Keep in mind folks the guidelines makes this suggestion :
Personality
.... Traits --- pick at least 2
.... Ideals -- pick at least 1
.... Bonds -- pick at least 1
.... Flaws --- pick at least 1
These are suggested minimums and while you can have just 1 of each if that is all you want keep in mind that the alternate version of Inspiration that I am using rewards more detail with the Personality aspects. Personally even in games where this version of Inspiration is not being used I go through all the suggested Traits, Ideals, Bonds, and Flaws listed for all backgrounds and take those that I feel match the character I am wanting to play. Granted sometimes the wording has to be changed slightly but the concept generally remains the same. Further you can make up your own as well -- basically the more detail helps you and helps me.

Will the beginning of our story include our characters' meeting or should we establish bonds between our characters beforehand? I could maybe see Ulfgar and Amos having already become companions easily, both on a journey for the answers to their respective mysteries.

I have a generic method to bring the characters together that is semi-organic but previous ties would be even better -- I have only had one group so far that actually did that and it was a much better start but I leave that to players since not all players like to do that -- personally as a player I am always trying to set up some kind of relationship with one or more of my fellow players and in the past I have been father, brother, son, and good friend to another PC.

Well, I for one am up for it if anyone else wants to work out some ties. I don't know if there is a way for me to view anyone's character sheets before we get going and people start posting as their character (Ulfgar had their background summary posted in their character creation thread so I browsed that). You other players feel free to view mine and toss out ideas if you care to.

So some thoughts I had...
Ulfgar, tell me what you think about this. Ulfgar and Amos have already had a few minor adventures together. As both seekers and travelers we took some jobs together to both keep ourselves fed and to look for leads in our own separate personal quests. However, due to Amos condition, he has proved a somewhat unreliable companion. Maybe he had a mental breakdown in the middle of a battle and you saved him. Maybe on a day you two were to leave to do a job he just refused to leave his locked room and left you high and dry. We can start this story with you considering whether to cut ties with him and keep yourself safe or continue to travel with him perhaps out of pity and hoping to keep him from getting himself killed.
Karg and Amos could have as simple a tie as Karg noticing a darkness hidden in Amos while he outwardly seems to fight for good. You join up so as to investigate him further. I don’t know Karg’s story so that’s just playing off him being a paladin.
Let me know if you two care for any of that. Both ties have a lot of focus on Amos’ story but that’s only because I don’t know yours yet. We can modify any of it or just trash it.

I like that idea. Karg would be easily interested in Amos from curiosity and the desire to help him overcome his troubles, but would be unsure of how to do so because Amos has had complex troubles beyond merely not having enough money or being harassed.
The backstory written for Karg is:
From a young age, Karg was fascinated by exploration and devoted to Dukagsh. He advocated for expanding Yroc territory into unclaimed and unexplored regions and avoiding conquests of other nations. The more warlike members accused him of being weak. As a test of his devotion and strength, he set out into the wilderness for a month alone, after a month in the wilderness fending off wild beasts and surviving, he proceeded towards civilization choosing not to return to his homeland until he has done 1,000 good deeds. Eventually he made his way to Waterdeep, by traveling with merchants and adventurers from town to town. There, he joined the Order of the Gauntlet. After spending a few months catching thieves and stopping conflict, the Order requested that Karg travel to Far Reach to help in dealing with problems in that region, they feel his racial traits will help those who are already established a base there.
Perhaps on his way from Waterdeep to Far Reach he met one of the characters?

Yes the character backgrounds can be dropped into the character discussion threads as that is the intent of those threads for players to discuss their characters with me and other players

try rebooting the page -- or go to your character edit it and save it and see if that updates things for you
