The Olympus (One-Shot)

Jul 8, 2020 9:45 pm
"Ok, now just sign here. And here. Initial there, there, and here. Flip the page. Sign the bottom. Next page. Signature here, and initial over there. Annnnnd, just four more signatures on the next page please. Alright, we're officially done. Welcome back to the land of the living Mr. Van Brunt."

The clerk slides the completed paper work over to the judge who adds his own series of signatures and you are finally able to leave the courthouse with your identity officially reinstated; no longer legally dead. Totally worth the weeks and weeks of work leading up to the marathon of paper work today.

You gather your things and leave the courthouse in a bit of a hurry. The manager of the Olympus, the nightclub you own, called this morning and had a few things he wanted to discuss with you in person. As usual, he sounded a little annoyed. He took over managing the club in your absence and while he was glad you were alive and well, he didn't like having to relinquish control.

But before you can make your way to the club you are stopped by a well dressed man in a suit who appears to have been waiting outside the courthouse for you. He gets your attention with a sharp whistle and when you turn around the old head of your father's security team is looking you over with a wide smile.

"You looking pretty good for a dead man, Eli." He takes his hat off, slides his hand through his slicked back hair, and then reaches out for a handshake. "Way I heard it, you've been back in town for weeks. Didn't think about reaching out to an old family friend? I'm hurt, Eli, honestly." He puts on a comical pouty face before his used car salesman smile returns. "So what's the plan now that you're back?"

Eli turns, at the sound of the whistle, and smiles at who he sees. Mac! It is good to see you. I am sorry it took me so long to reach out. There wasn't to much that I could do while I was...dead. Who knew how much fun it would be to prove you're actually alive.

Standing beside his long time friend, Eli looks out at the city. As far as plans go...I plan on assuming control of Olympus. I'm hoping that'll keep me sane. As for everything else...It'll be to big of a fight to regain control of the company. I'm satisfied with keeping my father's seat at the board meetings. As long as a Van Brunt has a say in the company I'm satisfied.

Looking out at the street and watching the people go about their day, Eli glances over at Mac. I need to see the full police report on the accident. I owe it to them to look into it.
Jul 9, 2020 12:01 am
Mac's smile finally fades as you bring up your family and their tragic fate. "We never got a chance to talk about what happened. I'm really sorry about how it all went down. I should have been there. I'd been working O.T. for weeks, and your Pop insisted that I take the day off. Not a day goes by that I question how I could have saved them if I had been there."

Hearing Mac talk about it conjures up images of your family drowning. The newspapers say the car was last seen flying down the road at unsafe speeds before it was driven right off the pier and into the Atlantic. No one made it out alive. There were rumors that they were being chased and were forced off the road, but nothing concrete. The papers sensationalized everything. You needed real solid facts to put this behind you.

"I'll talk to some people; see if I can't help you out with those police reports. But you know how this city works. Unless a heavy briefcase is passed to the right people, I'm sure you'll hear that the report has suddenly gone missing." Mac's wide smile returns as he tries to shift gears a little.

"But the Olympus, yeah, great place. Glad you'll be hanging around the club. I'm there myself most nights. If you wanna grease a few wheels, the Olympus is the place to do it. Since you've been gone the private rooms have become the go to place in town for-- let's just call them very competitive poker games between wealthy friends. I guarantee if there is a crooked cop that can get their hands on that report, you'll find them at the Olympus."
Jul 9, 2020 12:46 am
Eli smiles as he listens to Mac. Don't beat yourself up. If you had been there, then you could've died in the crash as well. You have nothing to be sorry for. You're also the only family that I have left.

