Episode 1 Scene 3 A Dinner Date

Feb 16, 2020 7:50 pm
OOC:
I will open it here letting those going to see ole Kezzel a chance to chime in.
With the shopping and conversing done the previous day concluded and the group settling in for the night with the majority of them bedding down at the garrison with Feliani staying the night at the Rock Inn and agreeing to meet the others at the entrance to the Garrison the following midday where per the rules Feliani will still need to check all her weapons before entering.

With all the items purchased and assembled, including the oysters, Feliani carried them, together with whomever else was accompanying her up to the Garrison entrance. It was a hassle, but she was getting used to it, to check her weapons in. She was good-humoured enough to see what Kezzel had in mind with his very specific food items to have a proper meal. If nothing else, she had paid to have a conversation with the gnome whilst partaking in a meal together.
OOC:
I thought the oysters were only going to be ready by noon.

Egret followed after Feliani's lead, appearing chipper and enthusiastic - either he was well-rested, or just excited to see the gnome, or maybe both. He pointed out some plants in the area while Feliani was checking in her weapons, and continued idly chatting on their way inside, not caring if he was being listened to or not. He did grew quieter when they entered the building, clearly still intimidated by it, but even then didn't lose his good spirit and was beaming at all the guards they passed by. Probably to their confusion.

Okay I had the impression that both Brindel and Lex were going to be joining this I just assumed they were holding off until the shopping trip was completed -- which I believe has completed for Brindel

"Hail, Feliani and Egret," Brindel says with a warm smile as the two enter the garrison. "This is a rare treat. I haven't had oysters since my first journey away from Citadel Adbar. And we haven't been able to enjoy a proper meal since we started our journey here."

He continues as they walk, "I am looking forward to hearing what Kezzel has to say about the surrounding area as well as my great-grandfather's axe."

OOC:
Okay I am going to assume Egret went out to meet with Feliani as he, Brindel, and Lex were all allowed to stay in the garrison for free, and the grub is fairly decent as well. Once Lex chimes in I will move this thread forward but again no rush.

I was hoping to see a post by Lex but I figured I would get this moving forward and they can jump in when they can
After gathering together at the bridge the group heads back into the old stone fort having made an appointment with Kezzel during the previous day along with finding out where he could be found. They head down the stairs to the right off the main hall which goes down and then curves back around to the right such that they are headed in the opposite direction then they started. The stone stairway eventually opens into a large windowless stone room with all manner of bubbling concoctions and on numerous tables. Of to the left can be seen a cloth covered table with small wooden boxes, four to a side, arranged around it.

Kezzel looks up from something he is working on and calls out, "Table is over dare," he gestures towards the cloth covered table, "I be a joinin' ya in wee moment."

After the group gets to the table and has settled down some Kezzel walks over wiping his hands seemingly with air although spell casters will recognize the cantrip he is using. "Wonderful, wonderful dis be so wonderful." He sits down and begins partaking in the food that was brought, "So ware shall we begin, me new friends."

"We should start with a prayer," says Brindel, bowing his head. "Lord Gorm Gulthun, as we nourish our bodies, may we also nourish our minds. Thank you for your watchful eye and guidance in the past and may we honor you in struggles yet to come."

Brindel raises his head and says to everyone, "That was one of my father's favorites."

Feliani was pleased with the fact that the dinner was finally in place. It gave her an opportunity to visit the main inns and their proprietors, and with a big of help from Egret's coin, and a much lighter coin pouch of her own, she finally managed to put together all the food that Kezzel recommended.

"You can start by telling us more about these recommendations of yours." Feliani spoke after Brindel's prayer.
Mar 25, 2020 3:18 pm
Without looking up from preparing a piece of bread Kezzel responds, "Recommendations ya say? What recommendations do you be speakin of?" He does not seem like he is being coy, but perhaps more like he might have actually forgotten what Feliani is speaking of.

OOC:
@Everyone: my bad, sorry Corona virus and looking after kids etc...
Lex hurriedly rushes to catch up to everyone.

