I will open it here letting those going to see ole Kezzel a chance to chime in.Feb 17, 2020 11:22 am
With all the items purchased and assembled, including the oysters, Feliani carried them, together with whomever else was accompanying her up to the Garrison entrance. It was a hassle, but she was getting used to it, to check her weapons in. She was good-humoured enough to see what Kezzel had in mind with his very specific food items to have a proper meal. If nothing else, she had paid to have a conversation with the gnome whilst partaking in a meal together.
OOC:
I thought the oysters were only going to be ready by noon.Feb 18, 2020 1:19 am
Egret followed after Feliani's lead, appearing chipper and enthusiastic - either he was well-rested, or just excited to see the gnome, or maybe both. He pointed out some plants in the area while Feliani was checking in her weapons, and continued idly chatting on their way inside, not caring if he was being listened to or not. He did grew quieter when they entered the building, clearly still intimidated by it, but even then didn't lose his good spirit and was beaming at all the guards they passed by. Probably to their confusion.

Okay I had the impression that both Brindel and Lex were going to be joining this I just assumed they were holding off until the shopping trip was completed -- which I believe has completed for BrindelMar 4, 2020 6:53 am
"Hail, Feliani and Egret," Brindel says with a warm smile as the two enter the garrison. "This is a rare treat. I haven't had oysters since my first journey away from Citadel Adbar. And we haven't been able to enjoy a proper meal since we started our journey here."
He continues as they walk, "I am looking forward to hearing what Kezzel has to say about the surrounding area as well as my great-grandfather's axe."

Okay I am going to assume Egret went out to meet with Feliani as he, Brindel, and Lex were all allowed to stay in the garrison for free, and the grub is fairly decent as well. Once Lex chimes in I will move this thread forward but again no rush.Mar 24, 2020 5:52 pm

I was hoping to see a post by Lex but I figured I would get this moving forward and they can jump in when they canKezzel looks up from something he is working on and calls out, "Table is over dare," he gestures towards the cloth covered table, "I be a joinin' ya in wee moment."
After the group gets to the table and has settled down some Kezzel walks over wiping his hands seemingly with air although spell casters will recognize the cantrip he is using. "Wonderful, wonderful dis be so wonderful." He sits down and begins partaking in the food that was brought, "So ware shall we begin, me new friends."
Mar 24, 2020 7:42 pm
"We should start with a prayer," says Brindel, bowing his head. "Lord Gorm Gulthun, as we nourish our bodies, may we also nourish our minds. Thank you for your watchful eye and guidance in the past and may we honor you in struggles yet to come."
Brindel raises his head and says to everyone, "That was one of my father's favorites."

Feliani was pleased with the fact that the dinner was finally in place. It gave her an opportunity to visit the main inns and their proprietors, and with a big of help from Egret's coin, and a much lighter coin pouch of her own, she finally managed to put together all the food that Kezzel recommended.
"You can start by telling us more about these recommendations of yours." Feliani spoke after Brindel's prayer.

Mar 25, 2020 3:18 pm
Without looking up from preparing a piece of bread Kezzel responds, "Recommendations ya say? What recommendations do you be speakin of?" He does not seem like he is being coy, but perhaps more like he might have actually forgotten what Feliani is speaking of.

No worries, it's a busy time for everyone! Hope you're doing okay! When Lex rushes into the room, Egret simply smiles, nodding to the seat next to him. "We were just about to start, Alexander."

Okay FlyingSucculent I did not quite understand your last post -- Egret is a Druid which means he uses Divine Magic which comes for the Patron that he is dedicated too???Mar 27, 2020 8:09 am
OOC:
That's why I wrote "not to an extent some others did"; I meant more religious devotion. As in, following rituals, traditions, etc. Egret may use divine magic, but he isn't devoted to the god it comes from to the point he'd actually fight for this faith. Does it make sense? He accepts that magic comes from a deity, but he's not exactly a worshipper, per se. (Sorry if it is a bit weird for the world, but I get really uncomfortable with religious matters.)Last edited March 27, 2020 8:10 am

OOC:
If it helps any FlyingSucculent I do not even equate the game mechanics to real world aspects -- to me magic is just another form of science where A + B = C kind of thing and that goes for Arcane or Divine the only difference is Arcane's source is a mystical weave of energy and the Divine's source is that same mystical weave of energy only filtered. They are not "gods" which is why I call them Patrons instead they are just super powerful beings (think Que Consortium if that helps) within this setting that have the ability to funnel and filter energy to those who are loyal to them and willing to follow their ideals. Basically I completely divorce reality from fantasy and try to look at how those mechanics work then I role play that. If I am a cleric my character is the devoted one not I but then I keep this in mind when role-playing that character as to how they would act and think --- still its up to you how you want to work out that your character has a Patron that grants them powers that they can use as long as they adhere to the Patron's ideals.Mar 28, 2020 1:37 pm
"I simply meant that you were very specific in what items would constitute a tasty dinner such as what is spread before us. So I was curious to know if there was any significance to them?" Feliani waited patiently for the honored guest to start the meal before joining in.
Mar 29, 2020 2:40 pm
"Ah..." he looks over and about the table, "deze are mighty fine batch of eatables meant to be puttin' me inna good mood shud I not be. Which I be assumin' means dare be tings you all be needin Dat me being in a good mood wood help to facilitate." He touches the pot containing the oysters and steam rises from it. Then a pair of clawed tongs appear in his hand he pulls out a few steaming oysters and places them in a bowl but leaves the rather long handled tongs within the bowl apparently for others to use.

