Gearing Up: OOC

May 15, 2021 8:34 am
Okay, so the gearing up phase is probably more in-depth than it absolutely has to be, and I"m going to try to simplify it as much as possible. Here's the basics.

Each agent has a base number of Budget Points (to buy gear) and Gadget Points (to buy gadgets - think of them as the items Bond would get from Q).

Code Black missions give a base of 35bp and 6gp.
-- To determine your full Budget Points, roll 2d4, multiply the result by your CHA mod, and then add the base plus your class bonus.
-- To determine your Gadget Points, it's just your class bonus plus the base.

I've got this outlined below, but feel free to check my math. These do NOT include any dept bonuses.

Angelique:
-- BP: (2d4x2)+35+4
-- GP: 7

Lorraine:
-- BP: (2d4x2)+35+3
-- GP: 6

Vincent:
-- BP: (2d4x0)+35+1 = 36
-- GP: 7

Gene:
-- BP: (2d4x3)+35+3
-- GP: 6

Deacon:
-- BP: 35+2-(2d4x1)
-- GP: 6

Charles:
-- BP: 35+2-(2d4x1)
-- GP: 7

The SRO gives you an extra gadget point, that's factored in. However, the seaplane you need is coming out of your budget as well, and that's factored in too (Angelique's vehicle-specific GP are being spent on this, this time around. Control insists, I'm afraid.). Also, the SRO is not rich, so you've got limits. You can spend no more than 15bp on any one item, 30 on any one weapon, and can spend no more than 6gp on any single gadget or 15 on any one vehicle.

After we've got our rolls, we'll dive into the gear selection. As before, you can do it yourself or tell me what you want and I'll do it, I'm sharing with you the core book if you didn't have it before in order to let you see all your gear options. If you're not sure what you want, you can also just pick one of the bundles detailed in the gear section.

Gene:
-- BP: (2d4x3)+35+3
-- GP: 6

Department 1 agents also receive a bonus of +2 budget points to each mission budget. They receive a bonus of +1 gadget point (beyond their standard allotment) at the start of each mission.

7x3=21+35=56+2=58BP and currently 63BP
6+1=7GP and currently 0GP.

Strangely I don't see any starting money on Gene? Did we get some money form the last mission?

The new 58BP of gear is temp for the next mission right as is the 7GP unless the item says you get to keep it?

Can you use money to buy stuff and keep the stuff or would that be temp for the mission?

Rolls

2d4

(31) = 4

May 16, 2021 7:19 pm
BP = 10+35+4 = 49 - 25 = 24 remaining
GP = 7 (towards seaplane)

Angelique chooses bundle B.

Rolls

BP - (2d4)

(41) = 5

May 19, 2021 12:53 am
BP = 12+35+3: 50 - 25 = 25
GP: 6-3

Lorraine will take Bundle B. As such, she has 25 BP remaining.

For gadgets, Lorraine will take a pair of endless prism earrings (1) and a pair of micor-grenade earrings (2).

For gadgets, Ferret spent all 7 GP

Sonic sensor: This headset uses sonar to allow the agent to sense his surroundings in dimly lit or unlit areas.
Gadget Point Cost: 2 each Weight: —
Spot DC: 25
Mechanics: The agent ignores concealment bonuses from darkness while wearing the device

Hypnosis lenses: These lenses are designed to hypnotize anyone who looks at them directly by subtly repatterning the agent’s irises.
Gadget Point Cost: 2 Weight: —
Spot DC: 20 (super-science)
Mechanics: If the agent is able to look directly into his target’s eyes, these lenses grant him a +2 bonus to all Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate skill checks.

Explosive pen: Identical to an ordinary pen in appearance, this pen can be used like a flash grenade.
Gadget Point Cost: 1 each Weight: —
Spot DC: 25
Mechanics: Acts like a flash grenade (see page 120).

Razor’s edge: This card is well-balanced for throwing and its edge is lined with a micro-thin razor filament, making it a lethal thrown weapon.
Gadget Point Cost: 1 per 6 Weight: 1 lb. per 10
Spot DC: 20
Mechanics: Treat these cards as shuriken when thrown.

Dartgun: Quiet and potentially lethal, this model is favored by subtle agents.
Gadget Point Cost: 1 per 2 Weight: —
Spot DC: 20
Mechanics: Acts as a one-use blowgun. The dart is pre-treated with either knockout drops or lethal poison I (see page 238), at the agent’s option.

Sorry guys, had a bit of an emergency at work, office went completely down due to some stupidity at our ISP. I've been spending most of the week out there trying to get things back up and running.

Re: Money

It's not really a thing. You're assumed to have enough to love on unless you have the debt background, in which case you'll be interested in the next bit:

You do have field expenses. These are expected to be used or returns, but if you're in debt, and you don't wanna do that... or if you don't have debt and are just greedy... feel free to embezzle. You might get found out, you might get rich.

Field expenses are 2d4+class budget bonus x $100. (page 105 of the book)

You can also trade XP for cash if you really need it. Use that sparingly.
May 20, 2021 3:01 pm
Also, since it was asked, XP follows the d&d 3.5 path, with the exception that you can level up only between missions.

Everything looks good so far. We've got a couple people still looking at gadgets I think, but just in case, can we have a ready check?
May 20, 2021 3:08 pm
I'm good, I'll have Deacon go without gadgets this time.
May 20, 2021 3:17 pm
You can keep those points in reserve until you get to a situation you might need a gadget for and just grab it then. I'm okay with that occasionally.
May 20, 2021 5:49 pm
Ready, willing, and able.
May 20, 2021 9:29 pm
Save my gadget points as something I want takes surgery to install and I guess we don't have time for that.

58bp:
Switchblade 5bp
Taser 12bp
Flash goggles 5bp
2 Flash Grenades 24bp
2 Smoke Grenades 12bp
