Yep nice base stats but as you level they become less important ;) which is why I do not mind folks starting with more heroic characters because well you are supposed to be the heroes of the story. Still even this method does not mean you will get all great stats but it does generally mean you are less likely to get a bunch of bad ones

Ulfgar the Hill Dwarf is a Druid of the Circle of the Mountian (Circle of Land (Mountain)) who has been living as a hermit communing with the spirits of the mountain. He sees the other members of his circle on the changing of seasons and goes down to the village at the base of mountain to trade stone cravings and medical remedies for supplies. But recently dark dreams and pushes by spirits of air and land have lead Ulfgar to leave the mountain to find what has upset nature's balance in the world.

Edit: But recently Ulfgar has discovered and ancient ritual site high in the mountains and clues there have lead him to the Far Reach and here the sprites whisper of dark things and balance of nature feels upset.

How would you feel about bringing in the Spells Mold Earth, Earth Tremor and Warding Wind from Xanathar's Guide to Everything?
Jan 29, 2021 8:26 pm
I can say I would be comfortable with bringing over a version of them -- which is to say either as is or tweaked to match game balance. Is there a specific reason you are wanting these spells?

Okay MrDeVale this Discovery what are your thoughts on what it might be. I can generally whip something up but I would much rather meld it into something you are invested in so please think about this and let me know your thoughts.

Also you have no equipment and no Personality aspects (Traits at least 2, Ideals, Bonds, Flaws at least 1 each).

I want those spells because earth and wind spells I think fit well with the whole mountain theme in the character while allowing my character options that spellcasting focused druid could use. But if I need to choose other spells, I can figure something out.

I know I need to set down and spend starting cash and type out the rough idea for backstory so I can turn that into personality aspects.

Equipment Bought.

Discovery: Ulfgar has discovered an ancient druid ritual site high in the mountains and has worked hard to uncover and translate all that he can find, but much has been lost to time leaving little that can be truly understood. Luckily among that little are directions and descriptions of another site which hopefully can fill in at least some of the blanks left in the records and rituals left at this site.

Yeah, so we are going need to edit that last little bit in my intro up there.

Backstory: Ulfgar son of Father Kilvar and Mother Vistra is from a clan of warriors that trace their lineage back to the great General Dain famous for leading an army united from all the clans. But Ulfgar always felt he belonged somewhere else than the training field, somewhere beyond the walls of the clan compound. Such tension has been and seeming continues as theme throughout his 108 years. Tension between rooms of rowdy clansmen and quite places in the hills to hear the whispers of sprites. Tension between the wildness of the natural world and the order of civilized life. Tension between the needs of a growing kingdom and the balance of life on the mountain. Tension between the call of sprites of the wild and his ties to family, clan and kingdom.

Ulfgar first saw a sprite in his 27th year while helping his father in escorting a caravan through the mountains. During a morning where he woke up early and saw something out the corner of his eye. Following his feelings out of the camp, he found the wispy orange wind sprite with a gnome druid he would learn was named Orryn. The druid looked at him, smiled and said that he would find Ulfgar later and turned into raven and flew off.

To be continued later.

Alright a couple of questions. How does reinforced leather armor count for druid armor restrictions? This more for the future. I don't really want redo my starting equipment now. Other question, religion seems like a pretty big deal here but druids can be thought of as a sort of priestly class and have some notes of older more shaman-y religion so how does that play? Because I could see Ulfgar thinking of himself in that sort of role. Intermediator between mortals and sprites certainly fits for at least part of what he does as a druid.

Straight Reinforced Leather contains metal which can be replaced with either bone or darkwood so that is made of all natural materials.

Backstory continued:
Orryn would find Ulfgar when he returned home after trip with his father. Orryn would teach him much though there would times where Orryn would gone for sometime. The next major shift was when Ulfgar's family confronted him about where he had been going off to and what he had been doing with his time and while things did get heated and voices were raised, Vistra his mother stepped in and supported her son which lead to letting acknowledging Ulfgar as capable enough to make his own decisions and when Orryn next left, Ulfgar would leave with him to travel the mountains on decent terms with his clan.

Ulfgar would see much while traveling with Orryn. Animals and plants of all kinds, dryads and treants, other druids of many kinds and shapes, elemental sprites, even a few friendly fey creatures. Ulfgar would see wonderful sights of nature in ancient trees, spectacular waterfalls, and terrible storms. Through it all learned the old ways and its magic. Ulfgar took his place as part of the Circle of the Mountain and at the age of 62, Orryn declared that he teach Ulfgar no more. So Ulfgar continued to travel the mountains and hills but now on his own, learning from experience and striking his own deals with sprites elemental and fey for more knowledge. Ulfgar was also glad to help those he found in mountains so long they respected the mountains too. He shared meals with travels both those that had lost their way, and those passing through. He meet other wanderers some of whom touched the primal power too. He went into villages and helped their too with magic, skill and just willing hands and other times brought complaints into the village from for sprites of too many trees brought down or beasts hunted. Other times he warned of coming storms, wild fires and other natural disasters. Ulfgar eventually would connect with some of these villagers and would start to make sure and come back often trading in them and join in village festivals and helping bring in harvests with them. During this time he too would answer the call of his Circle to attend to ceremonies to promote proper balance usually held for changing of seasons.

This is when Ulfgar discovered an old druid circle of stones and worn runes inscribed into the stones. He would work hard to try and get proper translations but more information was needed and so Ulfgar has decided to travel farther then his mountains to another set of stones that is hinted at in the ruins and their runes.

Alright moving into those traits, bonds, ideals, and flaws.

Traits
Thirst for Knowledge: Ulfgar has learned much during his life and has fond a love uncovering knowledge. Knowledge about himself, the world around him, this world's sprites and more recently the world's history.
Humble Worker: All kinds of work is needed to support the lives people live and all of this work needs to be done. So someone needs to do even the most humble of work.

Bonds:
Vistra, his mother and largest connection back to his clan. Her support for his life path continues to mean much Ulfgar even to this day.
Orryn, his mentor, taught him much that he thankful for and represents his connection to his druid circle.
Randal Evenwood, a farmer from one the villages in the mountains, who Ulfgar's medical knowledge once saved and who always welcomed Ulfgar into his home since.

Ideal: Good neutral
Cooperation, Humanoids are social creatures much like the wolf where the strength of the wolf in the strength of the pack. Cooperation and mutual aid are important strategies for survival.

Flaw:
Ulfgar's curiosity and thirst for knowledge can push him too far, risking too much to uncover lost lore.
