Character Discussion

I'm thinking of either a Cavalier, or a Fighter, or a Paladin. Whichever the group needs most.
The Campaign Trait I want to take is Child of the Crusade. The associated Mythic path is Marshall. So I can honestly see that working for either of the classes.

Hello folks, glad to be here and thanks for offering the game Midnight. As I mentioned in the tavern I have a character idea in mind. He is a human inquisitor of Shelyn with the Exposed to Awfulness trait. Here is his background info:Oh, for a bit of build info: Manius will likely take the heavy armor proficiency feat and will play a little like a paladin. Wading into melee with a glaive is how combat usually goes and out of combat he is a LG trying to help people kind of guy. As an inquisitor though he has a bit more wiggle room.
I'm not totally opposed to changing to a different character but I'd rather not.
[ +- ] Manius
Manius Wardroxan is a Chelish man in his mid twenties with the pale complexion and dark hair expected for his people. He is above average in height and solidly built but his most defining features are the scars on his face. He had a run in with a demon as a child and still bears a reminder of the encounter in three deep scars from the creature's claws, one of which runs under a patch over his left eye. He is usually seen wearing heavy armor and carrying a glaive.
Despite his somewhat frightening appearance he is a kind hearted man who tries to find the good in everyone.
Manius was born in Cheliax. When he was a small boy a demon from the Worldwound suddenly appeared in his family's home. How and why it travelled so far was a mystery but demons and devils don't get along all that well and some thought that to be the why.
In any case the demon slaughtered most of Manius' family. Only most because somehow he lived long enough for a Hellknight to arrive and vanquish the demon. The fiend did quite a number on young Manius however and he gained many scars that have stuck with him ever since.
With his entire family dead Manius lived in an Asmodean orphanage. As he grew he got very involved in the church eventually joining the ranks officially as an Inquisitor. The scars he carried as a young man made him an outcast and all the other children picked on him calling him ugly. The idea of rising through the hierarchy of the church and gaining power over those underneath him appealed to him greatly. No one would call him ugly if they were his subordinates.
If someone asked him if love at first sight was possible he would have laughed at such sentimental notions. Until the day he met Viviana that is. He was travelling through Taldor on official business when he saw her. When she looked up he turned to walk away. Inside he was still the sad little boy crying because the others laughed at his scars. But she apparently saw something in the way he looked at her. She walked up and introduced herself. They got to know each other very well over the next few days. Manius also began learning the teachings of Shelyn as Viviana was a priestess of the faith. Once he heard the idea that "Beauty comes from within" he began to understand how she looked past his scars and started to feel a change in himself over the course of the next couple of years.
Manius gave up on Asmodeus and committed himself to Shelyn. He became a far more kind and loving person. Especially towards the love of his life Viviana. When she came down with a disease that none of the clerics in their small town could cure and then died of it he was devastated. He tried to carry on without her but had trouble finding beauty in life with her gone and he had never gotten all that good at creating beautiful things.
One day a memory, one that he had tried to forget, came rushing back to him. The day his family was murdered. He decided that if he couldn't add any beauty to Golarion maybe he could take some ugliness out. He left that very day for Kenabres.

@Eggellis- Do Inquisitors get access to magic similar to a Paladin's magic? If so I'll take a Paladin out of my choices and you can keep your original idea. My concept works well with the Child of the Crusade traut. Which in turn works well with both a Cavalier or Fighter.

@Eggellis Sounds good, and gives me a few threads to weave in. (May already have an idea for why that demon was where it was) Shelyn fits with a few of the themes, and Inquisitors also definitely have their place. (May or may not have been the class I used when I played it)
@Squadfather All sound good. Paladin in particular will have some thematic loot but I do intend to fit any non-usable loot to the party, as its no fun if you don't get to play with the fun toys just because something doesn't match. If you do go Pally, Sarenrae and Iomedae are good choices, but Shelyn, Ragathiel, and various others will also definitely work.

Inquisitors are kind of like the divine version of bards. They get 6th level spells. Or another way to compare, they're kinda like paladins without the alignment restriction who get 3/4 BAB and more spells.

A bit more focus of the self buff than the ally/group buff than bards I would say, but yeah my inquisitor was a marshall, so they can do group buffs to a degree. (Mythic Shield Other is a great if you haven't considered it yet)
Yeah. Quite likely the class specific loot is going to turn into 'category-allocated loot' so as an Inquis you will likely be able to use the 'for paladins' stuff. When I played through no one was a paladin, (until 18th level when the rogue decided she was going to be the first Paladin of Desna, because mythic) and as an Inquis I was closest, but still a lot of stuff was locked of. But as said hoping to adapt it all to fit the given party.

