OOC:
Hey all, Since I saw your interest in Star Wars Neon Noir. It seems like there is enough interest for another Star Wars game. I've ran several IRL and thought I'd offer up one here. First question: Time Period - Clone Wars/Rebels/Original Trilogy/Mandolorian ?Dec 23, 2020 11:09 pm
I'm open to all time periods. I usually find that avoiding to be too close to a major established storyline allow for more freedom in the story though.
Dec 24, 2020 5:42 am
I’m pretty open, but if I had to pick I’d go with original trilogy. Also, I’m new to this system, so bare with me!
Dec 24, 2020 7:30 am
I'm just so happy to play! I'm down for whatever, but original Trilogy is my favorite
Dec 24, 2020 1:56 pm
I'm good with whatever. I've run this, but usually use a character generator to help me with building. Not sure how it will work in PBP but am excited to try
Dec 24, 2020 5:43 pm
Well, It sounds like the 'Whatever's' have it :) So let's go Old School with the setting: News of the Death Star's existence followed by the destruction of Alderaan and the Death Star has been spreading across the Galaxy for a week now. You have been living and working for the last year or so (or all of your life) in the Lantillian sector.
OOC: The Lantillian sector has been used a few times throughout the Star Wars RP history. I have a notebook at home where I fleshed out a campaign that only went a few games. I may not follow the previous campaign, but it gives some good backgrounds to launch from. Most of the classes/backgrounds in the FFG books will work. Force and Destiny characters are a little hard to work in during this time period and Age of Rebellion is 'just starting' - So some of the 'cool stuff' would have to be worked towards rather than available now.
If everyone wants to give that a think and throw out some Character concepts, that would be great. I've always felt that Star Wars works best when the players take a Team approach. That doesn't mean you can't have secondary goals/hopes/dreams/Evil Plans that work at cross purposes to other characters, there is a lot of story in the Tension :) But, in the end, you're the good guys.
Feel free to PM me with questions, etc. Toss your thoughts out here for discussion, have a Great Holiday.

I'm always tempted by a good old fashioned smuggler, cynical, a bit cocky, but heart in the right place. I'd prefer to focus on ranged light and some kind of social. Less interested in piloting. Maybe a Rodian. I have a half made character I didn't get to use previously I could retool. Like all rogue characters he'd be on the run from someone/something.
Dec 24, 2020 6:09 pm
I’ll read up on the system a bit and work on creating a character today and tomorrow. Somebody mentioned a character generator, can you recommend a good one to use for someone who is new?
Dec 24, 2020 6:22 pm

Oggdude's generator is good but only for PCs.Dec 24, 2020 9:43 pm
I tend to fill whatever support roll/skill gap is needed. So I'll wait to see what everyone else is doing
Dec 24, 2020 10:58 pm
Oggdude is what I use. I'm probably going human, not sure of class yet. Maybe some form of pilot.
Dec 26, 2020 2:27 am
I'm thinking a Cunning, Educated Balozar that trained himself to infiltrate crime or corporate organisation (spy, sleeper agent) who may or may not have been spotted by the Resistance depending on the kind of adventure we are aiming for.
Dec 26, 2020 9:17 pm
I'm liking the idea of a Togruta Explorer scout. I'm still wrapping my head around the system, so I may change it up a bit.
Dec 27, 2020 1:45 am
@Crazybirdman - You'll either have a ship or access to one, depending on the character mix.
So far sounds like an interesting species/class mix :)

How is the gang gonna meet? Someone getting a crew together for a big job? Crime gang, imperials, or rebels needing something off book/particular set of skills.
Dec 28, 2020 2:22 pm
@Mephistophilis - Depends on the Character mix. If everyone is very diverse in backgrounds, I'll go with the Rebel Operative hiring 'particular set of skills' - Probably won't admit it's for the Rebellion at first. If we've got a some folks that are of similar background, Ship Crew with a job, maybe picking up any outliers for extra skills.
Dec 28, 2020 6:16 pm
I submitted a draft character. Here's a summary of the background for Keno 'Ken' Tetsu. I thought I'd explain his presence in the sector either by being there on a failed 'job' (some over ambitious criminal enterprise) or as part of a ship's crew depending on the background we come up with.
Description: Ken is a slim Rodian of average height. He struts and swaggers as only the young and inexperienced can. He is green skinned and dressed in a bulky smuggler's vest that seems a little too big for him and he carries a blaster ostentatiously at his hip.
Background: A child of Rodian refugees, Ken grew up on the Hutt moon of Nar Shaddaa. From his early years he has been mixed up in the low level criminal activity that is the way of life there. He likes to think of himself as a dashing rogue, keeping out of harm's way by his wits and skill. The reality is that he has mostly spent his time in minor criminal operations such as selling illicit good, boosting cargo, and chasing up debts, and it is more luck than anything else that has prevented him perishing at the wrong end of a blaster. Now Ken thinks he is ready for the big league...

