Out of Character Chatter

Here's the place for your out of character talk...if there's things that you want to discuss or comment on out of game, you want to make a complaint to my Resolution Department, or anything of that nature. Go bananas.

I hate the Dice Gods (and the fact that someone with a 4 strength could defeat me with the roll I got lol)!

AND you're cursing the rest of us. :D

The D20 systems are great for a lot of things. Ability Checks are not one of them!

Someone with a 10 strength is not that much less likely to be able to kick in a door than someone with a 20 strength (25%). Seems weird to me, and something they didn't think out well. Oh well, them's the dice!

The way I've always looked at it, sometimes, even a guy who would have 20 in strength would trip or mess up somehow as he tried to kick in a door. He might still succeed at breaking it down, but he'd also wind up breaking his leg or arm because he held himself wrong.

The hilarious thing? The curse extended to the GM, too. I'm tempted to let it play out the way I rolled it, just for the lulz.

Quite literally, in fact.

The Alexandrian has a great series on how to interact with ability checks as a GM. Doesn't stop the players from rolling poorly (XD), but I found the articles interesting.

I agree it CAN happen. I just don't feel it should be nearly so often as the D20 causes it to happen. I have yet to come up with a satisfying house rule for it though.

I've seen it happen in any system, to be honest. Playing oWoD (d10) one night, I watched a guy roll 6 1's and a 6 while trying to do a Dex+Firearms test. The end result wasn't very pretty...

Usually, the way I rule things like breaking down doors and stuff, it depends on how well built the door is. If it's a simple wooden door, then a guy with 20 STR won't have any problem busting it down, and I'll allow him to Take 20 on it. The guy with 10 STR, though, would have a bit more trouble, so he'd have to roll and hope for the best.

Sorry about slow posts this weekend. Been in a cabin on top of a moutain. Reception was spotty at best and I was doing things I can't talk about in a pg13 setting. I am home now and regular posting will commence.

Whatever we were hit with wasn't a trap right?

Sounds like it was some kind of arcano-grenade?

Yeah Toshi can see multiple figures tossing incendiary grenades.

I'll go ahead and say this now...you aren't gonna die here.

Death comes much later ;).

Maaaaaaybe.

Also, your summon monster 2 ability doesn't normally work on your eidolon...but I May go ahead and allow it.

Yeah, I think it normally takes one minute to summon. Allowing the use of one of the player's daily Summon Monster spells seems like a cool house rule (So long as you're not bringing it back from the dead)

The one minute summon is a short ritual, whereas the Summon Monster use is more like yanking it to your side. I may use that in my games.

Edit: ah crap never mind. Read that wrong. :(

idk if you'll want to let me do Summon Monster with my Eidolon just because that makes Augmented Summoning a lot more powerful than it should be? Which admittedly is why I took it but that's part of me reading all that wrong.
