anybody using sound?

I've started using background noise during my table top games. You know, crowded tavern, coastal village, rain in the forest, etc.

I find it really helps set the mood. I just have a laptop quietly playing in the background, and the sounds fill in the dead spaces when players are lost in thought, without the attention leaving the scene. It's really great, and free!

I hear there are now even "smells" that can be bought to liven up a roll playing session. One step too far for me, but only because they aren't free.

Check a few of these out:

In the drop down menu for the tool tab, there is an entry for music. Perhaps you could suggest those there.

My irl group has moved to roll20 for the quarantine and the GM put a dramatic background track on for one scene three or four sessions ago. It has been playing in the background of the game ever since then

Tabletop Audio and Ambient Mixer are two sites I have used in the past when DM/GMing games. For that little something extra extra. Here are the links to them: Table Top Audio and Ambient Mixer

For the rest of eternity...

I tried roll20 when it was very new and didn't like it back then. Of course I feel horribly self conscious about RP'ing in person. I didn't mind using just the Map function but the chat back then felt off. I ran an IRC Internet Relay Chat Traveller game like 20 years ago, I suppose that was the precursor of R20... Made a website for the game so everyone could log in and track their progress.

Back when I was in a IRL group we had STACKS of movie sound tracks and Classical CD's for the right mood. The Mission, Aliens, Star Wars, Holst's The Planets that kind of stuff. This was a VERY long time ago before torrent's and streaming.
