Welcome and Character Creation

Welcome to the game everyone!

I'm glad you're interested in trying this out.
I already created a thread for rules and one with all important character creation info. There is also a bit more background info on the setting in this thread.
The rules thread explains all the terms used on the character sheet in the first post but other than that, the CC thread will have all the info you need to build your characters.

Feel free to exchange ideas for characters in this thread already, ask questions about the rules, the game or whatever you want...

While you're discussing your character ideas, it would be great if all of you could already upload a Custom character sheet to this game and paste the sheet template in it so you can then go through the CC steps one by one! I'm posting the template in this thread again so you can quote it to get the formatting as well :)

I'm probably not going to be playing, but I made a character anyway. Maybe he can appear as an extra! :D
Kinda min-maxed on this one, poor guy is going to have problems with mental damage.

Looks good, Flying, although I wouldn't recommend anyone to minmax their actual character's resistances to this point. I'm not going to stop you but 1 Mental sounds very risky xD
I uploaded all necessary rules and character generation information in the respective subforums. You can browse through it all but don't worry if you're not sure about how something works yet. I'm always available to answer any questions when they come up.

For now, you three should think about and discuss what type of character you would like to play and whether you want to already know each other at the start of the adventure or not.

No adventure without risk! XD

I messaged you on Discord. I have a character done, but would like to switch one thing to better fit my background. Switching computer out for mechanism

Mach, that character looks good. I didn't check through all the skill points but I trust you can do single digit additions ;)

In response to your question, to all of you: You can switch a skill point here and there around if it suits your character better. That's no problem. But don't raise anything above 4 or lower it below 1 and let me know what you're switching around if you do :)

OOC:
I'm mostly trying this system as a PC for the first time, so I'm ok with any sort of character. I'll be busy this week, so I'm making one now, but if it is something awsmack would like, bowl can make me one to balance the party later :D

Also... I'd say we know each other. Maybe one PC is new to the group, but the others would have worked together at some point (if not currently). Depending of awsmack's PC, we could have worked for the same coorporation or he could be my oldest's star recruit. I probably smuggled the wilderness PCs to join the "shadowrunners" (which can really be the team name...). So My PC has potential to be the connecting point for the party.

I switched computer to mechanism

I have 55 total points, same as Lain, one more than Flying.
So, either Lain and I took an extra or Flying missed one.

About weapons and armour...is there any in game difference between a steel sword, a monofilament blade, or a light saber?
And metal plate, hardened ceramics, or some futuristic woven material
Jan 26, 2020 8:25 pm
Sorry for spam. Checking avatar.
Jan 26, 2020 8:29 pm
Mine seems fine :)

I'm guessing all items will have similar stats at the beginning, so no game differences between those besides flavour, right bowl?
Jan 26, 2020 8:45 pm
There's not going to be too much differentiation between weapon and armor materials. Armor has an armor value and weapons have a precision and an armor break value.
They can also come with additional descriptors, so upsides and downsides (a medieval plate armor would for example limit the use of some skills like the movement ones and might even cause exhaustion under certain circumstances...)
We'll stay rather basic with the starting equipment so we'll mostly stick to those main values with maybe some minor upside or downside for balance.
Jan 26, 2020 8:49 pm
I counted everything up and Flying seems to have forgotten to add a skill somewhere. I can't say which one she's missing right now but she should have one additional one
Jan 26, 2020 9:57 pm
Ok...I was thinking woven ballistic armour. Better against force weapons (bullets, blades, etc.). Not as good against energy (lasers, blasters, etc.)

For weapons... mainly a melee fighter with a monofilament blade. A slashing weapon more so than stabbing.
A slug thrower as a side arm. Nothing special.

Sound good?
Jan 27, 2020 2:18 am
Excellent.
I think I am ready to go. I just need to know what numbers to put for armour, and how much damage my sword and gun do.

