Wilson and Marie having completed their training with Uncle Joseph headed out in search of LeMarche and to check into maybe what Wilson's father had been investigating prior to his death. They had headed up to Fouke, Arkansas to check out some stories about some creature spotted around Boggy Creek. That, and there had been some reference to LeMarche having been spotted there in the past. However upon arrival, they were greeted by a telegraph addressed to both of them asking them to "Please meet me in Hope Arkansas". Well that was strange enough to have the two of them both decide to alter their plans since as far as they both knew no one besides themselves knew they had been headed to Fouke let alone knew that they had arrived on that specific day. So who could possibly have sent them a telegraph?

Hope turned out to only be a couple of days ride north of Fouke a rather normalish small town that consisted of a general store, a blacksmith's barn with small stable and a sheriff's office. The general store doubled as the local saloon with tables located outside under a lean-to. As they sat down to have a drink to clear the trail dust from their throats they saw a rather unusual looking man approaching from the barn with a rather determined gate. To say he was short would have been an understatement as he could not stood more than four and half feet tall at best and yet he was not a dwarf either, just really short. Further he was dressed in a long green coat with a rather large green hat which was perhaps half as tall as he was. The green was contrasted by a very large yellow bow tie and bright orange hair that stuck like an aura around his face.

As he got closer he pulled out a perhaps six inch diameter golden pocket watch on a hefty sized bronze chain which he opens and consults as he says, "Goood, goood yee arrre right on time, thee otherrrs shood be 'ear sooon." He looks to the proprietor and says, "Tea please," as he puts the over-sized pocket watch back inside his coat then pulls out a round green disc about the same size as the watch but flatter and holding it parallel to the ground gives it a sort of short snapping downward pop and a brass looking post drops down creating a stool with a foot rest that would allow him to comfortable sit at the table at the same eye level. "I be imaginnin ya be hav'n quite few quessions and rrrest assurrred I be anserrin 'em all sooon enuff." He then gives the two of them a pleasant smile which with all things considered might be a little disconcerting. "Til den, please be enjoyen ya drrrinks. On me."

When the proprietor returns with some tea, the man says, "We will be need'n one more chair." To which the proprietor just nods and then moves another chair over to the table the three are currently sitting at. Shortly after the proprietor leaves a man can be seen riding into town from the far end and he makes his way to the stables. It is not long after this that the man then walks from the stables towards the table with a questioning look on his face. The green-suited man sets his tea down on the table and checks his over-sized pocket watch which can be seen to not actually be a pocket watch at all but some strange contraption with whirring gears, twirling balls and spinning circles. "Goood, goood, yee arre right on time." He says to the perplexed man, "Please 'ave a seat we 'ave mooch to be discussin."
OOC:
Figured I would give you all a chance to chime from the point of view of your character with the events to this point -- thoughts and such -- John you are the man that just arrived and went to the barn where the blacksmith upon your entry asked if you were Ranger John Love and then informed you that a man had requested to meet you over at the general store for drinks

It's been a strange month or two, and every day makes it stranger. Burke isn't happy about how this has been going, and he's not one to be ok with his life changing against his control. This man's telegram summoning him to some nowhere burg this far out of his way has put him in a foul mood. Fortunately, it's not often he gets to drink on the tab of another. "Well, you are a strange little fella, ain'tcha? I'd appreciate it if we got to the point quickly, I'd like not to be in the ass end of nowhere for very long." He waves over the bartender. "A water and a whiskey, the good stuff if you'd be so kind. Our friend here is feeling downright charitable."

"I admit that you have my interest piqued, cher. I'll have a whiskey as well, monsieur." she looks to the barkeep.

It had been a long, not to mention strange ride, and Bob was feeling the wear of the road. As he sized up the group at the table he didn't know what to make of it. John Love looks at the short man in the odd looking green suit, "You the fella what's been callin' fer me?"
Jun 8, 2020 7:42 pm
"Eye mista John dat I be. 'Oweva dare taint alotta time to be mullin o'errr dat." He takes one more look at his gizmo before closing it up and putting back into his coat. "Nope not enuff time, so firrrst I be Prrrofessa Oliverrr T. Crrrick but please jus' cull me Ollee. Now me colleague Prrrofessa Snicket an'tie 'ave found wot appearrrs ta be a serrries oov eevents dat tif not dealt twith will prrrove most unforrrtunate ferrr da whole worrrld. Luckly we also found a means ta deal wit dese eevents dat at least 'as a prrrobable chance oov success. Dis means dat we found, tis either da trrree of you or it involves da trrree of you, Prreacha Burke," he gestures to Wilson, "Lady Cheveau," he gestures to Marie, "and you Range John Love." He looks at John. "Now," he looks to the group as a whole, "wot exactly dis means, we'rrre not chur. We just know it envolves da trrree of you. Now I be hopin' dat my ability to 'ave ascerrrtained yerrr space-time continuum composition, orrr simply put wharrr yee will be at a parrrticula time beforrre yee eeven arrrive, is sufficient evidence dat arrr stochastic algorrrithms arrr highly accurrrate and arrr claims while seemingly perrr'aps farrr fetched 'ave a solid basis to warrrant at least an investigation oov da findin's dat we 'ave made. To which brrrings us 'ear." He holds his forearms out palms up. "Yee see we wish ta initially 'igherrr yo ta prrrotect me while we investigate da firrrst of dese eevents. If it prrroves to have substance, den I hope we cun cunvince yee ta sign on ferrr a longerrr stint and investigate the rrremainin' probable eevents." He pauses and looks at each of you then asks, "So wot say yee?"

