OOC:
This is for aquafina, dankel and Mike - your three characters have been with this caravan for well over 2 weeks and have fought along side one another. During that time the three of them became friends and decided to join forces and be an adventuring group
The trip to Far Reach was long and fraught with peril. On more than one occasion those being employed to protect the caravan definitely earned their keep be it wages at journeys end or safer passage to Boareskyr Bridge. However the last leg of the journey proved to be the worst. For upon the constantly wind swept fields of the Sky Plateau the group was set upon by a large contingency of raiders. It took a massive effort upon the protectors behalf to finally repel them leaving many badly wounded and a few dead. Still the caravan was able to make the safety of Titan's Cleave. It was rumored that a Titan's Great Sword had created the break in the Sky Plateau and it appeared that the rumor may have well been true for it resembled a jagged gaping wound. Still from there forward the most dangerous element was just the occasional falling rock as the caravan descended down through Titan's Cleave into the valley of Far Reach.

As the caravan begins moving out of the Cleave and into the valley proper one could see the fabled Boareskyr Bridge in the distance and next it the rather ramshackle town that rests at its southern end. The warmth of the valley was quite noticeable compared to the colder air of the Sky Plateau and one could imagine that at times it might actually get to be uncomfortably warm. Still the weather in the valley seemed to be pleasant enough right now and the grassy hills the caravan travels through seems peaceful enough. One could easily tell when one was getting close to the village as even a few farmhouses had already sprung up indicating that some protection was being given to the region immediately south of the village.

Upon arrival just short of the town but in sight of the large wooden sign labeled "Southbridge Village", for those who can read, the caravan pauses for inspection. A small contingency of archers flank the caravan on either side while four seasoned looking veterans walk the length of the caravan two to a side and a fifth with a writing board speaks with the caravan master up front. Their surcoats over their chain mail denote them as followers of different deities. The one up front who is obviously a well-groomed Tiefling wears an equally fine surcoat of Kelemvor while one of the walkers who is obviously a Dragonborn wears the surcoat of Bahamut, next to him is a Human wearing the surcoat of Torm, on the other side is an Elf wearing the surcoat of Correllon and along side him a fFolk wearing the surcoat of Lathander. While a mixed group of deities even the most unknowledgeable in religion would easily note that they are all deities associated with law and order. Perhaps these were some of the actual seven Paladins that are rumored to be the anchor of government and safety here.
Jan 15, 2021 4:59 pm
On their walk back up from the rear of the caravan the Dragonborn states in Humanish in a deep booming voice that is easily heard by all. "We here welcome you all to Southbridge Village. Please refrain from excessive rowdiness as that may get you a visit to our wonderful stockade. If any of you are planning to stay on please report to the garrison in the next few days as all long term residents are expected to actively help with the defenses of the village. Other than that we hope you enjoy your stay here in Southbridge Village."
OOC:
If any of you wish to explore the village let me know otherwise we can assume the three have agreed to go to the garrison straight away upon arrival to hopefully be the first from this caravan so they can get the best potential assignments or maybe word of someone looking for some adventurers to solve a problem for them. Of course, if your character has any questions they wish to pose to someone feel free to do that as well.

For the entire ride, Quincy has been nice and polite to his fellow travelers, if not a little quiet. He tells his travel companions about his time studying and training at the House of the Hand, and his receiving of his expertly crafted spear, made specifically for him by his mentor. On subjects such as family or reasons for traveling to Far Reach, he becomes a bit quieter and more recluse, respectfully declining to share much.

He spends a short time every morning and every evening meditating and reviewing a few pieces of parchment which detail prayers to Torm and notes from his time at the monastery. And he spends most of the ride on the caravan pouring over maps he has of different regions, and creating a new one as they go along, closing his eyes and slowing his breathing every time the wagon lurches and an ink mark gets smudged or a drop of water plops onto the parchment. He looks in amazement at the Titan's Cleave and Boareskyr Bridge, and immediately begins mapping them out and drawing them with his tools, making little notes and observations on the side.

He is friendly-faced with all the guards that meet them, but gives a nod of extra respect and appreciation towards the human donning the symbol of Torm. After arriving in the small town, he turns to Corwyn and Magnus, "Well, compatriots, shall we head on to the garrison?"
Jan 16, 2021 2:07 pm
Magnus nods approvingly to the Dragonborn and turning to Quincy says "Yes, I agree, we can look round the village another time"
Reflecting on his journey Magnus is thankful to Torm for their safe arrival and is pleased to have fallen in with good company, both Corywn and the slightly enigmatic Quincy seem like good people to have at your side in a tight situation.
"The valley looks beautiful and peaceful, if we can do some good here by protecting people then the journey will have been worth it"
Jan 16, 2021 4:48 pm
Corwyn has been admiring the scenery on the approach to the village and making a mental note of the lie of the land, adding to his knowledge of different lands. He smiles in response to the dragonborn paladin's greeting.
"Sounds good - the garrison it is," he replies to Quincy and Magnus, "let's see what use they might have for us - and our varied skills."

It does not take the group long to enter through the ramshackle looking gate. Although, up close one can obviously see that the gates and the wall are actually quite sturdy they just appear to be shoddy due to their non-uniform lengths. Still the gates are not the first thing one notices as they get near as an odor wafts out to greet them first. The strong scent of animals, manure, cooking, campfire smoke, and earth all mix together creating a none civilized smell that while pungent is not necessarily unpleasant, especially for those who prefer outdoor living versus city living. The dirt packed streets are lined with make-shift board walks making it obvious that when the streets get wet they might not be easily navigable. The semi-sea of kaleidoscopic tents seem to make up the bulk of the interior accompanied by the din of the marketplace that they represent. Off in the distance rising above these tents like majestic wooden towers stand five wooden structures the signs hanging from them, due to their shape as they are too far away to make out clearly, indicating that they were Inns. The fact that these flat roofed structures actually stand taller than the walls lends to the sense that perhaps they are even used as towers when needed. The road stretches out in front of them as well as going off to the right and there is a well worn path off to the left that seems to lead to one of the Inns. There is an Inn to their left and one to their right, another further down and to their left, and yet another even further down and to their left, the last appears to be directly across the near center of the central marketplace. Several guards stand just inside the gate holding halberds and then of course the various vendors and customers of the marketplace are milling about near by. However, there is no obvious sign that says this way to the garrison.
Jan 19, 2021 1:32 am
Corwyn approaches one of the guards. "Excuse me - we have just arrived and have been told to report to the garrison. Could you give us directions to the garrison please?"
Jan 19, 2021 2:51 am
The guards watch and tense a bit as Corwyn approaches as if perhaps anticipating violence. At his question though the guards relax a bit and the one guard replies, "Take the road to the right it will take you straight there."
Jan 19, 2021 8:21 am
"Thanks," he responds with a smile and strides off in the direction the guard indicated.

