Episode 1 Scene 1 : The Arrival

Apr 14, 2020 6:39 am
The trip to Far Reach was long and fraught with peril. On more than one occasion those being employed to protect the caravan definitely earned their keep be it wages at journeys end or safer passage to Boareskyr Bridge. However the last leg of the journey proved to be the worst. For upon the constantly wind swept fields of the Sky Plateau the group was set upon by a large contingency of raiders. It took a massive effort upon the protectors behalf to finally repel them leaving many badly wounded and a few dead. Still the caravan was able to make the safety of Titan's Cleave. It was rumored that a Titan's Great Sword had created the break in the Sky Plateau and it appeared that the rumor may have well been true for it resembled a jagged gaping wound. Still from there forward the most dangerous element was just the occasional falling rock as the caravan descended down through Titan's Cleave into the valley of Far Reach.

As the caravan begins moving out of the Cleave and into the valley proper one could see the fabled Boareskyr Bridge in the distance and next it the rather ramshackle town that rests at its southern end. The warmth of the valley was quite noticeable compared to the colder air of the Sky Plateau and one could imagine that at times it might actually get uncomfortably warm at times. Still the weather in the valley seemed to be pleasant enough right now and the grassy hills the caravan travels through seems peaceful enough. One could easily tell when one was getting close to the village as even a few farmhouses had already sprung up indicating that some protection was given to the region immediately south of the village.

Upon arrival just short of the town but in sight of the large wooden sign labeled "Southbridge Village" the caravan pauses for inspection. A small contingency of archers flank the caravan on either side while four seasoned looking veterans walk the length of the caravan two a side and a fifth with a writing board speaks with the caravan master up front. Their surcoats over their chain mail denote them as followers of different deities. The one up front who is obviously a well-groomed Tiefling wears an equally fine surcoat of Kelemvor while one of the walkers who is obviously a Dragonborn wears the surcoat of Bahamut, next to him is a Human wearing the surcoat of Torm, on the otherside is an Elf wearing the surcoat of Correllon and along side him a Half-Elf wearing the surcoat of Lathander. While a mixed group of dieties even the most unknowledgable in religion would easily note that they are all dieties associated with law and order. Perhaps these were some of the actual seven Paladins that are rumored to be the anchor of government and safety here.
Apr 14, 2020 6:39 am
On their walk back up from the rear of the caravan the Dragonborn states in Humanish in a deep booming voice that is easily heard by all. "We here welcome you all to Southbridge Village. Please refrain from excessive rowdiness as that may get you a visit to our wonderful stockade. If any of you are planning to stay on please report to the garrison in the next few days as all long term residents are expected to actively help with the defenses of the village. Other than that we hope you enjoy your stay here in Southbridge Village."
OOC:
If any of you wish to explore the village let me know otherwise we can assume have agreed to go to the garrison straight away upon arrival to hopefully be the first from this caravan so you can get the best potential assignments or maybe word of someone looking for some adventurers to solve a problem for them.
Apr 14, 2020 4:15 pm
Ashton who is a halfling with long brown hair and who I assume is driving his own carriage gets the Dragonborn's attention and asks "I would like a space to set up may stage to provide some entertainment in this fine city. Would you have a recommendation of a place to do so?"
Apr 14, 2020 4:19 pm
"The open marketplace is where you would do that although you will need to stable the animal while within the village, after of course you have positioned your rig."
Apr 14, 2020 4:31 pm
Carric, a non-assuming looking Wood Elf with brown hair. He looks a bit uncomfortable in the city, kind of like a animal out of his natural habitat. He will look to the dragonborn The garrison is fine by me. I have no need to purchase anything. Which direction is it?
Apr 14, 2020 4:35 pm
"The garrison is through the main gate, take a right and follow the road to the fort you cannot miss it... hopefully."
Apr 14, 2020 5:37 pm
"Not to take up much more of your very important time but is the market place on the way to the Garrison? Also which Inn do you and your comrades prefer?"
OOC:
What time of day is it? Are people out and about?

Bazrugh watches the inspection detail with a close red eye, while subconsciously fiddling with the holy symbol of Ilmater around his neck. Many, many times have people reacted aggressively at the initial sight of him. It is the way it is being a Yroc. Usually, when traveling with non-Yrocs, things don't immediately devolve into violence.

As the inspectors pass him by, Bazrugh realizes how tense his body is. He shakes his head, 'Always expecting the worst from people,' he thinks to himself. He shakes himself loose, and gathers his gear.

"Hopefully not greenskins," Bazrugh says to Maethion's question.

