Downtime System

To simplify the downtime system while still making it engaging, I hereby propose this change.

Dice Pools

All actions are done with a dice pool consisting of an Attribute + corresponding Ability.
If available, additions will be added for any appropriate backgrounds or assisting actions from others.

All actions will require a certain amount of successes, as follows below, or as given by the storytellers for special actions not defined by the rules.

Types of Actions

Attack: used for attacking a target or location. Every 3 successes on the roll will lower the defense of the location or target by 1. (Any character using this action or assisting in this action must be physically present for the attack action)

Build: The Build Action is used to create or increase a background such as Allies, Contacts, Herd, Retainer etc. Difficulty is 4 or current rating of the background +3 whichever is higher
Successes required: 10/15/20/25/30

Defend: used for defending a player or location. Each success adds a dice to the locations defense for the month. (Note: Any character who is assigned as a defender will be present for combat.)

Cover Up: used to cover up an action a player has done. Difficulty of 6 each success adds 1 point that must be overcome by an investigation to learn the truth of what happened.(Note a player may add 2 to the difficulty if they wish to frame someone)

Hinder: used to hinder another players actions, each success subtracts one success from their opponent which may result in a botch

Investigate: used to investigate previous actions or plot related information difficulty of 6.

Steal: used in the event of stealing an object or item difficulty depends upon locations defense and size of the object.

Shadow : This action is used to follow another character ideally without being caught. The difficulty is equal to the players Perception+Alertness. Every 3 successes will give you one of the target player's actions for the month, chosen at random.

Spread Rumor: This action is used to spread a rumor through the Cainite courts. Difficulty is proportional to the absurdity of the rumor.


Research Ritual: This action is used to research a ritual. Player rolls Intelligence + Occult, difficulty equal to ritual level +3
Successes required equal levelx 5: 5/10/15/20/25


Calls

Backgrounds may be used to add additional dice to an action for downtime purposes, each background may only be used once. Backgrounds add their rating in additional dice to an action they are applicable to. In addition, each background has a unique effect or action it can do.
Note each call can only be used once

Allies: Add 1.5 times their rating to an action.

Contacts: When assigned to an action as a call they lower the difficulty by ⅓ their rating.

Retainers: can be assigned to assist on an action or perform one of the following actions themselves. (Attack,Defend,Shadow)