Magnus nods at the guard and says "May Torm bless you"
Jan 19, 2021 9:09 pm
The group continues down the dirt packed road towards the Fort drawing curious looks from time to time and it becomes fairly obvious that the village is veritable mixing pot of races and nations. Further the market place mostly off to their left is a bustling maze of commerce in constant action. Meanwhile, travel via the main streets within the village seems pretty easy as there appears to be only three. One that goes from the south gate to the north gate, one that comes off that road near the south gate and heads almost straight to the Fort and then another that goes from the Fort back to that road connecting with it near the north gate. However once you get off a main road the tents appear to be a haphazard maze of narrow walkways interspersed with small open areas where a tent once stood.

The group eventually arrives at a bridge that separates the village from the fort. The bridge itself which looks rather crude turns out to be very stable and probably capable of handling a pretty heavy load before even complaining. Upon reaching the guard post located on the village side of the bridge the group is stopped as one of the guards steps forward, "Please state the nature of you business here?"
Jan 19, 2021 10:46 pm
"Greetings. We have just arrived with the caravan that came in. We were told to report to the garrison if we were planning to stay for a while," he replies.
Jan 19, 2021 11:15 pm
"Ah okay well you will need to check all your weapons with him," he points off to his right where a man sits at a small table with book. "Then we search you to make sure you are not holding out. Then we check you and if everything checks out we escort you in. Fairly routine procedure."
Jan 19, 2021 11:37 pm
"Fair enough." He walks over to the man with the book, gives his name and hands in all the weapons listed in his character sheet, including the hunting knife, handaxe, spare bundle of arrows and razor. He then stands with his arms apart, submitting to the search.
Jan 19, 2021 11:47 pm
"Of course." Quincy replies, "May you find peace." he says with a slight bow to the guard. He follows Corwyn over to the next guard with the book. He gladly hands over his darts, but hesitates for only but a moment in handing over his spear. It is his most prized possession. Of course, material possessions shouldn't hold too much sway over a person of his background and philosophy, but this weapon is special. A relic of a treasured person, who Quincy will not be able to see until he crosses over into the next life, guided by the hands of Torm the True. But nevertheless, he hands over the spear to be checked, then follows suit in submitting to the search.
Jan 25, 2021 10:11 pm
OOC:
Okay hopefully we have not lost dankel but I will assume their character complies
The man at the table takes the character's name makes a few notes then records the items being surrendered which are then carefully gathered by another guard and placed in a box or in a tall urn. Once all the weapons are turned over and each person is respectfully checked for any hidden weapons another guard steps up and says, "Left hand please," he demonstrates by holding out his left hand palm up. Upon compliance he places a small orb into the palm of your hand. Corwyn being first the orb glows a soft blue and the guards says, "Divine caster." Then while another guard approaches Corwyn holding out a dark metal short bracer saying, "Left wrist please." the guard with the orb moves to Quincy and repeats his statement but this time the orb glows a soft yellow. The guard pauses a moment then says, "Okay hold off the bracer we have a Chi user, you three will have to wait for one of the Paladins to return. Please step back over there." He points to a spot a few feet away and a five guards surround the group.
Jan 25, 2021 10:23 pm
After a little while the one of the paladins, the one that spoke out earlier, can be seen coming down the road. As he arrives he asks, "What is with those three?" He motions towards the group.

The guard responds, "A Chi user sir"

The Dragonborn glances over to the group, "Alright you three with me." he says then looks back to the guard and says, "Standard protocols."

The guard responds, "Yes sir."

The Dragonborn leads the group across the bridge's expanse below it is just cliffs and dark water. The group is followed by five guards. On the opposite side is a wooden palisade with a gate that is about half the height of the Forts 30 foot walls that encloses the area directly in front of the gatehouse itself. The stark difference between the wood and the old but very solid looking stone is quite noticeable making the palisade seem even more inferior than it is. This little courtyard of a sorts is filled with a handful of men, numerous small barrels holding ammo and even a small catapult. However perhaps the most noticeable things within the courtyard sit just inside the gate on either side, a pair of sturdy tierces (aka @40 gallon barrel) painted bright red.

As the group passes through this little courtyard uneventfully their rear guard switches out and the first five head back across the bridge while a second five take up the rear guard. Other than this the group only draws some glances from curious guards. They then pass under the open exterior portcullis through the gatehouse and then under the interior portcullis. Those experienced in castle design could easily see the the murder holes and ceiling holes used to decimate any trapped units. The gatehouse opens into another courtyard that surrounds a 3 story fortified stone building that sits in the middle. If there were stables they were around back because they could not be seen from here. Sitting on the steps of of this building is a old looking Gnome smoking an usual pipe, he watches the group as they approach with seemingly casual interest.
Jan 25, 2021 10:24 pm
The wizened old gnome puffing on his rather unusual pipe calls out, "Got some new recruits Sha or are these volunteers for me experiments?"
Jan 25, 2021 10:25 pm
"No Kezzel these are just recruits." the Dragonborn replies and walks up the short steps and opens one of the large doors waiting for the others to step inside.
Jan 26, 2021 12:17 am
Quincy worries about leaving his spear behind as they trek across the bridge and into the fort. He looks behind him longingly a couple times, but after a couple deep breaths and a bit of a recentering of his mind, he is back in the moment. He isn't sure why being a Chi manipulator and channeler is very noteworthy, but he remains quiet on the matter. As they travel through following behind the Dragonborn, Quincy looks all around the fort, studies its layout and shape, so that maybe once they're done here he can make a sketch of the place and a rudimentary map of the fort grounds. As they pass the old gnome, (as he does with all new strangers) he smiles and gives a slight bow, then follows the Dragonborn inside.
Jan 26, 2021 6:00 am
Corwyn makes a mental note of the route in.
Jan 26, 2021 8:42 pm
Magnus has calmly handed over his weapons and held his peace whilst the group was led across the bridge and into the castle. He nods to the old gnome and then follows the Dragonborn through the doors.
Jan 26, 2021 9:22 pm
As the group passes through the door they step into a 20 foot wide hallway and, once the group has entered the Dragonborn steps in, then the remaining five rear guards enter and the door is closed. This completely shuts out the exterior light as there are no windows within the hallway and so finely are these doors set not even a crack of light can be seen about them. Still the evenly spaced wall sconces provide ample light to the hallway but whose fires, which are noticed by all, give off no smoke indicating that some sort of magic was at work here. To the groups immediate right and left a pair of doors but the Dragonborn, after entering proceeds down the hallway. At the opposite end of the hallway are another set of large doors but prior to getting them there are two sets of stairs the one one on the left leads up and the one on the right leads down. The Dragonborn escorts the group up the stairs to the left. At the top of the stairs the hallway Ts and arrow slit windows can be seen in the outer wall, the Dragonborn turns to his left and escorts the to the first door on their left and opens it and motions that they should enter.

