."
Jan 25, 2020 10:49 am
Where Tillman quips in with, "Oh come on Zin I dont lie..." he takes in a deep breath, "at least not any more than anyone else does. Well... not counting you of course."
Jan 25, 2020 1:50 pm
Feliani picked up on the gnome's name and introduced herself again with a term of respect, "Mother Zin, I am Feliani, and this is friend Egret. You appear to be a long time local of this place."
Jan 25, 2020 4:27 pm
Egret murmurs his thanks to Feliani and somewhat hesitantly sits down, unsure if he wants to stay but deeming it impolite to refuse. The druid let's the chatting flow over him, listening only partially and barely participating with a few nods for appropriate moments, but letting his companion handle the talking. Instead, he takes a moment to look over the inn's other patrons, idly curious about the locals. The tiefling smiles politely when Feliani introduces them, making a note of the hin and the gnome's respective names, but his mind is clearly not on the conversation.

"Yea been 'ere a while" she takes few puffs then continues, "den agin dis ole place aint been 'ere all dat long. I 'ave ta say doe, you two kinda an odd lookin' couple."
Jan 27, 2020 2:27 pm
The last comment catches Egret's attention, and the druid looks back at the gnome. "Odd even for mercenaries or adventurers? I imagine a lot of peculiar folk pass the village looking for coin, glory or adrenaline." He glances around the inn absent-mindely, as if trying to see said people, and then pauses his sights at the group of dwarves that he was invited to join earlier.

"I would've thought so too. Hence the need for the Oath, to keep everyone in line." Feliani agreed. She then turned to Egret. "Need to check on the rest? I had the impression you all were going to be commissioned by the guard to fulfil some task."
Jan 27, 2020 9:46 pm
"I skipped the briefing, remember?" The druid intertwined his fingers absent-mindely, while turning to look at the glowing embers of the hearth. "I'm sure they will find us themselves, with time. If the villagers don't notice me passing by, I'm doing something wrong." He smiles, and carefully - and somewhat proudly - fixes his collar. "But speaking of, Brindel was planning on seeing Kezzel, I believe. Is this the inn we were recommended to get some of his favorites from?"

"Hmm sounds like ole Zinwyn is gonna go fishin in da morn. Should be back a little after midday. So 'ow many ya be feedin?"
Jan 29, 2020 9:26 am
OOC:
Is that a typo? Zinwyn is talking about old Kezzel going fishing in the morning right? Not about herself going fishing?
"Where does he fish? Maybe I'll join him. I don't know how big the party is going to be yet. You know what he likes to eat as well?"
Jan 29, 2020 4:00 pm
"Kez no fish, I do and tware I get me oystas is me secret. Its why Zins oystas so good. Just needs ta know 'ow many ya be feedin"
Jan 29, 2020 8:37 pm
"It wouldn't do for us to fish for secrets of your trade, indeed," Egret comments, then realizes his unintended pun and offers a sheepish smile. "But I'm unsure of how many of us wish to visit master Kezzel, and if they'd like to partake in the dishes themselves - although I don't doubt your oysters are delicious. I was under the impression that we were bringing gifts for Kezzel, not for all of us together?" The tiefling looks over at Feliani, as if asking for confirmation or denial.
Jan 29, 2020 8:43 pm
"Wells no ones likes to eats alone, 'spekly in fronts of dem but be yer call"
Jan 30, 2020 11:06 am
"If they are as tasty as I now imagine them to be, let's have enough for Kezzel and ourselves." Feliani wanted Zinwyn to know she appreciated the offer. "Question is, can we afford them? What's your price for your tastiest oysters?"
Jan 31, 2020 12:51 am
A complicated expression briefly appears on Egret's face at Feliani's offer of getting the oysters for themselves, but it quickly passes, and the druid simply offers a smile. "I'm willing to forfeit my share to save the resources. I'm much fonder of the vegetables, I admit, and won't be able to appreciate the taste."
Jan 31, 2020 1:16 am
"Hmm since ya be buyin em for ole Kez I be sellin em to you fer a spekl price of just un Drag'n fer five buts I gotz ta nah 'ow many ya be feed'n soze I can tells ya 'ow many ya be need'n"
Jan 31, 2020 1:28 am
"I know Brindel and Lex were interested in talking to Kezzel, but I'm not sure if Kroog and Kendra would want to join. But even then, it might be better to be safe and get some for everyone, barring myself," Egret glances at Feliani, silently asking for second opinion. One dragon per portion doesn't seem like a bad price - even though the tiefling has no idea what are usual prices for food in these lands, - but they aren't exactly rich at the moment, and are about to head out on a mission.