As Bazrugh makes his way to the front of the caravan, he puts his shield on his left arm. If people don't notice the amulet around his neck, they should at least see the symbol of Ilmater, pair of white hands bound by a red cord painted, on his shield. The seven foot tall Yroc pauses at the front of the caravan, looking towards Southbridge Village.

Bazrugh hears the dragonborn's reply to Carric, as he was about to ask the same question. He leaves the caravan, walking towards the town's gates.

Bazrugh looks over his shoulder to see where his new companions were. Seeing them heading to the garrison, he stops and waits for them.

In a deep gravelly voice, he asks, "where was yous gonna ta set up, Ashton?".
Apr 18, 2020 3:36 am
Ashton heads off after Bazrugh.

Ashton rides his wagon up next to Bazrugh, who I imagine is still just as tall as Ashton even though Ashton is it tiny on his wagon and Bazrugh is walking. "Let’s see if we find a good place on our way to the garrison. After we take care of our business there I’ll find an Inn where I can stable the horse and set everything up. As always I would appreciate your help setting everything up."

Bazrugh nods his head in agreement, "I'll keeps a eye out. Canna ya keep Dallas atta garrison?" Bazrugh walks beside Ashton, as they make their way to the garrison. He is paying attention to the layout of the town, where the people where they go, come from and gather.
OOC:

Milli stumbles out from the middle of the caravan, along with some clanging as a couple tankards spill onto the ground from her lopsided bag. After some apologetic grunts, she stuffs the mugs back in her bag, shoulders it sideways, and leads her horse after Ashton and Bazrugh.

As she passes the paladin-looking fellas, she scans their surcoats quickly before her mouth twitches. She gives them a "Good Day" before shuffling past them, pointing vaguely that she's with the travelers up ahead.

"Oi, Ashton, wait up would ya?" She calls after Ashton and Bazrugh as they make their way into town. Milli hurries to catch up with them.
Apr 21, 2020 1:18 pm
Ashton slows somewhat confused because he thought Milli was passed out in his wagon and doesn’t know when he lost track of her. But he doesn’t stop but does slow the pace of the wagon so she can easily catch up. When she does catch up Ashton tells her "We were just looking for a spot to set up. Let me know if you see a good one."

It does not take the group, in general, long to enter through the ramshackle looking gate. Although, up close one can obviously see that the gates and the wall are actually quite sturdy they just appear to be shoddy due to their non-uniform lengths and widths. Still the gates are not the first thing one notices as they get near as an odor wafts out to greet them first. The strong scent of animals, manure, cooking, campfire smoke, and earth all mix together creating a none civilized smell that while pungent is not necessarily unpleasant, especially for those who prefer outdoor living versus city living. The dirt packed streets are lined with make-shift board walks making it obvious that when the streets get wet they might not be easily navigable. The semi-sea of kaleidoscopic tents seem to make up the bulk of the interior accompanied by the din of the marketplace that they represent. Off in the distance rising above these tents like majestic wooden towers stand five wooden structures the signs hanging from them, due to their shape as they are too far away to make out clearly, indicating that they were Inns. The fact that these flat roofed structures actually stand taller than the walls lends to the sense that perhaps they are even used as towers when needed. The road stretches out in front of them as well as going off to the right and there is a well worn path off to the left that seems to lead to one of the Inns. There is an Inn to their left and one to their right, another further down and to their left, and yet another even further down and to their left, the last appears to be directly across the near center of the central marketplace. Several guards stand just inside the gate holding halberds and then of course the various vendors and customers of the marketplace are milling about near by.

At the gate Ashton is stopped by the guards, "State the nature of your business."
OOC:
Note I am assuming Carric, Bazrugh and Milluznaul wait while Ashton takes care of business if not just post that you continue on down the street.
Apr 23, 2020 1:55 pm
Ashton responds to the guard with a smile and a jovial attitude "We have traveled all the way here in hopes of finding merriment, coin and venture."
OOC:
Out of curiosity why did I get stopped at the gates?

Ashton seems to be having a difficult time getting his idea across, "Okay? If you are not a vendor then you will have to park that wagon outside or negotiate with the Nag Inn," he points off to his right, "to stow it by the stables."
Apr 23, 2020 4:47 pm
Ashton thinks for a moment then respond to the guard "I am actually a vendor but what I sell isn’t something to hold but rather behold! Once I get setup come stop by and see if you aren’t astonished or at the very least impressed! I do think we will stop by the Nag on our way there to see about lodging for us and the horses."

Then turning to others, "Are you going to check out the garrison or would you like to accompany me? Maybe we could see about finding us somewhere to stay while we are here.

Milli stayed with Ashton and replies: "Of course I'll accompany you, I think we'll be able to find somewhere nice to stay that keeps the brews flowin'."
