When Rama regains consciousness he found himself lying on the floor in a dimly lit area. The place smells musty and the air is stale. Looking around, Rama finds himself in a prison cell. Metal bars, this prison's not too different from the usual cells back on the world where he was from. Light enters from a small barred rectangular hole in the wall. It's still day, but Rama has no idea what time it is.

"Slept well?" A voice asks.

It was from a man in ragged clothes from the cell beside him. Rama can see that there are other prisoners too but they are either asleep or not in the mood to talk. Rama couldn't see them clearly.
Jul 30, 2020 3:06 pm
Rama mutters, "Captured by a slave gang, must be back in Madurai."

He gets up and looks around. "What is this? Organ harvesting? Sex trafficking? Indentured servitude to the Saudis?"

He checks his skin in the pale light. Still blue.
Aug 3, 2020 8:44 am
"I don't really know how you got here, devil." The man yawns.

It didn't take long before someone from outside the prison cells came to check on you.

"I see, you're awake." Says a man in green uniform. "The world's full of monsters and we're just being cautious." He speaks in a kind tone.

"Tell us, what were you doing at Bezelbebe forest?" He asks.
Aug 3, 2020 2:10 pm
Rama looks at the guard. He'd been thinking about how to explain some of this. "I was somewhere else, a different land, and was cursed to wear this body. A giant threw me over the horizon. I don't know how I survived."
Aug 3, 2020 2:30 pm
"A different land and a giant you say. That's odd indeed." The man says. You hear the other prisoners try to hold their laugh.

"You were brought here by adventurers who dealt with the goblin captain. They thought you were related to the blue goblins." The man asks.
Aug 3, 2020 4:20 pm
Rama shrugs, his tail swishing. "Goblins, you say." He fingers his horn. "If these creatures look like me, other than being blue, then I'd be interested in meeting them. When will I be freed from imprisonment for this heinous crime of being found unconscious in the woods?"
Aug 4, 2020 12:31 pm
"We thought you know more about them than we do. The goblins have slain seven of Newtown's adventurers during the last expedition." The guard pauses, arms folded, fingers brushing his goatee. He looks at Shaitaan for a second then he looks away.

"I do not have reason to hold you in this cell so you may go, Mr.Shaitaan." The man says before unlocking Rama's cell.
Aug 4, 2020 12:40 pm
Rama exits, and says, "Dhanyavaad. Thank you."

He stretches. He had seen shows, even acted in some, where the noble beast protagonist ends up in a strange land and has to survive. Of course, they never just ask to be taught, there would be no comedy of errors in that.

"Newtown you said? I am new here, as I said. Is there someone I could talk to abbot learning the customs? I may need to work for my keep, and I'd rather not blunder about causing mischief solely from my ignorance in your local ways."
Aug 4, 2020 1:14 pm
"You're in the Guardian's building, we're in charge of law and order in this place, I don't know if we can help you about customs but we're short staffed. Go check with the people upstairs if you're interested. If not, you can also check out the Adventurer's guild, they've always got jobs for people like you." The guard replies before locking the prison cell you got out of.

Exit from the prison's ahead. There's stairs going up.
Aug 4, 2020 1:23 pm
A Guardian? That doesn't seem my speed. And a devil in defense of order? Surely not.

Rama touches a hand to his chest, throat and then forehead in a practiced gesture to the guard, with a smile. "I will try this adventures' guild. Peace."

He goes up the stairs out of the prison.
Aug 5, 2020 12:40 pm
The guard ignores Rama.

Upstairs, the devil saw desks and other people.

You see a man in uniform interviewing a muscular anthropomorphic boar.
You see a man and a woman in uniform chatting and drinking what seems to be coffee.
You see a lady in uniform with pointed ears, an elf, working on something in her desk.

Exit from the Guardian's building is on the left.
Aug 5, 2020 12:46 pm
I'm not the only odd looking one, it seems, he thinks, with mild disappointment. He thinks about talking to them, but heads for the door. Then he changes his mind and approaches the coffee drinkers. "Some weather we're having," he says lamely when they turn their attention to him.
Aug 5, 2020 1:44 pm
The two were laughing when Rama butt in on their conversation. They raised an eyebrow.