"Still depends how much I can afford." Feliani clarified to Egret, then turned back to Zinwyn, "Thank you for your generous offer, but there's not that much coin in my purse left. I figure I can buy 3 Dragons worth. Still need to get the rest of the supplies." She turned back to Egret, "We just have to make do with what we get." She had one more solution, to see if Jarret had been successful in what she had instructed it to do.
Jan 31, 2020 11:45 pm
"I can pitch in, but I'm not sure how much we should save for other supplies on the list," Egret turns to Zinwyn. "Miss Zinwyn, would you happen to know the approximate price of vinegar from the Book Inn by any chance? We haven't had the chance to visit it yet, but I've been planning to head there next." He looks towards the door thoughtfully. "If you wait here, Feliani, I can probably quickly check on the prices myself. I'm afraid I don't remember the last thing we had to get, though..."

Feb 3, 2020 7:16 pm
"As I said child, I can 'ave em by about tomorrow midday if you wan'em that quickly and they be best fresh as day dunna keep well."

Brytselle returns with a pair of large tankards, "Well we still have some of this and that will be 2 Dirks since you be sharin' it with village folk and if want more let me know as the bread does take a bit of time to cook."
Feb 4, 2020 6:39 am
"Thank you." She paid Brystelle, "And thank you too Zinwyn, looking forward to it." Then she sat back, happy to have contributed a little to the hospitality of the place, by sharing what she ordered. She raised a tankard and nodded at those sitting around, before quaffing a big gulp.

Sharing by the way is literal you take a drink and pass it around as that is how it was done -- okay if and when the rest of the crew wonders in I will bring them in ;) till then if you have questions or such ask away
As the two waited for the bread to finish cooking, the sat and chatted with those nearby, Tilman was interested in what was going on elsewhere and offered up a lot of questions in that direction and the others gathered listened in on what was being shared.

That's all from me here, making friends, buying food and listening carefully. Once the bread is done Feliani with move to the other inns to buy the rest of the stuff. Or unless the rest of the party arrives.
Feliani listened in as well; it was good to keep an ear out on the goings-on in this place. Who knows when the information might come in handy.

Just to be clear, are we planning on going to other inns to check the prices and then return for the oysters? I'd actually like to maybe stay behind for a few moments to chat with the dwarf, maybe it'll be faster to separate? (I kinda feel guilty about holding up everyone else with this food gathering quest though.)
Egret sips the drink more out of politeness than actual interest in alcohol, notes the taste as an afterthought and almost immediately tries to pass it on to Feliani with an apologetic look, feeling a bit guilty about making her pay for it. He listens to the chatter of the locals for a while after that, but none of the gossip catches his attention, and the druid decides to change the company, making good on his promise to talk with the dwarves after he chatted with Feliani.

With an excuse and a promise that he is going to stay in the vicinity, Egret stands up and extracts himself from the gathering around the hearth, heading towards the other side of the room, where the company of dwarves are sharing their drinks. He quickly finds the one who initially greeted him, and approaches him. "Greetings again, master dwarf. Is invitation to be taught how the village defending goes still in power?"