Blih Vram'rek never stepped foot in the homeworld of the Balozar. He had an happy childhood and a good education away from the core worlds with his mother. A bit of sickly boy, but it seemed to run in the family as his mother was other sick herself. It wasn't until she died, as he was barely out of childhood, that he learned that she was struggling with a life-long addiction to deathsticks. She escaped the Balozar homeworld when she learned she was pregnant to give her offspring a better chance than she had. And she had succeeded.
The grieving Blih learned eagerly about the history of Balozar and how his entire culture was destroyed by megacorporation and crime sindicate. He got angry. A simmering hidden anger that drives him without ever showing. From a good-natured mischievous boy, he became a manipulative adult building multiple life for himself. Those galactic bullies that had already destroyed his ancestral planet and his mother needed to pay, and if nobody else did it, he would do it himself.
How do we go about starting credit, motivation and obligation/duty?

@The_Librarian - No pressure, we're all coming back from the Holidays :)
@TheVagrant - Starting credits are 500, Do you have access to one of the core Rulebooks? If so, the Obligation section starts on page 38 of EotE and Motivations are on page 94 - Feel free to peruse them and pick, or if your feeling daring, roll. IF your using Oggdudes Character generator, you can read the names by selecting New under each item or select Random. If you need a link to one of the core rulebooks let me know. I like the character, I didn't 'accept' since I'm not sure what that does to your ability to edit the character.

@TheVagrant - Sweet. Approved - Pretty much anything from EotE and AoR should be good. Just keeping in mind we're right at the beginning of AoR, so some stuff isn't as available.

Btw, while my character's specialty will be everything cunning related, his backstory allow to build as a back up slicer or medic easily.
Would be happy to round up the team this way if we have no dedicated character in those roles.
Just don't expect to much from him in a fight :P

Ken's got a 3 in cunning and a few cunning skills since his background is as a petty criminal and his career is Scoundrel. He'll be prioritising agility (4) and ranged light and has some presence (3)/charm skills which I'd focus on going forward but the overlap might suggest it is worth some broadening out.
Dec 29, 2020 12:54 am
Ken's got the face, Blih will manipulate and scheme from the sideline. All good ;)
Dec 29, 2020 12:45 pm
@Oddtrails - Looks pretty good. But by my math, (i.e. Oggdude's math) you've got 20 points to spend. I'm wondering if you picked up specialization's and just didn't list them under Talents ?
Dec 31, 2020 9:42 pm
Hmm, I guess I can whip up a mechanic (with a touch of slicer added in) to help balance things out.
Jan 2, 2021 1:06 am
@TheVagrant, I'm more than ready to toss you guys into the fire :D - Looks like crazybirdman is baking a mechanic and The_Librarian will round us out in the next couple days. I'd say we could have the first story post by Wednesday.
Jan 3, 2021 2:30 pm
I'm sorry folks real life has gotten a bit nuts in the last few days. In addition Ogg dude keeps crashing on me. I'd love to play, but think I need to wait for now. Thanks for the invite, and please consider me in the future.
Jan 3, 2021 4:28 pm
@The_Librarian - Sorry to see you go, Life has to come first. Hopefully we'll see you on the next round.
Ok, folks. I'll send some PMs out to the people that were on the waiting list, but to be fair to the rest, Once crazybirdman submits his character, I'll set up the RP Thread and kick us off.

Hey guys thanks for having me.
Seems like we are doing a post DS1, Edge type campaign?
I have a few character ideas I am working on thinking of going more pilot oriented.