"It's always sunny in Newtown." Says the red haired man with a goatee.

"What do you want, devil?" Asks the dark skinned lady with long straight black hair tied in a ponytail.
Aug 5, 2020 2:27 pm
Feeling waves of acrimony, real or imagined, he decides friendliness wasn't the village way in this hole. "Whoa, whoa, nothing I suppose, no problem here." He backs away and leaves through the exit.
Aug 6, 2020 8:42 am
Outside, the scene is that of a renaissance village except this place doesn't only include humans, it has other races too such as elves and beast men. There are no other devils outside the guardian building though. The highest building's only around three stories tall. You can see stalls on the side of stone paved streets. There are no cars but you can see carts pulled by some beast of burden that looked like an ox only that it has red skin and has a third eye.

To the right there are more side street stalls.
To the left the path goes down and you can see a harbor for small fishing vessels.
OOC:
If you want to make routine checks to find your way around town: you can roll INT or CHA or any skill that's applicable.
Aug 6, 2020 12:09 pm
Rama wanders the village, getting the lay out. First he checks out the area near the Guardian prison, including the side street stalls. Then he moves down to the harbor.

He's looking for either a playactor's theatre or stage, the adventurers building, or any sign of what is going on.

Rolls

INT 1 - (1d20+1)

(19) + 1 = 20

Aug 6, 2020 12:24 pm
Rama easily found the adventurer's building from investigating around town. It's a place where there's a lot of traffic since adventurers are abundant due to the goblin hunt. Rama saw the three story tall building in the market area and the adventurers going in and out of the building. He can be certain it was what he was looking for since the sign, spelled in [COMMON], says it.
OOC:
You know two languages [COMMON] the common language of this world and [TRAVELER] which is all languages spoken on earth.
As for the other buildings he's looking for, there are no stages but he heard of the Sunrise Tavern where the bards go sometimes to perform. What he was looking for might be in another town.

The stalls sell all sorts of goods from food, to apparel, to weapons and armor. The fishermen's boats just got back from the sea. As for other things going on around town, he learns about what happened in Bezelbebe's forest from the gossip mongers. The expedition to exterminate the goblin menace did not go as perfect as planned. Four adventurers died, and many are wounded. Even with a certain high-ranking adventurer's participation, the adventurers still suffered a big casualty.
Aug 6, 2020 12:37 pm
Uncertain what constitutes an adventurer, whether he is one, or what they do, he enters the adventurers' building. His tail flicks with impatience and curiosity.
Aug 6, 2020 1:03 pm
The devil enters the building and found people from different races in the large hall.

On the left side, there's a bar manned by a burly tiger like bartender, a catkin. Groups of people gather around round tables, chatting about their quests, drinking, or are waiting for someone or something.

On the right side, are people looking at a board with different sizes of parchments on it. The top of the board says 'Quests'.

The front area has three counters. There's a person behind each counter: an elf lady, a man wearing glasses, and a dog like person.

The crowd inside the adventurer's guild are lively but when Rama entered some of them stopped talking.
Aug 6, 2020 1:13 pm
"If you think I'm a goblin, then that explains why despite so many adventurers, there remains a goblin problem in this town," he laughs, trying to be funny, but to his shock, the laugh comes out haunting and evil.

Oh, right, devil.

He moves to the "Quest" board. "Anything here in the vein of musicals?"
Aug 6, 2020 1:32 pm
Some people whisper to one another when they heard you, some would take a step back after hearing your evil laugh, some just ignored it. You checked out the quest board, most of the 'posts' are about requests to hunt down a certain creature, others requests for collecting certain items from Bezelbebe. There are all sorts of other quests.

"There are no musicals but there's one here looking for performers for a nobleman's party if you're interested." A male human with dark green hair and grey eyes says as he point at a post on the Quest board. He seems unbothered about Rama's race.
Aug 6, 2020 1:50 pm
"Excellent, much obliged, stranger. I am well versed in a number of dance styles." He looks at the man. "Green hair. What's up with that?" His devilishly handsome eyes twinkle with his joke.