The dwarf looks up to Egret, "Sure," but then seems to notice something behind him and says, "oh, just a moment though." He taps the dwarf to his right and says, "Teach him how to do the hand sign." Then he gets up and walks towards the entrance.

Arriving at the Rock Inn finally, Brindel notices that the dressed stone is fairly recent when compared to the other stone he as seen here, and was done with great precision. Further the height aspect of the place while a bit unusual was apparently designed to discourage taller folk from entering. The stone stairway was obviously carved right from the native rock also with great precision. Entering the lower room he was greeted with a much more familiar atmosphere one that almost reminded him of home. Especially since nearly half the patrons sporting beards. Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs a dwarf off to his right where Brindel spots Egret walks up and put his left fist over his chest and said, "For the Village." The back side of his hand glowed a bluish color.

The dwarf with Egret motions for him to take the seat the other dwarf just vacated and then turns, "It be fairly simple actually, you make a fist like this," he demonstrates making fist, "then ye place if over yer heart like this," again he accompanies the words with a demonstration. "Then while speaking the words, For the Village, you think sincerely about protecting village and its citizens." He concludes with "For the Village," and a soft bluish sigil appears. "Now if you notice this on someone and its glowin' a red then they have transgressed and need to be brought to trial at the garrison. Further its never an insult to challenge someone and if they do not respond then they either be mercs or a transgressor."

Egret follows the first dwarf with his gaze, beaming when he spots Brindel and Lex at the doorstep. The druid waves enthusiastically at his companions, clearly elated to see them, before actually turning back to the other dwarves and taking a seat as offered. He wants to go chat with Lex, but he already commited to talking with these folks, and maybe he can find out useful information before returning to the group.

The druid listens attentively to the words about the sigil, watching the speaker's hand glow and filing in information for the future, while also musing about the law system of the village at large. It's a peculiar way to keep order, this vow - as Feliani and Kendra both already noted, power of words can be twisted and misinterpreted, and stretching the nuances is not out of the realm of possibily. And protecting many at the cost of one, how would that work with the vow?

He shrugs these thoughts off, leaving them for the future deliberation, when the dwarfs stops talking, and then attempts to imitate the action. Repeating the gesture of putting his hand on his chest like he did before, the tiefling attempts to think about the village - the one he doesn't know much about yet, but the one his companions think is worth protecting. It's not a bad settlement from what he's seen so far - accepting different folks, not being overly suspicious. Can use a bit more friendliness - and less inns, - but that probably is too high expectation for this kind of settlement. Still, Egret tries to think about protecting it when he says: "For the Village," as instructed, and glances with curiosity at his hand to see if it worked.

Upon entering the Rock Inn, Brindel nods at his surroundings and subconsciously approves with a simple "Hmmm" until greeted by the dwarf. He responds politely with the common gesture of a bow and says, "Greetings. My name is Brindel Truehand of Citadel Adbar, Paladin of Gorm Gulthun, from the family of Thearden the Shining. Thank you for welcoming us into your establishment."

"This is my companion, Lex. We are seeking two other companions and I am happy to see them here." Brindel waves back at Egret then tries to catch Feliani's attention with the same wave.

Lex can tell Brindel looks relaxed here, as opposed to appearing uncomfortable the entire time at Mamz Inn.

Momentarily distracted by a street vendor, Kendra enters the Rock Inn, behind Brindel. "Oh, and my name is Kendra Morningchild. Acrobat, story-teller, and -kronickler"
Feb 5, 2020 9:56 pm
The back of Erget's hand glows a soft blue but definitely not nearly as brightly as that of his counterpart, "Good you got it. By the way are you an entertainer of some sort?"