"Well then, being as honest as I can be, I merely wanted to return the favour for your being the friendliest face to a newcomer like myself. It also appeared to me that you seemed knowledgeable and perhaps more forthright in matters the others might feel more constrained to share. I'd like to know about the dangers this town faces, its secrets, who we should trust, and what dangers lurk beyond the walls."
Mar 29, 2020 3:25 pm
Kezzel does not pause in is food preparations and seems to reply almost offhandedly, "First I tank ya lassy fer dat compliment. But yee be askin some mighty difficult question. I be tinkin' itta take a verrry loong time ta be listin all da dangers dis town kood be a facin'. Ferter iffin day be truly secrets why wood you be tinkin I be knowin' dem? An' lastly da dangers outside da walls arrre ev'n moorrr dan doze dat kood be a facin' da town. So lassy what is it dat ya rrreally wantin' ta know? And be keepin in mind I not be all knowin'"

Just posting to show signs of life; I'm content with Feliani leading the dialogue. XDAlso, Joker, on the topic of devotion: Egret as a character isn't very suited to be passionate about faith, the magic-as-science outlook you described fits him much better. :D I meant something along these lines by my post, not complete disregard of his patron deity. Sorry if it was unclear!

Also, a trait of Brindel's is being polite and respectful. He doesn't want to interrupt a conversation."First, and most important of all: thank you, Kezzel, for hosting this dinner. I do not believe we were properly introduced the other day. My name is Brindel Truehand of Citadel Adbar. I am a paladin of Gorm Gulthun and I humbly ask for your assistance in discovering information about my battleaxe." He points to the weapon leaning against a wall near the table. "The battleaxe is an inheritance from my great-grandfather, Thearden the Shining, another paladin devoted to Gorm Gulthun. My great-grandfather was cursed by a priest of a malevolent god and was forced to stay in our mountain homeland, as were his sons and grandsons."
"Kustaa said the runes on the battleaxe have significance. I would be grateful for any knowledge you can share with me."

Lex complexion pales as the colour drains from his scales. His tail coils up between his legs and he blushes.
If he were a human he might look as if he'd been caught with his pants down.
I don't know what you're...
Oh to heck with it. You are very observant, friend Kezzel. I am not a dragonborn. I am human. However, I would very much appreciate it if you kept this knowledge to yourself. Some very bad people would pay a lot of money to find me and I wish to avoid confronting them at all costs. Our last encounter was quite destructive. his eyes light up excitedly for a moment as he remembers the feel.of the flames. Then they return to normal and he continues
Innocent people got hurt and I would not like that to happen again!

Ah, this? Lex says gesturing towards his body. I am an alchemist by trade. I was approached by my guild to create a new recipe for a fire resistance potion. The er, results, exceeded all of our expectations. However, the full effects of my new formula are not fully understood. It may be dangerous. I have certainly felt, he pauses for a moment to look for the right words an increased disposition towards fire. I shiver to think what would happen if my formula fell into the wrong hands.

Seeing that the others had also struck up a conversation with Kezzel, Feliani ceased feeling overly concerned that she was the only one who truly wanted to meet him. She appreciated the different agendas that they brought to the metaphorical table, and decided to add her own into the mix. "I'm going to ask a more sensitive question, and trust the discretion of all those gathered here. Kezzel, do you know of the various factions operating in this city? Which are they? And do you know any of them? In return I promise to keep this information in strictest confidence."

"Eye sorrry me lassy, dat tis not sumtin I be a dealin in. I spends most me time down hare." He waves his hand in a manner that seems to indicate the entirety of the room they are in. "But I do know dat da paladins be a keepin a close eye on dat as well as makin sure dis place stays peaceful like."

Lex thinks for a moment. Clearly in turmoil. His moral self battling with his academic self. He thinks to himself.
I wasn't born with the ability to use magic. It is also one of the effects of imbibing my potion. What might happen if it fell into the wrong hands? Entire armies of magic weilding dragon-looking soldiers. It might spell the end of the world. But if he could help...? No, I can't take the risk
I'm not having any particular problems with my potion. But I do have aspirations to become a great alchemist. To that end I would love to study the magical flaura and fauna of the surrounding area. To start with, I would love to know where to find the ingredients required to make healing potions. I think the garrison could really use some and that would help to establish my reputation. What do you think?

Hearing the conversation turn towards plants, Egret visibly perks up, his gaze turning back towards Kezzel. The tiefling's tail twitches behind him, showing carefully contained excitement. "And speaking of plants, master Kezzel, do you know of any endemic flora or fauna native to these lands? Or perhaps any druids in the area? I heard about someone called Tagd living not that far away and having a talent in natural magic..." he trails off, not sure how to voice questions he has about that person. He settles on letting Kezzel figure out what information to divulge himself.