Glancing down at his watch, Eli realizes what time it is. Ahh hell, I need to get going. I'm supposed to be down at Olympus signing a new deed of ownership, which reverts ownership back to me. You're more than welcome to come with me. You can tell all about what I've missed. Plus you know Ziggy, he's glad I'm alive, but hates it that he's giving control of the club up.
Jul 9, 2020 10:20 pm
Mac agrees to come along and the two of you hail a cab. On the way he fills you in on some of the things you've missed. He tells you about the general chaos surrounding the trial and whether or not it could be continued without your father and brother there. He isn't even sure if the case was ever officially ruled on. It seems like the whole town just forgot about it and moved on. Mac then quickly glosses over his own tough times after your family's death. It seems people were hesitant to hire the head of security who had multiple people die on his watch. But Mac quickly changes the subject and gives his opinion on how the pathetic performance of the bullpen for the Crowfall Knights is at fault for their recent slump. He talks very quickly and it is hard to get a word in.

You arrive at the Olympus and are surprised to see there is a full table being served even though it is still a few hours before opening. The men at the table are all smoking cigars and slinging back beers while waitresses in much more revealing uniforms then you remember sit on their laps. The men eye you suspiciously but cheer when they see Mac and call him over to the table.

"Alright, champ. Duty calls. Good luck taking care of your business." Mac spins a chair around backwards and sits down with the men at the table. They start laughing and trading quips immediately.

Ziggy sees you and calls you over to the bar where you have a seat.

"Good to see you again, Eli. Can I get you anything to drink or is it right down to business."

You can't help but notice that talk at the nearby table has gone quiet. Not silent, but hushed. The girls are sent away and the men have gotten real serious as they lean close together to discuss their business while occasionally looking over your way.
Jul 10, 2020 11:41 pm
Why not do both? Let me have a bottle of something cold. Also refresh the drinks for the table and put it on my personal tab. Go ahead and show me the books while we're at it.
OOC:
Do I recognize any of the men at the table? Can I tell how the woman like the uniforms or being treated like playthings?
Jul 11, 2020 5:52 pm
Ziggy nods and grabs a scotch glass from under the table. He tells one of the nearby girls to serve another round for the gentlemen at the table. She fills a new set of glasses and placed them on a serving tray, but stays put behind the bar. When she notices your questioning look she says "They really don't like being interrupted. I'll make sure they know the drinks are on you as soon as they call me over."

You take another look at the men gathered around the table and try to study their faces a bit. Besides Mac, none of them jump out in your memory.

As Ziggy prepares the necessary paperwork you look around the club at the handful of waitresses in uniform. You get a bit of a mixed bag feeling at their acceptance of the job and all that it entails. Some are bating eyelashes and flirting with the men, even from a distance. Others are tugging at their uniforms to make sure nothing slips out that they would prefer to keep covered.

"Alright, you don't have to worry about any legal tricks from me, Eli," Ziggy says. "Just sign here and you're once again the head honcho around here. You have to admit I've done a lot of good for business though. How much are you thinking about changing up the way we run things?"
Jul 11, 2020 9:44 pm
Eli signs the papers where Ziggy pointed to. No worries Ziggy, I trust you. I'll simply watch how things run for a couple of days. At that point I'll make any decisions then.

Eli klinks his glass with Ziggy's and downs his drink. How are the locals in here? Any troublemakers I need to know about?

Squadfather44 sent a note to griffrpg
Jul 12, 2020 1:36 am
Ziggy laughs. "Kid, you're back in Crowfall. This whole city is trouble." He brings the glass to his lips, but thinks better of it and places it back on the table. He has a long night ahead of himself and it is a little early for him to start. "Things usually stay pretty calm in here, thankfully. We may get some rough customers, but everyone treats the place as a... eh, what do they call it... no one fights in here in what I'm trying to say. They know better. This place is too important to business to risk being banned. A lot of deals are brokered at these tables. Plus, no one wants to miss out on the games or the dames."

A thought comes to mind, and Ziggy shakes his head. He decides maybe it isn't too early for that drink. "I will tell you to watch out for this young Irish woman that recently showed up. Jade Sheahan. Word is she is some kid of terrorist or gangster from overseas. Killed a few too many men and was sent over here to cool down. She isn't haven't any of it though. That girl may not look threatening, but she put three men in the hospital the other night because they cat called her. This is supposed to be a safe place, but I ain't telling her do nothing."
Jul 12, 2020 1:59 am
Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep an eye out for her. The next time she comes in here, have someone discreetly point her out.

