Character Creation & Leveling Up

Jul 8, 2020 8:43 pm
Create and level up your characters here.

This campaign will start at Level 7, so use the following:

- Use the following array to create your character:
---- 17, 15, 13, 12, 10, 8

- You may use any race or subclass available on D&D Beyond, including published or UA. This includes the subraces for Dragonmarks. If multiclass, only two total classes.

- Give yourself one common and one uncommon magic item (published only).

- Use starting equipment from the class & background, plus an extra 500g. If you want a different kind of armor or weapon than listed to start, take it.

- You all currently work for Swords & Sages in the City of Sharn, and have been on one mission together as a group. However, its up to you how much you've been working there beyond that.

Currently looking at an eldritch knight totally not an ex-pirate.

A tomboyish changeling warlock for me, who clawed herself up from the underbelly of the Lower City and has far too many secrets, some of which she isn't even aware of herself! Building her as a rogue with magic. And maybe fireballs, because sometimes you just need to blow stuff up to get somewhere. ;)

I had the idea that I could swap portraits and names between identities too, for that extra flavor on pbp.

I was thinking of a warforged artificer, which is even more enticing given the Baron's bio!

If you're going warlock, I always find it critical to nail down the patron (honestly its the best part of being a warlock). Which subclass are you thinking? If you have ideas, shoot them my way via DM.

If anyone needs access to D&D beyond, WotC gave me the legendary bundle with all the books. If anyone needs it I'll set uo a campaign link so you can join with a free account and use their character builder.

I'm thinking of making a War Wizard with a couple levels of Paladin. A heavily armored wizard who fought in the front lines of the Last War.

Is plate armor an option?

Yeah, that should be fine.

eldritch knight
warlock
warforged artificer
war wizard

My first thought was also a eldritch knight, but perhaps a trixter rouge? Still undesided

Random hints from the DM for no reason:
- you’ll want somebody proficient in land vehicles
- you’ll want an artificer

That is all. :)

Just a heads up as well. This campaign is not restricted to the city. The first mission is into the Mournlands.

I'm planning on having the soldier background which should cover the land vehicle proficiency.

I'm going to make an arcane fighter, but instead of using the Eldrich knight, I'll use the bard college of swords as a class.
I will be dragon marked and the moral compass will not be black&white, but more in the gray area

Going for a half-elf with a very strong storm theme, with Sailor background. Still working out alignment/attitudes as two options.

Light, are you going with a Mark of Storms dragonmark?
Jul 9, 2020 4:59 pm
Maaaaaybe.

Yeah. Yeah I am. Though she very much will be trying to hide it. Was thinking for whatever reasons she's not on good terms with the rest of house Lyrandar.

Edit: What items are people currently looking at? Half debating going for Mithral Plate as thinking of her being swashbucklerish, but also some possible fun options on there, like a pearl of power in rapier hilt.

Cloak of Protection is my go-to uncommon magic item. Not super original or anything, but it always feels good to make those saving throws. For the common magic item, I'm considering the Cast-Off Plate Armor.

Keep in mind with an armored wizard, you'll need the War Caster feat if you plan on spellcasting with your shield/weapon. Another possibility is the Ruby of the War Mage. You do you though. :)

I'd forgotten Ruby of the War Mage. I'd likely be grabbing it myself. And funnily enough looking at going mage armour instead of the mithral plate. So we have a wizard in Full Plate and Fighter in Mage Armor.

For uncommon item, I have a hard time choosing between a luck stone and winged boots

for common item I'm going with a a pipe, or better yet a cigarette-holder of smoke monsters