Upon entering the room the group sees a Dwarf sitting behind a desk nearly opposite the and an Elf standing slightly behind him and to his left. Off to the right is another desk, presumably the Elf's, and to the right of the door on the same wall is a large book shelf holding books and scrolls. Behind the Dwarf's desk is a large map on the wall. Once the group has enter the Dragonborn steps in and off to the left but guards do not enter. "New recruits." he says.
Jan 26, 2021 9:25 pm
The Dwarf nods and says, "Greetings I am commander Kustaa and this is my chief Lieutenant Weimin," the Elf gives a nod, "and you have already met general Shahadur. Your presence here indicates you are wanting to join the garrison as you plan to remain in this village for an extended period of time. Is that correct?"
Jan 27, 2021 6:58 am
"Greetings," he responds to commander Kustaa and nods to the other two officers. "That is so. My companions and I have a variety of skills and wonder if these might be of some assistance, sir. My name is Corwyn and I am a ranger. He looks to his friends thinking it best if they describe their skills themselves.
Jan 27, 2021 2:12 pm
"Indeed, that is our intent, master Kustaa." he bows a little bit. "I am Quincy. I am trained in the monastic traditions of combat, Chi manipulation, and philosophy, and a pretty good cartographer too.
Jan 29, 2021 11:59 am
Magnus nods " My name is Magnus, I am a priest of a Torm and before that a soldier, I served in the Flaming Fists, at Baldur's Gate. I would be honoured to join this garrison".
Jan 29, 2021 9:07 pm
"Alright, good to meet thee all and now to the first order of business getting you sworn in. Weimin here will call each of you forward to take the Oath but first are there any questions before we proceed?"
Jan 29, 2021 10:12 pm
"Yes sir. How long is the period of service that you would wish to take us on for and what would be the terms?"
Jan 29, 2021 10:28 pm
"Good questions Corwyn, for myself I am happy to swear any reasonable oath providing it does not conflict with my calling"
Jan 29, 2021 10:39 pm
"Yes, I agree, what exactly will our responsibilities be after we've taken oath? I am happy to comply, but would like to know beforehand.
Jan 29, 2021 11:21 pm
The elf responds, "There are numerous services that can be provided by you but I believe assignments might be more to your liking. Otherwise there is guard duty, street cleaning, and a plethora of other jobs that need attending to and should we come under attack you will be expected to participate in the village's defense no matter what service you chose. The length of your service is equal to the length of time you plan to be a member of this village. Everyone is expected to do their part to maintain this village's order and upkeep. That being said if you do not choose to do assignments then the amount of commitment is determined by the assignment taken."
Jan 29, 2021 11:46 pm
Quincy bows his head, "This is more than agreeable to me, thank you. I do not believe I have any further questions." He looks to his side at his companions.

"That is acceptable to me too" says Magnus
Jan 30, 2021 11:56 pm
"That is acceptable to me also," responds Corwyn. "You mentioned that 'assignments' might be more to our liking. Did you have any in mind that might you be able to share with us?" he pauses, "After we've sworn the oath of course."
Jan 31, 2021 7:24 am
"Yes once the oath has been sworn we can discuss garrison business."
Jan 31, 2021 9:41 am
The elf walks over to the other desk and sets down his book then he takes a small pedestal and turns to face the group and then from the back of it he pulls out an orb then says, "Please step forward one at a time and take this orb into your left hand and read these words upon this podium. If you cannot read I will recite them to you so that you can say them."

The Oath
I hereby enter into this oath willingly and of my own volition.
For as long as I carry the mark of the Garrison of Bridgefort I
will do my best to protect Bridgefort, Southbridge Village and
its law-abiding citizens from harm of any sort. So be it thus forth
Jan 31, 2021 2:37 pm
Quincy steps forward and takes the orb in his left hand. For but a second he rolls it around in his hand, thinking of the reason he travelled so far to Far Reach: seeking an object, an artifact, that to his (very scarce) knowledge, he could be holding in his hand right now.

He looks up to Weimin, and reads the oath off of the podium aloud. Then hands the orb off to the next person.
Jan 31, 2021 4:13 pm
When Quincy completes the oath the orb and his hand briefly glow blue and he feels a tingling sensation within his hand that seems to then travel up his arm and then resonate throughout his entire being then finally settle back into his left arm from his hand to his heart.

For Magnus and Corwyn the orb and their hand briefly glow blue and nothing more.
Jan 31, 2021 10:17 pm
Corwyn reads the oath.
OOC:
I assume he can as he is a spellcaster.
He is intrigued by the blue orb as it briefly glows blue.

He looks expectantly at the officers, hoping to hear more about any 'assignments'.
Feb 3, 2021 2:00 am
Quincy considers asking about the tingling sensation he felt after taking the oath, but decides against it, for he's not sure if he wants them to know about it. He pays close attention to how Corwyn and Magnus react to the orb, and thinks it strange that they do not seem to be stimulated any extra by it. He studies the orb from afar, committing its likeliness to memory so he can sketch it later, and begins mentally writing down what he will write down in his notebook as soon as they leave.