Eli finishes his drink and slides the empty bottle over to Ziggy. Let me have another one. Now, here's a serious question for you. I know deals of various kinds are made here. Other than the back room card games, what else goes on here? I need to know everything, especially if I want to keep this a neutral ground establishment.

Taking a long pull from his fresh drink, Eli thinks to himself for a moment. If I needed to get my hands on a file from the police... who from the PD comes in here often? Better yet, who has the biggest bar tab run up or the biggest debt at the card tables?
Jul 12, 2020 8:46 pm
"Oh, I won't need to point her out. You'll know her when you see her. Or hear her." Ziggy pours another glass and refills his own, but leaves it sitting for the time being.

"I mind my own business. People start thinking I'm keeping tabs on their activities and they may take their business elsewhere."

"Sgt. Hamilton sounds like your man. I've given up on collecting his tab. I'd get to him fast if I were you, because he'll probably be wearing cement shoes within the week for his gambling debts. Should be in tonight. Always is."
Jul 19, 2020 3:06 pm
Eli heads out to and decides to return the Olympus later that night when the place is in full swing. He walks through the doors during primetime and finds that the place is packed, drinks are flowing, the air is filled with cigarette and cigar smoke, and a jazz band is in full swing on the stage. Within seconds you recognize the faces of half a dozen world famous criminals from the newspapers. Mostly figures from organized crime families but you also see one or two low level costumed super villains who are mostly being unknowingly mocked by those around them.

Ziggy is no where in sight and the bar is being worked by a several young gentlemen who toss bottles into the air and perform tricks as they work. With so many people moving around, you are unable to spot Mac either. He may be out there in the crowd or the backrooms though.

A man roughly bumps into you from behind and nearly knocks you the ground. "What's the matter with you, kid? Standing in front of the door like some slack jawed idiot. Kids these days, I swear. You even old enough to drink?" You turn to see the man removing his police cap. Looking down his badge reads Sgt. Hamilton. Well, at least one of the people you were looking for was easy to find.
Jul 19, 2020 9:08 pm
Eli watches as Hamilton shoves past him and disappeared into the crowd. If only everything was that simple in life. Moving through the crowds Eli takes a mental note of the various criminals and supers in the room.

Eli walks past the bar and nods at the people standing behind it at work. Moving back to his office, Eli starts his search for Ziggy there.
Jul 19, 2020 10:01 pm
You open the door to the office and find Ziggy leaning back in his chair with his feet kicked up and in the lap of one of the waitresses. She massages his bare feet while Ziggy enjoys a cold beer. At your intrusion, Ziggy jumps up and starts to shout, "What I have I said about interrupting me-- Oh it's you, kid. Umm... Just taking a little break. You need something?"
Jul 19, 2020 10:42 pm
Eli looks at Ziggy, his expression speaking volumes. Not taking his eyes off Ziggy, Eli speaks to the waitress. Leave us... Ziggy and I are about to discuss the life expectancy of various things here at the club.

Once she is gone, Eli turns his full attention to Ziggy. First, the waitresses serve drinks, they do not service us or the customers. Those that do will either stop or leave tonight. Secondly, why did I count at least six mobbed up guys in the club? That doesn't count the two costumed low lifes getting drunk. Are they using the club for anything other than a drink or an impromptu meeting?

Despite a good effort, Ziggy ends up looking considerably more annoyed than intimidated. He sits back in his seat and patiently waits for you to finish. "I thought you said you wouldn't be changing things up too much, kid. There's a lot of people that aren't going to be happy with the reforms you are proposing. Those 'mobbed up' guys and 'low lives' are none of our business. They are all paying customers and that is all we need to know. As long as no one causes any trouble, we do not get involved in anyone's business out there. They want to pay a bit extra to use the back rooms, be my guest."