He looks for the dancing gig, and how to apply.
Aug 6, 2020 2:15 pm
The man shrugs when Rama asked him about his hair. He takes the post from the quest wall and gives it to Rama.

The post says that someone called Count Klaus Clauster is looking for performers to entertain his guests on a ball he will be hosting in 5 days. Not much detail is on the paper.

"If you're interested in that, you can hand that over there." Green haired man points at the three counters.
Aug 6, 2020 2:59 pm
"You are a raja. My thanks."

He turns the paper into the next open counter.
Aug 6, 2020 3:31 pm
"I haven't seen you before." Says the man wearing glasses behind the center counter. He took the paper Rama placed in the counter and checked it. Rama can see the name plate on the man's uniform, it reads 'Morris'.

"It's a Rank E job, can I see your license." Morris says while looking at your face.

"... if you do not have a license you can register for a fee of two gold coins." Morris says, before handing out a pamphlet that explains what the guild does, what the membership is for, and what you can do with your license. To summarize: the guild's like a human resources agency that acts as intermediary between client and adventurer.

"If you do not have the money now, I'm afraid I can not process your application."

Morris and the others behind the counter seem indifferent about you.
Aug 6, 2020 4:11 pm
Rama asks, "If I had a license, what would the job pay?"

After learning the pay for the dancing gig, Rama goes outside. He'll find a quiet place to put this all together.

Could I busk for the money? Come see the Dancing Devil! He snorts, but can't deny the idea had appeal. Maybe the fire spheres could make it a real show.

He'll need a place to practice. Somewhere private and not flammable. He goes on another walk, looking for a place to practice integrating fire with one of his Bollywood dance routines. He doesn't want any viewers, that would be less people willing to pay.
Aug 7, 2020 2:38 am
Morris says that Rank E Adventurers do not get much but as they complete more missions and increase their rank and renown, the pay increases a lot.

During Rama's roaming around town, he found that Newtown has a park that's wide enough, it's not private though. He can try the forest or the beach as well, it's already dusk though and Rama can only assume that these places are not as safe in the night as it is during the day.
Aug 7, 2020 12:53 pm
With no good options, Rama finds a quiet spot in the park and goes through the routine he had in mind, not fully moving, just basic footwork. He looks for places to incorporate his fire spheres in the number.

He settles on starting the routine, summoning the spheres after the first break a minute in, then dancing with the spheres spinning around him. He thinks fire or electricity orbs would be the most flashy but practices with light orbs first.

He realizes that this will likely risk failure, as he does fail in his chosen summon spot, so he should probably start the routine only when he's successfully summoned the spheres.

Rolls

Summon light orbs, Int 1, Expertise Magic 2 - (1d20+3)

(4) + 3 = 7

Aug 12, 2020 2:23 pm
The fire orb you were trying to create started to grow but eventually it fizzled out. Summoning the magic spheres was not as easy as you thought it would be. A couple of times it would fizzle and die but eventually you were able to create some fire spheres. It's warm and radiant, the light brightens up the otherwise dark and dull park.

"What you got there mister?" A scruffy looking middle aged bald man in light dirty clothing asks. His right hand seem to be hiding something behind him. The man approaches Rama.
Aug 12, 2020 2:32 pm
Once he had the spheres in place Rama starts to move around paving out a dance number without actually dancing yet, having the spheres circle around him, slowly at first.

"Fire show," he says to the newcomer.

"I'm not a goblin; you know that, right?"
Aug 12, 2020 2:42 pm
"Goblin or not, this park's my territory." The bald man reveals what he was hiding. A knife!

"Now hand me yer money if you want to live." Turns out that his first audience is a mugger. Will Rama run or fight?
OOC:
You have 1 fireball summoned beside you. The thief is around 10ft in front of you.

Fight!

His face opens wide with pleasure, his fangs glistening in the light from the fireball. "You have chosen... Death."

His eyes stare into the mugger's. He conjures up thoughts of his devil form growing, the whole park bursting into flame, chains reaching from the ground and flaying the flesh from innocent muggers.

Rama couldn't make the entire park appear as if it was burning but he was able to make himself look like a greater demon in the eyes of the mugger.

"W-Waaa! What are you." His whole body seem to tremble in fear from the demon before him. Yet he wouldn't run away.