Sorry I'm late everyone he blurts out in the middle of Brindel's prayer. When they all stop and turn to look at him.
What? he says cluelessly

No worries, it's a busy time for everyone! Hope you're doing okay!
Egret listens to Brindel's words with a sense of respect, as well as an acknowledgement of his own lack of understanding. He never was a person to devote himself to any deity, not to an extent some others did, and he probably doesn't have the same piety towards the gods his dwarven companion does. But he appreaciates the meaning in the words, the one they have for Brindel. If it is important for the dwarf, then the prayer has value in Egret's eyes, regardless on his feelings about Gorm Gulthun - or lack thereof.

When Lex rushes into the room, Egret simply smiles, nodding to the seat next to him. "We were just about to start, Alexander."

Okay FlyingSucculent I did not quite understand your last post -- Egret is a Druid which means he uses Divine Magic which comes for the Patron that he is dedicated too???
Mar 27, 2020 8:09 am
OOC:
That's why I wrote "not to an extent some others did"; I meant more religious devotion. As in, following rituals, traditions, etc. Egret may use divine magic, but he isn't devoted to the god it comes from to the point he'd actually fight for this faith. Does it make sense? He accepts that magic comes from a deity, but he's not exactly a worshipper, per se. (Sorry if it is a bit weird for the world, but I get really uncomfortable with religious matters.)

If it helps any FlyingSucculent I do not even equate the game mechanics to real world aspects -- to me magic is just another form of science where A + B = C kind of thing and that goes for Arcane or Divine the only difference is Arcane's source is a mystical weave of energy and the Divine's source is that same mystical weave of energy only filtered. They are not "gods" which is why I call them Patrons instead they are just super powerful beings (think Que Consortium if that helps) within this setting that have the ability to funnel and filter energy to those who are loyal to them and willing to follow their ideals. Basically I completely divorce reality from fantasy and try to look at how those mechanics work then I role play that. If I am a cleric my character is the devoted one not I but then I keep this in mind when role-playing that character as to how they would act and think --- still its up to you how you want to work out that your character has a Patron that grants them powers that they can use as long as they adhere to the Patron's ideals.

"I simply meant that you were very specific in what items would constitute a tasty dinner such as what is spread before us. So I was curious to know if there was any significance to them?" Feliani waited patiently for the honored guest to start the meal before joining in.
Mar 29, 2020 2:40 pm
"Ah..." he looks over and about the table, "deze are mighty fine batch of eatables meant to be puttin' me inna good mood shud I not be. Which I be assumin' means dare be tings you all be needin Dat me being in a good mood wood help to facilitate." He touches the pot containing the oysters and steam rises from it. Then a pair of clawed tongs appear in his hand he pulls out a few steaming oysters and places them in a bowl but leaves the rather long handled tongs within the bowl apparently for others to use.

"Well then, being as honest as I can be, I merely wanted to return the favour for your being the friendliest face to a newcomer like myself. It also appeared to me that you seemed knowledgeable and perhaps more forthright in matters the others might feel more constrained to share. I'd like to know about the dangers this town faces, its secrets, who we should trust, and what dangers lurk beyond the walls."
Mar 29, 2020 3:25 pm
Kezzel does not pause in is food preparations and seems to reply almost offhandedly, "First I tank ya lassy fer dat compliment. But yee be askin some mighty difficult question. I be tinkin' itta take a verrry loong time ta be listin all da dangers dis town kood be a facin'. Ferter iffin day be truly secrets why wood you be tinkin I be knowin' dem? An' lastly da dangers outside da walls arrre ev'n moorrr dan doze dat kood be a facin' da town. So lassy what is it dat ya rrreally wantin' ta know? And be keepin in mind I not be all knowin'"

Just posting to show signs of life; I'm content with Feliani leading the dialogue. XD

Also, Joker, on the topic of devotion: Egret as a character isn't very suited to be passionate about faith, the magic-as-science outlook you described fits him much better. :D I meant something along these lines by my post, not complete disregard of his patron deity. Sorry if it was unclear!
Egret listens to the conversation while looking around - he seems more interested in the room's interior and all the conconctions and equipment set up near the walls, rather than the delicious dishes in his immediate vicinity. Almost absent-mindely he picks up a slice of bread, probably planning to nibble on it for the entire dinner; or at least until he notices the peppers. If he remembers.
