DeathB4Decaff Character Discussions

Jan 3, 2021 6:36 am
This thread is for discussing DeathB4Decaff's character please do not post anything here that is not related to DeathB4Decaff's character and yes collaborating with DeathB4Decaff is consider fair postings.

Please make your rolls in here and outline what your are doing so that I can give you feedback on the world. Do note though this game borrows heavily from the Forgotten Realms so you can use information from that setting to outline your background.

Hi, just throwing it out there. Would you allow a tabaxi?
Reason I ask is I've been tinkering with a tabaxi artificer? If artificer is a no I'd probably go monk.

I've got a Nezumi (Ratfolk) character I've been playing with too but that will probably be a little much 😂

I will say these these things --

First I rarely say no to a fun concept BUT I will make it match this worlds paradigm and I will make sure its balanced with the other characters and such. If you are willing to work with me on that then we should have no trouble bringing to life a version of the thing you would most like to play. Oh and there is another note -- the character needs to be able to work with the other players on some level which is to say usually loner types and anti-socials generally do not tend work well just food-for-thought is all.

1) I will examine the Tabaxi (which I am familiar with) and if necessary post any tweaks I feel might be necessary.

2) Okay as for the Nezumi (Ratfolk) I am aware of their existence but has anything official come out on them and/or where is the version you were thinking of playing --- and what applies to the Tabaxi would apply to the Nezumi --- also you might eventually find something of monumental interest to a character of this race -- just saying

For either of these 2 races your Background would already be chosen for you since those races are extremely rare to non-existent within the region of Far Reach (as of yet that is)

3) As for the Artificer I am okay with it in fact I had a player recently want to play one and we were working out the kinks for that class to fit it within the paradigm of the Forgotten Realms --- this version is modeled after the Rock Gnomes of Lantan which is even less spell oriented but still uses magic to power their technomagic devices If you would still be interested in this then again I would probably lean toward the Nezumi over the Tabaxi -- (or a Rock Gnome) for this but whatever race you chose they would have spent some time on Lantan first and we can discuss how they got from their lands to Lantan then how they got to Far Reach.

The Nezumi was something I found and was working on with another DM untill the game collapsed, Ill link the character from DND beyond but it was a homebrew so I won't be heartbroken if you say no. https://ddb.ac/characters/42179337/oLvjyd

Definitely not going to be a lone wolf, antisocial character. I may not be a veteran but don't see the point in that.
The main reason for artificer would be firearms if that helps in coming to a decision

Might be best to stick with a tabaxi, just to add more issues. Been playing with ideas and would it be okay to use the tabaxi as a base but play them as a fox?
Jan 4, 2021 2:22 am
So you are wanting to play a fox-humanoid over a Tabaxi or a Nuzemi -- can I ask why? Note I am not saying no just wanting to understand the why of it is all.

Further a Fox Humanoid has existed within Forgotten Realms since 2e but they are grouped under a broader category called Hengeyokai which are what the Shapechanger races all considered and they often get extremely confused with Lycanthropes outside their native country which is an extremely long way from Far Reach since Far Reach is closer to the Sword Coast so they would be a dangerous race to play within this area and while I would not say no you would have to have a really good story of how you got here and why your not being hunted?

That all said of the 3 races you have proposed I think the Nezumi would fit what you are wanting to do the best and as I said you might eventually encounter something a character of this race would find most interesting and perhaps horrifying at the same time.

As for that DnDBeyond link okay I saw a Nezumi character (which I said I was okay with just wanted to know the source you were using for it --OR-- if you would be okay with a version I pull together) further I think I see an Eberron Artificer which as I stated do not exist here within the Forgotten Realms we do have Artificers though but they look a wee bit different. Still you might just like this version over that other version.

As normal the Artificer is made up of three types: Chemist, Artillerist, and Machinist -- so yes the Artillerist uses firearms but then again normal "blackpowder" firearms are forbidden within the Forgotten Realms -- not entirely sure why but it is a over-arching precedent published in cannon material that is not going to change -- and those that use such items just seemingly disappear along with the memory that they ever existed, so yes this forbiddance is backed by powerful mages.

Still the Gnomes of Lantan do have firearms via their technomagic devices but these do not use blackpowder and like all Artificer gadgets are prone to break down if not constantly maintained by some trained specialist or an artificer artillerist which makes them not viable for use in mass.

Thanks, that clears alot up and answers some things for me
Forget the Tabaxi and fox, was just in case as I re read the rules and thought you might not allow the Nezumi.
Understand about the ebberon artificer, that was just to show the race more than anything as it was one I had ready for another game that collapsed before starting.
Very interested in the technomagic weapons, sounds very Warhammer Skaven style of firearms.
I'll do my rolls to determine stats and start putting together the base of the character.
I'll wait to do background as you stated before it would need to worked on.
And I'll pester you about how to work the technomagic weapons also then

Okay I will post my version of the Nezumi under the Character Creation Parameters -- Races section -- and I believe the Artificer class has been sketched out some already within that thread as well towards the bottom

Excellent, thanks I'll take a look in a moment

Rolls
(5/6/6) +6 = 23
(2/5/5) +6 = 18
(3/3/6) +6 = 18
(4/5/6) +6 = 21
(3/3/5) +6 = 17
(1/4/5) +6 = 16

I used a dice app to roll (away from home and dice at the moment) so saved screen shots. If not allowed I can roll again with actual dice in a couple days. Probably the best rolls I've ever had😂

Okay sorry but you are required to use the in post version so please reroll and use the tool by clicking Advanced and "Add" 6 Basic rolls you will get something that looks like the following (see below)

Then you choose 2 numbers from each roll and add the 6 -- this keeps it fair as it is what everyone else has done

And there you go -- did you see the right up on the Nuzemi ? Also under world dynamics within Patron and Races you are going to want to read the little write up on the Rock Gnomes of Lantan
Jan 4, 2021 7:46 am
Yes, loved it. I'll sort the Nezumi out to match yours. Loved the story of the gnomes.

Keep in mind your character came from their home of origin, ended up on Lantan and found they had a talent for being a Hybrid Artificer and then we go from there -- I am sure we can come up with a background story that is quite fitting

Your character will need to take Outlander as it simply fits is background to a T

As for you homeland, not sure how to describe other than it is perpetually dark and filled with predators that make you predominately just part of the food chain and definitely no where near the top. You watched as siblings and relatives got ripped apart and eaten more than once and the Ogres and Giants bag them up for later consumption or ate them right there on the spot. Further cannibalism is not something unheard of amongst your people but it is done respectfully by the willing or dead as a form of they are giving back to their clan so it may survive kind of thing. So to say that it was harsh and horrific would be kind of an understatement.
