General Discussion

Hey guys.

First thing first, it is likely going to be a week or two, if not longer, at least for me to finalise a few things and pop up all the relevant stuff. It is a bit of an info dump at first, but again characters won't necessarily know everything past what they need to survive.

But as a suggestion to start discussing stuff was mention I thought I'd give you guys access as then you can see whats going up as that can maybe help with ideas, and you can also possibly make requests. (Like it sounds Rune may want a uni etc)

This site can give some overview on things, just make sure on mechanics you are looking at V5 as they collated a few things, and balanced it a lot more.

I'm not going to open a char gen thread yet as I likely will be doing that as a sort of 'lead through' thread if that makes sense, as I believe none of you have built vtm v5 before?

Though definitely discuss ideas among each other. Something you can start on is what's called a relationship map. How do you know each other? The map is something that is built up over the game to see who is linked to whom.

Also possibly discussion on how you became a coterie (Basically group that works together), whether you have been for a year or so, or are just formed at the start of the game. Khulod had a suggestion, and I also popped one in the interest thread.

Just to make sure, the setting is modern day, right? What kind of image does Aylesmouth have for regular people? Still trying to figure out my character concept
Jan 28, 2021 4:09 pm
Yeah...

What kind of town is it? How big? Where is it? What makes it special?

I think it's modern, V5 is and we seem to follow the canon plotlines so far.

I'm a bit torn between concepts too, curious to hear what others are thinking of, but I'm thinking either a Nosferatu or Gangrel at this point.

I was originally thinking Malkavian, but since they’re tricky to pull off in the right way I’m considering going Brujah instead

So the city is sort of middling range for a uk city. About 250,00 people. Majority of that is in the inner city, which is full of flats and highrises. Due to being fairly modern, it actually has borrowed the grid system from modern American cities to a degree. (Also this is a lot easier for me to sketch)

The city didn't exist more than 100 years ago. It was funded by a group of old rich Ventrue who wished to carve a part of the world out for themselves to rule, and to keep the old ways strong. It's situated on an artificial island off the east coast, and is still slowly being built up.

The reasoning to the humans for it being built was to generate a lot of jobs and homes for people after the first war, and to try and entice people to stay or come over to the UK instead of America. A sort of 'UK dream' as you would. As such it is very multicultural, and a lot of family run businesses nestled among the big corporate run by Ventrue, but was Conservative (Right) leaning till recently. The outskirts are mostly green, though some parts are slowly being built into, with one part designated a national park.

It still tries to keep a reputation up of being a city everyone can turn over a new leaf, but it has crime, homelessness, problems just like other cities. Problems in the council (those politically in charge of a uk city/area) have started to arise, construction overrun, and budgets overrun, especially in recent years as the person who's brainchild is, the ex-Prince, has disappeared, as have other.

Both the population and the younger vampires are starting to push back against the plans, wanting more control. What was decided 80 years ago may still no longer be a good idea.

Basically a standard uk city

Vampire wise, there's a decent sized population compared to the size of the city. 80-100. There are a lot of older vampires who saw the place as a haven of Camarilla rules, bringing or creating weaker progeny to serve them. With the disappearance of the prince, and others over the last 15-10 years, they are begging to find their grip on the city slipping, especially as the new prince, the wife of the old one, is barely over 100 years old, and her Sensechal (Second-in-command), is under 100.

On Malkavians feel free to suggest ideas to me and I can confirm if I think they would work or not.

Year wise: Think maybe a couple of years back as there may be some time jumps. Still, no pandemic. Give us all a break.

80 years ago was WW2. Maybe not the best moment to develop a city.
Jan 28, 2021 6:20 pm
Well it was established in between the two wars

Then the city is going to have be a just a few years older. WWII had already started in 1940.

Sure, but my guess is that it’s just a slight miscalculation. It says that it was built after WW1, and I believe in the game details it mentioned 1920s as the establishing decade
Jan 28, 2021 9:30 pm
..Yes. 100 years or so , 1920s. Don't ask me why my brain was doing all calculations based off 2000. (I've been doing it for years, and apparently my brain refuses to accept it can't do it anymore and keeps rounding down.)

How it was affected by WW II still working on, but it was likely mostly ignored by the blitz as it was still very small, and held nothing of import.

Edit - Worked out the exact location. It's just off a part called Robin Hood Bay, and a place called Ravenscar. (Yes seriously. British names) This is in the North, above towns like Manchester, but still below the Scottish border.

I also forgot to say - It will have a large fishing industry attached, being an island.

I've updated the numbers, also on looking through things it may be the ratios given to me in the book were not necessarily correct. (It was saying 1 vamp to 1000, reddit suggests that's fairly small, so turns out the population of vamps is likely sizeable compared to other cities.

I play a few game currently. One game system that I know very well (D&D 5e) and a few that is my first time with the system (13age + The Strange/Cypher).
I am struggling with the new systems as our gaming pace is rather slow, so I never really get a good grip on the rules. I fear the same will happen with Vampire 5e here.
It doesn't help that Real Life(TM) has upped my workload.

So what I am saying is, that even if I would like to play with you guys, and learn Vampire 5e, I should properly step back now and make room for a better-suited player
Feb 3, 2021 10:34 pm
Sorry to here that. I understand about too many new systems at the same time. If I do run gain and you feel more up to, I am happy to accept you again.

To everyone else, I will invite DeJoker in as he is next in line and quite eager, unless anyone really wants to stick to 3?

Edit: Going to stick to 3 for now, which was my original plan anyway.

I'm going to be in the hospital for nothing serious for two days.
Feb 17, 2021 2:12 pm
Hope everything is okay and that you'll feel better
