Chapter 1 - Lantillies

Jan 6, 2021 3:33 pm
Lantillies, a bustling city-world, is a major player in shipping and shipbuilding industries, as it is located along the Perlemian Trade Route and sits at the end of the Randon Run hyperlane.

You’ve ended up here after the completion of your last job. Looking for work on a world of 100 story buildings didn’t seem like it would be all that hard. It took a few days to get to know the locals but your efforts have paid off. Now you’re sitting in the back room of a ‘lower class’ bar, just a few blocks from the main spaceport.

Jo’Thun surveyed the beings in front of him, Rodian, Togruta, Balozar, Xexto and a Droid. A varied lot to be sure, but he knew better than to confuse contents with coverings.

Well, it looks like we have a crew here. The Twi’lek smiled at the group. My name is, Jo’Thun, I manage some shipping interests that run through Lantillies. We’ve recently come up short a crew and as deadlines are what they are, well, I’d like to hire you to fly one of my ships to Gizer. It’s already loaded and on the pad. Once you arrive on Gizer, comm the Lantillian Brotherhood’s chapter house and ask for Corbin MacRogers. He’ll get the ship unloaded.

Jo’Thun surveyed the room to see if he’d lost anyone. MacRogers may have another cargo lined up, if so, and your still interested, please deliver it. I’m offering you 500 credits each for the run to Gazir, half now and half when MacRogers picks up the cargo. Our regular crews earn 1,000 credits a week and if we’re all still happy with each other at the end of the week, I’ll pay the remaining 500 creds. Any Questions?

Pergano's limbs are ever moving as he listens to Jo'Thun, one of his left arms is resting on the table with its fingers drumming on the table, one of his right hands seems to be picking through his jacket pockets at lent and fabric. The other two are clamped together with his index fingers pushing back and forth on each other as if he is contemplating with them.

Should we to expect any trouble while working the delivery?

The humble droid decides to add, "Related question: What happened to the ships previous crew?"

Jeswain sits, trying desperately to look confident. He knew he was lucky to be hired for this gig, and didn't want to blow it by saying something stupid. He simply nodded as the others asked questions.

One of Pergano's hands that are clasped together releases and points a finger at Ad-hoc and Pergano nods his head.

Ken's feet are up on the table, blaster dangling precariously from his hip. His small proboscis-like mouth narrows, perhaps a smile. Ken just wants enough money to get him off this planet, he's wary of getting suckered into another high risk low payoff job but what choice does he have right now? Still, it'd be at least good to have some idea what he was letting himself in for.

The young Balozar looked comfortable, if slightly bored, during the meeting. Blih didn't care much for delivery job. However, the pay was decent and the travelling experience could be useful for his own projects. As long as they were not used as patsy of some esort of course.

He listened carefully. He noted a few name, Gizer, Lantillian Brotherhood and Corbin MacRogers and tried to remember what he heard about them.

The crew seemed pretty green but decent. They were asking the right questions. He simply rephrased the Rodian's question in Basic, mostly to see how straighforward their employer answer would be.
"Anything sensitive about the cargo we should be aware of?"

Jo'Thun smiled to himself, asking questions was a good sign. It meant they were serious without being desperate.

Barring some random act of piracy, the trip to Gizer should be uneventful. Gizer also manufactures a few starships, but they don't have all of the supporting industries that we have here. So, fairly regularly they import what they need, the shipments are usually to small for the bigger shippers to take an interest. That's where we step in. In this case 'Fuel Atomizer Cones', they require some form of complex Metallurgy, cheaper to buy and ship than build a new factory on Gizer.

Jo'Thun looked at the Droid, his smile dropping a bit. As to the crew that was scheduled to make this run, their last delivery was several weeks ago, to Alderaan. At this point, we don't expect them back.

Standing, Jo'Thun produces a Datapad that he lays on his desk towards you. If there are no more pressing questions, here's a copy of the ship's manifest along with current Licenses, including the Anti-piracy permit for the ship's gun. If Mac doesn't have another cargo by the time you arrive, then our business will be concluded. However, we're always looking for solid crews and knowing Mac, he'll have something lined up. He's a real stickler for keeping the ships moving.
OOC:
Ken, I'm using your successful streetwise as both some of the research you did to find this job and your 'feel' from the conversation.

The background you discovered on the street is that Jo'Thun, while not adverse to the occasional smuggling, runs a pretty sizable business in legitimate transport. You're fairly sure that he has at least 3 shell companies that own ships so that people can't tell how big his operation is. Also, his choice of meeting places tends to lower people's opinion of him, further keeping him below the radar.

From your past experiences, this definitely felt like the first step in demonstrating you have what it takes to do more 'interesting' work.

Pergano grabs the manifest and looks it over looking for nothing specific.

Shall we go to the hanger than? he asks the crew around him.

"Agreed. There is no point in delaying" AD-hoc was eager to travel, having seen so little of the galaxy.

Everything seemed legit enough for Blih. He wouldn't have minded having a day to investigate about the job or any additional opportunity he could create from the trip however, there was definite advantage to an expeditious approach too. And he could find more once abord the ship too.

So the Balozar stand up, dust his coat a bit and follow the rest of the crew.

Jeswain knew this wasn't an ideal situation. He was out of his element, and felt like this whole thing could go sideways at any moment. Still, what choice did he have? He steels himself, looks Jo'Thun in the eye.

Seems fine to me. Let's get going.

This could be the beginning of a lucrative relationship thinks Ken. He languidly swings his legs down and gets to his feet. Posing with one hand on his hip he smiles again, 'Jee panway uba stell. Boska!'.

Heading out into the street, your met with a cool drizzle of rain. The beings moving along the streets all seem to be in a hurry, heads down and moving with purpose. Your group turns left and moves toward the spaceport, a looming control tower can be seen between buildings. With about a block to go, suddenly the skyscrapers part. The Spaceport lies in the middle of a ring of buildings. It's probably 5 km across the spaceport, and by the way the buildings come right up to it, it was most likely well outside of the city when it was constructed.

You enter the Spaceport and pass through the passenger terminals, heading for the private ship docks. The documents on the datapad Jo'Thun gave you are enough to allow you passage and soon your standing at the entry to Docking Bay 117, current location of the LongShot, a Lantillian GX1 Short Hauler. The datapad contains the lock code.

Ken looks the ship up and down, not bad he thinks. 'Coo sa faaway da pankpa?' he asks, glancing at the others, wondering which of them's the pilot.

He swaggers up to the loading ramp and taps on the metal bulkhead, 'Chuba watee. Oto naba de unko um stuta.'

Eyeing the blaster cannon he adds, with some difficulty, in Galactic Basic, 'I could fire the gun if you like.'

Pergano smiles at Ken and all four of his arms open up if for an embrace.

Don't you worry about who is going to fly this can, you couldn't be any better or plentiful hands he says with a chuckle.

Pergano walks up with Ken and opens the bulkhead door.

After you...

'Uba wonky kapa!' says Ken approvingly, the more hands the better as far as he's concerned.

He enters the ship ahead of Pergano and quickly tries to identify the best, biggest room in order to claim it as his own.

AD-hoc boards the ship and looks around before heading to the engine room, checking to make sure everything is in order when there.
Jan 9, 2021 1:09 am
Blih did not partake in the playful banter of his comrade. He make an attentive check of the outside of the ship. It was more than probable that their benefactor had a tracker on the ship since he was entrusting it to strangers. IF there was one, knowing its location could be valuable. He would have plenty of time to check the inside during the trip. He also paid attention to any smuggling compartment he could find.

After his check, he will go in and take a leftover room or bunk. Ideally near the middle.
