Conventions we like to follow:
Present Tense
It's more active and dynamic! It feels like the story is currently happening, rather than something that happened already.
Bold for spoken dialogue
"Aaaarrrggghhh!!!" yells the goblin, "Thou hast smitten me bum cheek!"
Purple for flashbacks or to address something that happened in the past
Remember, always protect the face...
Green for your own thoughts
I wonder what this spell scroll does...
Bold Green for telepathy
This is your conscience. We haven't spoken for a while...
Red for combat stats
HP: 3/8
AC: 16
OOC for out-of-character questions or informationBlue for information about abilities or features you've used, or to sum up the mechanical details of a combat round

I don't know how to make it be my character saying things, but at least I get to type 'bald' in the search bar and have it autocomplete to this campaign.

The trick is to name the character in the character sheet, not just have a name for the character sheet.
