One More Job - Character Creation

Here we can hash out tone and theme, party dynamics, character creation, and setting-specific homebrew.

What would the supernatural be in this situation? (Come to think of it, maybe exotic and mundane would be a better scale to use, more applicable to more situations.)

Or perhaps "head" instead of tech and "heart" instead of super/magic

In this case let's apply it to a "knack" for your career path. Some are good shots with a gun because they study them front to back and understand physics. Some can just "feel" it.

Guns are fine motor of course, but that idea.

Can we get some more setting bits? I haven't thought of a super great character idea yet.

Generic action heist movie. You have access to cooler gadgets than may exist now, but it's largely familiar.

I figure New York, LA, or Philly for a root city. Preference?

I don't have a preference for city.

I submitted a character sheet. Basically, for this character, I tried to use all the traits that I thought weren't as widely usable as the others (Supernatural, Follower, Introverted, and Pessimist) to see if it would still work.

Silent and tough, Bruce is a hardened veteran driver. Though notably pessimistic, he's managed to pull off incredible stunts in a variety of vehicles and sticky situations throughout the years. Unknown to anyone else, he used to be a normal person, a long time ago. His wife was held hostage by [insert big crime people], and he was forced to drive for them. It was supposed to be a one and done job, but his newfound talent for driving ended up working against him, as [insert big crime people] sought to exploit his skills by keeping his wife hostage. The government agents have promised him that they'll extract his wife safely if he lends them his skills. It's been a long time, and Bruce is tired of waiting for a promise that'll never be fulfilled.

I had a couple of clarifying questions. Can multiple habits stack advantage on the same roll?

Also, a thing that I noticed is that d4s have a slightly better chance of success than bigger dice at the same distance from the center. This probably isn't that big of a thing, since the rules for resizing dice and the points you get in char gen should push the target number further from the center as the dice get bigger in most cases, and since the chance of success isn't that much bigger with a d4. Just something that I didn't expect

I’ll get something in today.

LA is always pretty good since it’s in most movies, people can at least visualize it.

I was thinking of a tech guy/hacker. Nerdy but extroverted. Basically the guy from Die Hard, lol

The d4's don't have extra bonuses like shattered and perfection, so they're safer, but that might not be a good thing. Also less damage related to those dice.

Let's talk tone. How heavy do y'all want this? Is this a Fast and Furious world where the good guys win and the bad guys can only aim well when the plot needs it? Or is this a gritty setting where promises are not kept, and folks on both sides shoot first, and don't ask questions?

Any city large enough to organize its crime seems sufficient when I think "Hollywood action movie", but considering the primary emphasis on the heist I think the city itself plays second fiddle to the target. Unless the city itself is intended to be an integral part of the con, we may as well be in the city of Townsville.

My character concept so far is looking to be a face/fixer, streetwise and extroverted with some leadership potential and plenty of pessimism. Considering both my character and saevikas's are leaning pessimistic, I reckon we can get away with at least some grit, and seeing as this is a beta run, we could try limit testing the gritty factor, but I'd want to make sure the players are all comfortable with that before committing to something grimdark.

I'm fine with grit, and I think limit testing is a good idea.

Gritty is good with me.

Posted! Please introduce yourself. You each get one near-future tech item from the agency. A gun, a set of tools, etc.

Sorry, I thought I submitted the character sheet for this one. Had a rough week last week and must have confused myself. The character has been submitted for your approval.

No worries. You're good to go

So uh, Linus is Irish mafia.

Bruce's wife is held by a large crime syndicate.

A rival gang, or the same?

Do you want us to cross "gadgets" with you before posting it?

Probably not a bad idea. Like, that skeleton key will probably lose versatility as the game matures, just because security gets better.

How futures-y high tech are we going here?

And are they just favor or a mechanical thing?