It's mechanisms/computers, I left it for later because I couldn't decide, and then promptly forgot. XD Thanks for catching it, Machiabelly!
(I'll add to computers, so at least the snake man wouldn't be perplexed by the technology in civilized world.)
Jan 27, 2020 7:19 pm
Okay, so we have a Cyborg Infiltrator and a Human Negotiator so far. That's already a good mix.

awsmack, how is it going? Do you already have an idea for a character? Do you need any help with the rules or character creation or anything?
I would say it's not too important that everyone plays something different. There might be situations where it would help you to also have a mechanic or a soldier with you but with just three players, you can't cover all four classes anyway ;) And since the system is skill-based, you can still fulfill all roles. So just pick what you feel like.
Jan 27, 2020 9:57 pm
It actually might be more exciting to try filling a role your character is not suited for, at least in the beginning. Since it's easier to level up low skills, it can probably go interesting directions! :P

Hey @bowl, would you mind if I play solo with your rules? Just a one-shot battle with myself (on my own forum, of course). :D

Welcome to the game, Eskaton
Look around the Character Creation rules, check out what you're interested in playing and if you have any questions, just ask in here
Jan 29, 2020 3:17 pm
So sorry for being slow in getting to this - work and home life has sucked away most of my time. I am excited to get into some Cyberpunk, though (too few games in that genre on GP).

What types of characters have been created thus far? I like the idea of a katana-wielding infiltrator, but don't want to double-up if someone else was going a similar route.
Jan 29, 2020 3:24 pm
We have a Cyborg Infiltrator that uses a long range rifle and a Human Negotiator with a sword as main weapon. As I mentioned before, doubling up is not necessarily a problem as long as everyone feels sufficiently unique
Jan 29, 2020 3:38 pm
Cool, I rolled up an android mechanic. Playing a quick game of shadowrun, but I'll come back and do the gear portion. This setting looks super fun!

Edit: Oop, I see awsmack is back in action. If #'s are too high with me, no worries to drop me for the folks you planned on!

No, it's alright, we'll go with four players now. If someone has to drop, we'll still have enough to continue that way
Jan 29, 2020 3:43 pm
@Eskaton: I approved your character sheet. Looks good to me so far
Jan 29, 2020 8:52 pm
Just to make sure I'm clear, are the resistances all additive? In other words, you get a value for origin, then it looks like adjustments for both upbringing and class (which often works against each other).
Jan 29, 2020 8:58 pm
They are but they are optional. You take the base value from the origin and then you can apply the mods from the other stages or not, your choice
Jan 29, 2020 9:59 pm
Sorry, so why would you not want to apply the modifiers? Can it ever be a bad thing to increase Resistance?

Also, what is the NII skill?
Jan 29, 2020 10:15 pm
Higher resistances are good but you always get one +1 and one -1 at every stage.
If you always apply the mods, you could end up with one resistance extremely low which might not be a good idea so you can choose to apply them or not.

Yes, I think I actually forgot to explain NII anywhere in the forums ':D
It's "Non-Intelligence Interactions". It's meant to cover interactions with animals and not full AIs.
I'm sure there's a better term for that out there but I couldn't think of one.
Since everyone has an idea for what everyone is playing at this point, you can also discuss if and how your characters know each other before the adventure. Some of you might be an established team, you might have just worked a job with someone else at some point in the past or you might have never met any of the others before this job. It all works equally well with this set-up
Jan 29, 2020 10:23 pm
Well, my character is from a corporation planet that has been abandoned by its Corp. They still have technology and a small space port, but the are regressing some on the tech side.

He has left his planet to make his fortune. He is good with a sword and good socially.

I am fine with us being a preexisting team, or someone could have hired us individually for a job and hopefully we find that we work well as a team.

awsmack says:

I’ll have to check a bit better when I have some time, but I think my PC concept may work as a soldier if we want to diversify abilities. Even though I like the combat disable, stealth is not really a thing I was planning. Maybe dodge master and rage suit Lain as well.

ANDREW was a spaceship tool prior to being put out to pasture, decommissioned, or disconnected from his initial assignment. I think it makes the most sense for him to have been utilized at a site that one of the other group members was working or stationed at, then roped into the crew for the game run.