He gets up and walks around the desk. Standing before you is no longer the beaten and wary bartender you used to know. Ziggy stands tall and confident as he looks you dead in the eyes. "Don't go making trouble where there doesn't need to be any. You won't like where that road leads to." Ziggy puffs out his chest and his eyes dare you to respond.
Jul 21, 2020 12:30 am
Eli takes a step closer to Ziggy and matches his stare. I put you in charge of here to take care of it. You want to bring in certain elements and let them use the back rooms, so be it. Those same groups want to bring in out-of-towners and impress them... So be it. What I have an issue with is the man handling of our staff. If one our waitresses wants to hang with them, then fine it's their choice. If they choose not to then it ends there..period.
Jul 22, 2020 12:19 am
The smile slowly returns to Ziggy's face as you speak. It is clear that he views this as you caving in and letting him run the place his way. "Glad you’re coming to your senses, kid, but don’t make me out to be a monster. I don’t tell them girls what to do and we all get along just fine."
Jul 22, 2020 10:50 pm
Glad to hear it. You know what you can do for me though? Set a meeting up. It'll be here at the Olympus, let's say in the morning once we've closed up. I want you to invite all the families that use our facilities. Be polite, let them know it'll be an open bar. Each of the families will send a single representative and no more than two enforcers. It's time everyone met the...owner.

Eli steps away from Ziggy and makes his way over to the desk and sits down. Eli glances over at Ziggy. Would you be pal and go fetch our dear Sgt for me. He entered the bar right before I came in here. It's time we settled up with him.
Jul 23, 2020 9:02 pm
Ziggy stands there with his jaw dropped and shakes his head in disbelief. "Kid... you are jumping into the deep end before taking your first lesson. You're going to get killed if you mess around with these people. I'll put the word out that you want a meeting, but it isn't happening in the morning. You don't tell these people what do to. You make requests. I'll give you an update when I can."

Ziggy leaves to go get Sgt. Hamilton

The door to the office swings open a few minutes later and a very angry looking Sgt. Hamilton enters. "Just who do you think you are, you little punk. Do you have any idea who you're barking orders at?" Hamilton's face is red and his face sweating. He helps himself to a seat and it is clear that he needs it. It has clearly been a long time since he did anything other than work behind a desk for the police department.
Jul 23, 2020 9:21 pm
I know exactly who I am, Sgt. Hamilton. The question remains though... Do you know who I am? Eli sits there and let's Hamilton stew a bit before continuing to speak. I am Elijah Van Brunt... the owner of the Olympus. For the record I know that your A police officer of the local precient. I also know that you've ran up a hefty debt here. I'm offering you a chance to clear it. What do you have to offer?
Jul 24, 2020 1:19 am
Hamilton listens to what you have to say and gives off a little snort of laughter as you finish. "That's what this is all about? You want to bribe me? I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Well, I'm not stupid, Elijah. You specifically came to me so you clearly have something in mind that you want. Let's not beat around the bush. I am interested in your offer. Tell me what I need to do to make this happen."
Jul 24, 2020 11:09 pm
Eli takes his eyes off the monitors and looks at Hamilton. Fair enough, I want access to some files. I want access to full copies of any files related to what happened to my family. That includes lists of any evidence and any possible witness lists. You do that for me and I'll drop 25% of your tab. In effect it'll have never existed.

Sitting there, Eli let's Hamilton soak in the offer. Depending on what I find out, I may have need of your services. Keep helping me and you'll see your tab quickly disappear.
Jul 25, 2020 10:29 pm
Hamilton gives you an annoyed but impressed smile. "The way you had Ziggy all worked up I figured you were going to get eaten up and spit out by this town, but look at you. Dangling a good deal at first and then low balling me." He wipes his right hand on his uniform and reaches across the desk for a shake. "Either way, I am just the mark that can't pass up on this deal. I hope a hand shake means as much to you as it does to me. If it does, I can see this relationship being very good for the both of us."