"D-Die you demon!" Instead it tried to stab Rama with his knife. The thief falters and misses, he almost tripped towards the ball of fire. Rama has an opportunity to make a counter attack before the thief could move back.

OOC:
From hostile, the thieves attitude towards Rama improved to 'unfavorable'.
"Tsk. Get out of our sight!"

"Why ya letting him go Mar?"

"That blue skin got no money you idiots!"

You took the opportunity to leave. Where would Rama practice now?
Aug 14, 2020 12:43 pm
Nursing his wounds, he'll find a open spot in town, a square. He had hoped to practice in secret so his show would be polished, but maybe he can't be that picky. With no money, he couldn't take many of the quest jobs, but this mugger encounter had taught him that he's incapable of handling any real confrontation.

He's also exhausted after summoning a sphere, and needs an hour to recover his strength.

Getting into town, he goes to the square. Finding an old bowl or broken cup, or discarded hat, he starts dancing, hoping that it will be for coin from appreciative passersby.
Aug 14, 2020 1:03 pm
The safest place in town may be the place where he came from, the guardians building. There ain't much passersby in the evening but there are still people who'd pass by whom Rama could perform for.
OOC:
I'll roll your Expertise:Dance and PRE to see how well you performed.

After collecting his earnings (and thanking the donors) he decides to keep the money for a license. But this bard idea sounds good too. He heads to the Sunrise Tavern to see if they're still open and he can talk to this person.
Aug 14, 2020 1:34 pm
The tavern's lively at this time of the night, you hear a familiar tune performed with a lute and drum. The language used is [ COMMON ] but you can say for sure this music is popular back on earth. You enter the almost crowded building and saw the performer, it was one of the unconscious people you saw back at the goblin settlement (Dylan). He was singing and playing the lute while black tentacle like limbs emerging from the bard's shadow is playing the drums.

Strangely, his song is soothing, magical even. While listening to him you can sense your tiredness getting alleviated and you can feel that your wounds are healing.

The audience gave their round of applaues as the bard ends his set. Rama has opportunity to approach him.
Aug 14, 2020 1:46 pm
OOC:
Assuming you'll translate for Dylan in his thread at the opportune time.
Rama approaches the man. "You made it back. I saw you at the goblin settlement, but fell unconscious before I could do much to help." He looks around at the crowd.

"My name is Rama. I'm a dancer, from Earth. I came here to hear you play, with an idea that we could see if we could combine our acts."
Aug 14, 2020 2:56 pm
"I'm Dylan." He offers his hand for a hand shake.

"I don't remember much what happened there." He says to his fellow [ traveler ] before drinking the beverage offered by the barkeep for his service.

"Sure, let's do it right now after this break, I just finished my first set." He says as he offer a seat for Rama.

"What song do you want me to play?" Dylan asks.
Aug 14, 2020 3:04 pm
Rama shakes his hand enthusiastically. "Where are you from?"

"I mostly did work in India cinema, what you might call Bollywood. But anything fast paced should be easy to match."

He discusses some of Dylan's repertoire and they settle on one they can adapt quickly.

"Did you hear about the noble who is looking for performers? I was thinking about going there tomorrow, now that I can afford to buy a license for the job."
Aug 15, 2020 3:36 am
"Germany. I'm a musician even back there." Dylan answers, he avoids speaking in [ TRAVELER ], the others in the bar might find the language odd.

Dance music are not an unusual request to bar musicians. Dylan knows a few of them. He also asks the staff to clear some area where the dancer can perform.

"I just heard about it from the gnome, I'm thinking of going as well. What's the license for?" Dylan says.
Aug 15, 2020 3:42 am
"Apparently you need a license to get jobs from the guild. That's where the posting for the noble was. They wouldn't give me the contact details without paying a 2 gold fee." He warms up a little, covertly. He signals when he's ready.
Aug 15, 2020 3:59 am
"I see, then I need to get one as well then." Dylan finishes his dinner and prepares to perform.

Performance time.

