Please note -- we currently have a Preacher and a Huckster and I would like to introduce the hopefully two new characters as a pair of individuals that got hooked up prior to this point in time -- which is something I can help facilitate as I did previously.

However, you can make it even easier if whatever you create lends itself to doing that ;)

I'm gonna randomizer a character cause I don't know what to play yet, so I'll base around some randomizer results hehe.

I used character-generator.co.uk for these results.
Imma combine this later with the game setting and see if I can make something out of it.

Uh -- this is the Weird Wild West -- aka the time of Cowboys and Indians and the Railroad Wars -- so those kind of backgrounds were a bit off ;) --- Here are Archetypes perhaps you can translate your concepts into one of these

The closest thing to Wild West themes I know would be Westworld and that Wild Wild West movie with Will Smith. Anyway, those randomly generated characters are just personality pegs I use, hehe. Is it ok to use the Prostitute archetype? Much like Maeve Millay from West World if you are familiar with the series and gender bend it, a gigolo.

Then combine it with another archetype like he was once a gigolo but then this customer didn't pay up so he murdered him and discovered how he liked inflicting pain. That makes him a sadist gigolo who finds pleasure in killing. Woah, psychopath alert. Is this too R-18?

Skills:
Agility, Spirit, Vigor, Fighting, Guts, Notice, Persuasion, Attractive

Yep this add up quite well.

If that's not allowed:

I do have an unused Savage Worlds character who's sort of an Architect. (It was supposed to be for a Zombie Apocalypse survival campaign).

7. Background

There was a streak of murder cases in (insert city), the victims were wealthy men and women. The coroner ruled death by strangulation, and the victims had lines and bruises on their backs possibly due to flagellation. The murderer was not found but investigators found out that all victims visited Casa Flora, a whore house. Discretion in the investigation was what the families of the victims wanted since if news erupt, it could tarnish their reputations. Before Red could be found out and sentenced to death by guillotine, he decided that it is better for him to leave town and find other ways to 'satisfy' his desire for blood.

... (still working on how he stumbled upon the party. General idea is that in the frontier there is battle and where there's battle he could very well do what pleases him the most)

Ummm -- this game has a heroic bend -- a sadistic ex-gigolo does not really fit the mold of what we are going for here

As for Westworld and Maeve -- yes I have luckily been able to watch the whole series thus far -- so quite aware of it that being said you can use the basic story content for the characters within Westworld that are part of the entertainment ... aka remove the stuff that deals with their "real" world and only focus on what is being portrayed in the west world part of it. Further yes, the Will Smith movie has elements closer to Deadlands

But that being said I think you can watch some of Clint Eastwoods spaghetti westerns on youtube these days

HERE is a link to a wiki article on it

Here is a fairly good overview of the game on YouTube however be forewarned that not all he talks about is what is the current situation most of it is but the rail-wars are still taking place not as pronounced as they were earlier but still quite present Also do not bother to watch the character creation videos as that is the original Deadlands and not Deadland:Reloaded

I'll try watching those videos later. For now the party needs brawns right? So I'll probably go with something like samurai or ninja cause those are familiar characters and I think I've seen a cowboy movie before where the main character's a samurai who went to the wild west to hide a baby he was supposed to kill. I forgot the title.

Other choices could still be a male Maeve or a bounty hunting martial artist.

that sounds like an interesting premise -- so is your Ronin a Lone Wolf with Cub ?

7. Background (draft)

Was a ninja belonging to the Japanese clan called the black crow clan (カラスの一族).
He was good at assassination until he failed a mission. He was supposed to eliminate a gaijin's (foreigner) family but soon discovered it was his mother and sister he had to kill. Through the gaijin's help, he was able to escape with his sister and foster father to America, but sadly, he couldn't save his mom.

His foster father handed to him a relic the crow clan were after and entrusted him a mission to investigate it. His father, an influential man, promised to protect his sister but he had to cut off ties with them to protect his sister. Clues lead him to the party...