Burke thinks for a few moments, sipping on a warm whiskey. "Normally....I would've told you to take a long walk off a tall cliff. But it's been a strange month for me. Let's say I buy this story you're sellin'. What kind of events are you talkin' about that might mess with the whole world, but also need the help of three people who are, beggin' your pardon," he motions to Marie and Callum, "Not cut from the finest cloth? And you said 'hire'. What kind of payment are we talking?"

He leans back, waiting for Ollee to speak, and then leans forward again rapidly. "Also, where in the hells are you from, talkin' with words I've never heard and wearin' the strangest clothes I've seen since N'awlins?"
Jun 22, 2020 9:59 pm
"Eye mista Wilson, well I be frrrom da lawnd of leprrreechauns of course," he gestures towards Callum as he makes the statement, "which also be known as Irelawnd but I've been airrr ferrr quite a few yearrrs. As ferrr me clothes, I be hopin' day dunna offend ya, day just be what I like ta wear. As ferrr da payment, we was tinkin maybe fifty a munt wit halv up frrront, wit bonus of curse iffin tings get a bit dicey, owe dat be soundin ta ya."
Jun 23, 2020 1:27 am
Marie blinks, trying to process what was being said. Finally, she thinks she understands it. "$50 a month, eh? I can live with that."
Jun 23, 2020 4:14 am
Burke leaned back on his stool. It wasn't an easy thing to achieve, lounging on a stool, but Burke found that appearances meant everything, and had learned ways to look at ease even when it wasn't easy.

$50 a month was more than he had earned since...ever. At least with continual payments. The money he found with his father's belongings had begun to run out, and it was only recently that he realized he had no idea how the late Preacher Burke had paid for anything at all. Preachin' didn't bring in a lot of funds, as it turned out. This could be exactly what he needed, a dream come true. All he had to do was follow this crackpot's directions for a little while and earn money for running around in circles. It was almost enough to cheer for, though he'd never tell the mark that.

"I agree with Marie, that'll do, for now. As important as this mission is, it may require the use of expensive methods, so we might need to be reimbursed for that sort of thing. I'm sure we can sort that out later. And, uh, Love, wasn't it?" He motions to John with a half empty glass. "We'll figure out who you are in a minute, but what say you?"

It had been a long, not to mention strange ride, and Bob was feeling the wear of the road. As he sized up the group at the table he didn't know what to make of it. He never liked anyone that talked too much, always seemed like they were hiding something. What the professor was hiding though, was anyone's guess. The woman, she didn't say much but he got the feeling that underneath that dress of hers was a shrewd operator. He knew better than to mistake a fair face with a dull mind. On the other hand, something about the preacher made Bob like him right away. Whiskey drinking, gun-totin', no beatin' around the bush. He was definitely Bob's sorta padre.
"I guess I'm in. Didn't come all this way for nuttin'. But I'm gonna need a drink."
Bob extends his hand to the preacher.
"John.. John Love." then tips his hat to the lady. "M'am."

Okay I borrowed the first sentence from Ganesh's post and moved it up and used some of the old post to fill it in and help the transition --- then ret con the post following to have Dr. Crick speaking to John instead of Callum -- and finally introducing everyone to everyone -- so not sure Ganesh but you might want to tweak your previous post accordingly but that is up to you. Also you might want to change your characters name to just John Love because (1) He is a Ranger not a Sheriff and (2) The Ranger's do not go around announcing themselves as it tends to cause them more issues then not -- they generally where the badge on the inside of the duster where they flip the duster back to reveal the badge when necessary

skeptical_stun you might want to change your reference in your last post from Kelly to John
"Good, good, a courrrse mista Love 'ave a drink we have time fer dat but den we must be gittin on da trrrain where a couple of utters is waitn ferrr us." Oliver inter laces his fingers and rest his hands on the edge of the table looking quite pleased with things and/or himself.

John looks over the strange group. What had he gotten himself into? He supposed he'd ridden with worse. He could probably handle them if they tried any funny business, but somehow he didn't think he'd have to. These folks weren't the drunk, violent sorts he was used to. They didn't kill just for the sake of killin', although they might be interested in the bounty on his head. He'd just have to make sure they didn't find out about that. He was happy to be puttin' more distance between him and his former life.
"Train gunna be a welcome change from the saddle. I better grab ma horse from the stable and get 'im on board. There ain't no problem with dat is dere?"
Jul 23, 2020 9:57 pm
"No no prrroblem I knew yood all 'ave mounts just as I knew wherrre yood be an' win. We 'ave a stook wagon that shud eezally accommodate trrree moorrre mounts But please do enjoy drrrinks den we be gettin outta 'ere"

"Well I ain't gunna turn down a free drink." John gets another whiskey and downs it one quick gulp. Not one for idle chit-cha, John waits in silence until the others are ready to leave, idly drumming his fingers on the handle of his Colt.

Were livestock cars a thing back then? I really had no idea. Was wondering what I was going to do with my horse (Who I'm going to have to name at some point). Previous post is edited.
"Well." Burke downs the rest of his whiskey and grimaces slightly. "Point me toward this train of yours. I just need to grab my horse and I'll load him up myself. It's been a while since I've been on a train, and I'm looking forward to a gentler ride." He stands and looks toward the Professor expectantly.

After the group has finished their drinks Dr. Crick gets off his portable stool, collapses it and slips it back inside his duster, presumably into a large inner pocket... maybe? He then pulls out that odd over-sized pocket watch looking gadget to check it once more and nods to himself before turning around with a, "Please follow me," after a few steps he abruptly stops dead in his tracks and stiffens, "Wait... sorry... if you have horses you should get them and bring them along."
OOC:
Please chime in and if need be get your horse as well -- we are no heading for the train -- again my apologies for the delays on this