-Map of the Garrison
-Sketch of blue orb, glowed and tingled when took oath, didn't seem to have extra effect on other two
-Names and descriptions of the elf and the dwarf, Weimin and Kustaa
-Weimin procured the orb and book for us
-Kustaa and Weimin did not react to my extra sensation while taking the oath

Feb 8, 2021 2:23 pm
As far as Quincy could tell neither Corwyn nor Magnus had any physical affects while holding the orb. Once everyone was sworn in Kustaa says, "Alright now if you have any questions for us concerning the village we will share with you what we can. As to missions we currently have two but perhaps getting your feet wet would be better to new arrivals than diving in deeply. So we would like you to look into an issue that Weimin feels is more than just coincidence, Weimin."
Feb 8, 2021 2:27 pm
"Right, I have reason to believe that some recent activity south of the village is not random events, we have gotten periodic reports that to me seem that there is perhaps something more involved. As such we would like you to investigate this thoroughly and determine if there is anything to my suspicions. Basically the reports I have been getting is that the farmers are experiencing animal losses along with equipment and crop damage more so recently than usual."
Feb 8, 2021 5:00 pm
"Interesting. I am more than happy to take on this assignment." He closes his eyes and bows his head in respect. "Who shall we contact when we arrive to the farms? And what is the quickest route there?"
Feb 8, 2021 10:46 pm
"Good we have a local that can serve as a guide and scout his name is Hathaqua and he can usually be found at Mams Inn. I would suggest talking with the various farmers to see if they know anything or have experienced anything. Use that first hand information to determine if there is an issue and if possible deal with that issue as needed. We would like a report within one weeks time or sooner if you conclude business earlier than that."
Feb 9, 2021 1:53 am
"Sounds interesting. I'll assist in any way I can. It would be good to have a local like Hathaqua with us."
Feb 9, 2021 5:07 am
"Indeed. Thank you, if there is nothing else.." he looks to his companions, "we shall take our leave immediately and begin work on this matter."
Feb 9, 2021 7:47 pm
"If you have no questions, then no that is all."
OOC:
Note you are welcome to go about things but I would think you might have some questions that you might want answered. Like do you get paid, is there lodging, where is Mams Inn and anything else along those lines that might interest the group.
Feb 10, 2021 1:00 am
Seeing the meeting is about to come to a close, Corwyn decides to ask questions about the conditions of employment. He had intended to ask earlier but did not want to be too direct and assumed the officers would explain these after swearing them in.
OOC:
As well as DeJoker's post:)
"Now you mention it, I have a few questions before we go sir. Can you tell us what the conditions of our service are, while we are serving in the garrison? I refer to rates of pay and what the terms are for any treasure we acquire on service. In addition, what is the position about lodgings while we are serving in the garrison? Also, we are new arrivals in Southbridge and would be grateful if you could direct us to 'Mam's Inn."
Feb 10, 2021 1:22 am
"Ah was wondering if any of you cared about those things," Kustaa says with a chuckle. "While you are serving you are allotted a stipend based on the assignment taken. Which you can collect once a week. Further while on assignment one has free room and board here at the garrison, for certain particularly difficult assignments there is a period of respitorium where for one week or until fully recovered one has access to the barracks and mess hall. You can also requisition necessary equipment within reason in order to carry out your assignments. The barracks are on the first floor as well as the mess hall, no alcohol is to be had within the garrison. Other than reporting your findings on an assignment, you generally can keep all that you find. Mamz Inn," he emphasizes the pronunciation of the Z, "can be found in the northwest corner of the village the towering structure with the face of a female Yroc, specifically Mamzrik's face."
OOC:
Note 1 Week is also called a Tenday and is equivalent to 10 days
Feb 10, 2021 1:44 am
Corwyn nods, "Thank you sir." Satisfied with the information for now, he looks to his companions in case any of them have questions.
OOC:
What time of day is it now? This will affect what we choose to do next.

Late morning early afternoon after break-fast and before midday-meal
Feb 10, 2021 2:21 pm
Magnus nods and says "I think that answers our immediate questions and it is good that you are providing a guide. Before we head on to Mamz Inn can you tell me if there is a temple or chapel devoted to Torm in the village, if so I would like to pay my respects and pray for guidance"

Feb 10, 2021 2:39 pm
"No there are no temples nor shrines currently setup within the village, although setting up a universal shrine is something we have been planning on doing. Would you care to take on the responsibility of getting that planned and built?"
Feb 10, 2021 2:45 pm
Quincy turns to Magnus, "The monastery I come from was dedicated to Torm. I would love to aid you if we decide to do this, Magnus."
Feb 11, 2021 9:35 pm
"It is something I may consider and I will pray for guidance on this matter, and if I feel that I should dedicate myself to this then I would would more than welcome your aid in this matter - I am sure we would work well together!"
Feb 12, 2021 6:30 am
"Indeed," nods Corwyn. Looking to Kustaa he says, "Unless there is anything else, we shall take our leave and visit Mamz Inn and speak to Hathaqua."

Kustaa shakes his head no, "No we have nothing more, we expect our recruits to be fairly independent, if you have no more question then feel free to get started just be sure to give us a report at least once a week on the situation and your progress."
Feb 12, 2021 6:40 pm
Quincy smiles back, "Of course, we will be in touch. Thank you both." and nods in respect to Kustaa and Weimin. If everyone else follows, he will begin heading out the way they came, taking another study of the layout as they leave, repeating in his head what he needs to write in his journal so he doesn't forget it. Adding to the list:
-Check back at the garrison once a week.
-Mamz Inn, Hathaqua
-Free room and board at garrison while on assignment.
-Can requisition within reason. Can keep anything we find (good), but must be reported.

