Kicking off The One Ring

All,

I've been re-reading the rules of The One Ring lately, once Phantom volunteered to be a victim to try a Mouse Guard oneshot. As a result, I've opened up a game to run through the introductory adventure. If we all have a good time and want to keep going, we will. If not, we'll either put a bow on it and be done, or swap in new players who'd like to replace those who would prefer to pass on further adventure.

Familiarity with One Ring is a bonus, and not required. I'm not that familiar with it (I've never run it or played it) so I'll be learning as we go as well (as I did with various FFG titles here). Patience, fun and a desire to play in One Ring's Middle Earth are all that's necessary. If you don't have material, I will try and be a patient and capable tutor (this will interrupt gameplay flow a little, but I think that's a worthwhile tradeoff as we learn the system).

The game link is here.

It's unclear how many people are intended to be part of the Fellowship so I've left it open to as many as six players if people are interested -- though I'll go with as few as three if we don't get much interest. :)

Ooh - that sounds like fun! I've got too much going on right in RL now to add another game, but if you're still looking for players in a month or two (or if anyone drops out down the road), I'd be interested in joining.

Sounds good! I'll know more in a day or two if it's piquing any interest.

Weekends are definitely slower, so I'd give it time through the week.

Yup -- I figured. :)

I've got two spots filled -- would love a third (though I'll happily take more). Familiarity with The One Ring is totally optional. From my reading of the system, it seems pretty narrative in structure and has a nice framework to make it an interesting romp in PbP.

Act now before some grimy hobbitses steals your precious...

I mean.. feel free to join in!

I was very familiar with the old Middle Earth RPG but not The One Ring. Would love to give it a go but no knowledge or access to the system.

join in and help me learn how to GM it. I've got the source material and will be learning. I had great fun doing that with FFG Star Wars in my Force and Destiny campaign and a couple of the folks weren't even (one still isn't!) Star Wars people. So you'd be one up on them for that by being familiar with Middle Earth.

I'll get character generation started and will link to materials and provide descriptions / guidance and help as necessary.

I've bowed out. Already have a lot on and the system looks like it might need more of my time than I'm prepared to devote. Hope you guys have fun!

Understood. Note that I think character creation is filled with a bunch of /choices/ but it seems like the most complicated part of things. I'm happy enough to work from a bio to put together a character if someone would rather go that route versus learning and walking through character generation.

It seems that a couple of my other games are getting wrapped up/closed, so I'd like to toss my hat in the ring for this game. I read through the Corebook about a year ago and have been listening to a new podcast on The One Ring, so I feel fairly familiar with the system. Anything in particular I need to keep in mind when rolling up a character?

nope! we're all just getting started, and another person (and some familiarity with the rules) will be most helpful!

I am back in the land of Gamers Plane! njohn, you specificially, I'm sorry about our 13th Age flop. Life got crazy at the time and now I don't even know where I was going with it. But, on this subject, I actually just bought this rulebook recently and want to play it too. Huge Tolkien fan.

No worries; RL happens and games come and go. It was fun while it lasted! :D

I'm happy to have you join in SClark -- we have one more slot open, and a couple folks who are a little quiet with character creation -- so as soon as I get 3-4 people put together we'll start it rolling and as other folks get their characters together we'll figure out how to add them in.

I'll take a swing at character creation today. I have the book so it'll definitely get done. njohn, yuou da man for understanding! I had a blast with the gnome home gang as well, shame it was sustainable.

Characters are created! And we're off!
