snapperw81 Character Discussions

Mar 16, 2020 5:02 pm
This thread is for discussing snapperw81's character please do not post anything here that is not related to snapperw81's character and yes collaborating with snapperw81 is consider fair postings.

Please make your rolls in here and outline what your are doing so that I can give you feedback on the world. Do note though this game borrows heavily from the Forgotten Realms so you can use information from that setting to outline your background.

Sounds good.

Edit: rolls look pretty good. Dropping lowest, I've got: 14, 15, 18, 16, 16, 16. Decent spread. Thinking about running a druid for this campaign as something different, and I am open to suggestions if that doesn't fit well within your world. I'm new and don't want to run a very complicated class to start in 5e.

Okay sure but Druids in this game still must be one of the accepted alignments (aka NN is not available) other than that Druids are fine

Okay, I will do some digging and see what I can come up with. I may switch it up and run a fighter perhaps too.

Druids can be any of the available alignments in DnD5e as there is no longer an alignment restriction to that class and you might find this class interesting in the setting but fighters work too

I did not know that about the alignment. Ok, I'll run a druid then. Should have something hashed out by tonight or tomorrow. I work in a hospital so I'm kinda hectic, but not terrible (Not a nurse).

Note once you get to that point can you supply a break down mostly of gear outlining what your class started with, I added the outlined spoiler to your last post so you can either up date that one or copy and paste it into a new post

I'm going with the Outlander background. Instead of proficiency with a musical instrument, could I make the argument to be proficient in poisoner's kit? Here's my reasoning: he's a druid, he understands nature and that some creatures/plants are venomous/poisonous, and he could use the poison to fell larger beasts he's hunting.

Well you would be treading on thin ice as poisons are generally considered to be evil especially when used on humanoids and not much better when used on animals especially by a Druid.

Still that will kind of depend on what kind of poisons you plan to be creating. Damaging/Killing poisons are definitely not good and barely neutral. However poisons that just incapacitate or hinder I do not have a problem with per-sae

Just keep in mind that most lawful civilized societies view poison and those that use it to be highly suspect and some consider it out right criminal so like I said treading on thin ice but it could be why you wanted to come out into the sticks far from those civilized societies.

Further you will have to acquire your own recipes and reagents as well as have some place where you can refine it but you could purchase a few recipes (your not really buying them and this is just reflecting the resource you used to acquire those recipes). Further I will have to deal with each on a case by case basis. I have something on poisons somewhere in my treasure trove of materials that can help with this so let me know if I should be looking it up. On a positive note poisons do work like poisons in my world -- one dose might not affect the target but 20 doses delivered one right after the next well that is quite a different story.

That sounds entirely fair on the idea. I think I will steer clear of them. What sounded good in my head didn't really pan out like I was thinking. No worries. I'm working on finishing up the gear list and should have it done soon.
Mar 25, 2020 2:13 am
Well can I ask what you were thinking perhaps?

Using the poisons to hunt beasts in the wild. Using a paralytic poison on a bear to then be able to slit its throat in order to save more of the hide instead of shooting it with several arrows or slashing it with a scimitar repeatedly to kill it.

Had another question: what is the cost of a masterwork or a +1 weapon here? I didn't see anything for that on the shop catalog you linked. If it's not available for me to purchase, it's all good. I'll work to find one in the story somewhere down the road.
Mar 25, 2020 3:28 pm
Its under House Rules (under the Armor section right now will be adding a weapon section later) -- as Masterwork is more than just a +1 To Hit -- masterwork is now pretty much replacing the current magical bonuses To Hit and Damage. The cost of Masterwork is for each +1 you add to a weapon the price goes up be +x5 so to add a +1 To Hit and +1 Damage (or basically a full +1 Masterwork) cost x10 the price of the base weapon. The maximum you can acquire this way is a full +2 Masterwork weapon (+2 To Hit +2 Damage) for x20 the cost of the base weapon

Hope I did that all correctly. I did end up with like 20 extra gold at the end, so I just left myself with 10. Also, let me know if I forgot something in my gear so I can make some changes if I need to.

snapperw81 can you please update me with your status?

Things got a little crazy over the last week at the hospital. I feel like I've got all the character stuff down in notes, I just need to put it on the character sheet here. I don't have a long day today at work, so I should be able to get everything up tonight.

Okay thanks for the reply