Okay a few issues with this character

1) You must have 1 Major Hindrances and 2 Minor Hindrances -- not 4 Minors
2) You may only have 1 Skill at d12 (aka +5)

Next Guts (Spirit) is what you use to withstand fear you have no Guts and your Spirit is a d4 meaning something scary pops up like a guy with a gun and you might be running to find a hidey hole (and Deadlands is filled with a lot more scarier things -- in fact Fear is a physical element in this game it has its own intangible presence that effects things overtly) -- granted Grit can help but its not going be your catch all

Further as a Ninja you have no special Chi Powers (Spirit) ?? -- so this guy is just a sneaky pugilist as they cannot even use a Ninja-to, Shurikens, or Blowgun all trademark weapons of most Ninja

I think your issue is your are too narrowly focused and a Ninja would (while being good) be more diversified having many weapons at their disposal rather than just one

Also even if its a work in process please submit a character sheet

Arcane Background: Chi Mastery
Jul 20, 2020 8:04 am
Okay other than having to swap out either Assassin or Alertness for Martial Arts (requirement for being a Chi Master) and then choosing your Combat Edge for Martial Arts and Choosing your Chi Powers for your Chi Mastery you are pretty much done.

Note: I have posted the guidelines for Martial Arts for this game and I have posted Novice Chi Powers for this game. Later on I will add the higher Rank Chi Powers but I am sure what is listed will give you an idea of what you might be seeing being put in place later.

I have also outlined the basics for Chi Mastery so that you know what it entails as well.
Jul 20, 2020 9:36 am
Ok I'll change Assassin to Martial Arts: Ninjutsu
and then I'll choose Dodge for his Combat Edge

As for Chi Powers (I don't know how many to pick), top picks are:
Speed
Invisibility
Fear
Jul 20, 2020 2:44 pm
The number of Powers and the Power Points you start with are listed under the Arcane Background (Chi Mastery) but to sum it up

Powers: 5
Power Points: 10

Note the reason you get more Starting Powers is because your Powers are mostly self-only internal powers or you must deliver them by physically contacting the intended target -- I think the only powers that have a limited range are Confusion and Fear and even these are centered on the Martial Artist with a reduced area of effect. Still with judicious use of your powers along with various combat edges you can prove to quite the effectual combatant. I however would suggest that you get a bow (uses the Throwing skill) and ninji-to and perhaps some shurikens if you want as part of your equipment. If those are not listed I can whip them for you.

In case you are unaware Power Points are recovered at a rate of 1 point per hour

Note Ninja are known for being subtle, obscure and/or hidden -- Fear is an out there in your face kind of challenging thing -- like "Here I am and I am the biggest baddest butt-kickinnest guy here -- fear me!" -- I mean if you have ever watched Dragon-Ball Z when they "Power Up" or whatever it is they do when the become seemingly bigger than life or significantly bigger than their normal selves -- that is what this Fear is all about -- is anything but subtle or hidden

If I were to make some suggestions of what might be found in a Ninja's tool box I would suggest these

These two definitely
.... Invisibility (obvious I think when it comes to Ninja being known as the invisible warriors just keep in mind this is a Power Point hog so make sure you do not exhaust your pool or you will not be able to use it)
.... Wall Running (they are almost always depicted as being able to move easily over buildings and such)

Then 2 or 3 of the following:
.... Confusion (trickery and misdirection are a trademark of Ninja's)
.... Darksight (they do much of their work in the dark)
.... Leaping (being able to jump clear of a situation, or to gain a better position is always useful and can be combined with Wall Running)
.... Lower Trait (striking a target to slow them down or cripple their ability to attack is definitely in their tool kit sooner or later)
.... Speed (yes being able to quickly get and more importantly get out are important)

Another solid suggestion might that take one of these if you want to be more combat effective. I would suggest reading through each one of these (as well as the ones I have listed above) and deciding which you feel might help your character out the most. Personally the first two (below) would seem to me the most effective overall of the three I have listed.
.... Force Strike
.... Smite
.... Stun

Alright, I'll take:

Invisibility
Wall Running
Confusion
Speed
Darksight

As for gears: How about a Kusarigama [LINK]

Then I'll add a kunai or two.