@valdattaMadun - Pilot sounds like a good plan, I don't believe anyone has significant skill there.

So I am thinking I will go with a Xexto, Smuggler/Pilot. Pergano Wallali.
Work got busy today but I will be sure to figure out the character fully early tomorrow (I am PST)
Figure, Pergano is really a pilot-for-hire type of guy who isn't too shabby with a blaster when he wants to be as well. How/why he joins the adventure would probably be money/fortune/job related.

What is the starting obligation? And can we get the extra xp for additional obligation?
Jan 5, 2021 2:39 pm
@TheVagrant - 10 points each for a party of 5 :) Yes, you can use for credits or XP.

Ok all, looks like we are set. My goal is to post the opener early on 1/6/2020 EST USA. That should allow everyone to post a response in their respective afternoon/evening. Life permitting, I'll try and stick to a morning post Mon-Fri, weekends are always up in the air, so If I'm home on the weekend, I'll post but I won't push the story unless everyone responds.
Also, if Sh*t comes up (known as life), just toss a post out for us. I don't mind skipping a day or two if your life (or mine) flies off the rails. This is supposed to be fun :) and cooperative. Also, I think several of you have played Star Wars FFG, if your comfortable with difficulties, go ahead and add them into any dice you roll. If you're not, feel free to PM me or post in the OOC chat forum that I'll setup. We can make suggestions or I can roll them IRL and do the math.
Personally, I'm really excited about this game, I've been playing/running Star Wars since 1990 (yeah, WEG was the bomb back then) and I've never seen an in person/table top game without a single human. So no, "I put on the Imperial Uniform and bluff our way out" for this group... Unless someone's Deception is off the charts. Clean jumps, and May the Force be with you.

I’m excited to play too. This is my first SW RPG, so... I’ll have questions. And do some dumb things. So, hope you can be a bit patient!
Jan 6, 2021 4:26 am
@Oddtrails, I have a 23 year old son, and an 11 year old son. At this point I'm not sure who's done more dumb things, them or me, but yeah patience, I think we can scrounge some up. :)
So, New to SW, not a big deal - you've seen a movie or two, it's Space Opera, bigger than life - Kind of what FireFly was going after, and got.
New to the Fantasy Flight Games version of SW - It's a different take than the previous versions - it's a Narrative game - That's a fancy way of saying that rather than the traditional - GM says "you see a dragon" and you say "I fight it" , You can use Triumphs to input your version of what happens. As with all game mechanics, it can take a minute before your brain wraps around the possibilities. There are plenty of good examples in the game books, but when you roll a Triumph or Despair, I always found that if you visualize the scene and think "what good (or bad), random (action movie) kind of thing could happen" that you'll start seeing possibilities for affecting the Story. Lots of gear has bonuses that can only activate on at Triumph and social skills have some pre-defined options, but the gist of the system is let your imagination flow. The 'table' can always call BS if it's too much or 'breaks' the feel of the game. Don't be afraid to throw it out there. Most of the best stories come after you've jumped off the cliff and before you figure out how to land, in one piece.

That sounds great! I've got the core books, it's just the I-don't-know-what-I-don't-know that will likely trip me up. I'm most accustomed to 5e, so this will be a change - but I like change!
Anyways, thanks for having me!

There you go. And we may not get to it right away, but the dice roller only shows the first 8-ish dice that you click on, but it'll roll just about as many as you feel like clicking. So if the Dice pool is over 8, just have to keep up with what you've clicked :)

It's a fun ride while and after you are learning!
Esidrix, a couple of questions for ya: Can Droids strain be affected by stun damage or only ion damage? I've heard it both ways, so just wanted to be sure. Also, can droids swim? Or would they need some sort of modification to safely submerge?

Strain from weapons is from Ion damage, you can gather strain from extra actions, just like other characters.
Well, it's more like you can walk under water, you'd be to heavy to 'swim'. No modifications are needed.

Hello everyone,
It seems I have lost interest in this game. I kept reading hoping it would come back but, as its been more than two weeks now since my last post, I have to come to the conclusion that I'm just not the right fit for the game.
I am sorry any inconvenience and thank you for having me.