"I am Balkohm Clan Spottistone of The Rift son of Bhalmiir son of Admor the Bold," he gives a nod in Lex's direction and then says to Brindel, "I take it you are new here as I have not seen you before have you taken the oath?" He glances back to the new arrival then looks back to Brindel
Feb 5, 2020 10:13 pm
Egret watches with curiosity as the glow slowly fades, and then looks up back at the dwarf. "Thank you for explaining this, master dwarf," he smiles. "And I'm not an entertainer, but a lot of people appear to mistake me for one. What I am is a druid of the Circle of the Land. Egret, at your service," he hesitantly offers a handshake, unsure if it would be a customary greeting here, but thinking that the dwarves might count it weird if he stands up for his usual bow just to sit back down after.
Feb 6, 2020 12:55 am
Lex just nods and follows Brindel's lead. He takes the opportunity to look around the inn and tries fo gage the mood. Is it safe? Do the patrons look happy? Does it look dodgy?

Brindel raises his left hand. "Yes, I took the oath. My hand still tingles sometimes."
Feb 6, 2020 5:26 am
Feliani had struck up an easy conversation with the villagers seated near her, on account of her sharing her ale. Egret had gone over to talk to others, and the bread was still baking, but she then saw the rest of the adventurers enter the inn as well, and waved them over once they had gone through the oath ritual of welcome.

"Done with the briefing at the garrison? Got some mission we can't talk about here?" She winked slyly but jokingly, in case there was a big do-to about who's allowed and who's not allowed to undertake missions from the garrison. "Well, let me know if I'm needed, otherwise I'm just going to carry on with my own shopping quest."

Yes Balkohm, son of Bhalmiir, I do entertain from time to time, and I took the oath yesterday Kendra is short for her kind, but she is still aware of the low ceiling. She finds somewhere to sit for the rest of the conversation.
Feb 10, 2020 9:21 am
OOC:
Okay Balkohm did not ask that question - a dwarf a good distance away asked it of Egret oh and the ceiling in her is 8 feet its just the entrance that is a bit low
The dwarf Egret is talking with counters his extended hand by reaching past it and clasping the inside of his forearm. "A druid, I thought druids were into browns and greens and yeah you are mighty colorful which tends to put you into the entertaining business since you are obviously not a pompous aristocrat."

Balkohm nods to Brindel's comment then glances at Kendra and says to them both, "Great well we can show you how to make it shine right proper."

Lex looks around at a rather homey rustic interior which is filled with dwarves, hins, and gnomes. The atmosphere appears quiet and comfortable.
Feb 10, 2020 5:00 pm
Brindel replies, "I am not sure what the means, but thank you. This looks like a proper place for food and drink, and I would like to join my companions for both."
Feb 10, 2020 5:41 pm
"Sure by all means, just ask any citizen they can show you how to make this shine," as he says that he holds up his left fist and taps the backside of it where the bluish glow had come from earlier. He then turns, pauses, grabs a chair and returns to where the other dwarves are currently sitting with Egret.
Feb 10, 2020 6:13 pm
Brindel leads Lex and Kendra to Feliani's seating area. "Friend Feliani, to answer your questions . . . yes, we have an assignment that I would rather discuss privately. Yes, we'll need you but not tonight. Our plans are to leave tomorrow. Does your shopping quest include finding a meal? This place seems fine and I could use a hearty meal and a heartier ale."
Feb 10, 2020 7:07 pm
Egret is startled a little by the dwarf's action, but tries to adjust and return what he suspects is a local dwarven alternative to a handshake. He genuinely laughs at the other's comment, amused by the comparison. "I'll take it as a compliment, master dwarf! And as for other druids, they prefer natural colours, but it is not a requirement as far as I'm aware. I'm a bit out of touch with my colleagues, due to travelling almost constantly and seldom having a chance to attend their meetings." The tiefling pauses, a sudden thought appearing in his mind. "Do you happen to know any druids in the Village, by any chance?"
Feb 10, 2020 7:22 pm
"Hmm..." he seems to think for a few moments then shakes his head side-to-side, "no not in the village but there is a guy that lives somewhere southeast of the village that is kind of uh... tends to wear more natural clothing, you know furs and stuff, basically browns and greens or at least that is what I've heard. Oh and their is ole Kezzel, he seems to know a lot about plants and critters from what I hear but I don't think he is actually a druid but then again neither am I so would not really know for sure and maybe he might be one."
Feb 10, 2020 8:06 pm
"Maybe I can pay a visit to this man at a later date," Egret muses, intrigued by the prospect. Of course, natural clothing might just be a sign of any profession related to nature, rangers and hunters and even foresters, but something from the way the dwarf speaks of aforementioned person makes the tiefling wonder. "And my companions were planning to visit Kezzel as well - we're here to plan a feast for him, in fact."

