It is about different roleplaying cultures, Nordic vs American, and how the expectations of both GM and players must be somewhat aligned.
I am
generalizing when I say that american roleplay culture is about being the hero or
winning, where nordic roleplay culture also like to play the
losing side. There is a lot of social-realism games on the nordic game conventions.
I had a character I would like to explore, a truly broken girl, who had her life story painted on her body. I slipped into that grove, as it fit the premise of the game. But my expectations were not the same and yours. And we did not have a conversation about what the game expectations were.