Sounds great I'll go with my first choice which is Paladin. I was looking at a couple Prestige classes as a kind of long term goal. Would Hell Knight or Heritor Knight be fair choices?

A Hell Knight paladin would be interesting, however Hell Knights are also order over chaos, and do have presence at the world wound, as devils hate demons. Could be an interesting play with Eggellis's character as well. You may be limited in your order choices, as quite a few are evil/dubious at best,, but for example Torrent, which rescue hostages and kidnap victims first most would work. I'll help research with you into the best choices.
I am about to go read heritor knight will update in a few.

Would you be okay with me taking the Redemption Inquisition? It seems to fit Shelyn to me but I've heard of people disallowing it for her.
Jul 3, 2020 11:30 pm
@Squadfather - heritor knight seems a little more suited to a fighter (Smite not boosted) + not sure if all abilities are that much useful but still looking into. Another prestige class suggestion is evangelist, though it is more generic. Sentinel also come to mind.
@Eggellis - Looking at now, but just want to say is I very much see Shelyyn as redeeming/forgiving, so almost certainly yes. Edit: Read it, go for it. No idea why people disallow.

Hey, all! Thanks for letting me slip in, Light!
I've got quite a few characters I'd like to play, and here they are in order of desire:
★ CN or CG Hex Channeler+Seducer+Mirror Witch, Half-Elf, Heirophant of Calistria: would focus on negative channeling to debuff with the Pain variant channel and (pending GM approval) Shatter Resolve. She'd be guided on a quest for vengeance against the worldwound, and would be useful out of combat with social skills, Knowledge and divination.
★ LE (could swing LN if needed) Hamatulatsu Master Monk, Human, Champion of Asmodeus (or an archdevil): Focused on crit-fishing with the waveblade, using the Ascetic Style tree, will eventually grab Practical Kata and the Ki Leech Quinggong power. Crusading against chaos, maybe looking to join the Hellknights.
★ CG Crossblooded+Steelblood Bloodrager, Human, Arcane and Salamander (could swap Salamander depending on availability of magic crafting in game), Champion or Marshal of Gorum: Vital Strike and butchering axe, 'nuff said. Wants to smash evil.
★ NG Occultist Arcanist, Half-Elf (Varisian and Osirian heritage), venerates Nethys and Desna, Archmage: Summons, counterspells, and general arcane utility. Interested in Sarkorian ruins and history of the God-Callers.
Looking for opinions on these from GM and fellow players.
I have a few other builds in back up if none of these strike your fancy or work out.

Looking at current char's, and what Funfugiguy mentions, a caster may be desirable.
Seducer may have an interesting effect due to an NPC. No pormblem with shattered resolve.
Monk, LE does have a place at the owrldwound, though may ask you to be bording LN/LE as very cautuious on how people play evil. Though if there is evil its LE.
Bloodrager, smash is always good.
Oculist/Arcanist, I have a rule of only one summon 'on the table' if that makes sense, though admittedly in pbp hat matters less (As it is to stop one person taking up a load of turn time). If that doesn;t completely wreck the idea, could definitely be interesting.
Will also let others comment.

On Heritor Knight, a lot of abilities are v. undead, I feel if may be fairly weak in the game, especially when on Paladin, as it doesn;t stack one of its major features, and no extra smite.

@LoudkidOne thing I'll throw out real quick. I would suggest not being evil. It looks like we're gonna have a paladin and officially they're not supposed to hang out with evil dudes. That can be gotten around though which brings me to my next point. This is THE big Good AP and playing evil I just don't think would be as fulfilling here. Unless maybe if you were going for a redemption thing, which honestly would be very fun for me. Redemption is a theme here and for my dude specifically. It's not laid out point blank in the backstory above(it is hinted at though) but Manius used to be evil. Again, not sure if it would be enjoyable for you, but I would love to use my Redemotion powers on another player.
Having said that we've got two beat sticks it seems so having an arcane caster would be good. The witch sounds coolest to me out of the casters but the arcanist seems cool too.

I would not be opposed to having the LE Monk be redeemed, as long as it's done realistically.

@Squadfather
I just started paying attention to you saying you don't have a lot of experience in PF. If I were you I might forgo prestige classes entirely. This may not be where you're coming from but just in case, they aren't nearly as cool as they were in 3.5.
In any case, it's your character so do whatever you like. I'm just tossing that out there for a newbie.