Egret then turns to the dwarf who just returned from speaking with Brindel, Lex and Kendra, a small smile dancing on the druid's lips. "It appears that my friends made their way here."
Feb 11, 2020 9:44 am
Feliani handed her drink over to Brindel, Lex and Kendra as they settled round. "This does seem like a good inn to spend the night for me. You can tell me more about your quest tomorrow." She nodded to Brindel. "In the meantime I shall continue to put together the food items needed to see Kezzel. I've settled the bread and the oysters already."
Feb 11, 2020 4:05 pm
"That is wonderful, Feliani. Any magical information that Kezzel shares will be helpful. I am sure he has much to say about this area, too."

"Well since you're here some of us can stay here and wait for the bread I ordered, there's another tankard going around as well. I'd like to nip out and grab the other two items Kezzel mentioned, the pickled ears, and the vinegar."
Feb 14, 2020 10:42 am
Kendra had been taken notes on what they have learned so far, which was not much, but was surprised by Feliani's words.
Wait what? Pickled ears and vinegar? What is that all about?
Feb 14, 2020 12:10 pm
I'd also like to get to the market vefore they close. Do you think they sell holy water, or should I visit a temple? Lex says to no one in particular. You are not certain whether he is addressing you or just thinking out loud
Feb 16, 2020 2:18 am
"Oh we do not have an official Temple here yet. Heck we do not even have any shrines set up for that matter. I think the Paladins have a prayer room though but I do not think they sell holy water. Do you think there would be a market for Holy Water? I think with the Paladins being here no one has concerned themselves with that sort of thing. Still they might have some in the open market hard to say what you can find there week to week. So what are you needing Holy Water for may I ask?"
Feb 16, 2020 10:48 am
Lex looks taken aback. He clearly thought he was just thinking out loud. Hello Sir, Lex, at your service. Holy water is very effective against the undead. Our current assignment may involve them. I like to be prepared.
Feb 16, 2020 11:42 am
... but I have been told crushing the undead structure, ie the bones, will also render the undead harmless. I'd say spending our few coins on traveling provisions would be wiser then chasing holy water.
Kendra searches through several small pockets and holds a small crystal bead up to the light. Oh and I can summon a magical shelter, so we can save the weight of tents.

At Lex's comment a small hush forms in those close to the group and everyone looks at them. After a brief moment Zinwyn breaks their silence with perhaps the question they are all wanting to ask, "Yee awl goin' inna da marsh aye?"

OOC:
I was expecting activity from the dwarves, but I suppose it's not coming, so I'll just naturally migrate back to the group! XD
Egret exchanges some words with the dwarves, idle chatter about the village and its inhabitants, as well as fashion choices and suspected druids in the woods. He tells his goodbyes after, thanking the dwarven group for their help and mentioning that he'll gladly join them again at later date, and makes his way back to the hearth - just in time to hear Zinwyn's question.

"We do?" he murmurs and raises his eyebrows, looking at Brindel. "Fascinating. I'd love to see the local marshes." The tiefling appears to be unaware of the wariness that settled over the locals.