He gets up to leave the office. "Give me a couple of days and I'll get what you're asking for. Any troubles and you'll hear from me. For what it's worth; I thought your father was a good man. Now excuse me while I go add to that tab. You should have made it a straight amount rather than a percentage. Practically encouraging me to add to this beer belly," he laughs and closes the office door behind him.
Jul 30, 2020 11:49 pm
Eli stands up and shakes Hamilton's hand. A handshake in my opinion is the same as giving your word. In my opinion it's an iron clad bond.

Take your time with getting me the file. I'm not going anywhere. I'll let the bar staff know about your tab as well. Eli watches as Hamilton leaves the office.

With nothing better to do, Eli leaves the office and heads back out into the bar area. Taking a seat at the end of the bar, Eli orders a drink and puts his back against the wall. Simply content to sit in the shadows and watch.

One of the bartenders slides you a drink and just as the glass touches your lips, Mac slaps you on the back, nearly causing you to spill all over yourself. Mac thinks the whole thing is hilarious. He takes the seat next to you and orders two more drinks.

" I hope this drink isn't for medicinal purposes, because friend, there are better ways to deal with your problems that won't lead to more problems down the road."
Aug 6, 2020 10:27 pm
Eli smiles at Mac and downs the drink in one shot. He looks around the club and takes a moment before speaking. How did my club get like this? It wasn't this bad before I left to go on my international bar hop. I know there some people using the back rooms for small-town deals. Yet now it seems like every illegal action or sin can be found here. I'm going to clean thing place up and return it to it's former glory. I'm setting up a meeting with all the major families and players that conduct business here. We'll be discussing terms and what expect from us.

Looking over at Mac, Eli has a serious look on his face. I could use some help. You want the job?
Aug 8, 2020 12:51 am
Mac listens closely to what you have to say. He doesn’t butt in. Just nods along; carefully taking in every detail. You know him. He’s working every angle and analyzing the details before he gives his two cents. When it comes to the job proposal, Mac is a little caught off guard. He studies your face to make sure you’re not pulling his leg.

"You sure, Eli? A lot of people in this town hold me responsible for what happened with your dad and brother. I know you know better then to listen to that bull, but it doesn’t change the fact that it happened on my watch. If this is a serious offer, then you don’t even need to ask. Of course I’m in."

He motions to a waitress and Mac orders a soda this time. "Gotta keep my mind sharp if I’m suddenly on the clock. Now you might not believe this, but I already heard about the meeting you’re planning. Word travels fast around here, especially if Ziggy is in the know. His mouth is as big as his gut.

"Word of advice: You can invite the lower level heads of family and local thugs to a meeting here, but don’t pull that with Paganelli. I just got this job and I don’t aim to lose it week one. You try a move like that with Marcos and he’ll teach you respect. You should request a meeting with him on his own turf. Let him know who you are and that your respect him and his turf. I know you aren’t going to like hearing this, but you got to walk on eggshells with him. Treat him like the king he thinks he is. Butter him up. Then maybe you can lay down the law about what can and cannot take place on your own turf."
Aug 9, 2020 9:16 pm
Fair enough, I'll request a meeting with him on his turf. Could you request it or should I handle it some other way? Eli says as he listens to Mac's advice.

As soon as Mac questions Eli's choice of hiring him, Eli laughs for a couple seconds. You're family, you always have been. I don't care what people say. I'm not going to leave you out in the cold.

Eli finishes his second drink and thinks about the upcoming meeting. I requested that each representative bring one person with them. Obviously I want you there as my second. Is there anything else that you can suggest doing?
Aug 9, 2020 11:05 pm
"Sure thing, boss. I've never spoken with Marcos himself, but I've had to deal with the Family before. I'll reach out to my contacts and get things set up in a way that he likes and then get you everything you need to know before heading in there."