I put some items into my gear section as well, not sure what value to assign the armor.

adding ANDREW to the suggestion:
Lain runs away in old spaceship where she finds and repairs ANDREW (maybe he was shut down for awhile?). She teams up with awsmack's infiltrator to form shadowrunner mercenary team specialised in cover missions (spy+hack). They recently got a good contract that allowed them to expand their skillset and hired some of the people they smuggled from thew wild worlds

Lain still works as a soldier, but now can aim to destroy the enemy's armour from afar :) With Bloodrage she may even try to destroy all armours or quickly reduce the enemy numbers!!! this probably worked well to allowthe other two from her team to hack and infiltrate or to cover their run when needed. She is now much more of a spaceship pilot :D

Awesome. Like this a lot. ANDREW would have a special connection to Lain as its savior and would be willing to put itself on the line for her sake (maybe a holdover of an old directive just with a new assigned target)
Jan 30, 2020 5:47 pm
Sounds good. We'll go with you all being a loose team, having worked together before a couple of times and all kind of centered around Lain. ANDREW could be sticking around Lain constantly, the others might work jobs here and there with her.
Once we've figured out awsmack's equipment, I'll create an intro post!
Jan 30, 2020 7:54 pm
Eskaton, I looked through your equipment and you mentioned a laser rifle. I didn't mention it anywhere before, but while laser weapons exist in the setting, they're very rare and expensive. Your weapons would fire bullets, so I'd say it would just be a regular rifle. If you want something more exotic, we can probably think of something else.

I'll post the intro post still today. We can finalize equipment still afterwards. At least for a couple of posts, you shouldn't yet need your weapon stats.
Jan 30, 2020 10:49 pm
Oh no problem, my mistake. I'll switch it to just like "scoped rifle" or "hunting rifle," whatever you'd prefer
Jan 30, 2020 10:50 pm
How is equipment determined? Maybe I missed this elsewhere, but I don't see any guides on selection. Since Nemo is an enhanced soldier, I would think some form of body armor, plus the aforementioned katana (and probably a handgun of some sort as well).
Jan 31, 2020 5:39 am
Just let me know what you have in mind (as you just did) and I'll hand out the values. I might make an equipment list at some point but for now, I'll just eyeball it
Apr 16, 2020 10:25 am
OOC:
CESN pointed out to me that I never actually posted your equipment stats. I wrote them down ages ago but must have forgotten to post them here.

Here they are:
Alright, I’ve been looking vour your equipment and my thoughts would be as follows.
Armor only has one value that is both its hardness and it’s "Hit Points"
Weapons have two values, Precision to get through armor and Armor Break to damage armor. The first value is Precision, the second AB

[ +- ] ANDREW
Apr 16, 2020 11:11 am
bowlofspinach says:
High precision rifle (3/4)
So, If I wanted to shoot down someone with this...
I'd first roll my Ranged lv 3 to check if I hit, then the weapon's Precision lv 3 to check if that got through the armour and the weapon's Armor Break lv 4, right? So that is, generally, 3x 2d6 rolls?
Apr 16, 2020 11:44 am
Almost

First, you roll your ranged roll to determine whether you hit.
Then, you roll the weapon's precision to see how you hit.
And then I compare your weapons armor break with the target's armor value to see how the weapon interacts with the armor.

It's two 2D6 rolls per attack
Apr 16, 2020 11:51 am
Right! AB is not random then :D

By the way, I did some stats and this is not as deadly as I expected... though there is potential for long shootouts :D

Generally, you're supposed to be able to win most fights. Enemy mooks go down after one successful hit, more important enemies take more, but that should shorten most fights down and weight them in your favor.
Recovery is slow, though, so getting into fight after fight is where it gets dangerous.
Apr 16, 2020 12:10 pm
That sounds like a good balance to me actually!

Dealing 1 damage to kill a mook is 17-44% at the start, with them having at most 34-11% of damaging us. Fairly balanced but on the player's favour. This means an expected mook down every turn or two for a 3 player party!