Yes, I believe so. The Paladins wish to secure some kind of abandoned tower that can be seen from the north river. Do you know anything about it?
Feb 17, 2020 3:48 am
"Hmph so day fin'ly gonna luk at dat ting aye, 'bout time. Tole dem a wake ago 'bout it"
Feb 17, 2020 5:51 am
"If I may ask, what did you tell them? Sometimes useful information does not make it into the official record. We will soon be inspecting the situation."
Feb 17, 2020 6:06 am
Have you been there? Could you tell us anything about it?
Feb 18, 2020 1:09 am
"Well I twas on da river when I dun seen it in da distance, I had nah 'ver seen it befer nor has I since but wit all dat mist swirl'n da way it done surprised me I ev'n see it at all as it was not all dat close an' normly ya cants see all dat far in dat mist. Personly I be tinkn dat da mist it want'd me ta see it fer some reason."
Feb 18, 2020 2:18 am
Fascinating. I wonder if the mist is arcane in nature. I'll try to bottle some and bring it back to study. Approximately how far down the river was it?
Feb 18, 2020 8:26 pm
"Hmm 'ard ta say, I ain't nevva travald its linkth ta dang'rous afta a pient, butta can say it near dat point dat I sawz it."
Feb 19, 2020 1:55 am
That point? What point? Where does it become dangerous and why? Terrain? Monsters?
Feb 19, 2020 3:51 am
"Da pient whare it getz dangerous, dat is da pient of weech I speak." She pauses as she relights her pipe, "well beeg leezards and ghosts and probly utter tings too but dat was enuff fer me."
Feb 19, 2020 6:48 am
"Please excuse my ignorance of your local geography, but are you saying there’s a point on the river where you saw the tower through the mist? What direction and how far is this point?
Feb 19, 2020 3:56 pm
Zinwyn chuckles a bit, "Ya yungens sure do ask lots of non-sensikle quest'ns. Furst if it be in da marsh den it 'as ta be up river and nuxt duz ya tinks I be measurin me travel or be steerin' me boat an' watchin' fer danger? An' 'sides once in dat mist yaz gots no markers buts da rivers edge iffin ya can ev'n sees dat."
Feb 20, 2020 3:40 pm
"Respectfully, none of us," Brindel gestures toward the party members, "are from this area. I hail from the north -- the great city of Citadel Adbar. We only arrived today and have not explored the area. We do not know up what is up river nor down river yet. We are asking the wise and experienced, such as yourself, to better avoid mistakes so we are successful in helping the village."

"Landmarks will make it easier for us when we travel. For example, there is a triangular patch of land that juts into a river near Citadel Adbar. It is labeled on our maps as 'the Point' and we know it takes almost a half-day to reach it in good weather. I thought you might be referring to a similar landmark."
Feb 20, 2020 4:02 pm
OOC:
Okay @rpgventurer keep in mind that currently in this Realm Far Reach is pretty far north and while you can freely call out places located within the Forgotten Realms please do not place them in relationship to where you are :) -- so "I hail from the great city of" would have been sufficient to identify where you were from :)
Zinwyn eyes Brindel for a few moments taking a few puffs on her pipe then responds, "Far nuff den. Well ta edjacate ya, da river she flo east ta west unda da bridge an is war da dark waters stop, up riva ya enconta da marsh, dunna no how long it take ya cuz eyes al'ays takes me boat whenz I go. Furter dee marks eyes use are a sense of wares I is more than it is any obvus ting one can see since da mist it hides most tings frum bein seen. Soze dats da jist of it."
Feb 20, 2020 9:23 pm
Egret, who until this moment was simply listening to the conversation, uses a lull in the dialogue to turn to Brindel and the others: "My friends, unless there is any urgent matters that we need to resolve together, I think I will take my leave for now," he nods to Feliani. "I will wait for you outside till we can continue our errand run."

The druid says quick goodbyes to the group besides the hearth and Brytselle - when he manages to pass by her serving drinks, - and, with a slight detour, to the dwarves, before heading for the exit. He plans to just stay at the crossroads until his companions finish their improvised reconnaissance. Maybe he can see if he spots anything interesting about the village in the meantime...