He gives you a very genuine smile and a heartfelt nod of appreciation at your kind words before offering a toast to the start of a new beginning for "both of us, the Olympus, and hell, even Crowfall!" Naturally, he agrees to being by your side at the upcoming meeting. In response for any suggestions, "You'll have an easier time getting them on board with any changes if you agree to get rid of the ones they consider riff raff. Hoods and masks get along about as well as.... I don't know, metaphors aren't my thing. Point is, they hate seeing super villains in here probably as much as you do. So win-win, really. It won't change things overnight, but they will be more willing to take the more shady business elsewhere if you take steps to ensuring this place remains a nice and safe neutral meeting ground. I know that might not be quite what you want, but baby steps right?"

The front door swings open and slam into the walls; drawing pretty much everyone's attention. For a moment, the sense of joy that permeated the room instantly vanishes as everyone looks upon who you can only assume is Jade Sheahan. She walks through the doors alone, dressed in business slacks and a shabby looking undershirt. Her bright red hair is tussled and you notice her knuckles are bloodied. It is pretty clear she has already been in at least one fight tonight and the way she is looking at everyone, daring them to start something, makes it look like she is gearing up for another one.
Aug 11, 2020 10:00 pm
Well it looks like shit just got real. I'm guessing that's the infamous Jade Sheahan, that Ziggy told me about. Elijah grabs the bottle the bartender left and fills his glass up again. Looking over at Mac, Elijah smiles and says... The quickest way to get respect from the various groups is to show them that I'm willing to keep the place clean and the undesirables out.

Hopping off his stool Elijah grabs his glass and starts to move towards Jade. Just as Mac tries to stop him, Eli motions for him to stop. Don't worry, I'll be okay. I learned how to throw a punch while I was bar hopping.

With a devil may care grin on his face, Eli slaps Mac on the shoulder and makes his way through the crowds. Once through he steps up and looks at Jade. Welcome to the Olympus, how can we help you?
OOC:
Eli is acting like the typical drunk rich guy that doesn't know what's about to happen. Yet he's poised to attack at a seconds notice.

Jade reaches out a hand for a shake. You are familiar with opening maneuvers like this, and prepare your other arm to block any potential strike coming from her free hand. Unfortunately she decides to take a different route. You’re on the ground feeling like you’re going to puke before you even realized what happened. A knee to the balls will do that to a guy.

She moved faster than anyone you have ever encountered. You feel like you would have an easier time squaring off against ten brawlers than this lightning fast sociopath. Your drink falls from your hand and the glass shatters on the ground as every male in the joint groans in your shared pain.

Jade continues on like nothing happened and takes a seat at the bar. Mac makes sure to steer clear of her and comes to help you back up to your feet.

"You ok, Eli? Sorry. Dumb question." He looks around and sees that everyone's eyes are darting back and forth between Jade and Eli. "Not going to lie, boss. That didn’t exactly go the way we wanted it to."

Jade grabs one of the waiters by the collar and slams his face into the bar. He slumps down onto the ground and she takes the bottle of whisky he had been ready to serve. She doesn’t bother with a glass. The rest of patrons that were at the bar quickly try to find tables far away from Jade to sit at. More then a few head right for the exits. You also notice a few gangsters that are eyeing Jade with looks of pure hatred. This supposedly peaceful neutral meeting ground suddenly feels like a powder keg about to blow.

Eli stands there as he takes a moment to catch his breath. Looking over at Jade, Eli's face is unreadable, yet his eyes are not. Burning with an intensity that that matches his anger, Eli reaches over and drains his drink in one shot.

As he sets his glass on the bar, Eli catches a glimpse of Mac starting to make his way over towards Jade. With a glare and a cut of his hand, Eli gives simple instructions to his friend. Stay put, this is my fight.. It may have been the simple instructions or better yet the glare in Eli's eyes, but Mac moved back to his position by the bar.