As they approach the outside of the garrison, Quincy remembers his quarterstaff, and while not expressing it outwardly, begins worrying about how it has faired during this meeting. It is the one thing that can make him anxious and off balance, and the hourglass is running low.
Feb 13, 2021 6:26 am
Corwyn smiles to the officers as Quincy speaks and follows Quincy. He will be glad to retrieve all of his weapons, feeling slightly concerned at having to deposit them all. "Given the time of day we will have loads of time to go Mamz Inn and speak to Hathaqua, once we've got our weapons back."
Feb 13, 2021 1:43 pm
Magnus says "It will be good to get our weapons back, even though we are in a place of safety I've been a soldier too long to be comfortable without my weapons"
Feb 13, 2021 2:47 pm
The group makes there way out of the garrison fort passing by the old gnome still smoking his unusual pipe and back across the bridge where are able to collect all of their gear without incident. One of the guards asks, "So are you all staying or are you leaving with the next caravan out of here?"
Feb 14, 2021 6:52 am
"We had a bit of difficulty getting here - our caravan was attacked. Reckon we'll be staying for a bit. We've just joined the garrison so you'll be seeing more of us," replies Corwyn.
Feb 14, 2021 7:32 pm
The guard nods to Corwyn then brings his left fist up to his chest and says, "For the Village." and a blue glowing sigil appears on the back of his hand. Then he lowers his hand.
Feb 14, 2021 10:48 pm
Quincy is perplexed by this and tries it himself. He brings up his left fist and bows slightly towards the guard, "For the village." he says hesitantly, watching his arm.

When Quincy gives it a try nothing seems to happen. The guard nods and says, "Ah you have not learned yet, it is not the gesture that triggers the sigil it is your thoughts and your heart that you put into it. The more it means to you then the brighter it glows. The dwarves even have a contest of whom can make theirs shine the brightest. So when doing it think about protecting the village and its citizens."
Feb 14, 2021 11:58 pm
Quincy, accustomed to and formally trained in centering himself meditatively, retreats into his mind. He filters out everything but the village, its people, and their collective safety. His senses cease to register anything, until he opens his eyes and tries again, with conviction.

Hmmm. I mean, he did literally just arrive here an hour ago lol, so he can't be fully gung-ho about it yet. But he is here on a mission help himself and his family, and so to some degree he really does feel it. And he's a monk whose monastery taught principles similar to these. So probably like a 6/7.

The sigil glows brightly the guard seems rather surprised, "Well that is the first time I have seen a new recruit make it glow that brightly. You have family here or something?"
Feb 15, 2021 12:46 am
Quincy smiles down at his arm as it glows, and a sense of determination washes over him. He smiles back at the guard, "Not that I know of. May you find peace." he says as a farewell and gives a nod of respect to the guard. He looks to his crewmates to follow along as he makes his ways towards the Mamz Inn, but saying nothing else. Adding to the list of mental notes a description of what he had to do to make it light up, and how it looked when it was.

Corwyn follows relieved that he did not try the 'salute' with the clenched fist. He has only just arrived in the village. Although he wishes to fight evil in general and is keen to do his best in his new role, he does not - yet - feel sufficient attachment to the village that might make his fist glow blue. He has no wish to embarass himself.

Magnus follows Quincy and Corwyn, deciding against gesturing with the sigil. "Well, I don't know about you two but a drop of good ale would not go amiss right now, I have developed a definite thirst!"

"Indeed. That was quite something wasn't it?" he says to Corwyn, his eyes staying focused on his arm. "But yes, let's get to the Mamz Inn as soon as possible and meet this Hathaqua they were telling us about." And of course that was true, but really all he could think about was his arm, and the orb, and for Torm's sake a minute or two alone, just him and his journal so he could write these things down.

After gathering their weapons and the short exchange with the guard the group was faced with a choice go left or go right. However, since the right path seemed to be the more direct path it was a fairly easy choice and the group headed down road to their right. This road passes the central market place on its left and one the other Inns off to their right before arriving very close to the north gate where it joins the road that runs north-south through the village. Across this road past an entertainers wagon which is currently closed up, and then down a path banked by merchant tents they come to the door to Mamz Inn. Upon entering the place they are immediately struck by its more rustic appearance and atmosphere. Animal heads adorn the walls higher up and an open hearth off to their right sports some animal carcass roasting upon a spit. Off to their left are several targets used for throwing knives, axes, spears and such. The clientele are also very rustic and predominately Yrocs with a handful of Uriaks as well as Humans and a few other more barbaric oriented individuals. The place is fairly loud and boisterous.
Feb 17, 2021 6:53 pm
Walking into the bar Magnus casting his eye around at the clientele cannot help noticing the large number of Yroc, orcs, he thinks to himself, his mind flashing back to when he was attacked and left for dead by a band of Yroc. Must remember they may be good people, he thinks. With a fixed smile on his face he moves towards the bar.
Feb 17, 2021 6:59 pm
OOC:
There was no mention of a Bar as most of these Inns do not even have the concept of a Bar further most do not have tables and chairs either as this is an old world tavern/inn like setting -- in this specific Inn they use half-barrels for chairs and barrels for mini-tables and they can set up a trestle table and benches if needed but currently none are as there is large open space currently unoccupied where perhaps that would have been set up in.
Feb 17, 2021 7:17 pm
Corwyn looks around to see if he can see the innkeeper and also for anyone who looks like they might be the guide Hathaqua.
Feb 17, 2021 7:52 pm
Corwyn sees a lot of Yrocs, Uriak, and Humans but no one wearing a label that denotes them as being Hathaqua. However, he does hear comments like "Thank you mam," and "Mam may I please have a refill." and considering the atmosphere that is exceedingly strange or perhaps its some kind of insider joke.

As Quincy enters the Inn he is immediately disappointed by the lack of places to sit so that he could sit and write. But that annoyance is brief, and he makes his way into the crowd unintimidated. He walks up to the first person and asks them, "Excuse me, would you happen to know if there is a Hathaqua here in the Mamz?" (with emphasis on the z in Mamz, he's not sure what the deal with that is, but tries to play it off as if he did). If they respond that they don't he'll simply thank them and move on to the next person. (Unless no one seems to know who that is).
Feb 18, 2021 6:08 am
The Yroc looks at Quincy and then throws back his head and bellows out, "Hathaqua a midget's lookin' fer ya." The sound of his voice resounds through out the room. Then he looks back down at Quincy, "Puny little man, why you in this place, this place for tough folks, strong folks? You look like... little girl."
Feb 18, 2021 6:39 am
Quincy smiles back, "Oh, I do? Why, thank you." He knows that was meant as an insult, but is not threatened by it and sees no purpose in being offended or provoked. If anyone eventually responds to the Yroc's bellow, Quincy will whistle over to the Corwyn and Magnus and head to greet them.
Feb 18, 2021 7:22 am
Corwyn looks to see if anyone has reacted, as if theur name was called when the Yroc shouts "Hathaqua." He also looks to see which person is having the 'mam' remarks made to them.
Feb 18, 2021 9:18 am
As the Yroc shouts out he seemed to put an odd emphasis on the name and a quiet groan comes from a group across the inn who seemed to be engaged in some sort of game. Some of the Yroks and Uriaks are smiling widely and you hear comments of "Did you hear that Hathaqua, someone's here to see you!" and "Go on Hathaqua buy the girl a drink!" as a low chuckling noise comes from the group.