OOC:
I have added the guidelines to making Healing Potions to House Rules -- what is required to make one I did not change as denoted (in PHB) anyone who knows how to use a Herablist Kit can make the Healing Potion -- I just added details to the basic recipe as well as expanded that using stuff from Xanathar's Guide"Eye dare be quite a few plawnts native ta dis rrregion, an' I and Tagd 'ave been worrkin' on catalogin' dese. I am particularly interrrested in gettin' sum giant bee honey an' while not plawnt it be comin frum a plawnt."
Apr 7, 2020 9:30 am
"Giant bee honey you say?" Feliani made a mental note. It seemed like she was always on a trek to acquire things for Kezzel.
Apr 7, 2020 2:52 pm
"Aye da be a ways away doe, as da nest in da cliffs near da mountains, iffin you be willin to gatter me sum of dat honey I cun provide ya with a bee bomb dat will keep dem at bay for a while. I tink a small barrel of it would be sufficient ta start wit but if you wanna gatter more dat be fine too. I just wood ratter not kill da bees as dat mite deter future supplies."
Apr 8, 2020 6:04 am
"You have to admire bees; they're the hardest working bugs I've ever seen. I traveled several times with my cousin, Khelgrout Orelight, to a bee farm outside of Citadel Adbar. He brews a honey moss ale that combines the bitter and the sweet for an unforgettable taste."
Apr 8, 2020 4:51 pm
"I would be glad to assist in that endeavor as a way of paying you back, Kezzel, for your assistance with with battleaxe."
Apr 8, 2020 5:36 pm
"Aye dat wood be good, an perrrhaps yer frrrien' 'ear," he gestures towards Lex, "will hep me wit makin' doze bee bombs and takin' an initial look at dat ax."
Apr 9, 2020 11:46 pm
"If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to see your records on the local flora later, master Kezzel," Egret added during a lull in conversation. "And perhaps you can provide directions to Tagd's abode? I believe it might be beneficial to know where we can find an ally out there," he smiled. "Folks at the inn weren't very specific."

"Excuse me, Kezzel, but your latest request has caused me to consider that we may be of assistance sooner rather than later. Tomorrow, we are heading into the swamp. Do you have any need for swamp plants? We would be glad to retrieve them for you if it doesn't interfere or delay our main scouting mission."

"It sounds as good as these oysters taste," says Brindel, gently taking another one. "I wasn't sure if I would like them, but I do."
Apr 22, 2020 8:27 am
The dinner continues with Kezzel asking some questions about the groups recent travels and how things were going back in the regions from whence they came. The dinner however eventually wound down to a close and Kezzel thanked them for the wondrous meal and their most pleasant company. "Well there are things to get done, so I must excuse myself. Do not worry about the table it will be taken care of. Come and bring the ax," he motioned Lex to follow, "we have much to do." He moved over to a shelf contain numerous jars and began pointing at some of them and over to and empty-ish table where upon they seemed to just float off the shelves of their own accord and settle upon the table which was in the process of clearing itself. Kezzel stared at the ax for a bit as if in thought, cast a spell unfamiliar to Lex and eight runes appeared in blue upon the ax head. Kezzel asked Lex if he saw it but Lex was not sure what he meant, then Kezzel explained, the red tint at the edges of the runes. With the explanation and a closer examination Lex could indeed perceive that nearly imperceptible thin red tinge at the edges of the blue. Kezzel explained that the red tinge along with eight symbols meant some kind of dark chaos magic had been infused into the normal magic associated with the weapon. This meant trying to figure out what the blade was about would take much more time and cautious investigation as sometimes these things had traps woven into them as well. Still there were a few things they might be able to establish safely. However, one of them needed to get started on the bee bombs, so Kezzel lead Lex over to yet another table and instructed him to start reducing these bags of herbs (Thuja Leaves and Deadnettle) which came floating up along with a pair cauldrons filled with water. Kezzel instructed him to be sure to stir them periodically. He was also told that in between stirring Kezzel wanted him to powder this stone (Trona Ore) which also floated up along with a small hammer and a mortar and pestle. Then Kezzel went back to working with the ax but returned occasionally to check on Lex's progress. Everything is concluded by late evening and Kezzel places a vial of clear liquid into a flask filled with five equally combined powders. The three that Lex produced and two others that Kezzel supplied that were thoroughly blended and then a sixth a white crystalline powder that Kezzel called Demon Crystals which he blended a small measure (about 3oz) of into the five powders by carefully and slowly stirring it using a glass stick.
Once all the work was completed Kezzel handed the two flasks to Lex along with the ax stating that Lex should tell Brindel that if he was sure he wanted to activate the magic within the ax his first step would be to kill undead and demons with it. For once it had absorb enough of their essence the first rune will have turned completely blue. At this point the opening or releasing will have been completed and this and several days would allow Kezzel to get a better reading on what would need to be done next.