Eli stood there, calmly fixing his tie, and making himself presentable. Once done, he turns and faces the glances and stares of all of the patrons. Knowing that if he truly wanted to clean this bar up, hell... to clean the city up, then his next decision was a crucial one. Taking a deep breath and slowly letting it out, Eli made his choice.

Making a beeline to where Jade was sitting, the anger and fury in Eli's expression spoke volumes. Everyone from the various gangs and families, to the two hoods that were getting drunk, opened up a path and took a couple of involuntary steps back. Eli could almost hear the bookies laying out the odds on the fight that everyone knew was coming. As he made his way over to where Jade was sitting, Eli gave a simple gesture for the staff to vacate the area.

As he stopped right beside Jade, Eli smiles his usual smile, but the fury never left his gaze. I'm sorry, it would seem that you didn't realize that this is a private members only establishment. We are currently not taking on new members. If you're looking for a job, we are looking for someone to take out the trash though. By all means...allow me to show you where. Moving with a speed and violence that leaves everyone watching speechless, Eli grabs the back of Jades head and slams her face first into the bar, three times in rapid succession. On the third hit, Eli grabs her and tosses her onto the barroom floor.

Without looking at anyone, Eli's voice spoke volumes. Give us some space. Let's see what she's truly got. Eli calmly rolls his sleeves up and gets ready to fight.

Jade gets to her feet and stares you down. Blood pours from his nose but she doesn’t seem to care. In fact, she’s smiling pretty wide. She rolls her neck from side to side, letting loose an audible crack, and clenches her hands into cold fists made for destruction. "Well look at the rich boy trying to impress these pathetic sods that call themselves gangsters. Aight, let’s have it, rich boy. Show me what you got."

She doesn’t move a muscle at first. Just stands there, arms at her side, but fingers curled into fists. Her eyes watch you closely, waiting for you to make the first move. The crowd is in an uproar. Everyone has given you the requested space and there is now a distinct circle of bodies around the two of you screaming for blood. Many more spectators are in rows behind them or standing on tables to get a look at the impending action.

The second your muscles so much as twitch toward movement Jade is on you like lightning. She drops her shoulder and rams it into your rib cage pushing you into the crowd who toss you back into the metaphorical ring.

You waste no time throwing punches but Jade is ready for each of them. She uncurls her fingers and meets your fists with the palm of her hand, dulling the impact and redirecting the blow. Her joyous smile and laughter is only occasionally interrupted by having to spit away blood still dripping down from her nose.

Satisfied with toying around, Jade grips your hand and pulls you toward her. You stumble off balance as she directs your momentum and wraps her arm around your neck into a sleeper hold. She starts to apply pressure to your carotid arteries in an attempt to make you blackout.

OOC:
FYI, the details you use to obtain your dice do not have to match how you split your dice pool. You can describe only attacks and still use defensive rolls. If I use your selected split with 5 attack dice and 0 defense, then you’ll be down to 0 HP and Jade will be at 3 because it would break down as follows.

Jade rolled 3 attack dice and 2 defense. She got successes on all of those rolls.
You rolled 5 attack dice and 0 defense with 2 successful rolls.

With no blocks, all 3 of Jade’s hits get through and you are reduced to 0 HP (you need to go to -1 or lower to lose).
Jade is able to negate your two attack successes with her 2 blocks and she remains at 3 HP.

Since it is your first fight and the rules might not be clear, I am going to re-split your dice pool to 3 attack and 2 defense. Unfortunately, the rolls themselves were not very good. So this means you have 1 hit and 1 block.

Jade still blocks your attack success, but you are at least able to block 1 of her 3 hits. Still an uphill climb, but at least you are in a little bit better shape. Good luck.

Eli doesn't panic as he feels Kate's sleeper hold tighten up. Remembering his training, he tightens his neck muscles in order to combat her attack. As he does so, Eli slides his feet and gets them into position.