One of the Uriaks leaning against the sideboard stands up, "Shaddup you lot! 'Ent no-one but me dad allowed to call me that and you all know it."

He moves over to the group of newcomers and looks over each of them. "Well none of you is me Da' and I don't owe anyone no money..." An Uriak in the back begins to speak but Hathaqua cuts him off "I don't owe you nothin' Giz. Ya won the round but ya still owe me for the bottle of whiskey you spilled last week when you were too pissed ta walk straight!"

He turns back to the group "You's must be here from the garrison, only that bloody Weimin still gives people my full name. Can't be helped though, he's an old friend of me Da's and he'll call me that 'till the day he dies. Name's Hath. What can I do for ya?"

It is fairly easy for Corwyn to see who is responding to the name Mam as she is a towering figure of divine female Yroc flesh standing close to 8 feet in height and rather well muscled. She is also just as mouthy as the rest of the lot within the Inn but it is apparent that she commands a major measure of respect from all within and considering the crowd that says alot.
Feb 18, 2021 2:03 pm
The Yroc Quincy approached is not deterred my his response and instead cuffs Quincy on the shoulder which would have probably slightly staggered someone not so centered. "Oi boy dat is not 'ow ya respond, dat get ya killed. Speak up fer yaself, stand ya ground unless ya really be a girl dat is, and fer a Human ya'd be a mighty ugly one if ya were. So tell me lad, can ya fight, or yee be as yella as ya sound?"
Feb 18, 2021 4:40 pm
Suddenly caught between two conversations, Quincy tries his best to hear both people speaking to both him and the group, then first turns to Hath, "Yes, we are newly arrived here in town and were just inducted into the garrison, just one moment please though, sorry." He then turns to the Yroc, "Yes I a man, and yes, I can fight. I am trained in the art of ki combat, and I can swing this quarterstaff here pretty well." he brings the quarterstaff around and holds it in both hands and swings it around a tiny bit, displaying its master craftsmanship and perfect balance. "Now, I apologize, but we are on a mission here, and I need to speak with this gentleman here. May you find peace." he gives a respectful nod and goes to turn away from the Yroc, hoping that was enough to dismiss him without inciting an incident.

Magnus says "Yes we are here from the garrison, sent to speak to Hath about certain matters, is there anywhere we can continue this conversation in private?" He looks around at the Yrocs, feeling the tension rise within him, through his mind he keeps thinking " you are a man of god now, do not give in to your base instincts and start a brawl.

Quincy smiles back, "Yes, I do fight with my bare hands, and do it pretty well. But I am not in the mood to show off right now if that’s okay."
Feb 18, 2021 10:40 pm
"Good I accept challenge," with that the Yroc stands up and is a good foot or two taller than Quincy and he bellows, "Bare fight! This human challenge Mukitz to bare fight and Mukitz accept!" Some hooting and hollering takes place in approval and some of patrons further away begin to collect around the large open space on the floor. Mukitz begins taking off his gear and then hands a small rodent to Hath, "Hath you watch stuff and hold Boo so he can see." Then he finishes stripping down completely before stepping into the circle.

Quincy sighs. This isn’t what he wanted but he supposed if he wants to fit in around town and play nice, he’ll have to get used to their ways. "That’s... that’s actually not what I said. But fine."

He turns to Magnus and Corwyn, handing one of them his quarterstaff and backpack. His voice becomes grave, "Please keep these safe. Watch for pickpockets." Turning to meet Hath’s eyes, "I apologize, but I guess I have something to take care of before we can talk."

He is already dressed for the occasion and so he doesn’t have to go through the whole process of taking anything off, he simply steps into the ring, and stands still for a moment, breathing deeply with his eyes closed, centering himself before slowly reopening his eyes and taking a prepared stance.

When Quincy turns to the floor to begin to take his place he sees that Mukitz is completely naked apparently a bare fight is one you do the ole style way, with no clothes. Perhaps an old tradition to prevent someone from hiding any weapons.
OOC:
Yes roll your Initiative (1d10 + Dex Mod) -- I use 1d10 as it increase the benefit of having a higher Dex as I feel it should. Note all damage is subdual damage unless you state otherwise -- keep in mind trying to kill another citizen is illegal -- oh and go ahead and be cinematic about your combat if you like -- you are using martial arts versus brawling tactics -- and if anyone is curious and has Nature Lore -- Boo is a Pika but he does not sneeze much ;) so no Ah-Chu

Oh crap, you right haha, my bad. I was thinking of another character of mine. So yes, Quincy hands over his spear. I think I mixed it up a while ago and then continued to misremember it.
Quincy is surprised when he reopens his eyes to see his opponent completely naked. But just thinks, alright, this might as well happen. He throws off his robes and sets them on the side of the ring.

He waits patiently for his opponent to make the first move. And as soon as the yroc begins to charge and reach for him, he ducks out of the way, landing a quick jab into his side as he fumbles by, throwing him off his balance. Quincy uses this opportunity to sweep the yroc's legs out from under him, sending him clattering to the ground. Before he can even get up, Quincy lands another punch into the yroc's stomach.

I'm assuming the 22 and 19 hit him so I will roll damage for that. With the Open Hand technique, I will force him to make a Dex saving throw for the first Flurry strike or be knocked prone, and hopefully get advantage on the second. If he passes that saving throw then I will make him make another one for the second Flurry strike. And yes, he is definitely not trying to actually kill this dude, all nonfatal damage. If I did something wrong or missed something just let me know, I know that was a lot of a sudden and I've never played a monk before lol.

