Eventually, everyone works the main gate. The only thing to look at is the vast, empty Kamatayan desert. On the bright side, there is a rock in the distance that someone has painted target, if you feel like practicing your long range skills. Also, Tsira has promised to make an example out of anyone she catches drinking alcohol while on duty.

OOC:
I'm assuming there's a parapet along a balcony overlooking the main gate, from which archers could cover. Qiora would like to be there while on-duty.Piled next to the chair is a pyramid of small stones; ammunition for the sling Qiora keeps at her waist. Upon her lap, Qiora's hands are crossed over an ivory olifant banded with brass and carved in low-relief with depictions of minstrels cavorting with monsters.

Rhograx pulls out his crossbow and aims at the target.

Attack - (1d20)

Rhograx's arrow cleanly hits the rock, but was a little off from the bulls-eye. The arrow bounces off the hard target, flips, and lands in the sand. A skuttlebug quickly emerges from the sand, grabs the arrow, and retreats back underground.

How many arrows has that thing collected so far?

Rhograx sets one arrow resting against the wall and nocks another one. He aims at the rock once again, but this time, as soon as the arrow leaves, he grabs the other arrow and tries to shoot the bug when it comes out.

(9) = 9

Jorkus sneaks in behind the other two and readies his bow after seeing the first shot. If the bug comes out, he is going to try and shoot it also... from between Rhograx's legs

Shooting the bug - (1d20+3)

Jun 6, 2016 8:25 am
Rhograx's first arrow hits the outside of the rock and bounces onto the sand. Again, the skuttlebug quickly pops out of the ground to snatch the arrow. The second arrow catches the bug off guard, but only manages to graze it's head.
Unsure of where the attack came from, the skuttlebug skuttles around nervously.
Jorkus's shot flies straight at the unsuspecting creature's brain, but is caught by a claw right before it hits! The skuttlebug caught the arrow in midair! It must have been merely feigning confusion, the clever thing.
The bug frantically waves both arrows in the air, seemingly insulting its assailants, and returns underground.

"I'd like to know, maybe we should go down and open his lair?" Rhograx says shrugging.
Jun 6, 2016 11:27 pm
"You wretched beast, your nuts hit my bow just as I was releasing the arrow or we'd be eating crab!" Jorkus barks before stomping off.

"So who's going to take the next shot?" chirps Qiora. Taking her small drum, she beats out a lolling melancholy tune.
My archer's got arrow
He's the hunter of the sparrow
Knows his eyelids gotta narrow
to send that bug into its barrow
If the heavens ever did speak
He'd be the one that I'd plea
for a bullseye that'd streak
into an arrow-stealing crab freak.
He's a hunter, and he likes it.
Command him to aim well.
Amen

Qiora easily spots a small sprite clinging on the side of the parapet for dear life. Looks like it was spooked by the sudden rain of arrows. He was trying to be stealthy, but notices Qiora staring directly at him. He manages to sputter out a greeting.
"I've g-got a message for w-whomever runs this castle!"
After that statement, Rhorgrax also notices the sprite.

"I am not the person running this castle, but I am a guardian and can make you comfortable or relay your message little one." Rhograx says with a smile.
Jun 11, 2016 1:27 pm
"Yes! I mean, please do. Our forest is in danger, and I was sent to this keep out of desperation. I'm glad you guys don't want to kill me on sight, I guess the elders were wrong."
The tiny sprite wears woven clothing and shards of rock for armor. He wears a pair of goggles on his head, and has a shovel strapped to his waist as if it were a sword.

Rhograx reaches out his large dragon hand for the sprite, "Come in and take a rest. Can I get you some food or drink while you explain your plight?"
Jun 11, 2016 1:34 pm
The sprite nods in agreement, but glances at Qiora (who is staring at him intently).

The sprite's intentions are genuine, his people really do need the help of outsiders. You notice that he does not seem like the fighting type, more like a normal laborer. To know the intentions of whoever the 'elders' are you'd have to meet them firsthand.
Sprites and pixies usually live in the same, tiny settlements. Though they are small, they can still pack a punch. They utilize poisons and have an innate spellcasting ability. Back on the main continent they are generally peaceful, but will attack if their habitat is threatened. You are not sure about how the Kamatayan would affect their society.

Satisfied with her initial assessment, Qiora brings her olifant to her lips and blows a clear tone that rises and falls. The horn signals the keep that there is a visitor, and that the gates should be opened.
Leaving the sprite in the care of Rhograx, Qiora settles back into her chair to resume her watch.

A beetle about the size of shield accompanies Qiora at the gate. Apparently it is Nalu's mount, and it has a little saddle and a pack attached to it. It's also dung beetle, how charming.
Jun 24, 2016 8:50 pm
Studying the mount briefly to pick out the appropriate details, Qiora busies herself with penning a few notes on recent developments. Her original occupation within the Omon household hasn't been in demand since the move to the desert, so documenting the comings and goings of the keep engages her creative mind. Of course, Qiora still jots a few bars within the margins; the tales of her matron should prove to be a good song and any future music lessons could certainly use them as reference.
She pauses as she considers the new personnel. Two tieflings, one of whom declaring as a bard. Qiora is sure they will be introduced properly later on.

Her shift over, Qiora pockets the stones for her sling and collects her empty plate. Securing her wide-brimmed hat, she descends from the parapet and back to the Main Hall.