Once he's set up for his attack, Eli quickly launches his attack. With a quick series of strikes with his elbows, Eli begins to hammer Jade in her ribs. Once he feels her grip begin to loosen the slightest bit, he rams his head backwards into her face with a reverse headbut. As her grip is finally broken Elijah doins and throws a hard right hook that surprises a lot of people by the speed and power of it.

As Jade lands hard on the floor, Elijah pauses a moment to catch his breath. With an amused expression on his face, Elijah straightens his tie...again. Okay sunshine, you made your point. I'm giving you one chance and only one chance, to walk away. You don't and we keep fighting...someone isn't going to like how this ends. It's in your court, make your move.

Elijah then turns his head and cracks his neck while shrugging his shoulders. Looking around Elijah spys one of the waitresses standing near the front of the crowd. Moving over he grabs the drink off her tray and downs it in one shot. With a playful smile he smiles and motions for the bar staff to refill the order.

Turning his attention back to the matter at hand, Elijah looks at Jade and watches her every move.Seeing that she's beginning to stand up, Elijah walks over and delivers a hard kick to her already bruised ribs. As Jade falls back down, Elijah let's a polite smile spread on his face. That was for the knee you decided to bring up and start negotiations with. Now stand up sunshine, no one ever found victory in the dirt. Elijah steps back a couple feet and prepares for Jades counter offer.

Jade’s face is blank as she rises to her feet. She stands loosely, arms at her side once more. There is no telling what she is going to do. She almost reminds you of a captured zombie from a horror movie. A blank shell that only resembles a human. Like a zombie, this shell is driven by violence.

She lets loose a loud battle cry and charges forward. You squat into a defensive position, expecting her to attack with her fists. Instead she drops to a knee and slides across the floor toward you.

You hop backward, wanting to keep some distance between you, and she straightens into a standing position. This type of feint / counter / reset cycle continues as you both feel out one another's fighting style. The best way you could describe her style would be street fighter meets drunken boxer. She tries hard to cover just how much careful thought and training is required to pull off her deceptive movements.

The crowd starts to turn on you both as the action stalls out. They are sharks and they want more blood. Jade doesn’t seem to care one bit. She knows you are a worthy opponent and is taking her time. She doesn’t know when she’ll get another fight that lasts more than one punch. The impatient crowd, on the other hand, does their best to spice things up.

You hear glass break and a broken bottle is slide into the circle. This is followed by a few more glasses which only shatter on impact with the ground. Next comes a broken chair leg and someone even tosses a switchblade to the floor. The fighting circle just got a lot more dangerous.

Jade smirks, and nudges the knife in your direction. With her eyes, she dares you to go for it.

Plot summary to wrap up this story:

Jade and Eli fight to a standstill, much do the displeasure of everyone watching. They share drinks together and chat for a few hours before Eli challenges Jade to a drinking contest. She takes the first shot and instead of downing his shot, Eli gets in a sucker punch and knocks her out cold before tossing her out of the bar. Eli delivers a speech to the rest of the shocked patrons about how things are going to change around here going forward.

The date of the meeting with the mafia officials arrives and Eli is double crossed by Ziggy and Mac. Both are working for the Paganelli Crime Family. Ziggy poisons Eli's drink and he wakes up tied to a chair in a building he does not recognize.

Mac reveals that he is directly responsible for the death's of Eli's father and brother. The duo wouldn't bend to the demands of Marco Paganelli and Mac was paid to take them out. Mac would prefer not to do the same thing to Eli, who he had always been much closer with. Instead, he injects the owner of the Olympus with a mind control serum so he is able to keep him in line.

Mac and Eli arrive at the Olympus that night and appear to be the best of friends. They drink, they gamble, and they gladly enjoy the company of Crowfall's most infamous mobsters.

Jade returns to pick another fight with Eli, but this time he is backed up by Mac, Ziggy, and every gangster in the place. She has no choice but to flee but vows revenge against every associated with Eli and the Olympus.

Eli, Mac, and Ziggy toast to the good times that are sure to follow for all of them.