For those whom it might affect -- Simple Weapons (Unarmed Strike) is Finesse and deals 1d3-1 base damage plus STR or DEX modifier based on which was used to attack with. Tavern Brawler does not increase the Martial Weapon Unarmed Strike damage and thus is primarily used to bring a Simple Weapon user up to a Martial Weapon user's status. No it just did not signal me that a new post had been made -- but I think your Damage is off a smidge

First Hit Crit (9 + 1d4) ?? Your weapon damage is 1d4 thus max from Crit would be 4 + 1d4+4 thus if I am understanding the rolls correctly that would be 4 + 1d4(3) + 4 = 11 damage

BUT -- you did not roll a subsequent d20 to see if you extended the Crit. All you looking for is if you get another 20 as Crits can be exploding but rarely do so.

And the Second Hit was (1d4(3)+4) = 7 --- so assuming you do not Crit again total damage in 4th round was 18

The last two hits was about all the big Yroc could take and the foot into his chest laid him out soundly. Some of those watching toss coins into the circle, while someone else throws some ale into Mukitz face. Mukitz shakes off the ale with a groan and runs a hand over his face then props himself up on his elbow. "Well done kid, that some mighty impressive skills you have and the money is yours you won it." Then he looks over towards Hath and says, "You were right Boo he is something different." He begins to walk away from the circle before remembering the coins, it’s not that he needs the money, but more that he doesn’t want to disrespect all those who threw them (and thus avoid another fight). He collects the coins, then turns towards the rest of the group, "Alright, I believe that is taken care of, shall we?"
OOC:
How much money was thrown?

"Mukitz is right about one thing, those were mighty impressive skills you demonstrated," Corwyn says in a low voice to Quincy, regarding his companion with increased respect. (Not that he had a low regard for Quincy before, far from it, having seen how he held his own in the journey. He has not met many monks and therefore has limited knowledge of their capabilities.) Handing back Quincy his spear and backpack, he says, "Shall we see if we can persuade Hathaqua, or 'Hath' as I think he prefers to be called to join us?" Then he suggests, under his breath to Quincy and Magnus, "Perhaps in a different tavern as well?"

Mukitz takes Quincy's offered hand but Quincy can tell he does not use much of it as Mukitz easily weighs more than twice that of Quincy. "Thanks kid, I have to admit it was an interesting bought." He then says softly, "And I think you have gained a good measure of respect in here." He then accompanies Quincy over where he then gets dressed as well, and places Boo upon his left shoulder. After Corwyn comments about Hath, Mukitz responds from his position behind Quincy, "Why Mamz Inn solid place, much better than Rock Inn, Book Inn. Smell much better dan Nag Inn, and Tipsy Tankard for uppity merchants. So what take place, that need Hath?"

"We're new to Far Reach and someone told us Hath'd make a good guide, if he's interested," responds Corwyn mildly.
Mar 1, 2021 2:07 am
Mukitz looks down at Hath and asks, "Hath thought you work only garrison?"
Mar 1, 2021 5:36 am
"Oh garrison duty, good can use as guard time."
Mar 1, 2021 9:06 am
Hath nods his head slowly "Garrison business is good business. Where is it ya need guidin' ta? I know most parts round 'ere pretty well, most o' the people too. Muk 'ere'll be 'andy to 'ave along too.
Mar 1, 2021 12:28 pm
"And Boo," he points a finger at the Pika on his shoulder, "best ally."
Mar 1, 2021 2:55 pm
"Weimin told us to look into something south of the village. He said there have been reports of animals and equipment going missing, as well as crop damage. We don't know if it's going to be dangerous, but you never know, so we'd be glad to have you along and of course Boo," says Corwyn, looking towards Quincy's opponent and his pet.
Mar 4, 2021 5:08 am
Quincy nods along, affirming what Corwyn is saying, then looks between Hath, Mukitz, and Boo as he asks, "Well, would you guys care to join us on this mission?"
Mar 4, 2021 11:19 am
Mukitz looks a bit confused and then finally says, "I join already."
Mar 4, 2021 11:19 am
Hath looks the group over and nods "Yeah s'pose so. Ya need a local ta help guide ya an' there ain't nuthin more useful for me ta do round 'ere. When do ya wanna leave?"
Mar 5, 2021 1:08 am
"I'm sure you'll both want to get your gear - armour and weapons and such. Would tomorrow morning be good?" He pauses then looking questioningly towards Quincy and Magnus. "We only arrived with the caravan today and maybe a meal and a rest in the village first would be a good idea?"
Mar 5, 2021 1:36 am
"Morning good" Mukitz says as he nods to the affirmative. "Where stay kid?" Mukitz asks as he looks down at Quincy
Mar 5, 2021 4:53 am
"Morrow morning is perfect. I do believe we have free room and boarding at the garrison while on assignment?"
Mar 5, 2021 10:21 pm
"That's my understanding from what Kustaa said," in response to Quincy's comment about lodgings at the garrison. "Shall we meet up here, that is, outside Mamz Inn tomorrow morning - if you want to agree a time?" suggests Corwyn.
Mar 6, 2021 1:38 am
"I stay garrison, stick with kid" he points at Quincy
Mar 6, 2021 3:01 pm
"So you are coming back to the garrison with us?" says Magnus

Mar 9, 2021 1:54 pm
Hath picks up his drink and finishes it. "Yeah I s'pose so. Always like ta know who I'm gonna be travellin' with before I set off. Ya wanna be off now or 'ave a few drinks 'ere first?"
Mar 9, 2021 6:43 pm
And you Mukitz? says Magnus
Mar 9, 2021 11:07 pm
"Much as I'd like a couple of drinks, I'm quite tired and I'd like a clear head in the morning when we set off. We could always have a few drinks when we've completed our 'mission'."
Mar 10, 2021 1:20 am
"I said, I with kid" he points at Quincy odd as it might seem Mukitz seems determined to stick near Quincy.
Mar 10, 2021 3:46 am
Quincy closes his eyes for a moment in order to recenter his annoyed and frustrated mind. He inhales. He isn't sure why this particular yroc is so attached and persistent towards him, but any hope of a quiet, meditative night cataloguing everything he is trying his best to remember to write down in his journal was probably thrown out the window the minute he walked up to Mukitz and asked him a simple, simple question.