He'd re-introduce himself and introduce Rama to the audience and ask for their applause. Then he'd start playing on Rama's cue. Hands strumming the lute, 'extra hands' beating the drums. Dylan hopes this will be an epic performance.
OOC:
I don't know if this counts for a team check but here's a performance roll.
Also, Dylan will use Lucky Star for Rama (in case he gets a result lower than 12).

OOC:
Let's treat this as both a team check and individual check with Rama as the leader. Rama gets +5 from the team check due to Dylan's music. So his result is a 21.
The duo made an impactful performance with Dylan's fascinating music (advantage) and Rama's mesmerizing steps. The audience were captivated, they stopped what they were doing to see the fantastic show. The end of the performance brought some audience in awe, tears start forming in their eyes. The crowd's ready to sign up on a fan club, if that was a thing in this world.

The audience expressed their appreciation with applause, cheers, and coins. The two of you garnered quite a sum of money.
OOC:
You both get (2d6) equipment points each. Many folks in the tavern will act favorable towards you.
Note: Equipment points and equipment don't add towards your power level.
The tavern going folks are in a merry mood but then Rama saw a familiar face smirk at him before exiting the tavern. It was the thief he met at the park earlier, Mar.
Aug 16, 2020 2:42 am
"Bah. A thief who 'owns' the park was here, and smirked at me. He wishes a rematch to our earlier battle, I suspect."

Aug 16, 2020 6:24 pm
OOC:
Point transfer should be fine
The two of you can stay in the tavern to chat with the other patrons. It's getting late and though the people are enjoying the night, most of them need to go home.

You may want to go out to follow the thief or do something else.
Aug 16, 2020 9:10 pm
"I don't think we should follow the thief. There were a bunch more in the park that were looking to jump in. If you're interested in that Duke's call for players, we could go together tomorrow?"

Rama examines their earnings for the evening. Teaming up was a lot more lucrative than dancing in the dark.
Aug 17, 2020 1:04 am
"Alright, see ya tomorrow then." Dylan agrees to Rama's decision... not exactly. Night gives a boost to his powers so the best time to deal with thugs would be tonight in the darkness.
OOC:
Should I go back to Dylan's thread if I decide to deal with the thieves?
Before leaving Rama...

"Excuse me." Dylan calls the attention of someone, a server.

"Is there an inn nearby you could recommend to a couple of entertainers like us?" He asks.
Aug 17, 2020 4:20 am
The staff approaches, a minotaur(?) but leaner. He seem to be in a good mood.

"Sunrise tavern is connected to Sunrise inn which is just beside this place. Adventurers from distant places usually stay there." The minotaur answers.

Inspecting the earnings, Rama can conclude that there are no paper bills in this world.
OOC:
@Dylan Sure, as soon as you split up you can post back on your thread.
Aug 17, 2020 4:38 am
Rama goes with Dylan to the Sunrise Inn and gets his own room. "I'll meet you downstairs in the morning. It's been a pleasure."

After arranging for his room, he'll find some food, yesterday's bread or cold soup being sufficient given the hour, then he'll retire for the night.
Aug 17, 2020 5:09 am
The inn's rooms are cozy, there's a single bed and beside it is a night stand with a lamp that's powered by magic. There's no AC but there's no need for it anyway. Before Rama could fall asleep he hears the sound of a bell inside his head. Notifications?

In the long night, we took a train to see my cousins in the country. Steamy jungles were alien to me as a boy, growing up in the urban stink. I kept my eyes glued to the window of the passenger car, watching for elephants and tigers and hidden temples. But the fields and the forests on the track were well travelled, expecting to see anything undiscovered was foolish.

From the train station we walked a long dirt road to the farm. When we arrived, it was an old style home, predating the British. I didn't see its beauty, only its antiquity. "This is a hovel? Why did we come?" but no one listens to the foolish. I was cuffed for my insolence.

At night my cousin Habib woke me and pulled me out into the jungled. We were not killed by snakes or quicksand, but instead made it to an ancient temple overgrown and hidden. We climbed inside, waking monkeys who screeched and fled before his electric torch. Habib told me of an old sorcerer who had made the temple his home, and would curse your enemies if you paid a blood price. I was terrified, enraptured by the tale.

We went back every night and told outrageous stories to each other, the legends of our people.