Then the thought that perhaps Mukitz' intentions might be sinister, that maybe he wanted to fight Quincy to gauge his skill, learn his strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps there is more to Mukitz than Quincy is realizing. Perhaps-

The thoughts of his old master break through the escalating paranoia, you cannot live your life in fear; live it in faith. Faith in Torm, but more importantly faith in yourself.

*Exhale* He made it all the way here to Far Reach didn't he? What could a single yroc do to him?

"Sure, Mukitz, sounds great. Hath, I think I could use a drink or two before heading to sleep though, care if I join in?
Mar 10, 2021 4:12 am
Mukitz grabs his large tankard of spiced ale and hands it to Quincy, "Here drink, it good."
Mar 10, 2021 4:22 am
A red flag hoists itself quickly in his mind. But Quincy takes the tankard graciously from Mukitz, gives it a quick sniff for anything suspicious, and if he doesn't sense anything, he takes a healthy swig and hands it back, expressing thanks to the yroc.

The burning sensation of the ale is nothing Quincy has ever experienced before and perhaps naming it fire ale would be appropriate but there seems to be nothing in it that at least Mukitz himself is not willing to consume for upon handing it back he takes a solid drink from the tankard as well then sets it down in easy reach of Quincy should he care for more.
Mar 10, 2021 10:00 am
"HaHA! Gud on ya lad! The day is young yet an we're in no rush." Hath gives Quincy a big grin and slaps him on the back jovially. "Yer all welcome ta join us, ya won't get no trouble in 'ere. Ent no-one stupid enuf ta try startin any in Mamz' place, else they'd ave ta answer to Mam 'erself! 'Tis also the best ale ye'll find in town if ya like it with any kinda flavour to it."

Hath leans out and calls over to Mam "Could we 'ave a round of ales please Mam?"

Looking back to the group he adds "Always make sure ya make an effort ta speak respectful like ta Mam, she won't take any less and the lads 'ere won't neither. First-timers often make that mistake an it don't often go well for 'em."

Most of the monks at the House of the Hand chose not to partake in alcoholic beverages, for it inhibits and confuses the inner workings of the body, which monks spend so long trying to learn to control. But every once in a while, it was nice to give up control and let your subconscious take the reigns.

However, Quincy is most definitely still a lightweight. As he swallows the ale, he coughs once or twice, and his eyes begin to water. Nevertheless, he says to Mukitz, That's some good stuff.

But upon the suggestion of regular ale, Quincy gives thanks to Torm himself, for he isn't sure how much more of that fire ale he would be able to drink.
Mar 11, 2021 1:50 am
It wasn't what he was thinking of doing but as Hath has ordered a round of drinks Corwyn thinks it would be churlish to refuse. "Maybe one or two then, before going back to the garrison," taking a sip of the ale when it comes.
OOC:
What does he think of it? Constitution of 17 :)

OOC:
That depends on how he likes the flavor more than the alcohol content which is about 40% to 50% but Mamz Burning Draught (or house ale) is also laced some how with hot pepper juice which gives it its fiery aspect -- and it does get you sweating fast as the alcohol helps to deliver the heat aspect more quickly into the blood system while keep it from burning the mouth or throat on the way down. Of course if it were not for magical healing many folks might have ulcers -- so you decide

Oh and Quincy is going to find that, unless one orders something specific, you are given Mamz Burning Draught so that round that was just ordered same kick and heat as the one Mukitz shared with you. Nicely however a round is one single large tankard that is shared by all. As was the custom in our historic past.
With Hath ordering another tankard, Mumkitz passes his to the closest individual of the group that has not had any as his was still about half full. "Hear drink."

What are you suggesting? That COVID guidelines weren't in place back then? Today's world could never
Quincy, with sweat already running down his forehead, takes a hefty swig of the new tankard, expecting it to be something else. But as it throws oil onto the fire that is becoming his stomach, he does his best to keep it down and swallow the entire mouthful. (Which, to everyone else, looks like a naïve teenager trying a shot of straight vodka for the first time.) But nevertheless, he smiles and tries to play it off as if nothing is wrong and he very much enjoys the taste of hellfire.

Its at least 40% alcohol not like a normal germ is going to survive that and COVID is mostly passed aerially and yeah I am sure this world has its share of diseases and such but magic is not something you easily become immune to ;) unless its a magical disease which do exist as well.

Corwyn takes a gulp and then passes it on to Hath.
Mar 12, 2021 9:52 am
Hath takes he mug and raises it in thanks. "So what brought you boys ta the Far Reach? He takes a swig and offers it for the next person to take a drink.

Magnus takes the mug from Huth and has a deep swig of the drink, it feels like liquid fire in his belly, but as a former mercenary sergeant he has a long experience of trying dubious drinks in sleazy dives.

"Hath, Mukitz, my name is Magnus, I was a soldier, I served in the Flaming Fists and reached the rank of sergeant but then I was touched by the spirit of Torm and now I travel the lands, doing my best to be of help to people and fight those who would oppress others".

Quincy is already feeling the effects of the ale, but takes another swig as it gets passed down around the group. "As am I. The temple where I grew up and studied in was dedicated to Torm." He pauses for a moment, making sure that he has the name right, "And I am Quincy, I am not sure if I properly introduced myself earlier to the both of you."

He carefully avoids the question of why he is here in Far Reach and responds "But pleasure to be in your company." He then takes a rather large gulp from his waterskin, hoping to make up for the fire that is burning within him at the moment.

Results of the evening will be as follows:

Quincy passes out and Mukitz will carry him back to the barracks
Corwyn very drunk but capable of staggering back to the barracks
Magnus will need assistance to walk which can be done either by Mukitz or Hath
Mukitz is going to stay at the barracks
Hath has the choice stay over night at the Inn or stay over night at the barracks both are amicable and similar

Corwyn drops two silver pieces into the barrel. He staggers towards the door, singing (fortunately not too loudly):
"Slowly the alcohol hazes my brain,
But right at this moment I need it,
For when I look back at the things that I've done...'

How did the rest of that go?"
